  1. Even that seems harsh, if not unprecedented.  I mean, I wouldn't mind as a Colts fan, but I wouldnt' expect everyone to basically step down or get fired.  I think the punishment would be one of the harshest, if not harshest, handed down in NFL history were it proven that the Pats were found guilty of tampering given their previous violation, though.

Even as someone who doesn't like the Patriots, I think that's probably extreme and unlikely.

I think that's what I would demand as a fan OF the pats before I could really be a big fan again. Would I follow them, sure. but would I now buy the paraphernalia, make sure my sunday's are clear during the season...probably not.

  2. Do you know how hot those balls would be when handed over to the refs? It would be obvious and painful. At that point the ball would cool quickly and would be under pressure by the time they could safely give the balls to the refs without getting caught. They would have to figure out the temp if the room prior to inspection, inflate it higher than 13.5 so that when it cools to room temp is at 12.5. But once that occurs, it's so impossible for that to go below by that much once taken outside. Because at that point it doesn't matter if it was filed with hot air or room temp air because it's room temp when measured. So it just brings us back to Tim temp air cannot lose that much pressure when taken out in those temps.

A ball at 12.5 at room temp is @ 11.4 when taken outside to 50 degrees. That's not debatable.

  3. How many times have people come out and vehemently criticized investigations against them and ended up being that they really were guilty?  I don't disagree that they could really believe what they're saying and actually be right.  I also believe it's entirely possible that they're putting this front on in defense of themselves regardless of the outcome - which could go against them.  Until all the numbers and facts are released, there are still some very valid questions that need to be answered such as, why were the Pats footballs deflated under the limit and the Cotls footballs were not?  Science can settle that of course, but as we've seen all the dozens of experiments, there's no clear definitive answer to that question yet.  Why would a ball boy choose to take 24 footballs into a bathroom where, by most state laws and regulations, is illegal to have a camera in a private bathroom?

I'm sure there are others, but these questions don't get honestly answered unless the Patriots are honest in their cooperation.  If there isn't a camera in the bathroom, it's pretty tough for the NFL to prove the ball boy tampered with the footballs unless he confesses - and I don't see why he would.  So it basically gets left to the imagination of the person hearing the evidence.  Is someone lying or are they telling teh truth?  We may never know and that's pretty difficult for me to swallow even if the Pats 3 most recognizable faces ahve stated they didn't do anythign wrong and demand an apology if the evidence doesn't show any tampering.

They have played this so strong, I am now convinced if the pats are found guilty of deliberately tampering, ie, the ball boy did it under directions of someone, the only reasonable outcome is Kraft has to step down, hand off to his son. His son would have to fire BB, and cut Brady.

Plus whatever penalty assessed by the league.

My take on the demanded apology is not that there is an investigation in as much as how its been handled with "leaks"

  4. The investigators were going to get that footage, period.

The only choice for the Patriots was to turn it over immediately and appear cooperative...or destroy it and really screw themselves.

Thats accurate for sure. But why then do the strong denial pressers. If the pats thought the vid had even a chance to incriminate them, why not just keep saying, we are co operating and waiting for the outcome, cant comment? Thats what has me so confused about how the Pats are handling their end.

  5. BH's point was to say that if the Pats are doing something within the process of inflating the balls before inspection that would knowingly allow the pressure to drop, than this would be an example of their failings in regard to adhering to the rules.

No matter. This isn't what happened. The balls were leaked out after the official check. .....and whaddaya know........the chain of custody shows the balls disappearing into a private room. How neat.

Tell me something. How incompetent would an organization have to be to find the evidence that would convict them, then deliberately give that to the NFL knowing what it had on it, then issue a series of denials to the public.

you can think they are liars and cheaters, I have no issue with that..but do you think they are ~that~ incompetent?

  6. Excuses! Excuses! Excuses! The bottom line is that there is a league standard for football inflation and the Patriots failed to meet that standard.  It was their responsibility to meet the standard and they didn't.  All of these excuses for their failure to follow the rules are completely irrelevant.  We can argue their intention all week long and it will not matter a whit because the rulebook does not say anything about intention when specifying the inflation of footballs nor does it say anything about environmental effects on that inflation.  It specifies an allowable range of pressures and that is all it says.  The Patriot footballs were not in compliance with that standard.

