Our main needs are G and Center

(This is just assuming we can't spend much in FA retaining some key components that we would otherwise lose).

I would move Reitz to starting RG, draft a RT first round and a C by round 3.  That leaves us room to get a good pass rusher in round 2.

Or we can Keep Reitz at RT (not preferably), let Goode work for another year, and draft ILB round 1 RG round 2 C round 3.  This way would address all of our needs also.

However I believe we can let go Johnson, Cole, Toler, Walden, (plus a few other smaller cap guys) and perhaps have plenty of money to be aggressive in FA.

  2. Art Jones should restructure his contract or get released as well.  He makes too much money to only play as little as he has in 2 seasons.  In the same category as Donald Thomas, Vick Ballard, and Ahmad Bradshaw now!  However, he probably makes more money than all of them combined.  I'm surprised all of them were given a third chance.  Thomas was cut during TC Ballard made it, but cut very early on, and Bradshaw got his 3rd chance and it ended the same way.  That being said SOMETHING has to change with Art...

  3. I'm a fan of all of the coaching changes.  Wish Grigson got the boot, but I am convinced they will be on the same page from here on out.  Chuck didn't have to fight for his job, and especially didn't have to backup Grigson, but that type of action speaks volume to a relationship, within the entire organization.

All of the staffing changes I've seen and the experience (resumes) really gives me high hopes.  Coaching has been criticized for a long time, and I think Chuck shouldered the blame unfairly.  With better staff support, making these players better, and bringing in a few more pieces to the puzzle, while letting weak links or high salary/underperformers go, I believe this team is back at the top of the AFC next year.  If Peyton goes, I feel the Broncos drop a few notches.  They may lose some key players anyway, so if it's not this season, then next year.  Furthermore, Brady isn't too far behind Peyton from retiring.  I just don't see any other powerhouses waiting in line afterwards.  Steelers will be our only big competition.  Sure the Raven's Chiefs, Chargers, Bengals will still be relevant, but I see a sizable talent gap, if we can progress and hold on to our core.

As for the individual coaches what was the best pickup, I almost think it's to close to call.  Given the circumstances of all of our weaknesses (OL, pass rush, health of players), they're ALL important.  Philben with his experience is HUGE, Monachino's history with developing pro bowl caliber LB's is HUGE, Krein's award for strength and conditioning is HUGE.  Shoot even Williams and Schottenheimer are big hires.  I wouldn't put their name in with the other 3 but I'm sure they will be an upgrade to what we previously had.  I'm already excited for what next season has in store, and it's not even past the Super Bowl.  Bring on the 2016-2017 year already!!

So he needs to be basically the best QB of all time before he gets market value... ?

Yes!! LOL Just kidding.  I had huge expectations this year and you can say what you want about the OL, he still didn't come close to his capabilities (even without injuries).  With the weapons he has, and his skillset, there is no reason he doesn't throw for around 5000 yards (give or take a couple hundred yards) and at least 40 TD's (IF) the OL plays well.  I do think he could be in the conversation of the best all time, and in order to do so this is what he will need to produce in his prime years.  Unless you consider Luck a tier 2 QB and behind Brady Roethlisberger P. Manning Brees Newton Rodgers Wilson etc.  and in the same group as (Ryan, E. Manning, Flacco, Rivers, etc.)

This was statistically his worst season.  Taking away the Denver game, he didn't impress me once.  Was bthat like his only 300 yard game?  Previous year he only had a small handful of games he didn't throw for 300 yards.  He had way too many multiple INT games.  Youre right though, he probably deserves 23 or 24 but I believe he should take a cut to play his part in building the roster.  They have several needs this offseason, and milking every penny you can get doesn't help the team get there.  They were talking 25 Million last year, and I disagreed but he certainly doesn't deserve that after this season.  I think 22-23 is fair...  Once he wins a SB, then perhaps renegotiate if he's fixed the things that needed fixed.

  5. Offer Luck 5 year 110 Mil. and lower guarantees.  Call me crazy but I was extremely underwhelmed by his performance this season.  Sure the OL is terrible as we know, and he only played half the season, but he made countless mistakes that he should know better by know.  He needs to improve dramatically with his decision making (cutting his INT in half and throwing AT LEAST mid 40 TD's EVERY year, since we have so many talented WR's).  I think this is very doable if we get 2 solid new starting lineman.  His play MUST improve if were going to win ANY SB.  He has the talent, but the line should play better, allowing him to have more time in the pocket, and a better run game.

When it comes to Fleener, I think he should be resigned instead of Allen, because DA can't stay healthy.  Doyle is underrated and he can replace Allen's blocking abilities.  I don't know what Fleener is worth, but IMO he barely cracks the top 10 TE's in the league.  That mainly has to do with the offense having so many weapons.  So his salary should reflect the market average near that.

