  1. Walter's Mock:

1st Round: QB Andrew Luck, Stanford

2nd Round: WR Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina

3rd Round: NT Alameda Ta'amu, Washington

4th Round: TE Orson Charles, Georgia

5th Round: CB Coty Sensabaugh, Clemson

    Charlie Campbell's Mock:

1st Round: QB Andrew Luck, Stanford

2nd Round: TE Coby Fleener, Stanford

3rd Round: CB Trumaine Johnson, Montana

4th Round: NT Nicholas Jean-Baptiste, Baylor

5th Round: WR Ryan Broyles, Oklahoma

So, which one would you rather take?

  2. I know pollian is gone and all that but had POllian came out of the draft like the eagles came out of the 06 draft people would be killing him still ( like stampedeblue)...excuse me but that draft sucks donkey's balls...actually of those 4 drafts(06-09) the only players that have been valuable have been desean jackson, maclin, celek, maybe omar gaither but thats it.

they have taken 8 LB (and chris gocong is a LB not a DE) and they are still looking for someone to pair with demeco ryans who they traded for lol

It's not necessarily the players still there that intrigued me.

It's players like Bunkley, Bradley, Avant, Gocong, Abiamiri, Mays, Kolb...not necessarily game changers and they won't steal the headlines, but they're decent depth guys and players like that can develop into good trade fodder.

  3. So what he's 33, he's just signed for three years. Which gives us...... 3 years to sign his replacement. Why rush the move? He's still probowl caliber. Collie isn't always hurt, look at last year. He played all 16 games. Avery I agree is a slight gamble, but his knee has healed and the injury is somewhat old now, and he has recovered. But we'll see on this one.

I don't follow your Gonzo is gone argument. He didn't catch ONE catch all season. And Garcon's replacement is Avery. We're pretty set, which gives space for our biggest needs = TE + CB.

And WR is still a need, I agree. But how does it beat the need of TE and CB? I see us drafting WR in later rounds, for two reasons. 1) the WR class is DEEP this year, and 2) we have bigger needs, plus I don't see a WR being BPA until later rounds.

At no point did I say it's a bigger need than TE or CB. Andy said it wasn't a need at all, which just isn't true, is it?

So we're happy going in with

    Wayne

    Collie

    Avery

    White

    Cosby

    Okay then.

  4. I would rather have a Luck/Fleener combo, since we already have Reggie at the WR. Luck and Fleener have a lot of chemistry with each other and Fleener has a lot of talent, not to mention that WR is not a big need, maybe not even a need at all.

How is WR not a need at all? Wayne is 33, Collie is always injured, Avery has barely seen the field over the last few years, Gonzo + Garcon have gone, White didn't play at all in 2011...in what world/universe do we not need a wide receiver?!

  5. quite honestly Ill take him in the second over Fleener cause its a bigger need, and we can get Charles later, I like Fleener but I get the feeling some are thinking he will be the next Gronkowski or something, I seem him as a Jacob Tamme type can catch and run some and be a red zone threat but not like a Gronkowski or Gonzales

I think he's a Greg Olsen type player, not close to a Gronkowski type talent. I like him at #34 because of the chemistry with Luck and the fact it's not a particularly strong TE class.

Wouldn't be bothered if we got Green or Egnew in the 4th or even Evan Rodriguez later on.

  6. CB: Josh Robinson, Janoris Jenkins, Alfonzo Dennard (Round 2), Casey Hayward, Jayron Hosley, Trumaine Johnson, Leonard Johnson (Round 3), Dwight Bentley, Josh Norman, Chase Minnifield, Shaun Prater (Round 4), Asa Jackson (Round 5), Justin Bethel (Round 7)

NT: Mike Martin (Round 3), Alameda Ta'amu (Round 3), Josh Chapman (Round 4), Hebron Fangupo (Round 5), Nicholas Jean-Baptiste (Round 5), Akiem Hicks (Round 6), Chigbo Anunoby (Round 7/UDFA)

TE: Coby Fleener (Round 2), Dwayne Allen, Orson Charles (Round 3), Ladarius Green (Round 4), Michael Egnew (Round 4), James Hanna (Round 6), Rhett Ellison (Round 6), David Paulson (Round 7)

WR: Rueben Randle, Alshon Jeffrey, Mohamed Sanu (Round 2), Marvin Jones, Brian Quick, Chris Givens (Round 3), Marvin McNutt, Tommy Streeter, AJ Jenkins (Round 4), Dwight Jones, Tim Benford, Greg Childs (Round 5), DeVier Posey, Jeff Fuller, Jermaine Kearse (Round 6/7)

Very rough guide but which combinations do you like?

