  1. Much last last year when Landry went down and Howell came in made a name for himself, now he's a starter. I see the same situation traspiring with one of our linebackers.... Probably Werner. Looking back at last years draft I have to think that Grigson drafted Werner to take over for Walden in year 3 of his deal (next year). I'm no hater of Walden either. I think he has done a fine job. But, at the same time, we need to get younger on defense. And Waldens money could be put to The Andrew Luck Fund.

This actually gives Werner ample time to shine/prove himself. This could be a blessing in disguise.

Here's hoping Werner comes out of his shell.

I agree 100%, This will give someone else a chance to shine and whoever it is, Werner, Adongo, Newsome or Walden, they will get some valuable experience and will make our team better in the long run. It will be very tough without Mathis, but someone will just have to step up and hopefully a star will be born. "GO COLTS"
  2. I think Dewey McDonald is going to really surprise people, he is an exceptional athlete for 220 lbs. He is as good or better an athlete as any safety available, in the draft or NFL free agency, he is a very smart (heads up) player, and high character guy too. I know he is from a small school and the level of competition was at a lower level, but I can not understand how he went undrafted. I have researched everything I can find on this guy and I can't find anything but good. He reminds me of a young Ed Reed, except a little bigger, same type of leadership qualities and QB on the field. Before anybody flips out I'm not saying he's going to be as good as Ed Reed, I'm just saying with his athletic ability, his leadership, physicality and nose for the ball, he reminds me of a young Ed Reed. I think Grigson has found a real gem, and with the Colts need at the position, he will get his shot. I have a real good feeling about this guy. "GO COLTS"

  3. I believe Werner will be a much improved player this season, as he gets more comfortable and has a better understanding of the playbook, he want have to think as much, this alone should make him a step quicker as he will be able to just play ball and not have to think so much about what he's doing. This season Werner will show why Grigson made him a 1st round choice.I believe he can be a very good all around linebacker, I expect a big season from Werner.

I think Adongo has unique physical ability,a rare combination of power and speed, if he could develop some pass rushing moves and the understanding of how to be a pass rusher in the NFL, with his physical skills he could be a real weapon as a pass rush specialist. I know with his limited experience in football, this is a long shot, but there is no denying that he has the potential to be something really special. He is very eager to learn and very coachable, its just a matter of developing pass rushing moves. here's to hoping the staff can coach him up to speed, and turn him loose "GO COLTS"

  4. Grigson has stated how much he does not like starting rookie O-lineman, maybe with Thornton already having to start (last season) there was no way he was going to throw Holmes into the fire and have two rookies starting on the O-line. This could explain why Holmes was never given a chance to start at center, and as bad as they were, the powers to be could have been more comfortable with Satele or Mcglynn at center, because of their veteran presence, instead of starting two rookie., Whether this is the case for their praise of Holmes or not, looks like we will see this season.  "GO COLTS"

  5. Just a shout out to all the pathetic little attention whores, who get on here just to make childlike comments about other post. Get a life, this board is to talk about Colts football, nobody is making you read the post, you actually have the option to move on to the next post if you don't want to talk about Colts football. It's really sad that you waste your Junoir high years, just to make comments about another's post, not contributing anything to the conversation. Really sad and what a waste of your and our time. Attention starved, no doubt, but really really sad. Hope your acne clears up and one day you grow up and get to have sex, but for now if you don't like a subject or a particular post, just remember, you don't have to post anything, you can just move along (hopefully like your puberty) be patient, the pubes will come and maybe one day sex, and a whole day without being the victim of the school yard bully.

