  1. Happy Turkey Day here is a mock draft.

    Charles Harris OLB

Could Missouri be Dline U? Sheldon Richardson, Aldon Smith, Kony Ealy and Shane Ray has all had success in the NFL. Charles Harris shouldn't be any different. He comes in with quick hands and a decent spin move.

    6'3 235lbs

    Pro Comparison: Dee Ford

    Jordan Lewis CB

A smaller CB that excells in man coverage who doesn't mind tackling. He falls because of his lack of size but with the slot wr being more of a showcase in offenses this is a good pick up. Getting Lewis gives us a chance to resign and move Butler to the safety spot.

    5'10 175lbs

    Pro Comparison: Buster Skrine

    Bucky Hodges TE/WR

I know the grumbling going on about mocking a offensive player in the 3rd round. But we live and die on Andrew Luck. Bucky is basically a reciever who has nice hands and deceptive speed who can become a nightmare match up against LBs and Safety. He gives us a huge red zone target and boost our TE core even if Doyle leaves for money.

    6'6 245lbs

    Pro Comparison: Kelvin Benjamin

    Samaje Perine RB

Built like a small tank Perine isn't afraid to run through defenders. He has decent speed but doesn't posses break away speed. He provides willingness to help in pass protection and minimize the drop off from Frank Gore to Josh Ferguson.

    5'10 230lbs

    Pro Comparison: Alfred Morris

    Ejuan Price OLB Pittsburgh

Leverage, speed and power is Price game. He has a non stop motor.

    6ft 255lbs

    Pro Comparison: Elvis Dumervile

    Eddie Jackson safety

A converted cb that could be a hidden gem due to injury. He is aggressive when trying to create turn overs.

     6ft 195lbs

    Pro Comparison: Roman Harper

    Fabian Moreau CB

Decent CB who looks to tip the ball away and make the correct football play over trying to get interceptions.

    6 ft 195lbs

    Pro Comparison: Greg Toler

  2. The Jags don't need to be the only team with a new coach this up and coming off season.

    Kyle Shanahan HC
No.1 offense in the NFL right now. Schemes routes that gets Julio Jones wide open. Atlanta doesn't have a great defense (sounds familiar) yet with their offense they are in every game. We are in a easy division with a great staff and patience we can easily bounce back with him at the reigns.

    Keepers
    Jack Doyle
    Erik Walden
    Jack Mewhort  (extension)
    Donte Moncrief  (extension)
    Robert Mathis  (please retire/vet minimum)

    Off season targets

    AJ Klein ILB
Give him a shot to step out of the shadows of Luke Kuechly. In small samples he did well while Kuechly was injured and he is young with playoff and super bowl experience.

    Zach Brown ILB
Good LB in zone coverage who can attack the line of scrimmage and get into the backfield from time to time.

    K'waun Williams CB
Replacement for Darius Butler. He is young and has experience both in the slot and as safety

    Juinor Gallette OLB
A risky move but when healthy he is a great pass rusher. 2 years back to back injuries should drive his price down.

    Ronald Leary OG
This move sure up the inside of the offensive line.

    Jarvis Jones OLB
Former first round pick who may just need a change of scenery. With our 3 aging OLB hitting free agency we need to get younger. The Steelers do a great job of coaching maybe it will pay off for us.

    Draft

    1. Malik McDowell DE Michigan State
6'6 athletic freak who is quick enough to get into back field and create pressure. His strength and leverage gives him a great bull rush. He can come in and gives us a reason to cut Fat Boy Jones.

    2. Carl Lawson OLB Auburn
Always been talented and often the best player on the field even when Dee Ford was at Auburn. The issue is injuries has interrupted most of his college career. He has excellent speed and good technique which has help him produce pressure and sacks against NFL talent during his time in the SEC.

    3. Gareon Conley CB Ohio State
He has good fit to mirror WRs. His hands are decent but he does a good job of turning his head and looking for the ball.

    4. Ejuan Price OLB Pittsburgh
His speed, strenght and non stop motor has people comparing him to Evlis Dumervile and so does his height. If he was a foot taller he would be taken in earlier rounds.

    4. Jalen Hurd RB Tennessee
Our swiss army knife doesn't have to be small. At 6'4 we can use him like Brandon Jacobs when running the ball. Split him out wide, line him up at FB and as TE. He has soft hands and he runs hard. Allen hasn't proven to be able to play a full season both him and Doyle can work together to make up for his absences during the season.

    5. Jamaal Williams RB BYU
Great vision soft hands and patience for the hole to open up.

    6. Brandon Facyson CB Virginia Tech
A tall aggressive CB from Virginia Tech. The right coaching he could be starting in a year or two.

the modern NFL passing game centers around quick rhythmic passing ....short to intermediate.