All of these excuses for the failure to be in compliance with the rulebook are no different than an offensive lineman who says "But ref! A bee stung me on the calf and that is why I moved."  It doesn't matter.  It is his responsibility to not move just as it was the Patriots responsibility to provide properly prepared footballs for the game.  If measuring them in a climate controlled room would result in them being out of compliance during the game it is their responsibility to point that fact out as part of their responsibility to provide proper footballs.  They did not do so.

Actually, your analysis is completely wrong.

The rule being discussed here is not tampering with the balls after they have been approved by the league. Its on the refs to ensure the balls are at the proper inflation before certifying them. The teams have no responsibility in the initial pressure. They could submit totally flat balls, and its still legal.

  7. Kraft's drawn the line in the sand ,that's for sure.  Of course, if Bill's science doesn't hold up (or at least the NFL doesn't buy it) and there are no cameras in the room the locker room attendant went and everyone plays dumb, one has to wonder if the NFL will come down hard anyway.  You shouldn't get to avoid any punishment because everything that could lead to any direct proof is within the control of the accused and they do not produce any evidence that proves the Patriots either innocent or guilty.

This isn't criminal court.  Innocent until proven guilty doesn't apply nor does the beyond all reasonable doubt standard.  So for me, the circumstantial evidence is the PSI's of the football and whether Bill's explanation is supported by the science.  If it's not, I would ahve no problem laying down the axe.

    They wont need an axe.

You have Kraft, one of the most powerful and influential owners in the league right now.

You have BB, when one talks of best coaches in any sport of all time, his name is in the discussion.

You have Brady. When people talk GOAT QB, his name is in the discussion.

to use a poker analogy, they just went all in on the flop, using their legacies as chips.

  8. What is happening. Surely even the Pats fans see how....  I don't even know what the word is.... it is for Kraft to demand an apology?

Here is my opinion. I want to stress, mine :)

when spygate unfolded, BB really did think he was in the right. I dont agree, but I think for whatever reason, he did. Kraft actually called him a *. Kraft pretty much said, we did it, take your lumps and shut up.

Now with this happening, they are positive they have the right information, and are fed up with the media and going on the offensive. Its all a PR game now.

Do I know what they know or the NFL knows? I wish!

But Kraft just threw down the gauntlet.

If it's not the first video in the link it will be the second one. Or you can just click on the spot to the left that says that video is next

I believe you. And once you posted your response and I read it..I was like, dang, thats right, there was a vid out there. Thanks for pointing that out.

  10. No freaking way man...I'm sorry but I vastly will argue here....BB is FAR...and I mean FAR FAR FAR more valuable than Brady to that Franchise. BB is the greatest coach of all time seriously (even without his cheating antics). He could take his team to the Super Bowl time and again with the likes of Jamarcus Russell and Tim Tebow. I guarantee...GUARANTEE you that BB is more valuable in the eyes of KRAFT than is Brady...I would absolutely put $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on that.

Thats fine. This is simply a difference of opinion on that. You are certainly entitled to what you believe.

  11. Has anyone reported on exactly what the protocol is at that stage?

If they are supposed to be brought immediately/directly from the refs' locker room to the field, or what.

I have no idea, but not heading directly to the field..that's not cool at all.

If there is no written protocol, then I suppose the best defense is, where does it say I cant use the bathroom? Maybe the dude heads to the head all the time. Maybe he never does..

    we're in a vacuum.

  12. Thing is (IMO) BB can deny this all he wants even if he knows there's bad evidence to the contrary. What does he have to lose ? He for sure wasn't the one who did the instructing. Brady says over and over " I didn't do anything to deflate the footballs." Our ball boys do a great job getting the balls ready. He on the other hand looked very guilty and minced his words very carefully. Anyway , BB can lie all he wants without fear of being caught if he's culpable. He knows there is no taped evidence of footballs being deflated . The NFL can pretty much prove it happened if the science doesn't back up what BB claims and my guess is that this is the outcome.

