  1. Just some coaching connections ideas in terms of free agency - who our coaches have previously worked with that are hitting the market.

Chuck Pagano (former Ravens DC, Secondary coach)

    CB Cary Williams

    DE/LB Paul Kruger

    LB Dannell Ellerbe

    Bruce Arians (former Steelers OC)

    RB Rashard Mendenhall

    WR Mike Wallace

Harold Goodwin (Former Steelers OL QC)

    C Doug Legursky

    OG Ramon Foster

    OT Max Starks

    Gary Emanuel (former Purdue DC)

    DT Kawann Short (Draft)

    OLB Shaun Phillips

    OLB Anthony Spencer

Jeff FitzGerald (former Ravens, Bengals LB coach)

    LB Rey Maualuga

    LB Manny Lawson

    LB Keith Rivers

    DE/LB Michael Johnson

    DE/LB Antwan Barnes

Marwan Maalouf (former Browns special quality control coach)

    WR Josh Cribbs

Greg Manusky (former 49ers and Chargers DC)

    LB Manny Lawson

    DE/LB Antwan Barnes

    DE/LB Shaun Phillips

    CB Antoine Cason

    NT Aubrayo Franklin

    NT Isaac Sopoaga

    DT/DE Vaughn Martin

    DT/DE Ricky Jean Francois

    S Dashon Goldson

Charlie Williams (former UNC WR coach)

    WR Brandon Tate

Not necessarily saying we should or will sign any of these guys, but interesting to see who our coaches have worked with that are FA's. Particularly interesting seeing Antwan Barnes, Shaun Phillips and Manny Lawson appear more than once.

  2. These choice may not be to everyone's taste and they're certainly not the most glamorous, but they're based on scheme fit, relationship with coaches and $.

    FREE AGENCY

Mike Wallace, WR, Steelers - may come at a higher price than what his 2012 play deserves, but Wallace is a legit deep threat receiver who is familiar with Arians/the offense.

Louis Vasquez, OG, Chargers - huge guy who fits our blocking scheme. Manusky will have faced this guy in San Diego so maybe he'll bang the table for him. Only 25 too.

Antwan Barnes, OLB, Chargers - with Freeney bound to leave, we need to fill the defense will players who can play in a 3-4, and Barnes can. Had 11 sacks in Manusky's D last year. Also been with Philadelphia and Baltimore (whilst Grigson and Pagano were there, respectively)

Mike Jenkins, CB, Cowboys - openly said he wants to play man coverage, and has success in such a scheme. We targeted him in the summer and could do again.

    DRAFT

Trade down from 21-24 to 28-32, pick up a third rounder (see Cincy/Pats trade from 2012 for a vague reference).

First Round: Barrett Jones, OG/C, Alabama - another guy who fits our blocking scheme well. Impeccable character, versatile and should be a solid NFL starter. Not sure his athleticism will blow people away, but he's proven he can pass and run block.

Third Round: Sean Porter, OLB, Texas A&M - could've been a first/second rounder had he stayed at 3-4 OLB. Now playing in a 4-3, his productivity has slipped, as has his draft stock. He's a speedy guy off the edge who can get after the QB.

Third Round (via trade): Leon McFadden, CB, San Diego State - corner who excels in man coverage, solid tackler and can also be a ballhawk.

Fourth Round: Josh Boyd, DT, Mississippi State - big guy who's played DE and NT for Miss State. Just a depth guy really, because I think Moala, Johnson and Mathews are FA's in 2013?

Late Round Comp pick (tba) - Dustin Hopkins, K, FSU - Vinatieri is on his last legs (no pun intended), so drafting his successor might just come this year.
  3. I disagree with

Logan-Not sure if his production and weight of 287lbs does him any favors, good pass rusher from the interior no doubt but does not have the numbers to show for it

Ertz-Fleener wasn't a 1st round pick last year and no Tight End in this upcoming draft is as good as Fleener was in college

Short-May get into the 1st, been consistent and productive But could easily slip to the 2nd

Ansah-Production does not say 1st round pick, and hasn't been producing long

    Jordan-same as Ansah

Sylvester Willaims-I dont see more then 2 Nose Tackles going in the 1st

    Edit:Double Post

Dion Jordan has 12.5 sacks in 25 games. Not bad at all. As I said, needs to be more consistent and add more moves, but I can't understand why you'd rather have an injured Brandon Jenkins.