I agree wholeheartedly I look at how quick Matt Ryan is getting the ball out of his hand which has been a problem for Luck. Kyle is calling plays to get guys open.

I just think, at this point, you go with a proven head coach.  I don't know how many more years of Luck's prime you want to take a chance on a new HC and hope it works out.  I don't hate these guys with another team, but with THIS team in particular, I think they need some proven leadership.

That's fair, i hear alot of people say he is young but he is close to 10 years in the nfl as a assistant so age and experience is definitely different in this case. I would actually like to see how Luck would do with a great offensive mind. Kyle made RG3 a rookie of the year if thats not great coaching because even Hue Jackson couldn't make him look decent.

People say Patricia has been able to get a lot out of his players.  An undrafted free agent in Malcolm Butler is playing CB1 for them at a solid level, for example.  I really like Patricia, but you have to be cautious with him because of how other Patriot assistants have done when they left New England.  Patricia is apparently very smart and mature, but I'm still on the fence.

Pagano is definitely a problem.  When you're a defensive-minded head coach and your defense have been as bad as they have been during his time here, there's a problem.  When your defense lets Brock Osweiler complete a 14 point comeback in 4 mins, there's a problem.  When you claim the no-huddle is of no use because it doesn't let you substitute, there's a problem.

I hear you but before Kyle Shanahan who knew who Arian Foster or Alfred Morris was? Kyle Shanahan made Jordan Cameron  a fantasy football breakout his year at the browns and got him paid by the Dolphins. Last time Matt Schaub look like a viable starter was under Kyle Shanahan.

We have TY, Moncrief, Dorsett, Allen and we will have a young RB next year to go along with Gore. The Falcons defense is similar to us.... their defense stinks. I think he can come in and with a good draft he can win the division with our weapons.

The 1 thing I will say in defense of Kyle Shanahan is this: I think he learned from his old man the importance of creating running lanes for an elite back like Terrell Davis in Denver back in the day. That's what's killing us: INDY doesn't have methodical 4 yrd runs & then a jailbreak run for like 40 yards to slow down the pass rush on Luck.

Kyle would figure out how to create separation on the ground & he'd figure out how to incorporate the screen game better & use Hilton's speed as a decoy tactic to open up Doyle & Moncrief once he returns to the starting lineup. I'm not totally sold on Kyle yet, but I do like how smoothly that Offense is clicking in Atlanta MTP.

Look, I know I biased when it comes to Big Blue. I will own that. I just like how you can't throw anything at Coughlin that he has seen before & if he's our HC, INDY will never get caught unprepared with our pants down against the elite teams like NE, Seattle, or the Ravens. Teams usually in the hunt in late Nov. & December.

I don't want Coughlin as a consultant. Either he's our new HC or go in another direction entirely. JMO.

Thanks for the read. I've been high on Kyle Shanahan since last year. Like i said above... would say Mike Tomlin John Harbaugh and Sean Payton did well in their 1st time at HC. Remember even though Bruce Arians is old technically this is his 1st real HC job. How long does it take to get a look? Bruce Arians it took forever and people are willing to gamble and forgive Josh McDaniels for Denver  (1st round Tebow might I add) before giving Kyle Shanahan a shot. So what exactly do you guys want to see from him to make you more comfortable?

  7. 16 minutes ago, southwest1 said:

I love you like a brother man, but don't be too quick to dismiss Coughlin man. The Giants during his 2 SB runs didn't crucify themselves with a ton of dumb penalties & Tom won't put up with tardiness from anybody & he holds everybody from QBs to kickers accountable.

Yes, I know about the ODB vs Josh Gordon fiasco under his watch, but I admire the guy's hard nosed discipline man. Tom always had his teams ready to compete even in Jacksonville.

Age who cares? The guy will get us to a Championship & I promise you even in a loss INDY won't get spanked, schooled, & humiliated.

Could he be brought in as a advisor, or some kind of assistant head coach like Chudd was with us while he was still being paid by the Browns? I wouldn't mind that idea to help Kyle Shanahan become successful since some people hate his father

I think that IF Pagano is fired, Irsay will look for someone with a strong pedigree. That's just my gut that is what Irsay would look to do.

I think we can safely rule out Saban, Harbaugh, or Payton. A couple other potential big names that come to mind:

    Jon Gruden

It doesn't appear that Irsay had interest in Gruden when he was considering a coaching change in January so i'm not sure Irsay would look his way if Pagano ends up fired. It's also unknown if Gruden would even want to leave ESPN.

David Shaw (assuming he was willing to leave Stanford)

He might be the best Irsay could do in terms of hiring someone who has been a head coach and successful. Shaw's head coaching has all been at Stanford but he does have 8-9 years experience as an NFL assistant.

If not a proven head coach then?

    Patriot Assistants

I don't think either would come to Indy. If Belichick thinks McDaniels or Patricia can be a good head coach there is no way either of those two end up in Indy, imo.

