  1. Jskinnz, there are certain people on this board that like to jabber, and you will never be able to reach them with logic.

In regards to RGIII, i am one of these guys who believe that RGIII will be a fantastic NFL QB.

Luck is clearly a safer pick.

BUT........If i was the GM, and Cleveland offered the 2 first round picks and their 2nd round pick....... And JoeThomas

AND.......peyton was healthy.... I'd make the trade.

  2. I may be in a minority but.......

    1) CBs are a huge risk to take so early. This defense is still built to be a tampa 2 defense.

If we change to an attacking 3-4 then maybe...... BUT........ If you think about it, we are 2-3 good players

For completing a viable defense for Tampa 2.

We are 6-8 players away from In this defense if we moved to a 3-4.

We do need an upgrade opposite of a healthy Powers, but a superstar CB is not the biggest need.

I would hugely doubt that we take a CB early.

    2) I have this gut feel that Peyton will be released. He really cant be traded. There is presecdent, with Farve,

And other aging high caliber QBs being released. Hate that PM might be gone, but he cant play forever.

This team is aging at many spots........ Tough this year to start rebuilding, much tougher later

  3. Unless you get an absolutely amazing deal you have to take Luck.

    An amazing deal?

First........ Manning must be proven to be 100 percent. Not 95%

He must be able to make any and all the throws at the same velocity as before

Second........ Manning MUST Give a commitment to play a minimum of 4 more years.

Third.........Cleveland is the logical partner to trade with... BUT 2 first round picks isnt nearly

    Enough.

For the pick I would ask

    1) Joe Thomas ..... (this guy is a mile ahead of our current OT)

    2) Both first round picks

    3) A conditional pick for 2013. (if Luck plays 50% or more, a first round pick)

We could move one of our current rookie OTs to Guard to replace Diem, and move the other to RT

This would solidify our OL for many years to come.

We would STILL draft Luck in this fantasy world, and would only pull the trade if RGIII

(or Blackmon) is still available at 4

This is probably not going to happen, but If Manning can play, this makes some sense.

But understand....... Fans in fantasy land, is sort of like two fleas argueing over which one owns the dog they sit on.

  4. Im ready for that backlash, but more important, im ready for Andrew to take control of this team. Gonna be a shaky couple of seasons (ala 1998's 3-13), but we are gonna be right back in the thick of things. next 10 years after a 1 or 2 rough ones is gonna be fantastic.

getting my #12 jersey printed the first week in May.

    I agree.

I think we are due for another tough year as we rebuild this team.

In the long run, with the right GM, QB, HC, are going to go back to being a contender each year

  5. I cant see the future, anything could happen

But, there is a reason that 99.9 percent of the paid draft "experts" are saying that we will take Luck

If you are the GM, do you want to be the guy that passed on Michael Jordan?

Who knows if he will be that good, but there are many scouts that tout him as one of the best in awhile.

You have to get that guy on your team.

I guess i have my personal doubts if Manning will be 100 percent.

He is 36 in March....... If manning were 28 you would have to pass

  6. Unless we get a Hershall Walker type trade, there is NO WAY we shouldnt take Luck.

I dont see anyone offering that.

Any pick is a risk. Luck is no exception...... But..... You have to roll the dice.

He is an intelligent, positive leader, he is mobile, he has a quick release, he is extremely accurate, he has the size,

He has a great grasp of a pro style offense.

    Everything seems to fit.

He did have some average WRs..... I dont know their speed, but they didnt scare anyone.

Give him some time to throw, give him the deep weapon...... He will probably be that top level QB

    That everyone is looking for.

I see Luck being the pick, and playing for 15 years

  7. Who knows if Foles will be a great NFL QB?

    Its about the odds.

It's like picking a promising stock

Some perform brilliantly, some dissapoint (I buy stocks high and seem to sell them low :ashamed: )

I have seen writers and scouts call Luck "the nearest thing to a can't miss prospect in many years"

I personally like Foles, and watched him play this last year.

He does many things well, but that slower delivery that you can get by with in College, will get you sacked or you will miss the split second of being open in the NFL.

The odds of getting a franchise QB seem to be much higher with the pick of Luck, then the pick of Foles

You have to go with the odds.... for my 2 cents (if its worth even that) and give your team the best chance to

    draft a franchise QB.

The way the league is going, you will have trouble winning it all without that top flight QB

  8. Colts fan first and always. I'm surprised at the positive responses here, but of course there will be the negatives.

This is a business. Every business comes down to $$$$$. Its really hard to pay a guy $28 million when you have no idea if he will ever play again, and even if he does how well he'll play. If you take that chance and fail, this team is ruined financial for the next few years. Some say we owe it to Peyton... What? The money? Hes rich! Our respect? Hes got it. He'll go down as one of the best QBs of all time, and I'm sure one day he'll have his number and name hanging in the Ring of Honor. Heck, we could even rename it to the Peyton Manning Ring of Honor! But does that mean we should make dumb business decisions? NO. Some of the greats ended their careers with other teams (Montana to make room for Young & Favre to make room for Rodgers come to mind) because that was what was best for their team.

