  1. Caldwell was a puppet while he was here. I think those 2 years away from head coaching certainly helped him gain a better understanding of the game from a coordinator perspective, but I think the main difference between Caldwell's tenure here and what he's been able to do in Detroit is the coaching staff around him. He has 2 very talented coordinators on both sides of the ball, while also having the talent to execute his scheme. Polian didn't do a good job of acquiring talent his last few years here, which became glaringly obvious once Peyton got hurt and the coaches were put in a position to actually have to win without him. Poor situational awareness and a total lack of adjustments ultimately did him in here.

Caldwell is a good coordinator, but a lousy coach.   Even at Wake Forest he was not very good.   He's always had a problem running the ball.   He's not a smart clock manager or game manager.   As many coaches would be, he is good with great talent.

  2. I've got to believe that by now, you completely know that what the team's owner did and what the player did were NOT the same?

The team's owner has a problem with prescription pain meds.

The team's player went out and got drunk.

You really thing those two things are the same?

I think what Irsay did was way worse.    But Irsay owns the team and Rogers was an unnecessary part of the Colts team who was already riding on thin ice.  Rogers may have been cut soon without the DUI.

He was "legally drunk", but blowing those numbers, he wasn't really drunk.   Maybe a little tipsy.

  3.

*Luck has the highest deep accuracy% in the NFL (7 of 12 (1 drop) for 180 yards - 66.7%). Yet only 9.5% of his throws are deep (20th in the NFL).

I guess my definition of "deep" is different than the creator of these stats.

180 yards on 7 receptions is only an average of 25.7 yards per.    So given the fact that some were more than 25 yards, some would have been less than 25 yards.    Is a 20 yard pass considered a "deep" pass?

Still, 66.7% on 20 yard passes is pretty impressive.

  4. Denver has not looked very impressive at all in their two wins. They easily could have, and should have lost to the Colts. They nearly coughed up a loss to an un impressive KC team.

How do you figure they should have lost against the Colts.   They were up big and let off the gas.

  5. Manning looked confused and completely out of synch in the second half last night. Denver will not have nearly as potent of an offense this year. Their defense will only be marginally better. If they make it to the Super Bowl again, the result will be the same, no matter which NFC team they play.

Well, they are 2-0.    Great start.   I think they will be fine.

  6. I don't think so. Irsay knew it would not have been fair to Peyton or Andrew to have them both at the same time, so even if Peyton took a paycut, Irsay would have still made the decision for the long term which was the right one.

Although Luck is just in his 3rd year, looking how far the team that has exceeded expectations has come along, that was the right long term move. Plus, if we let go of the others and kept Peyton behind that sorry O-line for Luck's first 2 years, Peyton might be out of this league by now, I feel.

I'm not sure about that.   I thought the Colts should have traded the top pick.   There were teams willing to give up their entire draft and a first in the next year for Luck.   It could have been similar to the Hershal walker trade Dallas made which brought them a few championships.  Manning took crappy Colts teams to 12 or 13 wins consistently, I can only imagine if they had double the picks in each round to build around him for the following 3-4 years.

But the choice they made wasn't bad with Luck either.

  7.

then Matt Schaub is the best QB because he has the most passing yards a few years back.

and Tim Jennings is the best CB because he has the most INTs.

I never said pat was the best LB.   I disagreed when Dustin said he was bad.

  8. LOL Myles, new poster. I still haven't decided if you're a troll or not.

I bet you look at stats only for a player, and think this is Madden, and it instantly makes a player good or bad. Tackle numbers mean nothing for a LB, because they are expected to make the plurality of tackles on a football team.

By your logic if tackles are a good stat for a LB...

then Matt Schaub is the best QB because he has the most passing yards a few years back.

and Tim Jennings is the best CB because he has the most INTs.

    Case closed.

You've read me wrong.  I rarely analyze stats.   I'm more of an eye test guy.   I like watching the game much more than reading the stats.   I liked what I seen in Pat when he was healthy, that's why I think he was a good LB.

  9. This is getting nowhere, I'm gonna bow out.

    Welcome to the forum.

I'm fine with that.   We obviously disagree.   I think Pat was good when healthy and you think he was well below average when healthy.

I guess this is a good example of people seeing the same thing differently.

    Thanks for the welcome.

  10. https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/strawman

I didn't say that. Good tackling is a must for a good LB (and Angerer is a bad tackler anyway; he would continually whiff, take bad angles, or just get hit and let the RB get another 3 yards.) . Pure tackle numbers don't mean anything. Pat Angerer was, is, and will continue to be a bad player.

Your response to tackles being important in football - "They have no correlation to good LB play"

    You are wrong.

Also Pat was a good LB when healthy.   He was constantly in the right place to make the tackles.  You may remember several "whiffed" tackles because he was always near the ball carrier.

Can someone tell me if this guy is a troll on this board?   I'm new.

  11. Setting the tacklea argument aside, anybody who's watched Pat Angerer and think's he's good doewn't know what they are watching.

Anyone who's watched football and didn't think good tackling corresponds to a good football player doesn't know football.

  12. Ughhh, let's use so common sense here. Most of those are good-great players. Good-great players play for a long time. LBers (and DBs) that play for a long-time get a lot of tackles.

    This isn't hard.

It's good to see you admit you were wrong.   Tackles DO have a correlation to good LB play.

  13. Nice article, but completely meaningless.

    Here's a top 20 list for you.

So you still stick by your comment that tackles "have no correlation to good LB play"?

This list proves you wrong.    It shows that tackles have a very strong correlation to good LB play.

  14. Nope. They have no correlation to good LB play.

    You really believe that?

So you wouldn't consider all these guys above average NFL players?

The tackle leaders from last year.

  15. not saying it isnt. im just not a fan of overpopulating a state with teams just because its a big market

But Texas is huge.     There is allot of distance between Houston, Dallas and San Antonio.

  16. Nah, Angerer is pretty bad. Always has been. Small, slow, imnjury prone, can't cover, drag down tackler, ect... the real people with the lack of football knowledge are the knes who thinks he was good because he had a lot of tackles.

    Cause tackles are not important.

  17. This doesn't bother me at all.   With Richardson (who was going to get allot of carries anyway), Bradshaw, Herran, Meggit and Tipton on the roster, the Colts should be fine.

I think the RB position is one position where you can plug and play more than any other.

But we are counting on Richardson proving his worth.    The Colts will run him plenty in order to find out if cutting him is the next step.

  18. It's something to do where you get to watch and many times talk to your favorite players.    Hang out with other fans and have a good time.    What do you get out of a round of golf?, a walk in the park?, a baseball game in the middle of the season?, a minor league baseball game?    If you enjoy it, then it is all good.