    Other Assistants

I would find Winston Moss a lot more intriguing than most assistants out there. Most of the assistants feel like it could very well be another Pagano hire though.

I like Winston Moss idk as head coach. I like if he does comes to the team we can go to guys like Kinko Alonso and say hey look at what Moss did for AJ Hawk and Clay Matthews. Also JPP and say look at Julius Peppers in the 3-4 defense. Lastly he maybe able to get guys like Nick Perry to leave with him. I don't know why but teams just don't poach the Packers coaches from them. I do appreciate the read and comments.

If we fire that Jack * Grigson then sure this would be a good job. If we keep him then no one would want it and I wouldn't blame them. Honestly you get Luck and the offense is pretty damn good. We just need smart coaches and a better GM that knows what talent looks like and we could turn this around. if we were to get a top 5 pick this year and a better GM we could really do some good in the draft.

Well Chuck and Griggs are tied to the hip I believe we get rid of both if we do drop the axe. I didn't get to research Mike McCoy HC for the chargers but his HC experience, game planning up until the 4th quarter maybe a great asset to Kyle Shanahan if he gets the HC job.

Very nice analysis and some good choices.  Personally If he makes a change I think it would be a head coach from one of the major universities. I don't see him going the assistant route from another team.  No time to take a chance on seeing whether an assistant can do the job. If he comes from college he will run the whole show.   The no.1 guy is Saban especially if he wins another championship.   I think he would be ready to move and Luck, obviously,  would be hard to pass up.  Others;  Harbaugh, Meyer and Ferentz.  Harbaugh too soon, Ferentz and Meyer maybe.  I think it will Saban if he makes a change.  Gruden is the only one of the announcers I would consider.  But I think Saban would be the target if he wins another.

    Well

I would say Mike Tomlin John Harbaugh and Sean Payton did well in their 1st time at Coach. Kyle father will be there for advice also. He may be young but he has alot of experience. I look at the hoodie coaching tree and it seems like he isn’t a great coach developer. I think if he brings in a good staff he will be ok. Remember even though Bruce Arians is old technically this is his 1st real HC job.

Cable was an Offensive Line Coach battlefield promoted during the Raiders coaching carousel years. To my knowledge, he's never been a coordinator and is definitely not HC material if you go back and look at his body of work.

Yes i agree I would want Kyle Shanahan like Sean Payton was doing in New Orleans call the plays. I don't mind a glorified offensive line coach if they can fix the line issues. He also has been in a couple of offenses since then so game planning would be a plus from someone who has HC experience. But there are other options listed and not listed

  12. 2 minutes ago, Colts_Fan12 said:

I like him he had the Browns D playing good while HC I think he could be a good coach if giving a team to work with the Browns don't count

Lets be honest..... I love my Colts but in their current condition are they really a team at the top of the list when it comes to NFL coaching gigs? I look at McDaniels and Patrica why leave a superbowl contender for us? Why would Gurden leave a well paid cushy job for the Colts. Why would Harbaugh leave Michigan for us. And thats why I looked at a young coordinator

The job security of College football makes it hard to leave. Saban gets top recruiting classes every year and for the most part total control. Why leave that for the NFLwhere any given Sunday someone can win and the draft where great teams normally do not get the best players.

How you feel about Mike Pettine? I thought I had seen you bring him up once before

I actually thought about a defensive coach as head coach but i felt like we've  (the colts) have done that for so many years. He was the HC while Kyle Shanahan was in Cleveland so it may be a connection for him to come in as coordinator.

He was head coach for the Raiders so yes it was a different time in the NFL. I look at our success with Bruce Arians and how Luck was throwing the ball down the field.

  16. Kyle Shanahan HC
He has been a offensive coordinator since 2008. The Falcons is on pace to be his 6 offense out of 9 that would rank in the top 10. Many may point that he has never been a head coach but he has already already dealt with his share of controversy. Public disputes with Cleveland front office, Donovan McNabb, RG3 and Roddy White. I think this will be a great culture shock from Chuck. He has players that rave about his system which is one reason why Alex Mack came to Atlanta after working with him in Cleveland. Here is a quick hit on his resumé.

    Houston
Matt Schaub was a top tier QB with him. He wasn’t very mobile and Kyle made adjustment to make him good to great in Houston. Aaron Foster and Steve Slauton was pretty much unknown before running for at least 1000 yards underneath Kyle and his offense.
    Redskins
RG3 won rookie of the year. He was a mobile QB that Kyle tailored his offensive strategy to. The complete opposite of Schaub yet similar success. He help Alfred Morris break out in the run game also.
    Browns
Hoyer had his best season under Kyle Shanahan and he utilize his TEs more in with this team with Josh Gordon absence. His run game with Terrance West was strong enough to open up the play action for Hoyer.
    Atlanta
He has a WR and RB in the top of their respective positions. Similar to us the Falcons don’t have a great o-line yet he has found success in a running game. Many people point at the team falling off after starting 5-0 but if you look closely you see they are near the top of the league in turning the ball over in the red zone. Not all turn overs are Kyle fault and if they just walk away with a touchdown or 3 their record would look different.