Also, for the person that wants to jump on Luck for every mistake, if thats the direction we go, calm down. Once upon a time, we drafted a QB from Tennessee named Peyton Manning. In his first year we went 3-13 again! He also led the league in interceptions with 28 (compare that to his 26 TDs). That turned out pretty well right? Rookie QBs will make mistakes no matter who it is. Its part of the learning process! You have to understand that its about the long term prospect of this team being competitive (and a playoff contender) for the next 10+ years, not necessarily about winning it all next year. Luck gives you a future, and at best (without injury) Peyton maybe has 3-4 years left.

You might not have the chance to draft a guy with this kind of talent again any time soon. You have to do it. Peyton Manning is the casualty of that decision.

No matter what happens, Colts fans will always be thankful to Peyton for what he brought to this team (the wins, the class, a superbowl championship, & Lucas Oil Stadium). Its not personal, otherwise he'd be a COLT for life.

Personally, I hope he decides to hang it up, and goes into coaching (maybe new QB coach). He'd be a fantastic mentor to a young QB like Luck. Although I doubt that will happen.

    Well said
  9. As many news agencies have reported, and can be seen by the wide opinions on this board, the Colts do have a tough decsion to make.

I think we will see some of the most stringent testing ever seen on a player, on Manning, right before the 28 million is paid.

Can he make the deep throws like before?

Will the ball have the same velocity?

A deep ball thrown with just a tiny bit less velocity is picked off.

It seems like he is coming around on his "short" game, according to the players he threw to.

The accurate deep ball is harder

Hopefully he can master that too.

    We'll see..................

  10. I will start out by saying that i like Irsay. He is clearly better than his dad.

He is a known to be a devout christian man, which is certainly something I strive to be.

I hope that as he has learned a bit since he was before solely involved in player decisions

    Some of his decisions were

To trade a first round pick, pro bowlers Andre Rison, and Chris Hinton for the pick for Jeff George

To trade 2 first round picks for Fredd Young

    C. Bennet for Eric Dickerson

    Many poor draft choices

These choices clobbered the franchise for a few years

I do think it was time for the Polians to go......

The ego for father and son seemed to be growing..........

Glad for the change........ But i hope we do bring in a good GM

  11. Tressel should have been forthcoming to the NCAA.

He should have notified them of his knowledge of the infraction.

    He did not.

The guy is a proven winner, and should be considered.

My first choice is Cowher...... I dont think that will happen.

Almost everyone else someone wants is a retread......

Fisher? Great guy...... But other than a 3 year period, he produced poor to mediocre teams.

    We need a consistent winner

I would give Tressel the chance to see what he could do.

  12. I also believe that we will draft Andrew Luck with the first pick. This contributes to my reasoning as well.

The only way Luck gets better is to play. He will be the QB of the future.

Sitting him, will only delay his progress.

    Again...... I hope im wrong.

  13. I am one of the biggest fans of Peyton Manning out there.

I have never seen someone turn a franchise around, and keep it competitive

    For so very long.

He is a hall of famer for certain.

But...... I personally dont expect him back. (even though i wished it werent so)

    There are 2 problems.

    1) Peyton has had his 3rd surgery in a little over a year. On Sept 8th when he had the most recent surgery, he opted for the surgery that would speed up the healing process. It was quoted by several sources that he would be back in 6-8 weeks. Another source said he would be playing in 8-12 weeks.

It has now been 17 weeks.

He reportedly will probably fail a physical this week. After 2 other surgeries, that were completed that also failed, it appears from the surface, that this last one is not on track, and may also be a failure.

With NFL QBs a significant drop in velocity can change a great QB to an average QB or worse.

I remember watching Bert Jones go from a great player to an average player, after losing that velocity.

(i realize that a rotater cuff surgery is different than what Peyton had, but both surguries may impact velocity of the football)

90 percent healthy doesnt cut it in the NFL for a QB, nor should you pay that much money for what may now be an average NFL QB.

    2) This team has huge holes and aging vets. I know we dont approach the league like Dan Snyder with

FA's, but 28 million would go a long way to rebuilding our team.

I hope i am wrong, but unless Peyton restructures, and makes an amazing recovery, I don't see him here next year.

  14. Assumes no trades:

Round 1 - Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

Round 2 - Mark Barron, SS, Alabama

Round 3 - Joe Adams, WR, Arkansas

Round 4 - Casey Hayward, CB, Vanderbilt

Round 5 - Kendall Reyes, DT, Connecticut

Round 6 - Antoine McClain, OG, Clemson

Round 7 - Derek Moye, WR, Penn State

    I like it.

I believe this defense needs that big time SS to be successful

Add a CB in FA and we would be good to go
