Well, I think this tells you several things.
1. The Colts aren't signing Tyrell Williams. (obvious). The price was too high.
2. The Colts only signed Funchess for one year. It's a prove it deal in one sense but very expensive. But...only one year. They are obviously going to see what they have with the current group and whomever they draft. And if Funchess proves to be the second coming of Jerry Rice, they have the inside track on signing him. I wouldn't hold my breath, though.
3. And, speaking of the draft........ prepare for the Colts using one of their high picks for a WR. I think that's happening.

Amos isn’t a secret he has a big market He is going to get paid too.
Understood. But he won't demand Collins money and is a darn good player in his own right. He's my choice at S, for what its worth. Hope it happens.

Well, Humphries didn't break the bank at an avg of $9 m per year. That makes the Williams beauty contest very interesting. He's a #2 WR, not a slot, so he's worth more. Is he worth $12m per year? Because that's what I think he'll get. Tough call in a limited market. I hope the Colts go for it. They need to get another impact WR. Williams is that guy. Gonna have to beat out the Browns for his services, though.

There are a lot of safeties on the market right now. Maybe none as talented as Collins but it should be a buyers market from here on out. I'm hoping for Adrian Amos. He would be an upgrade from Geathers at what should be a substantially better value than Collins.
-
The Raiders did very well. The Steelers did the best they could in a miserable situation but definitely came out on the short end of the deal. And the Pats were denied. All in all....not a bad outcome. I'm good with it.

All this back and forth on Flowers made me check on where he grew up.....Huntsville, Alabama. Less than a two hour drive from Nashville. Hmmm.
That would seem to give the Titans an edge if he wants to be close to his roots.
And for what its worth, there is speculation in the Boston media that he could garner as much as $18m per year. I suspect that isn't happening, but it does show that the market is going to be just as crazy as ever. You want this guy, you're gonna have to pay.

Please-----send me Flowers.
A Trey full of them.
Will the Colts fork over the money though? I'm thinking no. Ballard won't go crazy the way some team will. They can really use this guy, but with the awful FA market this year, the bidding will probably start at $13m per year and end well north of that.

Thanks for replying
Inman is a good football player. He has speed, size, and he is a reliable pass catcher.
He was a key contributor for the Colts last year.
He had timing down with Andrew as well
We dont make the playoffs last year without Inman.
He isnt quite WR1 or WR2 mateirial though. He fits the WR3 model very well.
He offers position flexibility as well, as he can play inside or outside
I think that he is someone that we need to lock down
Ballard has also said that he will reward his own players.
We will see in the next 2-3 months
I truly think that he will get a 3 year deal, that with signing bonus, will bring him close to 7 mil per year average. If I am off a mil or two per year........ so be it
Thanks
Well said. There is a place for Inman on this team. Just not with a long term commitment. Two years $10 m with $5 fully guaranteed would seem pretty fair for a guy who was unemployed last year until halfway through the season. If someone offers him more than that..... well, I’d be very surprised.

Cooper > Brown
Uh, no my friend.
Brown is the best receiver in the NFL. Whether or not it pans out is to be seen. But the Raiders got better today and the Steelers slipped again.
-
I wouldn't do anything to help the Jags. I know it might net a decent draft pick but they are the enemy. Do not smooth their path back from cap hell.
-
If they pick a TE it will be late and for value. I can see them going there if the player has slipped down far enough.
-
This is a great move by the Raiders. They got Brown at his fair market rate and didn't give up any top picks. As said earlier, they replace Cooper with a big upgrade for not significantly more $ than they would have had to pay Amari. I suspect AB will now have something to prove re his new rep of being unable to get along with his team mates. Look for a big year out of him.
And it creates one less competitor out there for the Colts re the few decent free agent WRs available. A good outcome all around, except for the Steelers. Not a great day for them.

Well I expect you to be very disappointed then. Because Ballard agrees with me. At least that is what he said
Well then, tell him to give me a call so I can educate him before the draft!

