See you make some sense, unlike other people. Some seem to think Nicks was a failure based on his output. I say they had unreasonable expectations. I think it's a good signing also, but don't think he will put up similar numbers to Nicks if he played as a 6th option on the Colts offense. I'm definitely in favor of bringing back Nicks! Id like to see Reggie hang them up. His game has fallen off alot!
Remember, Nicks was not the #6 option all year. If that was the case, his numbers are very good for that role. He struggled early and moved down the depth chart. Then moved up due to injuries.
I think (assuming Wayne retires) that Nicks and Carter could make the team. I think I would choose Carter over Nicks right now. It's a tough choice though.
-
Is Nicks gonna show up all season or just in playoffs ? That is his Mo and its lived out here as well.
That's a good question, but I think by signing Hicks, we would have some WR depth and be able to use our draft picks differently.
-
The CFL doesn't even compare to the NFL. He was playing against guys that, for the most part, couldn't make an NFL practice squad. Sorry, those numbers mean very little to me. Let's wait to see if he can translate it into the NFL before we crown him with anything.
I think the CFL can compare to the NFL in the same way college compares to the NFL. In fact, the CFL has better quality players than college. I assume you were fine drafting Hilton out of Florida International (a mid major conference school). I don't think the Colts are signing Carter expecting him to reproduce the 75 catches and 1000 yards he had in the CFL. But he is young and has potential.
-
Odds are in favor of him letting people down vs. him meeting the ridiculously high expectations people on this forum, have for him. Nicks really wasn't that bad... I've asked multiple people many times to please show me somebody as a 5th and sometimes 6th option in an offense to put up bigger numbers. NOBODY HAS!!! People see him as a #1 or #2 as he was in NY, and still believe he should put up those numbers. It's unreal expectations, that can't be met.
I haven't read where many people had high expectations for him. 25-35 receptions as a 3rd or 4th WR would be good. I think it would be a great signing. Low risk/high reward. Couple good seasons in the CFL. Still young. Great size. I'd take him over Nicks right now just based on the size that the Colts need. I wouldn't mind seeing Nicks back though.
I like this mostly because it may save a draft pick. Colts may decide to draft a WR in a later round now.

His salary is guarenteed. The colts save nothing by cutting him
Oh really. Damn, I stand corrected. So the benefit is only the roster spot? Boy, we got screwed on this one.
-
Yet everyone here wanted to give Irsay the benefit of the doubt when he was caught driving around like common street trash with a sack full of cash and drugs.......
Hey, if it comes out that something was up with all/most of their balls and ours were just fine......okay, I'll be ticked off. But I'm not gonna jump on the Patriots-hate bandwagon based off of an incident that took place 10 years ago.
I didn't realize Irsay was given a pass. Not by me. Also with his history of drug use, I don't think he deserved "the benefit of the doubt".
-
Because this is one of the silliest accusations I've ever heard in my life.
Spygate was what? 10 years ago?
Same owner, GM and head coach.
That doesn't mean they are guilty, but it does warrant removal of the "benefit of the doubt".

The Colts can free up $3,184,062 by cutting Trent. He has the 9th biggest salary on the team.
Explain the benefit of keeping him on the team again? We need free agents and 3 million is allot of cap space.

