  1. This is our 3rd possession. It is 3rd and 2, Luck was sacked as he was forced to run. Smith had Houston locked up until he got punched in the face if you watch the entire play (I am old and not good at posting this info.

Luck still made a move to the outside and TY was breaking open to the sideline so the CB grabbed his shirt and pulled him back so Luck had no one to throw  and was caught as he tried to run the ball.

  2. You all need to go back and look at the game.  If you do you will see several pass plays where the KC DTs would grab Q's facemask and push his head back all of these are blatant penalties. As a result Luck could not step up in the pocket. This continuing illegal tactic destroyed our pass blocking. I would love to know why this was allowed.

  3. Individual awards certainly do not matter over team awards but this goes hand in hand. If we win this weekend that should make the MVP vote come down between Luck and Brees.  Mahones would still be the offensive player of the year but certainly could not be an MVP over luck.

  4. The truth of the matter is that they are going to move the ball and score some points. Our offense has to be better against their defense then their offense is against us.

  5. The PFF article is half right and half wrong which is why i do not like PFF. ALL tackles are important. If the ball carrier is not tackled he scores a TD. They are correct in that all players do have the same opportunity to make a tackle so "most" tackles does not make you the best player on the field unless you most tackles are way way greater then either the other players on the field or for your position.  The main priority of LBers in all most every defense is to make tackles. The D-Lines job is to cause disruption and eat up blockers. The job of the DB's is to stop pass receptions or to hold them for minimum yardage and help out with runs to the outside. The job of the SS is a hybrid in that SS play like LB's and therefore one should expect them to make a good number of tackles.  It is great if you FS allows zero long passes and makes zero tackles because the runner is being stopped near the LOS. Why I do not like PFF is that they are not taking into account the entire play. Lets say that the DE goes inside out of his gap and allows the RB to break outside. This prevents Leonard or Walker from making a tackle at or near the LOS. So now because of the DE's mistake Leonard has to run across the field and makes a tackle 10 yards down the field on a RB who was able to break outside. PFF would say that Leonard did not make a "quality" tackle when in fact he made a great tackle to prevent a longer run. In looking at yesterdays game Leonard made 13 tackles. Pro bowler McKinney made 9, Cunningham made 8, Walker made 6. So of all the linebackers on the field Leonard had the best day. We completely shut out Houston's run game. Since we had a big lead and we were playing the clock we played a soft cover 2, which meant that Leonard had to make a lot of tackles in space. In opposition we ran the ball alot so McKinney and Cunningham had more opportunities to make tackles at or near the LOS. (of course Q and company has some input in that). So looking a that LB stats Leonard was the best LBer on the field overall.

  6. Leonard had 13 Tackles today. The next closest player on either team had 9 tackles. So someone is trying to suggest that Leonard played poorly? Wow tough crowd. I understand he missed Miller on one play. ONE PLAY.

  7. Born in "57". I live in West Virginia but started following the Colts because all we got on TV was the Browns and I hated their uniforms. The Colts had a cool horseshoe on the side of their helmets and a "modern" passing game which made them the talk of the league. (In those days you only got the one "local game". Each week they had a highlight show in which they showed highlights of the previous weeks games so I would get to see 1 minute of Colt Highlights each week (I am still amazed that with Sunday Ticket I get to watch every Colts game).

Of course you also got to see the playoff games on TV. My first real memory is when all of the QB's got hurt and Tom Matte had to play QB. Think of Mack starting at QB this week. They played Green Bay who won on a last second field goal that replay showed was missed by at least 3 feet. Still mad about that game.

It's not difficult to determine what a player's assignment is on a given play, for the vast majority of plays. The more you watch a team play closely, the more obvious the assignments become. It's not rocket surgery.

We will just have to agree to disagree. I will give you an example just among football coaches. We had a blocking scheme that we called a POWER. In that scheme our Right Tackle was to block down on the first lineman to his left regardless of where that DT lined up even if two gaps away. We played a team that played there interior lineman in the A Gap and put an Inside backer over the RT but 5 yards off the line. Our Tackle and Guard blocked down. Our FB took on the LBer and we ran off tackle all day. Our OT played great. After the game our WR coach (who never learned our blocking schemes) told me that I needed to watch film on how badly our RT played because we was not blocking the LBer in front of him. The Coach was simply wrong. Off good line play has rules for the Offensive linemen. Those rules change based upon defensive alignment. If you do not know the rules that are being run you cannot tell if a lineman is meeting his goals. You would simply have to guess at the assignment to give a grade.

  9. PPF is simply guessing about assignments. You cannot issue a grade by guessing. Linemen do not just block the man in front of them. They have zero idea of what Luck is doing with the football most of the  time. Ryan got a bad grade for the Dallas game but in fact he played great. PPF has little value.
