  1. targets don't matter, it's percentage of target per pass attempt that shows how much a Qb was looking his way and he was only targeted on 16.6% of the pass attempt, a huge decline from the previous two games as I showed.

I base my opinion on Gronk's blocking from, you know, watching him block not by what Chris Collinsworth was saying about his blocking.  And he was not a dominating blocker, he took good angles and shielded well but if the defender was more than 210lbs he didn't push anyone around.

I think you need to actually look at how many times Gronk went out for a pass. It was not the Pats intent to pass which is why everyone's targets per pass attempt was down for the game. Not just him.

Perhaps we watched two different games regarding his blocking. I saw him make block after block all game. Gray was typically not touched until he hit the third level of the defense.

  2. You are look at at the wrong stat.  The targets tend to support Brown's assertion that Brdy didn't look his way when Brown was covering him.  Gronk was only targeted on 16.6% of the passes.  Against Denver he was targeted 19% of the time and against Chicago he was targeted over 25% of the pass plays.

Additionally Gronk was not pancaking anyone, they left him in the block and he did a good job of getting an angle and shielding but he was not a physical blocker for them.

No one was targeted much. Brady only had 11 attempts in the second half. Gronk had the second most targets with 5 behind Edelman with 8. That should tell you just how much the Pats ran the ball. Gronk was blocking most of the time. Not sure what else there is to say. He is widely regarded for his blocking and it showed all night.

  3. Well twist it how you want it. Gronk didn't have a huge receiving day.

Twist what? He didn't go out for passes. That was not the plan. He had the second most targets at 5, only Edelman had more with 8. Gray ran 38 times which is the most the Patriots have ever run the ball in 20 years. Brady only attempted 11 passes with 9 completions in the second half and one was to Gronk for a TD.

  4. Gronk's stat line: 4 Receptions, 71 yards (26 of which came on the scoring play). That's not a man-handling at all.

He had 149 yards and 3 TD's against Chicago, and 105 yards and a TD against Denver.

Lots of uninformed posts in here.

You left out that he was only targeted 5 times which means he caught a pass on 80 percent of the passes that Brady threw his way including the TD play where he just ran rough shod over our entire defense. I mean come on. I can't believe this guy thinks he had a good game when Gronk was pancaking us all day in the run game and when he did go out for a pass, he converted them.

  5. ...call 38 running plays against us like the Pats did?

I understand why the Titans, Jags and Giants didn't - they're crappy teams so it wouldn't have mattered anyway, but Houston, Cincinnati and Baltimore have all won a good amount of games this year and they all have good running backs.

Why doesn't every team just line up and punch us in the mouth?

We got up early on those teams. They had to pass to stay in the game.

  6. I think you'd agree that clearly New England saw something on tape that made them think they could be very successful running the ball against us.

They ran 6-OL formations on more than 42% of their plays.   They had a plan.   And they likely exceeded their wildest expectations!

You can argue that we haven't had a bad night against the run up until last night,  but we've flirted with trouble during the year...   whether it was against Philly, or Baltimore,  or Houston,  or Pittsburgh.     New England saw something on tape that told them they could have success and WOW, were they were right!

When you have on your calendar that the New England game is the biggest and most important game of the regular season and the franchise sure seemed to treat it that way and then you come out and lay a spectacular egg,   I don't just chalk it up to having a bad night.

I think we got exposed.    Exposed enough that our future opponents are sure going to be playing this video and the Pittsburgh video on an endless loop.

I don't think we can argue we're an elite AFC team anymore.    We haven't beaten anyone of substance.    We've beaten teams that could be called good (Cincy and Baltimore)  or fair (Houston there)  or worse (NYG, J'Ville, Tenn)....    we've got little to hang our hat on.

We're at the top of the crowd of good teams.   But we're not in the class of New England or Denver or Pittsburgh.    I'm not even sure we're in the group with a much improved KC team.

I don't think last night was an off night.    I fear it was much worse.....    and I don't think I'm being a prisoner of the moment.

I'm not saying we can't make a deep run in the playoffs.    I just think it's much less likely now....

These are pretty much my thoughts as well. In my view, a bad game would imply that we made mistakes. We didn't. We got maybe Brady's worst half of football since the KC game and it didn't matter whatsoever. We were manhandled on both sides of the ball. Games are always won in the trenches and we failed miserably on both sides.

I was willing to chalk Pitt up to more of a bad game given we did mistakes and also lost our best corner but Sunday's game gave me far less hope that this team can even compete with the big boys much less beat them.