Say what you want about the pats, but that makes no sense at all. BB would not do that presser without the blessing of the owner. Brady is Krafts bread and butter. Kraft would not allow that presser to happen if they thought there was 1% chance it was any other reason for the balls being deflated. He would throw Belichick to the wolves before he would Brady.

If it was the ball boy, Brady knew. I can almost assure you BB and Kraft did not.

  13. I don't know what Glazier reported a few days ago but if there is video of a ball boy doing a detour of the footballs into another room before bringing them onto the field , then it's significant. If the ball boy took them from the room they were in to the field then there is no issue. I really have no idea what you are trying to say with the above.

The media. They cant get their story straight. First it was 2 lbs pressure, now its closer to one. First it was a sting operation by the league, now its a ball boy. What if the ball boy leak came out last week, and then the media leaked it was a sting today. We would all be now talking about how its GOTTA be the sting, cause its fresh and hot news.

The ball boy story would be discarded like yesterdays news....

  14. So even if digital , couldn't it be the same case for that ? I really don't know .

If its digital, its a video file on a hard drive. You simply make a copy of the files, and away the NFL goes. You dont even need to come collect them, they can be sent by email if needed (not very practical, but its possible).

Its ~possible~ that they could of confiscated the hard drives, I would think that unlikely, but as always, I dont know.

  15. Is it possible that the NFL confiscated the video tapes and BB didn't have the opportunity to see what they would show ? I think you're not considering he's lied before and he really doesn't have anything to lose here by lying again. There is no way that he instructed the ball boy to deflate the balls. It can't be traced back to him.

    Let me ask you this.

I believe it was glazier that also "leaked" it was a sting by the NFL. How do you now reconcile that with his latest leak that the ball boy is a "person of interest".

    1 reporter, 2 sources, 2 different stories.

I would be shocked if the security "tapes" were actually tapes. This isnt your mama's spygate :)

  17. Why would a lone wolf , rogue ball boy, who is hired by the Patriots , do this on his own ? If he is rogue, why would he have 11 of the 12 balls under inflated the way Brady likes them, when Brady knows nothing, and said nothing to anyone ? Who is he Kreskin ? Why didn't he overinflate 11 out of the 12 balls ? I think we know why. This theory really stretches credibility and all common sense. Are we really to believe some poor, schmoe, ball boy acted alone ?

Um, I wasnt being sarcastic at all on that last part. I agree, if thats what happened, he was told to do it.

  18. So you feel this is total nonsense ? There is no proof that the balls were removed from that room ? Interesting. BTW... BB can say what he wants and not be held directly accountable unless he instructed for the balls to be deflated .. which I doubt very much. He has no great risk of making that statement as it's pretty tough o prove he knew it happened.

That , BTW, is not saying your team can get out of this by saying the ball boy did it on his own. Brady will probably do down and the punishment will be a team type thing.

I dont know if its nonsense or not. Its another "source" that says 3 things.

    1. They interviewed the ball boy (well, thats a shocker :) )

    2. They have a video of him making a detour (ok, that's pretty bad).

    3. They don't know if it means anything.

#3 is the most intriguing. Why would the source specifically include that information? (warning, I just got my tin foil hat back on....is it so they can say, well, it wasnt something important?)

and yep, if it was the ball boy in the bathroom with the needle, no way he acted alone.

  19. And the ball boy removing the balls from the room ? This sounds to be totally against protocol.

How much do you really think thee NFL and public are going to buy into ? If it looks like a duck , walks like a duck and goes... QUACK !!!!!!  One might assume it's a duck.

I would reply to that but I just sent my tin foil hat out for cleaning :)

If you look @ most of my previous posts, its mostly railed against the press. (They could of done it, I've said that many times).

So my response to this.. Both the league and the pats have the security vids. The first thing any reasonable person would of dialed up would be "lets follow the balls". Yet, BB was confident enough to stand at a presser and say what he did, and this leak didnt come out till 5 or 6 days after the league would of had the videos also.

    Something is quacked alright :)
