  1. Perhaps it seemed obvious now but I remember going into the game thinking it would be close. But the number one D almost always beat the number O but still I thought Manning would have a much better showing which would help Denver keep it close. I also didn't trust the Seattle O but they were a huge difference as Harvin and Wilson had great games.

  2. And this brings us back to a discussion we had at the start of the playoffs about how good Denver actually was. I posted this in that thread:

The Broncos played 7 games against teams above .500. Their record in those games? 4-3.

They are 9-0 against teams .500 or below...as they should be.

The only problem is that there are no sub .500 teams in the playoffs.

I don't think anyone is surprised that Denver lost...but the fact that they really looked THAT bad raises some questions on if they really were as good as everyone thought in the first place.

Good points. I had always thought all along that if they played in the NFC this year, especially the west division they lose in the first round or maybe don't even make the playoffs. They had a terrible defense all year that at times played well as a unit but overall was not playoff caliber and their offense as is the case with Manning teams is one that can be easily defensed with pressure by the front four and hits on the receivers to upset their timing.

  3. Brady has been more successful, no doubt, than Peyton in the postseason.

My top 5 would be Montana, Unitas, Elway, Brady and Manning still. Elway took weaker teams to the SBs, much weaker than what Brady and Peyton have put on their shoulders when you considered the talent disparity then between AFC and NFC then, and made plays with his arm and legs in critical moments in the playoffs (he still probably has a better arm than Peyton now).

Brett Favre makes Peyton's INTs look like chump change. He is still top 10 like Marino and Bradshaw. Bradshaw, like Montana, had a clear advantage in the playoffs with loaded teams, just in a different decade. But Montana had way better regular season numbers which is why he gets the clear advantage and it definitely counts against Bradshaw in that aspect.

This is where I struggle. Putting Manning with the other multiple ring winners. I think he is top 10 but not top 5. I think Bradshaw has to be ahead of him. I would have him and Favre at 6 and 7. And again this is based on his career not his talent. As I think he and Marino are tops in terms of passing talent.

  4. I think the same thing happened to Brady in 2007. A voter from GB voted for Favre just out of spite towards the Pats. Brady got 49 out of 50 as well. It stinks but let's face it all voters have a bias every year. I don't think Manning should have got as many votes as he did last year over AP who had a historic season on a terrible team with a terrible QB. In the end AP won which is what is important anyways. The winner of the MVP is all that matters.

Does anyone know how someone gets a vote for MVP?

  5. I am not ruling Manning out yet. Next year when he plays NFC west he will have possessed experience on their toughness and I bet Broncos will learn a lot from the lost game.

Again the score was humiliating but the gap may be smaller than expected.

History is not kind to SB losers. I think Manning will be fine but not sure about his team. Last year they knew they should have beaten the Ravens but this year it was a beat down. Right now the Seattle and Niners are a lot better than any team in the AFC. But I am interested to see how this off-season goes as the Pats will get healthy and could add another weapon for Brady and the Broncs will have a ton of FAs so will have to see how they re-tool. And of course the Hawks are going to have to sign some of their young guys to bigger contracts. Will be interested to see what the Colts do too as I don't think they are that far from giving the Broncos and Pats a run for their money.

  6. Bledsoe to Brady  the hit that changed history .

I remember thinking good Bledsoe is out  ..

Brady has done what Manning was supposed to do had the Colts been able to pay him & build a defense .

The 18 versus 12 debate is over IMO . Brady almost had a perfect season & more  playoff success plus  multiple SB rings  ,

Homerism aside both QB's are great , Brady is a overachiever with all things equal in the regular season both are at the top of there game . The only thing that seperates the 2 is SB wins  & UGGs .

I agree with this. Brady has been more successful. Not sure that really can be argued anymore.

I still really have no idea where to rank Manning. I heard someone say yesterday that if he had a room full of the best QBs to ever play the game, he would have Brady, Montana and Bradshaw on one side of the room and Favre, Marino and Manning on the other side. Not sure if I agree with that but that may be the best way to think about it as of right now.

  7. Welker is not a game changer. He moves the sticks. He seemed like the only one who could take a hit last night and keep on going. Still his best post-season play is taking Aqib Talib out of the AFCCG but he played well last night overall I thought.

  8. Irsay is the clear winner tonight. Like I said, a Seattle win is gold to him. This loss will not propel him past Brady , Montana, or Unitas. Manning is a great guy , but it's going to be hard to come off a one sided loss like this one so late in his career.

I don't think a win would have propelled him either as those Qbs have better post-season resumes. That being said, the nature of this loss is tough. It will take some time to digest and put into perspective. It also puts him back below .500 which is tough as well.
