  1. Solid B with higher potential.  Why?  Because if they didn't hit on anything but the OL position it's a win for the Colts.  Any of the other positions hit and its gravy really.  And I think they hit on the OL.  Only time will tell but I like those guys they got.  This could turn out to be a great draft if Green or Ridgeway turn out to be good.

  2. I see Green being more of a ST contributor early on.  He only has a few years of DB experience and is still learning the intricacies of coverage after being recruited as a WR initially at Clemson.  But his size, speed, and range make him an intriguing prospect certainly.  I'm just not sure you can afford to take a "prospect" in round 2 if you're the Colts.  Hopefully this will pay off.

But the backfield as a whole looks deep and talented right now.

  3. Some people will never be satisfied with whatever they do.  If they woulda picked a DE, LB, and S then people woulda cried that they still can't protect Luck.  There are only so many picks and so many holes you can fill at once.  Sure, I would like to have had a top-tier pass-rusher already in the fold but I applaud the steps they have taken so far.  Luck has to be protected and they are taking steps to ensure that.  There are still several picks left plus UFA's to go.  Let's see what happens.

  4. Hey BOTT, not trying to be flip, and I respect your opinions because everyone is entitled to it, but I was wondering why you poo-poo'd my draft strategy then just basically agreed with what I had proposed.  You said you wanted to fix the OL and get a pass rusher, then you said you would take a RB in the 3rd.....if he was a steal.  Getting Jordan Howard (5th best RB available) in the 3rd WOULD be a steal at our position.  Of course unless the 4th best happens to still be on the board, which I don't see happening.  I thought I had checked all three of those boxes.  And I would go pass rusher 1st because I think there is more value there than going OL 1st.  Outside of Tunsil, are any of those guys available future ProBowlers?  I don't think so.  So if you are going to get just a "solid" guy, then wait until round 2.

  5. I'd personally like to see them go best available pass rusher (whether that's a DL or LB) in round 1 (Lawson?), best available OL in round 2 because I think there will be better value there (Kelly at C?) then RB in round 3 where you may be able to get a guy like Jordan Howard.  That scenario would not suck IMHO.

  6. Good signing IMHO.  He's still young (26) and has served as a capable backup on two Superbowl teams with the 'Hawks.  We are slowly adding much needed depth at positions of need.  As good as Gore is, he is on the other side of 30 and will need some breaks.  He can't go 30 carries anymore IMHO.

For those who poo poo this move, it doesn't matter what order we sign guys in so long as we fill the holes.  They will bring in guys at OL and DL, it just takes time when you are in a money crunch.  They are doing their do diligence and bringing in guys who have shown ability and still have something left in the tank all the while not breaking the bank, which is opposite of what they did last season (that failed).  We still have the draft too and nobody knows what they are going to do their yet either.  And, oh yeah, they STILL have to give a Brinks truck to Andrew Luck.  So lets all hold our collective horses and wait until we see how it all pans out before we poo poo the moves.  What they did last season clearly failed and it is also clear they are trying a different approach.

  7. Congrats to both.  I have no argument in either getting in, but to me, Harrison was just a no-brainer.  I also think Edge should eventually get in although I don't feel he's a 1st-ballot guy and I guess the voters agree.

Either way, I'm ecstatic that FINALLY, after more than 30 years in Indy, someone will represent the 'Shoe in the HOF that played in Indy.  Sure, we've had guys that played here that are in such as Dickerson and Faulk but they went in with other uniforms on.  Now someone(s) will rep the INDY Colts and I couldn't be more ecstatic.

I've always maintained that the year someone wearing an Indy uni went in I would be there to witness it.  Guess I will have to hold up my end of the bargain.  And get ready for more trips in the future with Peyton and possibly Edge, Reggie, Adam, Dwight, and Robert.  So proud to be a fan of the 'Shoe tonight!