  4. Cool story. Lets look at the 2011 draft where New England traded their 28th pick to New Orleans for their 2nd rounder that year and a first rounder in 2012.

I think that was because New Orleans traded up from the bottom of the 2nd round. And the Patriots' had a late first rounder. Say we're picking 15th/16th (for argument's sake), it's unlikely anybody will be moving up from the 2nd round for that pick.

  5. Even if we get Chapman this year and he is successful I would like to see us get another big body on the line. Redding can't be trusted he has been to prone to injury. After how we have been gashed in the run game we still need help on the line which has been the case for years. Ideally I would like us to trade back and collect a few picks and draft a guard at the end of round one and hopefully pick up a 2nd rounder.

The Rams traded down from 6 to 14 and picked up a 2nd. I think we're going to win too many games to get such a deal.

  6. Would love to have Justin Hunter but he will go in the first and we need help on D more than a WR. Hunters teammate Patterson might be able to be had in the third and I believe will be a great WR in the NFL.

What about Hunter's old teammate, Da'Rick Rogers? The off-field issues might put some people off. Top talent though.

  7. I'll have a bash.

1st Round: Chance Warmack, G, Alabama - need to strengthen the interior line, top guard prospect and as good as, if not better than DeCastro was last year.

3rd Round: Brennan Williams, OT, North Carolina - Would have been a first rounder, no doubt, but got injured recently. Bit of a risk, but if he can overcome his injury (torn labrum) then he could be a steal. Really strong in the run game, decent in pass protection, athletic enough to be effective in pulling despite being 6'7"...pairing him with Warmack on the right side should improve our rushing attack.

4th Round: Shawn Williams, SAF, Georgia - I really don't know if he'll be here...but it would be nice to get a physical, hard hitting safety, 'cause, let's be honest, Zbikowski is nothing more than a stop gap.

6th Round: Dustin Hopkins, K, Florida State- I'd imagine plenty of you won't be happy with this, but Vinatieri will be 40 by the time the draft arrives and he hasn't been as good as usual this year. There's a chance he won't be here next year, so drafting a kicker is something we have to think about.

Now, I don't really know the salary cap that well - would we be able to afford Mike Wallace, Andy Levitre, Cliff Avril and Mike Jenkins or not? I know we've got a bit of money to play with but could do with some help from that aspect.

  8. I'd love to be able to trade back, but I don't think we'll be able to. Picking up a 2nd could get us a guy like Corey Lemonier, Dion Jordan, Michael Buchanan etc. I watched FSU v Clemson the other week, liked the two ends for FSU; Werner is obviously tipped to go Top 15, but Cornelius Carradine looked pretty good too. I'm not sure if he's played an OLB in a 3-4 though? Seemed strict 4-3 DE to me, but hey ho.

  9. I'll take a rough go.

Trade down to the middle of the first round, picking up a 2nd in the process - like the Rams did with Dallas.

First round take OG Chance Warmack, Alabama

Second round go with OLB Dion Jordan/Corey Lemonier/Michael Buchanan.

Third round I'd take DE Margus Hunt/Jesse Williams or S Bacarri Rambo...

Of course, we could flip them around somewhat. But I think if we can engineer a trade down, our third 3 picks need to be G/OLB/DE or S.

Also fancy us to strengthen the O-Line in Free Agency...also think we'll make a play for Mendenhall. After his injury, think Pittsburgh will let him go and Arians might be up for being re-united with him.

  10. Holy Cow. I was worried about our OL this year but everyone kept saying it was an overstatement. What gives? Please list the worst offensive lines in the NFL. "1" being the worst and list on down from there the bottom 5.

Pretty sure we've all been petrified of our offensive line all summer.
