  1. I doubt we lose 2 of those 4 starting WRs. Of course it's all speculation at this point but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that doesn't happen for several reasons.

I agree with everything you said but this. lol.

Garçon, gonzo, and collie have never even come close to starting all 16 games in there careers. Not once. Each player, each year during there career has missed multiple games. And there careers are not very long. As we know, as one ages injuries become more likely, now Reggie hasn't missed a game, but the likelyhood of him missing time increases as well. Factor in all of this, and it is very clear to me we will lose at least 2 of them during the season. Obviously I hope for no injuries, but I just can't see that happening one bit. Its all speculation at this point, but educated guesses none the less.

  2. How about the cancer that he is,in the locker room?

This makes me laugh. Do you know why TO had to speak up and be the mouth? One he has a big mouth, but two, his QBs were Jeff Garcia, Mcnabb, and Romo. Throughout Owens career he was never on a team with a 'leader' so the dude ran his mouth. Simple as that. You think TO could come to Indy and pretend to run the show? Not happening. But he could do that to Jeff Garcia who didn't have the FO backing, he could do that to McNabb, who everyone knows is a push over baby, and he HAD to do it with Romo bc the dude was a sudden phenom in a football crazed state, with a wacky owner, tough as nails GM, and dating a pop star, Romo was in way over his head.

The fact of the matter is TO was always in some pretty wild circumstances, many of them his own creation, but the guy is a football animal and would help any team immediately simply by being on the field. Teams like ours have the ability to bring in 'troubled' players and get the most out of them. Most trouble is solved by winning, and we do a lot of that.

  3. I'll have to look at the tape again, but the biggest positive I think we saw last night was that we were getting push from the interior of the line, both from Harris and Nevis... and that was without Freeney in the lineup. Nevis, in particular, showed a huge motor.

The importance of this can't be overstated. Consistent push up the middle => disruption in the backfield => improved run and pass defense, making everyone's job easier on defense. I think this will be our most improved aspect this season.

While I agree with what you said, I liked the push, and disruption, but I'm worried Freeney isn't going to adjust accordingly. Other teams will adjust and run it away from our middle, and if Freeney continues to over pursue on the outside, then they will just continue running the ball for 5yds a carry, until they reach our LBs.

  4. That was then, this is now.

Mark it down - TJ H. does not supplant any of the current Colt starters if he's signed. End of file.

Are we assuming zero injuries. Because if that's the case, then I agree, he wouldn't start above any of them. No one should. But if past results are future indicators, and most here believe they are, then we are going to lose at least 2 between Reggie,Gonzo,Garçon, Collie. Come Week 8, having a savvy NFL veteran WR on your roster is nothing but good news. As I said before, I'd much rather do high risk high reward (moss, to) than go after housh or a cotchery, but in the end I'd welcome both choices because neither move could do anything but help this team succeed. Let's face it, the only way we win is if Peyton puts up #s, our Def, while may be improved are still not capable of shutting out quality teams, even when healthy.

  5. Exactly. He's only had one "big" year in the league & a couple others that were on the more productive side. He could be a good backup possession type guy.

His 'big year' and productive seasons did more than any Colt WR not named Reggie Wayne on this roster. And they were all done as a #2. now Housh is a shell of his former self, and if we were to go after a 1yr gamble WR I would rather it be moss. More reward. But this love for our WR core is getting borderline ridiculous.

Between AG,PG, and AC they have a COMBINED 9yrs, 99 games, 335 rec, 4204yds, 32tds......that's 3 WR all playing with possibly the greatest QB of all-time.

    Housh 10yrs, 137 games, 616 catches, 7091yds, 43 TDs.....as a #2 option, on bad teams.

Garçon and AG have proven they are not anything more than a borderline #2 WR, and collie although showing promise, has to many questions. And Reggie is going to be 33. Our WR aren't nearly as phenomenal as everyone thinks.