  6. I love everything Grigson has done in free agency so far this offseason. He has resigned the players that needed to be resigned. Jones is the player I wanted the most for our D-line, as he can play DT and DE and brings a real toughness to the defense, as well as Jackson, tough veteran leadership, great moves. The signing of Nicks, and the price we got him for, is on the verge of genius. We still need a free safety and I think he has a plan, whether in the draft or a veteran starter (maybe both). My biggest concern, and the teams number one priority, for the last two seasons, is the O-line. We have so much talent at the skill positions, solid running back rotation, a great mixture of youth and veteran talent at wide receiver, two of the best young TE's in the game and the very best young QB in the NFL, the sky is the limit with this group

We have got to upgrade the O-line, all this talent will go to waste if we have a below average O-line. The last two seasons we have had one of the worst O-lines in the NFL. We don't even have to have a great O-line, with all the talent we have, we just need average to good O-line. With a good 0-line this team would be unstoppable, but with a poor O-line this team will continue to be very inconsistent and continue to put our franchise QB at risk. Luck has taken a pounding in his first two seasons and it's been a true testament to his toughness, but as tough as he is, he can't continue to take the beating he's been taking. I hope Griggs has a plan in place, because I know that Griggs, has to knows how important it is for this team to field a good O-line. Getting Alex Mack would be unbelievable, and the best free agent signing of the season, for any team. I believe Griggs will do anything, to try and get Mack signed. The question is how long is he willing to wait, before he goes to plan B, because either way, we've got to have an upgrade at the center position, as well as another guard for depth, if not another starter.

I guess I just expected the O-line to be the first thing addressed in free agency, since it was our top priority, and I know Griggs is not through yet, but with Evan Dietrich-Smith being signed, I'm starting to get a little worried, The remaining centers are all well below Mack and Dietrich-smith, even Brian De La Puente is not any better than some of the other remaining centers and well below Mack and Dietrich-Smith. Mack would make this O-line very good, his pre play calls and adjustments are what sets him apart and he has plenty of physical tools to go with that talent. I guess we just have to trust that Griggs knows what he's doing and has a plan, because upgrading this O-line is still priority one, and with or without Mack, moves have to be made. Here's to hoping the Colts can field a good O-line this season. ""GO COLTS""

  7. I agree, until we fix the interior of our offensive line, we will not be top 5 anything on offense, except QB hurries, knockdowns and rushes of zero yards. Fixing the O-line has been priority one for two seasons now. Grigson has to know this, but so far this offseason he hasn't done anything to address it (Costa has to be for back-up). There are always injuries to contend with,(like Thomas last season). So good depth is important. No team can have a top 5 offense without a good O-line. We can not afford another off season without addressing the O-line problems. I sure hope Grigson has a plan in place and feel like he does, maybe he has his sights on someone in the draft but as of right now it doesn't look very good, we need another veteran center and guard. In Grigson we trust, if he doesn't get it addressed this season, there will be a huge backlash from Colts fans. It would be a huge waste of skill position talent,to field a below average O-line this season.

  8. jones was released by the Chiefs a couple of weeks ago. I would love to see the Colts sign Jones, really liked his potential when he was wit the Colts before. His game against the 49ers last season (as a blocker from TE and FB) was one of the best games as a blocker that I have seen in a long time. He's pretty good as a receiver too, and I would take him over Sanders and Doyle. I know it's not a position of need, but he is one of the players that I hated got away from the Colts, when he was placed on the practice squad. He was developing really well in his time as a Colt and looked to have a bright future. Another great find by Grigson and I would like to get him back. Good depth, with a chance of developing into a good player down the road.

  9. I live in North Carolina and have been a Colts fan since 1966, I was 6 years old and my father kept telling me about Johnny Unitas and that he was the best QB in the game, this started my fascination with the QB position and most of all, my fascination with Johnny Unitas and the Colts. I have been hooked on the Colts ever since.

  10. There is nothing wrong with Fleener but we missed Allen's toughness.

Both have something to offer next season.

I think Fleener can develop into a top-notch hybrid allowing us to shift formations without substituting.  Allen should be our traditional TE.

You said the key word, Allen brings toughness, something we really missed, I like what Fleener brings to the passing game, but he is a little soft and goes down with the first contact made, Allen is very hard to bring down.
  11. Please build the lines, if you build a good O-line and D-line, everything else will fall into place. Football is and always will be, won in the trenches. Good lines can make up for a lot of weakness at other positions, I would just for once, like to see the Colts have a good defense, O-line and D-line.