  8. I haven't read the entire thread but IMHO I think he CAN win a couple of rings.  He definitely has the talent and I think he "took a step back" this year mostly due to injuries.  I think he was initially injured week 1 in Buffalo and was never right.  He tried to play through it but only got hurt worse.  At any rate, I think he can be back to full health next season and I think (hope) they fix the OL enough that he isn't beaten up again so much next season.  The Colts will go as far as Luck takes them and I think he can take them all the way.  Brady and Manning will be retiring just as Luck will be peaking and he and Cam Newton will have their chances.  If the Colts can continue to add some pieces around him (as Carolina did) they could become dominant in the AFC. Think about it, who in the AFC has a young QB that you're scared of? MAYBE Mariota?  And the more chances at a Superbowl, the more shots at the rings.  I do like the recent coaching hires (ie Philbin as OL coach) they've made and it looks like Chuck is getting more say in personnel decisions so I think they can finally bring in the players they want and coach them up well enough to make a difference.  The only question is can Grigs get it together and improve in FA and the draft?  I think it's possible.

  9. I think better than when he was in this year.  I look at it like this, they will likely upgrade the OL and give him a little more time to throw, making him nearly lethal.  Even if they don't, he was already showing signs of adjusting in that Denver game and I think that would continue.  The Colts will only go as far as Luck takes them and I think next season that could be pretty deep.  I don't know about Superbowl but I think another appearance in the AFC Championship is not out of the question.

  10. I would like to welcome all ex-Rams/new Colts fans and fans who are sitting on the fence!  If you're not sure who to root for and are considering the Colts, think about this:  NFL teams are successful because they have a franchise QB.  Period.  The Colts are in good hands in that area.  Luck is a very good QB with the potential to be great.  Do NOT go by this past season.  By all accounts Luck was hurt in the first game in Buffalo and didn't look himself even when he played after that.  He should be fine next season.  The Colts desperately need OL help, among other things, but the core of the team is pretty good and they aren't really as old as some think.  Most of the old guys weren't really contributing much anyway and will likely be cut loose.  The good corp guys are pretty young still, they just need to add some pieces around them.  Think about this too: their division is not strong.  The Colts had their franchise QB miss 9 games this year and they still only missed winning the division by 1 game!  And when your team wins the division you are in the tournament where anything can happen!

The game experience in Indy is great!  Great facility, great fans, great city.  You can get in/out pretty easily.  Tickets aren't that over-the-top compared to other cities either.  Do yourself a favor and get to a game next season and check it out for yourself.  You won't be disappointed.

Side note: when the Colts played in St Louis last time about 5 or 6 years ago, my wife and I went and there were a LOT of Colts fans there so I know there is a decent-sized fanbase in southern Illinois/St Louis area.  I highly doubt ALL those thousands of people were from Indy.  So get on board, get to Indy, and get LOUD with Colts Nation!

  11. I didn't think there were really many bad calls in this game, I actually agree that Beckham didn't hold it long enough for a TD.  And I HATE the Pats.  What I find incredible is the consistent amount of good breaks they seem to get.  I know "they" say you make your own luck.  But I'm starting to wonder.  When I see fumbles that the other teams can't ever seem to pounce on, INT's that would win the game that they can't seem to hold onto, just unimaginable poor clock management at the end of games that would help you beat them, poor play calling and bad situational football, etc.  Let alone the Pats are good enough on their own merit to beat you.  You do NOT need to give them any help yet teams just consistently seem to offer it up.  I can't figure it out.  Seattle in the Superbowl last season.  The Colts with the "fake punt" or whatever that was.  Teams just seem to go dumb and make mistakes when they play the Pats and I cannot for the life of me figure it out.  Call it karma, call it luck, a deal with the devil, something is up.  Pats will likely win the Superbowl again because hell........teams will help them win it.

  12. Sure there is always a chance.  But the better question is a chance at what?  Making the Superbowl?  I don't think the chance is very good, not when you look at where they'd have to go to get there.  What is the definition of insanity again?  If you mean win the division and make the playoffs?  Then I'd say it's at least 50-50 given the division.  But to me this season was Superbowl or bust and it's looking very much like bust at this point.