  6. Some of those who recorded the game need to go back and look at the Garçon catch. Just because you leave your feet to make a catch doesn't make it a 'great catch'. That had TD written all over it, it was a really well thrown ball by Painter. Garçon looks back for the ball. Slows tremendously, pushes off the CB in the direction to the ball, and falls losing his balance. He had an easy 2 steps on King. Perhaps Peyton would have let him run the ball down, but painter put it out in front coming into the right shoulder. garçon turns and catches it over his left shoulder and falls. Just food for thought.

I dont expect Spann to come off the plane as a Colt. This isn't your first go around guy. Hold onto the ball. I know you seen a kickoff before.

Brown looked hardened. Perhaps he knows his job is on the line. He ran hard, cut hard, and moved it up field. Something he rarely seems to do.

Our LBs seemed to be around a lot of plays, but didn't disrupt to many. Plenty of tackles, but not a lot of prevention.

Colts haven't changed the playbook at all. spread the field, one or two different running options. Stretch and dive. And about 3 intermediate routes. Ho hum. And everyone saw that our QB accuracy isn't nearly good enough for that unless it's 18.

It's amazing how important 18 is, so amazing it's sad.

  7. Lots of 12-4, 13-3s up in here.

I guess a lot of people feel this team we have now is better than all the ones weve had in the past few years. during those years it truly was a 3 team race in the AFC. Now the league has gotten harder, and we've gotten older, and we are still going to match past production? I just can't see it happening.

10-6 if all goes well. Colts will lose at least 2 division games. Luckily we face ATL here, but as a previous poster mentioned, I feel those WR will exploit our secondary, and they have the run game to back it up. ATL by a hair. We'll lose against NO,NE,BALT, all are away, in extremely aggressive environments. 10-6.

If they do the same thing they did last time Peyton missed training camp and start 3-4, we aren't going to make the playoffs. We'd be facing nearly all AFC opponents (ATL,Car are the only NFC) nearly all of them playoff caliber. I'm sure they would love nothing more than to bury us, and make sure we can't reach. When sharks smell blood....

  8. You'd be surprised if he does get in at all? That's why you have no credibility.

Marvin is a LOCK for the HoF. But if Cris Carter wasn't not a first ballot guy, Marvin may not be either. Marvin's regular season accomplishments alone make him a lock. The only real argument against Marv not being a first ballot guy is his playoff performances. He was often taken out of critical playoff games with physical corner play and safety help.

One caveat: IF that FBI investigation turns up anything in that little murder investigation all bets are off.

No credibility? Really? Read a book guy. Monk, Carter, reed, Brown are all still waiting to or just got in the HoF. Marvin, if he's lucky, will have to wait as long as Monk, and that is clearly not 1st ballot. And as I said earlier depending on Marvins official retirement year he could get caught up in a back log further hindering his chances. Not only that, but it's highly doubtful the voters let Marvin in before TO and Randy Moss who are/were considered the best of the decade ( everywhere but Indy).

  9. All this HOF talk has got me thinking about who the Top 10 Indy Era Colts are. Obviously just opinions, but should be fun. FO and Coaching can be included.

    1. Peyton. This is a Gimme.

    2. Polian. Although I haven't been happy with him circa 2006, no denying what he's done.

    3. Dungy. Won a SB.

    4. Edge. Manning may have been the centerpiece, but it all started coming together when Edge came to town.

    5. Harbaugh. Captain comeback. Embodied local Indy at the time. Rugged, just got it done.

    6. Faulk. HoF start, unfortunately it ended in StL.

    7. Freeney. Tenacious, fast, new wave of DE. HoF potential.

    8. Harrison. Describe a 'Colts' guy, quiet, lunch pale, gets the most outta there talent. Marvin fits the bill.

    9. Saturday. Same as Marvin. Unheralded, nothing special, yet he's a perennial PBer.

    HM: marchibroda, Dilger, Lamey

Not a lot of 83-94 Colts on my list. Is it new school bias, or just a general lack of established Indy talent? Curious about everyone elses opinions.