I wouldn't mind grabbing Adrian Amos at all. He's not Collins, but he's pretty darn good, and would improve the Colts D at a more attractive price.

I am saying it would be a wasted pick as far as need goes. If he’s the BPA and no one is close then yea. But we don’t need a WR imo
I would have to disagree with your argument. We do need a WR, and I expect one to be taken as early as the first round and no later than the second. This is an excellent draft for that position, and the Colts need to rebuild their WR corps. There is nothing but hope and speculation beyond TY, with the exception of Inman, and he's really not a #2.
Time to invest.

I like this mock. Wren is a good consolation prize for the best D linemen being plucked early.
For me, under your scenario, I would pick Brown first and grab Taylor Rapp with the 2nd pick. Brown would be the other alpha dog Reich is looking for. And Rapp likely fits the Colts D better.
Thanks for doing this. It’s an intelligent, well constructed mock.

Why do some Colt fans want every diva/malcontent/selfish WR available in FA?
Agree. Not to mention Ballard has all but said Hell No to this type of player until he’s blue in the face. It’s not happening.

Wilkins is a decent backup. And will likely spend his career in that role. He doesn’t have the speed or wiggle for a starting role in the NFL. But he has talent; as others have said he makes positive yards almost every time he touches the ball. His limited touches were reduced even further by a couple of untimely fumbles. But if he cleans that up, he can have a nice career in the NFL. As a backup. He’ll be back next year.

Been saying it a for a while as well...it is loaded. Like legit starting WRs on half the NFL deep. It might not have the top end talent that 2014 had...but definitely the depth.
Because of this...I am fully on board with a double dip at the position. Give me someone like AJ Brown or Butler...and one of the slot WRs like Isabella. I know we want (and the Colts need) defensive playmakers...but I also think there is a unique opportunity to pick up 2/3 of a starting 3-WR set.
I've begun to think like this as well. There is an opportunity to set yourself up for years to come at WR. Give me Parris Campbell at 34 and a guy like Isabella in the 3rd, and you've got lightning in a bottle.
This scenario is probably dependent upon what success the Colts have in free agency. If they sign a free agent WR , they don't pick two in this draft.

I agree with the Burns pick. I think the guy has some special qualities and would be a perfect pick at 26. I also hope that Parris Campbell lasts to #34. Burns followed by Campbell would be huge.
-
If they can get Inman back at a realistic value, I totally agree. He would be a key depth piece.

Well, it does change things somewhat. Brissett's market has shrunk, though it isn't dead. If the guy stays with the Colts for another year, it certainly isn't the worst thing in the world. But it will mean the Colts have to decide whether to invest in a rookie to groom as Brissett's successor now or wait and sign a vet next off season. I really don't think they can grab a rookie in the 2020 draft to throw him into the mix as Luck's backup. That is flirting with disaster.
I'm guessing Brissett stays put, goes FA in 2020, and the Colts get a nice comp pick out of it. They will then sign a competent vet as Luck's backup. Not the worst outcome.

If we do not do not sign Williams, Adam Humphries is a guy I would love to have. He could be our Edelman. If we get either guy, we would not have to draft a WR.
I agree that signing Williams or Humphries would be a good thing. I disagree about not drafting a WR if they snag a good FA. The Colts need to build for the future while also shoring up their weak WR corps with a veteran. I hope they take a WR Day 2, and I don't care where.

How about this?
Hilton, FA WR, Draft pick. Inman, Cain.
The others you mentioned will likely be gone, or be on the PS. And I’ve only listed 5 WRs. We might carry six.
Lots of options.
This makes some sense to me. I do think they will carry 6 WRs, but that said, these would be the ideal first 5. Give me Williams or Humphries as the FA wideout. The team claims they need another alpha dog at WR. You grab one in FA and draft one as well. Then look out.

Agree with most of this comment. Well said. But....if you are suggesting the Colts won't also choose a WR with a Day 2 draft pick, I disagree. I think they are determined to fix this receiving mess but with younger, more affordable players.