  7.

haha this is great rivalry. I'm not sure but Gronk was use more in blocking than in passing. Brown can't even tackle the guy down but I admire his attitude. Definitely have high motor. I'm really hoping the Colts face the Patriots in the playoffs. Revenge serve with cherry on top.   http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000430071/article/sergio-brown-on-gronk-i-put-straps-on-that-boy

What rivalry? We have yet to beat them in the Luck era ....

  8. Probably not, didn't say he was. You never know what Roger Goodell thinks half of the time.

You watch a lot of New England games?

    Doubt he even gets fined.

Yes. I watch all the games on Sunday. I have the red zone.

  9. The game being over had zero to do with what Gronk did so what is your point?

Him being ejected would not have effected the outcome of the game at that point which is probably why he waited until then to do it.

  10. I never said they had creative blocking schemes. I said they had good blocking schemes.

And the point is that we've seen all this stuff already. We usually play better. The Pats didn't do anything special. They just did it really well, and we were sloppy up front and tackled poorly.

Between this game and the Pitt game I am worried about our defense. What do you see as fixable? Was it more coaching last night or just unable to match up up front? We never stopped a thing with the run and with Pitt it was an aerial attack.

  11. D doesn't stand for dirty sir. It was a dirty play. Not saying he's a dirty player. He just has the strutting, preening, posturing, hairy, sweaty, alpha male, look at me with my white sunglasses and backwards Black Red Sox hat attitude. He's the kind of guy that thinks he's that cat's butt, but he's really the guy everyone rolls their eyes at. He probably uses the word "bro" a lot too. I don't like that type of guy in real life.

He's a really good player he just needs to mature. He needs to be more Jerry Rice and less Michael Irvin.

Ok, so you don't like his personality but that hardly makes him a bad guy. I didn't like the play but he was flagged and I have seen so much worse than one guy shoving another guy. I think had the camera man not been there, he may not have even gotten the flag.

I think his attitude is why the Patriots and their fans like him so much. I prefer the Reggie Wayne's of the world myself but different strokes for different folks.

  12. Sweetsurrender, you know Corgi is correct on this one ^. It's a dirty move and if it happened the other way around, it would prove how hypocritical Pats fans are.

What does this have to do with Pats or Colts fans? I think we are all just a bit butt hurt and looking for something to gripe about. I didn't like the play and was happy he was flagged but beyond that? What exactly? His head on a platter? It is football.

  13. D would be the more appropriate letter. You can decipher that however you'd like. He was flagged and still doesn't get that it was a stupid/pointless thing to do. I don't think Gronk has the mental capacity to unlearn his natural tendencies.

What are you talking about? He has never done anything like that before that I know of. He is goofy not a dirty player. You are acting like he is Suh or something. Did it really bother you that much? He was flagged you know and may also get fined.

  14. Gronk was a punk long before that play.  And Brown may be a punk as well.

I know, there is no evidence that would make you change your preconceived ideas.  That is pretty typical of Patriots fans.  All I can say is watch the replay.  He has Brown engaged, when the whistle blows is when he drives him, not out of bounds but towards a piece of equipment and then picks him up and slams him down.  He has about 80lbs and quite a bit of strength on Brown, he could have done that at any point.

Like I said Gronk is a chicken ***t little punk but the incident was handled correctly on the field a 15 yard penalty, and if he gets fined for it, then like Gopats said, it would be money well spent.  I am more disappointed that a Colt player let himself be bullied like that any animosity towards Gronk for doing it.

Bullied? Try dumb. Gronk outweighs him by quite a bit.

  15. That's not really a leg to stand on.

No, any mature level headed man would not have done the same. It takes a special kind of scumbag to use physical retaliation. You know how you shut that guy up? With your actions on the field. Physical retaliation just makes you look lame and childish.

What did you want the refs/league to do exactly? He was rightfully flagged for the play as it was dirty. Should they have Gronk wear a scarlet letter G for goon?

  16. The Texans will be going away.

I can't see them beating the Colts at Lucas Oil and they will struggle with the Bengals and Ravens.

Indy are favourites in every remaining game other than Dallas on the road.

I know football isn't played on paper, but there is very little chance of the Texans winning the South.

Right now our defense really concerns me. If a practice squad RB ran rough shod over us then what is Foster going to do? And Mallett appears to be an upgrade over Fitz. I do think we are in good position but I am not taking anything for granted especially after last night.

  17. There was one play where Hilton was knocked to the ground as he was running a post 20 yards down field that was not called and then Toler got called for a ticky tack penalty later when the receiver ran into him but that was all I saw from the TV broadcast.

Meh, the refs are not going to call everything but honestly our lines looked like college up against the Pats. Lots of work to do still. This is not the game to talk about officiating. We were plainly whooped.