I feel this team has more weapons than he ever had access to. Similar to his father i think he allows almost any RB to get near 1000 yards. He fits his system to the strength of the players and found success with different types of QBs (mobile, strong arm, west coast, read option, pocket QB and time managers).

Lastly at the Browns and Falcons he basically was paired with 1st time coaches whom gave him full reigns on the offensive side. I believe that gives him more insight into HC than most coordinators.

    Offense Coaches Pool

    Tom Cable

He runs a vertical offense which will utilize our speedy recievers. Also he is a great o-line coach. Seahawks have not missed a beat without Beast mode. He believes in execution more so than being cute. His blue collar work ethic should improve our line immensely.

Chances of staying 3 or more years

Great: had a incident when he was head coach for the Raiders.

    Aaron Kromer

He has a history of putting together good offensive lines. Twice winning awards in New Orleans for his work protecting Drew Brees. In Chicago as OC they had 2nd highest scoring team and broke franchise records in in total yards, passing yards, passing touchdowns and first downs. In Buffalo he worked with a offensive line that was successful for 3 different backs and protected a running QB. He has ties to both Marc Tressman and Sean Payton.

Chances of staying 3 or more years

Great: he had troubles with Jay Cutler and leaked club news to media. Front offices will not be forgetting that anytime soon.

    Bill Callahan OC

The man who built the Cowboys great line into what it is today. He uses a zone scheme thats in line with the head coach. Before the Cowboys he help the Jets set franchise records rushing the ball with 3 players going to Pro Bowl. Before that his Raiders led the league in rushing then the next year passing. Bill led the Raiders to their last superbowl appearance. This would be a glorified offensive line coach position. We have young offensive line that could use some guidance.

Chances of staying 3 or more years

Moderate: He left Dallas as soon as possible after play calling was stripped from him.

    Defensive Coaches Pool

    Mike Nolan

Head coaching pedigree with the 49ers. Work all around the league. He has experience running 4-3, 3-4 and 4-2-5. He is very scheme versatile which could have us looking different week to week depending the opponent a la the Patriots.

Chances of staying 3 or more years

Moderate: during his coaching career he has always been a builder of defenses. I believe with the right tools he can be successful.

    Rob Ryan

Similar to Wade Phillips he often improves the team defense tremendously in the first year. He runs a base 3-4 but gives the QB multiple looks to confuse them. This may work well in our division with the young and inexperienced QBs. Chuck is a defensive coach also and this may help Ryan succeed beyond his 1st season. Both Cowboys and Saints were in their 2nd or 3rd year in transforming from a 4-3 to a 3-4 when he was let go.

Chances of staying 3 or more years

Moderate: he seems to wear his welcome out with his personality. Players love him and playing for his family.

    Winston Moss DC

He is the assistant head coach and LBs coach of the Packers. There are only few teams that always seems to be well prepared and the Packers win or lose are one of them. He worked hand in hand to shape the defense with Don Capers. He developed AJ Hawk and Clay Matthews (both as OLB and ILB). He help transform Julius Peppers from 4-3 DE to a 3-4 OLB. His development of players and discipline/preparation of his defense would be a change from the current regime

Chances of staying 3 or more years

Moderate: He is already assistant head coach for the Packers. For some reason the Packers coaches haven't been top picks for up and coming jobs.

  17. Everyone does a mock draft but I wanted to put a twist on the ordinary. Similar to those old Goosebumps books I want to give you the opportunity to participate in this off season plan. So help the Colts fill some needs or go BPA to really get this team to get back to the playoffs.

    Off season addition

Eric Weddle S (coaching staff connection)

Ronald Leary OG (Cowboys have replacement and cap issues)

Courtney Upshaw OLB (ties with coaching staff)

    Draft

Trade our 1st round pick to 49ers for their 2nd, 3rd, and 2 5th round picks and the rights to Anthony Davis OT if he comes back from retirement.

Background note the niners have about 12 picks for the draft and around 50 million in cap space. This trade will get them 2 top 20 players, 2 4th round, 5th round, and 4 6th round picks. In this scenario I threw in Anthony Davis so the niners can keep both of their 4th round picks. I think it makes sense to gamble on him if he stays retired we keep the money if he chooses to play we have a RT for pretty cheap for the next 4 to 5 years.

    2nd (niners)

    2nd

    3rd (niners)

    3rd

    4th

    5th (chargers)

    5th (niners)

    5th

    7th

Give me your best mock draft to fill our holes on our team.
