My comment was based on the perceived (media) view that the Colts are loading for a run at the Super Bowl while Luck is still under a favorable contract.
That window is narrow and closing....
If we're going to get there and continue to get there in the near future, then Grigson has to deliver. I'm not saying he's got to deliver a miracle -- we're picking 29th in each round. But he's at least got to deliver solid hits. A Werner-level pick is not going to cut it.
"But he's at least got to deliver solid hits." Yes sir! I agree 100%. The solid hits are at DT (of course), S, and OLB IMO. If they're not picked up I'm gonna be one unhappy Colts Fan. Time will tell even after the draft. So, I'm not going to "fully" evaluate until the season starts.

Yeah, SW1! "need to see ... perform blitz pick up against NFL LBs & premier pass rushers" ...While I appreciate the Big 10 support Stone, the Badgers aren't exactly known for creating game changing backs that transition well at the next level. Gordon isn't associated with blocking very well & I would need to see him perform blitz pick up against NFL LBs & premier pass rushers before I even think about drafting him. My answer right now on Melvin: No way in hades.
Besides with Ballard, Boom Herron, & Gore in our current rotation, INDY's sitting pretty good at that spot anyway IMO.
Two names : FRANK GORE

Dline
Any of Jordan Phillips, Eric Goldman, Arik Armstead
Just a quick piece of info ...
Arik Armstead : 6 foot 7 inches 292 pounds. Oregon.
Eddie Goldman : 6 foot 4 inches 320 pounds. Florida State

Nice info, Kevin! Like Chicago's suggestion of giving each offense a chance in OT. It's about time. That way, both the offenses AND defenses are on the field. Never did care for the opening drive in OT with a TD to end the game. Like this change if it's implemented.
-
Like the idea of moving the extra point back to the 15 yard line to make it more difficult.
-
I'm of the view we should find a RB in this draft in the 4th round.
I'd like to use our first 3 picks on defense and the OL.
But I agree, Grigson is pushing his chips into the center of the table. He's got to do well in this draft.
Don't worry, NewColtsFan, he will! Grigs is tough. He'll show it in the draft to back up the FAs thus far and to insert new ones to plug up the holes in the lines.

No it isn't.
I must take a "mea culpa" on that last sentence to you, Dustin. I meant what I said. However, I should've worded it differently. Sometimes people get their personal history of a topic tied into an expletive of negativity. I'm usually not that forward ... I.e. .. my last sentence to you. So, I'm apologizing to you. No one has contacted me or anything like that. I just needed to say that publicly for my own benefit and peace of mind.
-
No it isn't.
Well, we agree to disagree then. Heck, Dustin, we "all" are a contributing factor to the NFL by simply being fans. Limited degree of course. But a degree nonetheless. Fan-feedback is always used by the NFL all the time. Why shouldn't practice squads be? A very "IMPORTANT" degree IMO. They say, "practice makes perfect". You better believe it!
-
1. How is that on the contrary?
2. The practice squad is exactly where project players should be. 90% of practice squad players will never be meaningful contributes in the NFL anyway.
"90% of practice squad players will never be meaningful contributes in the NFL anyway."
Don't say that around "RUDY" Ruettiger! This is a head-scratcher to me. To say that practice squads is where project players should be might be all well and fine. To say they do not contribute meaningful to the NFL is quite a remarkable unsubstantiated pile of (insert your choice of negative term here) .... IMO!

Nice piece, RealityIsLuck! I do, however, think that the Colts are looking outward of the players you listed. DTs, Ss, and OLBs with more size and speed IMHO. You never know, though. Could prove to be correct on these three players listed in the late rounds.
-
I hear ya! They aren't French Canadian though, the use of u in words like colour and favour is due to British origin. It's a shame Sanders wasn't able to stay healthy, but I agree. He was an absolute monster
Gotcha! Must be that Cajun French heritage in me.

Give your top three "position picks" and select one with the 29th pick.
1. DT
2. S
3. OLB
I'll go with a DT. Hope Malcolm Brown is still there or Eddie Goldman. Shelton will be gone, but you never know.
-
Exactly. Right on the money. Heck, even the O-line is "better" with addition of Herremans. OLB, S, DT are the draft prospects for the Colts IMO. More moves to come as well before the season starts. Just to reiterate, TE is pretty well wrapped up with Allen & Fleener. Our TE production is the least of our worries on offense with Allen, Fleener and Doyle
on the roster. With the receiver roster looking pretty solid also, the O line and running
game is my only concern on that side of the ball.