  12. Griff has been great, what I really like is that he always knows where the first down marker is and fights with everything he has to get that first down, never satisfied with just making the catch and getting out of bounds. He is making up for a little of what we are missing with Reggie being out, and that is, Luck knows that Griff is going to be where he is supposed to be on each and every route because of his great running, this is a luxury we have been missing since Reggies injury. Having a reliable receiver with good hands that is where he should be, while Luck goes threw his progressions, is a huge security blanket for Luck. This was the main thing that Reggie provided for Luck and having a guy who can replace some of that, can not be understated. Whalen will be very important to the offense moving forward this season. This is the type of player every offense needs to keep the chains moving, and Whalen is doing a great job of filling this role.

  13. Rookies and 1st year players were coming up big in Texans game.

Hugh Thornton had his best game as a pro Sunday. Sitting out and watching really paid off for Thornton. He was dominant yesterday in the run and pass game, against some big time players (Watts and Smith) the best I've seen him play, he was a mauler pulling, and stoning his man in pass protection, I hope this level of play continues

Griff Whalen was balling as a receiver and returner, if we can get this kind of production out of whalen, with the emergence of Rogers and Brazill WR will no longer be a question mark, and could be a position of strength. It's amazing what a difference a couple of weeks can make. We just needed a couple of weeks for Luck to get some timing down with the new weapons, and over the shock of losing Wayne. Losing Wayne (the security blanket) has forced Luck to spread it around a little more and now it's starting to pay off. He just had to get through the rough part of getting acclimated to the new WR's. Big game for Whalen.

Josh Mcnary looks like he could become a real find. He has had a huge impact in the pass defense the last couple of weeks. He has become our other ILB in obvious passing situations. Very good blitzer, fast and powerful and seems to have a real good feel for how to time the blitz. His blitzing up the middle has already forced interceptions and numerous bad throws by opposing QB's. He also has great closing speed on the check down passes and really lays the wood, whenever blitzing or closing on check downs. I believe Mcnary is going to be a big time player for years to come. We are watching a star in the making. What a find by Grigson

Bjorn Werner He just gets better every week. He looks much more comfortable now and is thinking less and just playing football now. Sunday was his best game as a pro also. I think we are starting to see what Grigson saw when he drafted him. He has a really good first step and if he will just keep that motor running through out the play he could be special. He is leaps and bounds above where he was the 1st half of the season (to bad he was injured) as he is really starting to make plays in both the pass and run defense, good game sunday

Montori Hughes just like Werner, the more he plays the better he gets, he is starting to show up in games now without me having to look for him. He is playing at NT and DE both and getting some quality playing time at both. Incredible athlete for a man his size and at times shows flashes of what he could be. He too had his best game as a pro Sunday

Josh Chapman is getting more and more playing time, even though he doesn't offer much as far as pass rush, he is stout against the run and does just what he is asked to do and a couple of times Sunday I seen him blow up a couple of plays with penetration forcing the ball carrier to go in a different direction, if you watch him he constantly does this a couple of times a game, but it seems to go unnoticed. He had a good game Sunday.

Nixon didn't do anything great Sunday, but being able to come in and start in a pinch like he did is a huge plus, and he did as good a job, or better than Mcglynn has done at guard. Making himself valuable in the future if nothing else, he had a few rough spots, but overall considering the situation not to bad.

Darick Rogers even though he didn't have the big stats that he had last week all the attention he warranted from the Texans defense, opened up the field for the other guys, he still had a couple of good catches and is a big threat with the ball in his hands as he is always looking for yards after the catch. The respect the Texans were showing him after just two weeks in incredible.

Overall a very good game for the rookies and 1st year players and it can only get better going forward. If this trend continues we could be that team, that gets hot at just the right time, a lot of things will have to fall in place, but I've seen stranger thing happen, and if nothing else we are headed in the right direction.