  6. I think we should draft RT in the 1st round.  There are I believe 3-4 that are projected in the 1st, so we can definitely get a decent one.  Thomas will be too expensive.  I would rather pay a good pass rusher that money in FA.  We can move Reitz back to G and take care of that problem as well.  We would still need to draft a C by round 3 but that's very doable as well!  IMO this is the easiest most cost efficient way of handling our 2 weakest links (and perhaps the effective)!

I think the whole did Pagano have authority to hire his own staff thing is over blown.  Arians made it known it was Chuck who got him here when the bulk of the rest of the staff was hired.  It's more logical to assume that if Chuck got to hire the OC that year he got to hire the other coaches he wanted that year.

maybe something strange happened with Pep but I don't think that's true over the bulk of the coaching staff.

I think Pagano hired people originally and Grigson was able to manage staff and personnel to some extent.  I firmly believe Grigson tried to keep Luck comfortable and happy by hiring Pep and bringing in some of these Stanford guys (Fleener and Whalen in Particular).  I doubt that all of the defense guys from Stanford has anything to do with that part of the equation but Grigson must have some preference with the Stanford Cardinals because there is certainly a lot of them that has played on the Colts since we've drafted Luck.

Same thing with Pagano though.  He has ties within Baltimore's organization.  I think it is a good thing if they're honest, hardworking, and reputable players or coaches that are brought in.  It definitely raises the trust factor and chemistry.

  8. I may be wrong, but I believe with both of them staying, and the one goes, both go tie down will force them to get along.  I think Grigson overstepped boundaries, and tried doing the best thing in his mind rather the best for the team.  Again, I may be wrong, but I see this as a turning point for this franchise.  Regardless, who was going to be GM or HC, Colts ARE going to protect Luck from here on out.  They finally understand a (very talented QB) means nothing without a solid OL.  Not only did he get hurt, but they never had time to throw the ball downfield and make plays with the playmakers they have.

IMO, finding an elite pass rusher should be #1 priority this season, but I wouldn't bat an eye to go "all-in" with OL talent this offseason.  I'm talking C, RG, & RT.  I do think we should move Reitz to G draft a T in the first and perhaps a C in the 3rd.  Throw big money at somebody who fits our 3-4 scheme as a pass rusher in FA, then maybe drafting another in the 2nd.  I know there are other needs, but it's a sticky situation we have been in for far too long.  With fixing these 2 areas (assuming most players stay healthy), and staff working TOGETHER, I don't see why this team doesn't have the same expectations as they did this season, and be able to reach it.

The only reason this is such a big surprise is because the media concocted a new reality that was based on rumor, innuendo and unnamed sources.  Say it enough times, read it enough times,  and there you have your classic perception becoming reality.  Makes you wonder if we really went to the moon or not!

You had me until the very end.  Then I took the mouse off the like button lol

DVOA is the most important stat points and yards given up is misleading. as I said a number of times this was the best defense we've had in a long time. their a big reason we won 8 games. they kept us in games when our offense couldnt move the ball at all. this was also a very improved run defense course the stats wont show it, but if you actually watched the games, youll see how better they were this year

Yep!!  However, some people will argue because they only see the numbers above.  Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Manusky, but he really hasn't had much to work with, so I'm fine either way.

  11. Sounding like the same old stuff we've heard around the media the whole season.  NOBODY really knows what's going on.  I thought it was almost set in stone the news Pagano will not be brought back would've made headlines before noon today.  However, a press conference was scheduled for mid afternoon, now there is no conference.  Leads me to believe Irsay is coming to his senses, most people want Pagano around, and he has plenty of time to think about the situation.  Not pulling the trigger quite yet, or perhaps having a change of heart and wanting Chuck to stay along with the fans/players.

  12. It sounds like the fans and players want Chuck back, and they're not shying away from voicing their opinion.  All I want is Grigson gone.  Maybe Irsay is thinking about this decision more and it wasn't "automatic" like everyone was thinking.  I do believe there are a few better HC options on the table, but I do like Chuck.  I'm torn in between, because I just don't know if Pagano is the best coach for this team.  Good mentor/friend, definitely!  Chuck has done some great things and will continue to wherever he ends up, but to win multiple SB's IDK if he can do it.

My guess is we will know more about Grigsons status next Monday, or whenever Irsay/Grigson have a presser about Chuck. But I could be wrong. Next week will be very interesting...

My thought process is that with Chuck's contract expiring the FO just won't say make any announcements (if asked during a presser they will just say we are evaluating the situation and will make a decision shortly (bypass the question).  They will just simply hire a new coach.  With Grigson, I'm starting to think Irsay will give him 1 more chance because I believe his contract has 1 more year.  Unless Irsay brings in a coach that will be a "Jack of all trades".  Even if Grigson get's fired, it probably wont be until after the NFL season is officially over to see what other GM's get fired and available.

