Good for Fitzy. Guy has to be one of the most under-appreciated players in the history of the league. Has an Ivy League education, and could probably take a desk job anywhere he wants in a front office (and likely will at some point IMHO), yet continues to grind it out on the field and play above expectations everywhere he goes, and yet continues to get moved. Plus he has one of the best beards in the history of the NFL. Good for him.

Sort of amusing how quickly this story dropped from the big spotlight. I figured as much. This guy is a snake IMHO.

I don't know how good he would be but I would listen just to hear him occasionally punk Eli or something. It would be entertaining.

I'm TOTALLY fine with what Ballard is doing. Build your locker room FIRST, then bring in players on good and short-term deals that FIT within that climate. It's been a long-held belief that a tight locker room can achieve much more than one that has more talent but doesn't play together and has division (see Steelers). That's what he's trying to accomplish WHILE trying to bring in and develop talent and make them Colts. I also think teams get lured into thinking "This player could put us over the top!" mode when FA opens and that's why you see so many ludicrous dollars being thrown around. But he's right, you're never just one player away. I like that he's being calculated on his signings even though he has the most money to spend. That is being responsible and believing in your plan. And whether you agree with it or not, you certainly have to respect that mode when so many other GM's would be throwing around ludicrous dollars and setting their teams up for failure in that same scenario. In Ballard I trust.

Not bad.

Supposedly his health situation is not much of a factor according to the docs. so the same situation would apply to him: if he's there and he's the BPA, then so be it.
-
The Giants just drafted Barkley and he's the offensive ROY. Why would they even want to part ways with him? Shepherd on the other hand would be an obtainable target.

Don't know many of those names but a guy named Sandcastle HAS to be good, right?

Best player available that addresses a need IMHO. If we get there and Little is it, then so be it. No doubt he would help and fill a need.
That's about all I got because I am not familiar with him.

I don't think so but Ballard knows him so if he signs him I will defer to his knowledge. I would guess IF they did sign him it would be a fairly short deal due to his age.

Who is the next best space eater in this draft? Is he comparable to the level of Lawrence? I’d assume he is labeled as the DT in our scheme and then you have to ask, if Wilkins is there, he would be the UT we need but who is left as his equal for an UT that might be available at 34? Or if you wanted to look at the DE spot, which player is available at 26 and who is your next player rated at that spot who may reasonably be avail at 34?
To me it it comes down to who would be the two players best possible to get at 26 and 34 that makes the line better as a whole? Sounds very simple saying it but is it as simple to apply it if a GM has fallen in love with a player and he is there at 26 but most would also feel that same player (or a close equivalent) could be avail at 34 so you have to stay disciplined enough to get two quality players at those spots and not strike out on one of them and have to settle for another lesser needed position. Lots to map out on a draft board no doubt.
Oh yeah, it would definitely depend on who's left. No use in reaching for a pass rusher who can't help you and avoiding the best run stuffer in the draft. I was just thinking IF one is available. But yeah go best available for sure.

Don't know who Benjamin Allbright is, but my Bleacher Report update shows him saying he believes the Colts are sniffing around for a trade. Don't know if that would be up or down. Don't know who this guy is. Don't know if he's trustworthy or not. Just sayin.

I like Dexter Lawrence. As I've posted elsewhere, I think one of the biggest reasons Darius Leonard racked up all those tackles is that he had Al Woods in front of him, keeping him clean of blockers. Woods is 31 and a free agent. Lawrence would do the same job, only better. I would be ok taking him at pick 34.
Well we pick 34th also. Any chance he'd still be there then? I'd feel better about getting a pass rusher first THEN the space eater. But as I said no doubt he would help. I just feel pass rushers are in more demand than guys like Lawrence and Tillery.

I guess the Colts spoke privately to Dexter Lawrence. Not sure how I feel about that but he would probably help them.

2019 cap = 2020 Colts FA's

I'm confident that Ballard already has his eyes on next year and the following years. I think he's a forward thinker. He has said he wants to resign his own. And next year the Colts have a LOT of front-line players up for new deals.

Of course all of this is speculation on Ajayi. He has to do this little thing we call "sign a contract". No guarantee he and the Colts strike a deal, and no guarantee his knee is able.
-
I truly believe he is saving the cap space for next year's Colts FA crop. There are quite a few front liners who will be up for new deals, and Ballard has said he wants to keep his own.
-
Love Berry but not at $16M. Maybe half that on a 1 year, incentive laden deal. See if he can stay healthy. Other than that, pass.
-
If Ballard doesn't make a move on either he or Berry, that will tell the tale. He knows'em and knows'em well.

Not surprised by any of this so far. If you are, you didn't listen to Ballard. He's going to take care of his own first, guys he knows, guys he trusts, and guys that have earned it. He'll worry about the others when the prices come down and make more moves after post-draft cuts. This is how he operates. Get used to it.

I wouldn't mind a few of those guys but I'm not holding my breath waiting for it either.

To the OP, I'd probably do exactly what CB is doing now. Being careful not to rush to any signings that will handcuff me down the road or reaching for a guy that is likely to disappoint on a long-term deal. Funchess may not be great but at least they aren't going to be stuck with him for very long if he goes Ryan Grant. The Colts still have some FA's they'd probably like to re-sign and will have more next year. I think it's OK to bring in a few guys to plug in holes for depth but throwing big dollars at elite guys rarely works out in your favor. The smart money is to invest your time HEAVILY in the draft and get elite level guys (ahem.....Darius Leonard...…*cough*…...Quenton Nelson....*cough*) at a MUCH cheaper price for several years like they have. And the Colts will certainly have the draft slots to accomplish just that.

Yep. And I'd even be OK with signing Houston to a short, incentive-laden deal as well. Just not for several years and crazy guaranteed money.