  14. Every time Satele is out, this O-line looks better, at some point Pagano is going to have to face it. His loyalty has hurt this team enough. Now is the time to get on a roll and play your best ball. The Colts have a real chance to turn this thing around, and get hot at the right time, putting Satele back in the line-up will crush this chance, "Please leave Mcglynn at center"

  15. 2 tackles per game....not a great sample size, but promising nonetheless......

He has been a factor in the pass defense,in the last couple of weeks he has forced some bad throws by the opposing QB's, hasn't got any sacks yet, but has gotten good pressure up the middle, keeping the QB's from stepping up in the pocket and really lays the wood when he gets there. Seems to have a real good feel for how to time the blitz. The sacks will come, in the mean time he is altering plays and becoming a real factor. Yesterday he was on the field on most all of the 3rd and passing downs, and had a big impact. Let's hope he gets more snaps, I really like what I'm seeing of Mcnary and I think we've found our other ILB. I've always liked Conner too and just can't figure out what the coaching staff has against him.
  16. I have liked what I have seen of Mcnary and would like to see him get more snaps. He is physical, and a good blitzer, he has been a half step away from getting a sack, a hand full of times the last two weeks. He looks very quick on the blitz with great closing speed in pass coverage too. hope he has earned more playing time, could be our answer at the other ILB spot moving forward.

  17. A good coach takes the talent he has and puts them in the best position to have success. Running a power running attack when you have a weak O-line is just stupid, as a coach you can't just say this is what we are going to be, you have to look at what you have and then decide what you're going to do. The same thing with the defense. To run man to man coverage all the time, no matter how much talent you have in the secondary, you have to have a good pass rush, if you don't have a good pass rush (you can't run man-to-man coverage all the time. This coaching staff does not put the players in the best position for success. Pagano does not hold players accountable when they do screw up. I could not believe he didn't pull Shepard out of the game and chew his butt out, after the taunting call. When a player makes a selfish, stupid mental error like that, you pull him and make sure he understands, boneheaded plays like that will not be tolerated. Pagano did nothing. I'm not calling for Pagano to be fired, nor Manusky or Hamilton. I'm just pointing out that a lot of the Colts problems are because of the coach's, whether it's poor clock management and use of timeouts, to lack of discipline and player accountability, to taking the talent you have and playing to their strengths and playing the style that is best suited to their abilities. Bottom line this coaching staff does not put this team in the best position to win. You can not ask a team to do things they are not capable of doing, you put them in a position to do things they are capable of doing. Thanks for letting me vent.

  18. Another big game by Walden last night, he has played very well while Werner has been out. He is very active and seems to be all over the field. Really plays hard and gives his all. We really need Werner to continue to develop and become our second pass rush threat, in the mean time Walden has been lights out, starting to really feel good about Walden and Werner handling the strong side.

  19. I agree, I think this was our best option, Luck is familiar with Whalen and even though he's not the fastest, he will be where Luck expects him to be. I can't stress this enough. This will be huge in keeping the chains moving. I think he will be on the field, on third down a lot more than people on this board seem to think. He has great hands and is tough and reliable. We don't need him to put up huge numbers, The chemistry that Luck and Whalen already have can be a big plus.

  20. First, I am not putting down Luck, He is my favorite player. There is no other QB I would rather have. I am just pointing out something I find very interesting from the Sunday night game against the Broncos, especially since we won. Luck was 5 of 15 for 29 yards in the second half. That is an amazing stat considering we won the game. I just didn't realize that until I went back and watched the game again. I still can't believe we won with those second half stats from our QB. If someone has already pointed this out, my apology, I just find this to be amazing

  21. I don't understand why we cut Jones, I have really been impressed by his blocking from both the FB and TE position. He is very athletic for a man his size, runs well after the catch. He had one of the best games, blocking wise, as I've ever seen by a Colts TE against the 49ers. I thought he had played very well. I just don't understand why we cut him.