The Colts FO definitely like to keep everything hush hush so everybody is playing the guessing game.  I may be wrong but perhaps they don't like drama or confrontation.  They had their lips sealed when asked about the issues with Grigson and Pagano.  Pagano and Irsay were ambiguous about Luck's injuries this season both times.

However, the sooner we find out is the better.  I for one, am ready for the offseason (sounds crazy), but I just want to see changes happen.  Not just talking heads...

Exactly, we can't afford for him to screw up another offseason and leave Luck unprotected.  It would mean several things, one the new HC gets screwed over, two Luck possibly gets injured and three Luck doesn't resign because the front office can't commit to keeping him protected.

There's no doubt in my mind that the Colts build the OL now.  Even if Grigson stays we WILL have a better line.  I think Irsay would have somebody's head on a stick (kidding) if we EVER had a repeat of this season.  Plus, I bet Luck get's signed long term in the offseason.

Hope he made enough in the signing bonus to pay his deductible

haha good point.  With the Affordable Care Act I'm sure their plan is not cheap.  I can only imagine if any of the players refused medical insurance and had to pay the penalty (what is it like 6% of their income)?

    It's the thought that counts.:)

Yeah, I suppose!  However it's my daughter's 1st Colts game and she doesn't even get to see Andrew Luck...  We have a group of 8 and there is 3 newbie's altogether.  I'm sure it will be fun anyways.

Luck won't even be required to seriously take the practice field until the new offensive system is installed.  Just throw and keep himself in shape until the OC situation gets resolved.

Irsay and or Grigs probably made that decision several weeks ago.

Sad thing is they probably had a good idea at the time of the injury he might not be back.  2-6 weeks they called for?  Who was high when they made that assumption?  Then Irsay tweeting he would be back week 16 or definitely 17.  NOPE, jokes on you :)  Have a fun offseason fans.

  18. Pagano's contract is up, so there is no need to fire him.  IDK if any announcement will be made or not, but I think if Grigson stays or not will be dependent on who the next HC is.  I would hope the next coach will be signed at least 2 weeks after the SB (hopefully before).  That way they can determine who will fill in the rest of the coaching staff positions and if Grigson will stay afloat.  I'm pretty confident Irsay will be the one hiring the coach this time around though.

unlike a lot of people, I don't think Grigson has been the total cluster**** that he's being portrayed as. Now I'm not totally defending him, but he's brought in a lot of good players, especially on the DL this year. Therer have been some well publicized misses, and free agent misses. But the thing about the the free agent misses is that the Colts had a lot of money they had to spend and he spent it. But those contracts given out were also team friendly and easy to get out of if those players didn't pan out. Now if he struck out on this past draft I'd say he'd be gone, but this past draft looks really good...Dosett has lots of potential, Parry is a keeper, Anderson is a stud in the making, Geathers has show flashers as a major thumper (just needs to work on coverage more). Goode still needs some work though. So I really don't have much against keeping Grigson around for a couple years.

That is true!  Didn't ever really think of it that way.  He had money he had to spend so he spent it.  He never really wasted anything...  However, it still doesn't excuse the fact that he's struck out more than he hit (and this isn't baseball lol).  He has always done a pretty good job with the cap though IMO.

Overall this past draft was acceptable, but I refuse to give him a pass, due to the severity of the OL issue, getting a WR who wasn't going to make a huge impact (and got injured), either way, which in turn, made Luck exposed and injured.  I will still give Smith some time, as CB's usually take time to develop, but not too keen on him either.  Anderson, Parry, Geathers were all GREAT value picks, which kind of saved grace for him.  Ignoring the Luck pick, I just don't understand how you can screw up so many #1 picks and still have a job?

I really don't want to keep him around, but believe it or not there are worse GM's out there.  I look at Grigson as average, but we can do better.  Whatever the case is, if we do keep him, I really hope he isn't involved like he was in the past.  We need a HC that runs the show, who actually knows what he is doing.  Personally, I like Pagano, but he has his downfalls also.  He (nor anybody) can be 100% effective if they're being micro managed, and I feel that's what the last 2 seasons were.

Worse case scenario, we have a new HC and Grigson is here 1 more year, but if that's the case, I hope he is thrown to the wolves.  Fight or Die!!  He either succeeds or is gone, no in between!  It would be very unfortunate though if he screws up another offseason and gets fired after next season, which causes conflict within the organization and the new HC.  Further wasting Luck's prime her in Indy...  But now I'm playing the what if game, so I will just stop lol

    RANT OVER!!