  7. 1. QB Andrew Luck, Stanford

Not much needs to be said here, but Luck is the natural heir to Peyton's throne.

    2. TE Coby Fleener, Stanford

Over the past few days I've been thinking there's no chance of us getting Fleener. But I worked on my full mock and can't see him in the first round. Giants have Beckum returning alongside new signing Martellus Bennett, whilst WR Stephen Hill could fall into the 49ers' lap. Fleener isn't going to be like a Gronkowski to me, but he'll be a good end zone threat and should have decent enough chemistry with Luck.

    3. NT Alameda Ta'amu, Washington

Again, been working on the full mock and I have him falling to us at #65. Whilst I'm not a huge Ta'amu fan, he is definitely the 2nd best NT prospect. Mike Martin and Josh Chapman can play NT and DE which makes them versatile for us so could also see these picks for us, but at #65 Ta'amu should be pretty good value.

    4. CB Josh Norman, Coastal Carolina/CB Chase Minnifield, Virginia

I doubt Minnifield falls this far but his stock is falling due to injury so you never know. Anyway, Josh Norman has impressed scouts lately and I think the Colts attended the Coastal Carolina Pro Day. 6ft, 33 vertical jump, he's got a lot of good physical attributes. Not necessarily blessed with speed but can still keep up with most receivers.

    5. WR Dwight Jones, North Carolina

Some fall from grace really here for Jones. He's had a couple off field troubles with has antagonised some of the UNC staff, but he ran a 4.46 40 yard dash and is a big, physical receiver. With the UNC WR coach now at Colts I could see this happening in some way. Makes body catches too often but hopefully can learn from Reggie Wayne.

5 Compensation. TE Evan Rodriguez, Temple/TE James Hanna, Oklahoma

Another TE is needed as Eldridge is almost always injured and not very good. Rodriguez could be the pass catching FB Luck likes but maybe Gronkowski is seen for that role. If so, Hanna impressed at the combine and would be decent backup to Fleener.

6 Compensation. OG Lonnie Edwards, Texas Tech

Really powerful guy who can be effective at pass and run blocking. Could be a steal at this point but I'm happy with him as depth for now. Reitz did an okay job last year and could improve with the whole offseason to work on his game.

    7. CB Justin Bethel, Presbyterian College

Did pretty well at the combine but we have to come out of this draft with 2 Cornerbacks. One in the mid-rounds and one late sounds good to me.

7 (From Jets). ILB Carmen Messina, New Mexico

Studied this guy a bit and I really like him. Small schooler so will go later on, but always appears to be around the ball, never stops going. Tough tackler and should provide decent depth.

    7. Compensation. WR Griff Whalen, Stanford

Another guy who should have decent chemistry with Luck. Might go undrafted but might as well use Mr. Irrelevant pick on him.

QB: Andrew Luck, Drew Stanton, Trevor Vittatoe

HB: Donald Brown, Delone Carter, Darren Evans

    FB: Chris Gronkowski, Ryan Mahaffey

WR: Reggie Wayne, Dwight Jones, Austin Collie, Donnie Avery, Blair White, Quan Cosby

TE: Coby Fleener, James Hanna/Evan Rodriguez, Brody Eldridge

    LT: Anthony Castonzo, Jeff Linkenbach

    LG: Joe Reitz, Lonnie Edwards

    C: Samson Satele, A.Q. Shipley

    RG: Ben Ijalana, Mike McGlynn

    RT: Winston Justice, Mike Tepper

    DE: Cory Redding, Ricardo Mathews

    NT: Alameda Ta'amu, Antonio Johnson

    DE: Fili Moala, Drake Nevis

OLB: Dwight Freeney, Mario Addison, Justin Hickman

ILB: Pat Angerer, A.J. Edds, Mario Harvey

    ILB: Kavell Conner, Carmen Messina

OLB: Robert Mathis, Jerry Hughes, Brandon Peguese

CB: Jerraud Powers, Chris Rucker, Terrence Johnson, Brandon King

CB: Josh Norman, Kevin Thomas, Justin Bethel, Mike Holmes

    FS: Antoine Bethea, David Caldwell

    SS: Tom Zbikowski, Joe Lefeged

  8. I have Hill falling to the 49ers and Giants taking Doug Martin from Boise State. Travis Beckum is now expected to be fit for the Giants, which means they don't need a TE high.

I'm still hopeful Fleener will fall to us. Remember last year, Tight End Kyle Rudolph was marked as a lock to the Falcons in the first round? He ended up at pick #43.
