  1. Yeah, but how many of those guys on that list were getting hit pretty regularly and that's why their bodies declined around 35. It's pretty well documented that Peyton is extremely good at avoiding the big hit. How many times have you seen him get blindsided?! My point is that Peyton is on another level of QBing in this new age of football, and after a year off I'm sure he's ready to knock the rust off...

...and yes, he'll be wearing the horseshoe whle he does it.

  2. This guy had only one season as a playcaller, I think he'll want to continue doing that. As a Colts fan that lives in MD, I have a wife that is a... (shudders) Ravens fan. I watched a lot of Ravens games this year and I distinctly remember picking him out on the sidelines a couple of times. He gets into the game, that's for certain. I have a feeling that whoever we choose as DC won't be calling the plays.

  3. I agree that Peyton deserves the chance to finish what he started. This is the house that Peyton built. If he's healthy enough to go next year, he's our QB. I've accepted the drafting of Luck or RGIII, but either could use the tutilage and example of Peyton Manning. 28 million...SO WHAT!!! New England pays Tom Brady that kind of contract AND they used their 3rd rounder on a QB in last years draft. With the way the rookie scale works this year, we shouldn't be paying much more than NE does at the QB position. We could cut some other contract weight by releasing Dallas Clark, Gary Brackett, Melvin Bullitt, and signing Dwight Freeney to a more cap friendly deal.

  4. After quite a bit of thought and research on the subject of who gets the gig as the Colts Head Coach, I believe Jim Tressel is the right man for the job. First off, the NCAA issue. I think way too much was made of a couple dumb college players trading memorabilia for tattoos. The likely story is that he found out it happened after the fact, swept it under the rug, and moved on to more pressing issues...

    ...like winning championships!

Face it, he didn't do anything even remotely close to what the Patriots pulled on the professional level. On the philosophy side, Tressel is known as a guy that is exceptional at developing skill positions (QB, RB, WR), his style of coaching is to keep games tight with tough defense (which has been missing here for some time now), and he's been quoted as saying that the punt is the most important play in the game, so you know he holds special teams play in high regard.

Ultimately, with the hiring of Tressel and a solid supporting staff of coordinators (Zimmer & Kromer hopefully), the return of Peyton (which is happening), and a youth injection via the draft, we'll be back to form in no time. Just read this, it may sway your opinion if you're against the hiring of Jim Tressel:

  5. I agree with this fully. Lots of the elite offenses have one of these type of weapons and I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas Clark gets the axe this off-season. If Peyton is staying put like I believe he is, I'm sure we'll get him someone that fits that mold. It's a copycat league they say.

  6. Well everyone and their brother says to trade with Cleveland because they are the team with the 2 first rounders that everyone assumes would want Luck...yet everything Holmgren has said, states that he wants to stick with McCoy.

The teams most likely to be trying to get our pick, would be Washington/Miami etc...teams who definitely need a new starter. Cleveland "may" want Luck, but everyone needs to stop assuming that all we have to do is call the Browns and they would jump on it.

Also, we dont have the #33 pick, we will have the #34 pick...hopefully Mark Barron is still there, but i doubt it...i would guess that either dallas will grab him, or new england will use one of their 2 first rounders on him.

Anyhow, i was all on board with trading the pick, but the more time i spent watching Luck's games...and the more i feel that Irsay definitely wants to draft the QB of the future, the more i'm absolutely ok with drafting Luck...i DO NOT want RGIII

There are 32 teams in the NFL. We own the 1st pick of each round. We have the 33rd pick.

  7. If we were to trade the pick, I think Cleveland would be the perfect trade partner. They pick at #4 and #22 in the 1st round. I'm quite sure we would have no problem getting those picks, plus some, in return for the rights to draft Luck. Then, take Claiborne, Kalil, or Blackmon with the 4th pick (whichever is available or whichever position is most needed), and the best available player with the #22 pick. Plus, we have the #33 pick. That's a lot of quality picks to enrich the roster. As long as Peyton is healthy and ready to turn that lazer, rocket arm loose on the league, we need to trade the pick and load up on young, talented playmakers.

  8. Personally, I don't see it happening. That's not to say it can't or won't, but I don't think it's likely to come to fruition. We're a bit light and under sized, and we lack the man cover corners necessary to run the 3-4 system as it's intended to be run. No matter what's said about it, Freeney and Mathis are NOT stand up type OLB's! They are pure speed rushers and lack the experience of dropping into pass coverage. Also, every interior D-lineman we have on the roster is built as an Under Tackle, so we would also be lacking in the MOST important part of running a 3-4; a true Nose Tackle that will control the Center and make teams use 2 linemen to block him. I just don't forsee this as feasible.

  9. 1st of all, anything "completely outside the realm of Colts football" would go somewhere other than the Colts football forum, ya think?

Secondly, yes, I agree. I'm always the last guy that calls shinanagins when refs make bad calls....but last night was horrible. They wiped points off the board with the 'ol inadvertent whistle and made several inexcusable calls, ALL of which went against the Lions. They took home-field advantage to an extreme.

To be honest, I don't really care to participate in other forums. There's a good group here, and not too many trolls afoot. I hope this didn't bother you too much.