You're grabbing snippets of cursory speculative info from media reports. Nothing is confirmed as far as I know beyond one ball being taken out, and we don't even know if that ball was suspect or just taken out for testing because that's when word got to the refs.
The Patriots deserve some benefit of the doubt here, because it strikes me as insanely stupid to try such a thing knowing that refs and the opposing team will touch their balls numerous times through the game (get your mind out of the gutter).
I find the very idea absolutely ridiculous, and I think Tom Brady summed it up best when he laughed and laughed when asked about the deflated balls during a radio interview yesterday.
Not sure why they deserve the benefit of the doubt. They have cheated before. If anything, they don't deserve the benefit of the doubt.
Belichick will do anything to win. I wish we had a coach like that. But you need to know that if you get caught, you deserve the penalty.
-
They keep saying Belichick is a genius. Not much so if he thought he needed to deflate balls in order to beat this Colts team.
-
We have decent players. Chuck and Manusky are responsible for the scheme failure.
I don't think these "decent" players will get us to the next level. We need size on the defensive side.
-
Ok, so playing GM a bit. In the draft, if a good one is available in round 1 or 2, I would take a RB. We have to be able to pound the ball against NE. GB doesn't have a great OLine. Neither does NE. But they run when they need to. I like Boom but I don't know that he is going to be that type of back. Secondly, we need another pass rusher right now. If we are going to make a free agent splash, Orakpo would be good I think. And then through the draft, I hope we can get some big, mobile inside LBs and a safety to develop.
No way would I use a 1st or 2nd round pick on a RB. That is the easiest position to find someone out of nowhere. Can't find big defensive linemen everywhere.
-
Need BIG defensive linemen.
-
Richardson...I wouldn't cut him. Seriously for what??? He doesnt cough the ball up anymore. Id keep him
He doesn't have speed.
He doesn't have power.
He makes more than most players on the team.
-
imo trent will be with us next year, and will do good as our o-line improves on run blocking
He makes too much money for what he provides. They should "cut" their losses.
-
Have we not been asking for this since 1998.
Yep. We have to keep asking.
-
Size on the D line. Every year it is the same. You can run against the Colts. Manning used to score enough that teams would abandon the run. Luck has been doing that somewhat this year too.

I must understand? I may catch crap about what Jim Irsay says? I truly have no idea where you view the world from. Any one....and I mean anyone who feels slighted in anyway by someone they follow, believe in, support, etc......has the choice to refuse to follow, believe, support, etc....at any time. But to continue to be attached and then complain about it is your own choice, but don't expect others to agree with you and don't try to group others in with you. If Mr. Irsay bothered me to the level that many on here seem to feel, I would end my support. I certainly wont make you listen to how disappointed I am because my experience is mine, and yours is yours.
I don't like to give advice, because I cant know what your world is like, but I can say that life is short and I prefer to align myself and my feelings with those who uplift me, not those who bring me down. Good luck.
I'm not sure what you are talking about. Do you not think that posting stuff on Twitter or Facebook can be used against you? If you have kids, I hope you educate them so that they know that once it is out there, it can be criticized and used against you.
-
To include everyone on our owns thoughts is odd. Feel free to say "I".
Example is.....I don't feel Jim needs to keep a low profile......which is exactly what I do feel.
Fair enough.
But he and those who agree with his methods must understand that putting stuff out there (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram) means you may catch crap about it. By putting stuff out for all to see, you are really agreeing to be criticized for it.
I tell my teenage daughter the same thing.
-
Well, I don't like the bad teammates type......because I think they can bring a team down. But I don't care about misdemeanors like weed and alcohol related incidents. To me it's just entertainment.
I'm with you there. Now multiple offenses will start turning me off.
Like when Cincy brought Chris Henry back as their 4th WR. What the heck are you thinking. You've already gone through a bunch of crap with the guy. And you bring him back as a 4th WR? High risk, low reward.
Philly and Vick. Everyone knows that Vick has always been an injury prone headcase that cannot play a whole season. Factor in his dog abuse stuff and that signing was high risk, low reward. It's not worth it in most cases. There are alternatives. It'll be the same if a team signs Ray Rice. We all seen is production drop off significantly. You know he has issues. You know that RB's can be found under rugs in the NFL. That is a high risk, low reward move.
-
I like the team because they win. Unless it's a serious crime I really don't care what they do off the field.
Really? You and I are much different on this.
I usually dislike teams that sign anyone as long as they think they could play ball. Cincy, Dallas, Philly come to mind.
-
We all know how doesn't like Trent here, so my next question is, who likes Boom?
I think Boom is alright. Not sure I'd feel great going into a season with him the main RB. He's better than Trent and has a higher upside.
He is also making 1/10 of the money Trent is making.
-
he can only get better with more reps
But he didn't.
-
insane .. Lol your the one who thinks Cleveland has a bad line .. They have two probowlers ..
You misread my post. I said that I liked the trade because I thought maybe it was just because Cleveland had a bad line being the reason he sucked so bad. I was wrong. It wasn't Clevelands line. It was Trent.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. That's what you said you want the Colts to do with him. Keep running his 3 YPC until he can get a big run. In his top 3 carry games this season, he didn't get better as the game went on.

I doubt it. I'm sure his decision is Indy so that he has the opportunity to catch lots of balls and earn a bigger salary.