Patriots and Steelers. Those will be the litmus tests for us.
D I T T O !
-
Yeah, spot on! But the thing that got me most was when "Philly" (don't write me gals!) Boy" Rivers flipped off all of us fans right after a playoff game in our own home! The Chargers, Steelers, and Patriots seem to get into the Colts players minds. Even when we have been evenly matched at times. Gotta get over that mentality and take it to them like a steamroller over a grape. (mentally speaking of course).
It's time to ... PUT THE HAMMER TO ALL THREE !
-
That feeling is reciprocated, brother!
Don't you mean, reciproUcated? Love those French Canadian superlatives, 21isSuperman. Btw ... Bob Sanders was an absolute BEAST of BEASTS. Super Bowl 41 hits were outrageous. The guy played out of his mind in every game. "SuperStud" in all aspects of the game by definition of "defense".
-
It was Kasparov vs deep blue but we get the jest!
I stand corrected! Loved Fischer's matches with Boris Spassky, though!
-
10 OLBs | 12 Ss | 9 DTs ... Very interesting, Kevin! Gonna be a query? I don't think so. May be the Colts select in that very order stated. Good piece of info. Thanks again.

I follow ya, JPFolks! Do you remember the Denver playoff game this year? It was the "defense" that mostly was credited to winning that game. Which is true. Don't get me wrong, Andrew Luck had a "pivital" role as well. Cincinnati game, too (defense + Luck)! "mediocre team to the AFC Championship". That's a tough way to describe it IMO. Yes, I know many games Andrew Luck was the key piece to all of those eleven victories. However, to say that the team "may" have been "mediocre" is just speculation. Probably correct. But speculation nonetheless .I do agree with you in that your assumption "may" have been sided on the play of Luck, though. In the NFL playoff games ... sometimes you never know.I would hope the "Logic Police" would realize the simple logic that we have Andrew Luck who took a very mediocre team to the AFC Championship. It was the very vocal opinion of all the media talking heads that the Colts had terrible personnel overall compared to the other playoff teams. They just had Luck elevating towards his prime. Take Luck away and replace him with any other QB from the past 3 drafts or any FA we could have signed and the Colts would have had losing records all 3 years. Of course the exception would have been had the Colts kept Manning (which we would have) but the Colts wouldn't have been able to keep most of the players Manning worked with and with his salary, it would have been impossible to offer the kind of money he did to all those so-so short term FA's.

Wow! I guess this small little paragraph was not received very well. (Although it is the truth) Yes, we have Andrew Luck. What was Irsay and Grigson supposed to do? Take RG3? Yeah, right! Doesn't fit with the organization's system. QB wise (pocket QB). RG3 before the pick was a "runner" in addition to his strong arm. Luck has every quality that this organization wants. Look at winning Super Bowl QBs and you'll find out pretty quick if that statement holds water or not as far as "pocket QBs" are concerned. The people in the Indianapolis fan base who discredit Ryan Grigson as a poor GM need to do a lot of professional football homework before receiving an "A" in NFL IQ. Do your research ... and you'll find that GMs that post over 10 wins and playoff appearances in their first several years isn't an accident. It's called, "doing a great job!" ... not to mention a Championship game as well.
⭐️ The Logic Police
People can disagree all they want. However, just because a potentially great QB lands into our laps DOES NOT mean that Ryan Grigson is doing a bad job. Quite the opposite IMHO. GMs get bad raps all over the NFL. Frankly, it disgusts me sometimes. Do you people "really" know how hard it is to run a professional sports team? Try it sometime mockingly and tell the truth. Not easy at all. And that was the only point I was "trying" to make.

Another simplistic idea would have the extra point kicked from a farther distance. If the success rate is 99.6% right now on EPs, lower the rate from whatever distance that could make it in essence a coin flip at 50%. That way, no major changes to the game the way it is played now except for making it harder to get that extra point.
thoughts ... ?
-
Yep. And when we hit big on a couple defensive players in the draft we will definitely be set.
Maybe not this year (although we certainly have a chance), but most definitely the one or two after. Like our strategies so far!
-
Another good piece, Kevin! Vontae Davis and the entire Colts' secondary will be a force creating that end goal to another World Championship for Indianapolis and ColtsNation! Hey, Vontae ... say hello to your brother Vernon for me.
The guy is/was a stud for the NFL fans around the country. San Francisco has always been my favorite team in the NFC next to the New Orleans Saints. (except for the Super Bowl of course!)

its good but stopping the run begins up front dont you think?
Watch the drafting the Colts do in April. Besides that, many off-season moves yet to be made before the 2015 opener.

Man, Kevin, the entire 2 paragraphs from Jim Irsay on "getting tougher" is EXACTLY what I needed to hear from the "Top Horse's" (pun "intended") mouth so to speak. Cannot tell you and the organization enough how GREAT that is to know as a fan. Great info! Thanks.
