  1. Don't forget..manning was throwing to Marvin Harrison for the firsst 5 years of Reggie's career..he was basically a decoy..Chad was the #1 guy in cincinnati for the last 9 years.That's a big reason for his early numbers and also the big reason for Reggie's early numbers, plus remember Reggie was hurt in training camp a few days before the first pre-season game of his career..Lastly, 2010 was the first time any many years that the Colts starting Offense played all 16 games to qualify for the post season..So I think it is save to say that Reggie only played a few quarters in the last 3 games of each of the seasons between 2003-2009.. and some of those games he only played a few series.

    Just saying...

    I love me some Reggie and his hands of gold, but IMO Chad Johnson was a far superior WR. Ill get hated on, and that's fine, but I truly believe that. Reggie and Chad came in the same year, but have entirely different career paths, but are similar players, it's remarkable. The ying to yang if you will. One to a winner with a time MVP QB, a top notch FO, etc etc. The other to the Bengals. Chads first 4 years were Jon kitna and a rookie Carson Palmer and he still put up 282 4124 25. Thats incredible for a young WR.

  2. Because Mucho Stinko never had great deep speed in the first place and now is really just a glorified posession receiver and has clearly lost a step physically and he was never that great a redzone threat either.

    At this point, he seems like an upgrade over Deion Branch (who Brady has natural chemistry with), but the Patriots loss in the play-offs stemmed from their inability to stretch the field and signing Stinko doesn't solve the problem of not having a deep threat for them.

    Last year Mucho Stinko wasn't even the main receiving threat on the Bengals as TO got the majority of the deep looks. But who knows, maybe a change of scenery is what he needs and he's always wanted to play for Belichick so maybe it'll work out well but I just don't think he'll have nearly the impact Moss had.

    Not alot of love for Chad eh?

    Some facts for you: Chad has more PB and AP seasons than Reggie Wayne. Reggie, in 12 more games has 36 more Rec. 35 less yards, 3 more TD's, and Reg avgs almost a full yard less per reception.

    They came into the league the same year. Ones had Peyton Manning his entire career, in a historically weak the divison. The other, not so much.

    Food for thought.

  3. I like to love we got, but its simply not true. Phillip Rivers lead the best passing attack in the NFL last year, and he did it without any true WR. Don't come with the "He didn't have the injuries we did" crap either. He lost EVERYONE, and still had 3 less TDs, 10 more yards, and 93 less completions.

  4. I love it when the Reggie Wayne haters come out of the woodwork. Have fun watching him have a great year and earn an extension or a new contract. He's in great shape and won't have to bear so much of the load as he did last season. Can't wait.

    Yea because that's one of the things we've learned this off season. Teams are absolutely willing to give great aging WR lots and lots of $. Probably in the 6yr 50 mill range. No doubt about it.

  5. I like the recent moves of Simms and Anderson. As well as our most recent draft. So the FO is moving in the right direction as of the last 2 transaction periods (Chris Polian?). But unfortunately I am worried the past 6 transaction periods may come back to haunt us (Bill?).

  6. Of that list of teams that have put pro bowlers drafted from 05-10, only the Packers, Steelers and Giants have won a SB. All those teams have drafted higher on average than the Colts over the span of time. Plus, Austin Collie would easily have been in the mix for pro bowl. His rookie season alone was very impressive.

    The Pats, Steelers, Giants, Saints, GB all won the SB from 05-10. (Saints have had 4 PB)

    Drafted higher? Does that matter in the 3rd round? Doubtful.

    I like Collie, I do, but our 2nd best pick (Bethea 1st IMO) in 5+ years is a slot WR in the 4th round?

  7. Hmmm so Polian has failed the team in the last 5 years? 2 SB appearances, and 1 win even with all the injuries this team has suffered lately.

    Seriously....

    Seriously.

    Nothing more to contribute to the thread than "The Colts had 2 SB appearances"? No opinions on recent drafts? No opinion on our UDFA list? Just that a core of players from 98-04 led us to the SB.