  10. IMO, its a stetch to say HALF of this list are 1st ballot guys.

That's part of the point. Some of them were top 15 finalists this year(Martin, dole man,Bettis). And depending on the year of eligibility for Marvin he certainly won't make it in 1st ballot. ESP, if Carter and Brown make it in the coming years. After them the next one in is moss. Not to mention coaches and FO personal are considered each year well. It's not the all WR HOF it's the NFL HOF to many positions eligible to say anyone but the greatest of great are 1st ballot. Farves, Mannings, Lewis etc.

  11. Some of Marvin's accomplishments:

-Averaged 84.77 receptions per season, which is second to the all time record held by Sterling Sharpe who averaged 85 receptions per season. He had previously been averaging 93 per season until 2007, where he missed the majority of games with a knee injury, resulting in a 20 reception season.

-3rd most receiving yards per game throughout a career (76.7 yds/game)

    -2nd most receiving yards in a decade (10,439) 2000-2009

-Holds the NFL record for receptions in a single season with 143, set in 2002.

    -Most receptions in a 2 season period (252), 2001–2002; 3 season period (354), 2000–2002; 4 season period (469), 1999–2002; 5 season period (563), 1999–2003; 6 season period (649), 1999–2004; 7 season period (731), 1999–2005; 8 season period (826), 1999–2006; 9 season period (885), 1998–2006; 10 season period (958), 1997–2006; 11 season period (1,022), 1996-2006.

And a lot more. You could double him, you could gameplan for him, do anything you want, and he would still find a way to beat you. He had an incredible career and put up some huge numbers. His career did end poorly, with the injury and the allegations and everything, but his on-field impact was huge. He is for sure a HOFer. Why would you be surprised if he got in at all?

Here is a list of the WR that will make it in before Marvin: Randy Moss, TO, Cris Carter, maybe Tim Brown. And I would say that's a fair assessment. And that's just WR.

Here is a list of guys waiting to get in the hall who are retired, or will be retired soon, who will all get consideration before Marvin simple bc of the back log of WR

    curtis Martin

    Jerome Bettis

    Cortez Kennedy

    Willie Roaf

    Chris Doleman

    Brett Farve

    micheal strahan

    Warren sapp

    johnathan Ogden

    Kurt Warner

    Ray Lewis

    Tony Gonzalez

    Jason Taylor

    Urlacher

    Hutchinson

Nearly all are 1st ballot, yet there are only so many spots available per year. The likely hood of Marvin being in on the 2nd or even 3rd try are pretty low in my opinion. ESP if he has still yet to file his retirement papers.

  12. How is first ballot talk crazy? Marvin's numbers and impact at his position cannot be disputed. I am not even a huge Marvin fan, but have total respect for his career numbers. In his prime years Marvin would have been the no 1 WR on just about any team in the NFL.

Marvs numbers are good. But not good enough to clearly distinguish him from the pack of other WR. Look I love marvin as much as the next guy, but he's not even going to sniff 1st ballot.

There is a back log at WR to begin with with Carter, Brown, Reed. He leads by 1 rec. Doesn't lead yards or TDs. And that's just the WR. Soon you've got guys like curtis Martin, Roaf, Kennedy, Bettie coming up for induction. Not to mention both Owens and Moss will be retiring soon,, and he won't beat any of those two. Now add in Guys like Farve, Ray Lewis, Hutchinson, Ogden all entering the ends of there careers, and the back log is even greater. Now add in the fact Marvin had Peyton and none of those other guys did, and it tilts the scales even more.

  13. The bigger "conspiracy" is how did Broadway Joe get into the HOF... ????

Check his stats and you will doubt the whole NFL HOF process.

As a fellow stat junkie, there's so mystery to that at all. You'd have to appreciate what Joe did for the game of football. Stats aren't everything and Broadway Joe is prime example. If they voted again today, he would still be in 100%.

  14. Just like the Sims, Anderson, Harris moves, nothing bad could come of this. So what if we don't NEED him, if he just wants to play for a winner and plays for incentives, only good things could come. If he's not old Moss then he's cut/doesn't reach incentives, but if it's motivated, Randy Straight Cash Homey Moss, well then, that would just be silly to have him with Peyton.