    Let me ask you another question. In 2005 would you say the core of the Colts roster was Peyton/Marv/Freeney/Edge? Now in 2011, would you say the Colts core is Manning/Wayne/Freeney?

  8. We had just won the Super Bowl, went 13-3 the next season, lost to the Chargers because we didn't have a backup pass rusher. What do we do in free agency that makes us better that year?

    First year the offensive line was a problem, but we still won 12 games with Manning at 75% for the first half of the year (and he wins MVP anyways), and we lost to the Chargers again. Maybe a lineman to replace Jake Scott, but really, are we saying that we weren't good enough to win that year because we didn't play in free agency?

    Won 14 games. Went to the Super Bowl. What's the problem? What should we have done differently in free agency?

    I don't think that we should be as allergic to free agency as we are, but you're acting like the Colts suck every year. To the contrary, we're a contender every year.

    Simply listing all the Colts UDFA and FA from 05-10 (Ive posted 05,06 twice now but the site keeps going down.) Letting people make there own opinions on the Colts FO transactions. Some say we do go after FA, so I've listed those that we went after and have signed in the past 6 years. A nice easy list to click on and show everything the FO has done player personal wise. I'll reserve judgement for when I have it all laid out. But from what I've seen, 05-10 has been a complete tank job.

  9. I haven't looked it up but why did you pick only 3 years if you're asking about the last 5?

    BC the last 3yrs were easily avail on Wiki, Im in the process of finding the others, but it takes time. lol.

  10. In the last 5 years the Colts have been to two SBs and won 1. That is not failing.

    They do bring in proven players, every year the Colts bring in some free agents, sometimes they work out (AV, Booger until the injury) sometimes they don't (the two Olineman last year than many on the forum penciled in as starters as soon as they were signed). What the Colts don't do is, to paraphrase Irsay, spend big money on other team's problems. When was the last time a high priced, high profile free agent worked out for the new team? Brett Favre? maybe, not for the Jets. TO to the Bengals? umm no. Rarely do teams let superstars walk for any reason. Why spend big money on a player when the team that is most familiar with that player does not think they are worth it.

    Some of the guys brought in (from wiki)

    2007- * Defensive back coach Rod Perry [12], from Carolina Panthers.

    * OG Rick DeMulling [13]

    * P Reggie Hodges [14]

    * LB Mike Labinjo [8]

    * S Norman LeJeune [15]

    * QB John Navarre [16]

    * TE Mike Seidman [17]

    2008

    * Aaron Moorehead

    * Mike Seidman

    * Dom Rhodes

    2009

    *Hank Baskett

    *Brandon Barnes

    *Kyle DeVann

    *Aaron Fransico

    *Ed Johnson

    and a bunch of other warm bodies.

  11. The Colts have been widely regarded as one of the best teams in the NFL for nearly 10 years now. While most of the love gets shared amongst Peyton and the Front Office, lets take a look at what the FO has done for us in recent years. 2005-2010

    The Colts have had 52 draft picks in that span (although 2010 is still up in the air):

    Pro Bowlers-

    Joesph Addai- 2007

    Antoine Bethea 2007, 2009

    Starters:

    Hayden CB-2005 2nd Rd

    Addai RB- 2006 1st Rd* Pro Bowl

    Bethea FS- 2006 6th Rd* Pro Bowl

    Charlie Johnson OL- 2006 6th rd

    Pollak OL- 2008 2nd RD

    Garcon WR- 2008 6th rd

    Powers DB- 2009 3rd rd

    Collie WR- 2009 4th rd

    Colts 1st Rd picks since 05

    05 Marlin Jackson

    06 Addai

    07 Gonzo

    08 None

    09 Brown

    10 Hughes

    So, has the new NFL game passed Polian, has it been a success, or has he just had bad luck?

    Now I haven't been able to narrow down all of our FA, and UDFA moves yet, so if you have any available, please share, as it will only help in our assessment of the FO.

    EDIT: For reference I went thru some other elite teams and pro-bowlers drafted from 2005-2010:

    New England - 6

    Ravens - 3

    Jets - 5

    Cowboys - 5

    Chargers - 4

    GB - 4

    Pitt - 3

    ATL - 2

    NYG - 3

    Phi - 2

  12. Wow. This post is soooo bad, but I'll stick to the part I've highlighted.

    UDFA's are basically considered a part of the Draft pool, and no one hits that stable as well as Polian.

    Number of Colts draft picks:

    05-10

    06-7

    07-9

    08-9

    09-8

    8.6 draft picks a year.

    UDFA- undrafted.....not hard.....

    Doogan please do me a favor and list some of these UDFA who have come to Indy and really made a name for themselves.

  13. Colts 'quality' draft picks from 05 to now:

    1. Hayden, 05, 2nd rd

    2. Bethea 06, 6th rd

    3. Garçon 08' 6th rd

    4. Collie 09, 4th rd

    5. Powers 09, 3rd rd

    The only special one I see on this list is Bethea, everyone else is simply a marginal NFL starter. Please tell me again how our FO has succeeded these past several years. BC they get marginal production out of late round draft picks? That's success? I'm not asking for every draft to land a marquee player at every position. But Polian has botched these last few years. Period. In 2005 the core of this team was manning/marv/Freeney/Wayne..... In 2011 it's manning/Freeney/Wayne.......

  14. Adding Randy Moss will help what? Seriously. Is he a bigger deep threat than Garcon? No. Is he better than Wayne? No. Will he run across the middle like Collie or Clark? No.

    Are you serious? Better deep threat than garçon. Yes. Better than Wayne. Maybe. Will he run across the middle. Yes. The only knock on Randy is he's a year older than Reggie, that's it.

    Do you know who Randy Moss is?

    Reggies best yds per rec he was 15.7, in 2004. Moss last yr in NE, 15.4...

  15. A Colts FA thread, I'm sure this will be filled with Redskins references, o wait.....

    Nobody's asking for the Colts to sign the top dog every year, and the posters who continually bring up the Redskins are laughable at best. But this 'building thru the draft' cliche being thrown around is so over used, and over implied. You have a 52 man roster, and roughly 8 draft picks a year, you do the math, now tell me how important it is for proper FA management. To continually give Polian undying gratitude bc he drafted Peyton in 98, Edge in 99 and Freeney 02 is getting out of control. He's clearly botched nearly every draft from 05 till now, and he continues to ride the Manning over Leaf wave. The Indy media is so scared of offending the precious Colts that they don't help in holding the FO accountable, and we as fans are to busy drooling to do it, so now you have an aging team, being pointed aimlessly to the future, being captained by the son of a GM.

  16. I'll take the chance of winning a Super bowl every year than watching every year than a Lions, Browns or Rams fan...

    wouldn't you?

    That's the right attitude! Instead of fixing decade long problems, let's just be thankful we aren't the lions,browns or rams. That's the way to be! I don't need to fix my flat tire on my Lexus because it could be a Pinto! Brilliant!

    Btw the Rams, won and lost just as many SB as we did in the 2000s.

  17. Can't run when you are behind on the scoreboard. We have been saying it for years but the D is built to protect a lead and I have faith that the Colts O can return to a similar level that we saw in 2004.

    Why shouldn't our Defense be able to play well without the lead?!?! That's my biggest pet peeves about the def. 'they are built to play with a lead' and that's just how it is. Why cant our def be good when it's 0-0, 7-14, 10-21?

  18. Here are some recent Colts 5th round draft picks:

    06 Micheal Toudouze

    07 Roy Hall

    08 Marcus Howard

    09 (end of 4th) Terrence Taylor

    10 Brody Eldridge

    The Patriots once again have shown they are ahead of the curve. This is a possible AFC changing move. If it doesnt work out then he's cut, out, done, bye bye. But if it does work. That is an unbelievable line.

    Rodney Harrison, Moss, the Seymour trade, this.

  19. I dream of Peyton ending his career with something he's never had, a big, fast, leaping WR. Sydney Rice. But that won't happen. We've got to many WR as it is now. Well get TC bodies like a poster said but outside of that, the colts don't have the mulatto to spend.
