  1. We may agree to disagree.

We havnt had a Guard that could actually move a DT out of the way on this team since Ron Solt.

I think the OTs will come around...... But we are TOAST with what we have in the middle.

With so many holes on this team....... You pick your poison..... Do you try to at least get the offense or the defense

    To a viable solution.

To me, because our future Is around our new, learning QB, you get aggressive in protecting and building that

    side of the ball first.

    But... Either way....

It will be interesting to start the rebuilding process.

  2. By boring I assume you mean the big uglies in the trenches. In order for the 3-4 to work a big tough NT is the biggest team need right now though there are a lot of holes to fill. The WR position this year is deep and we may be able to get a starter in the 3rd or 4th round. I prefer Josh Robinson at CB in round 2 but if a great NT is there we could not pass him up.

It will be interesting to see where the top DTs end up in the draft.

I aggree that looking at this team, to move to a 3-4, the biggest hole is at NT.

I just dont see a true gamechanging NT available with pick 2.

  3. What's borng? You want the Colts to go after a popular player just because he's popular and has a little bit of talent. That's one of the stupidest things they could do. Pick the best CB or WR. Somethign that fills a big need.

    You didnt read my post

The "boring" choice is actually the RIGHT choice, because unless we ge some beef on the OL from FA

Our new QB is going to get flattened

I say best Guard availalable early in the draft unless we make some big enroads into FA

This gives us some protection for Luck when he passes, and gets the running attack going which also takes the pressure off of Luck

For too long we have had some great skill position folks on offense, without the boring, "big uglies" (nice description) on the OL that is needed to be a complete team

  4. It looks like Grubs turned down some nice coin to return to the Ravens

Some of these FAs are going to look for huge paydays.

We can blow through this extra cap space quickly if we bring in many high priced FAs.

(as fast as my wife can blow through any extra in the checking account :) )

We have quite a few holes to fill. My bet is we are selective this year on FAs and maybe a little

    More aggressive next year.

I think we MOSTLY will build thru the draft

We do need to protect our franchise QB

  5. I personally would love to have an exciting playmaker in round 2.......

    BUT.....

What no one wants is another David Carr

(a great prospect, that gets clobbered in thier first year........ It effected his career.)

With our line in shambles, i expect a "safe" pick like the best available guard

A speedy WR would be great..... But keeping a 22 year old kid upright while he adjusts to the game seems like a better choice

  6. "his health is obviously the first concern"

Is the biggest quote in the article.

    This situation hasnt really changed

    Three options are there

    1) Peytons not 100% NFL superstar healthy - he is gone

There have been many NFL players rehabbing from injuries that have been cleared to play in the NFL, but

    didnt reach the same level.

    2) Peyton is 100% healthy, and is 100% back to before and WANTS to be a Colt next year - He is a Colt next year

    3) Peyton is 100% healthy and is 100% back to before and DOESNT WANT to be a Colt next year - He gets released

  7. All things being equal you HAVE to take Luck

    But..........

    an interesting plan B is:

    Only if

IF Manning is 100 percent healthy AND 100 percent at the same level as before

AND shows a desire to play for 3-4 more years

Cleveland offers their 2 first round picks and their 2nd round pick. AND Joe Thomas, for Luck.

To do this option you would have to draft luck, then pull the trigger when Cleveland comes up to

    Pick.

    You then pick RGIII

The benefit of this strategy ?

You get the QB of the future

    You keep Manning

You begin the rebuilding process WHILE you win

You may be able to fill some of the holes this year that needed to be filled

    (OL, CB, SS, DT)

This will probably not happen, but its an interesting plan B.

I would be just as happy with Luck.

  8. You know, thinking about it.........Even if you want to trade...... You would HAVE to take Luck with the first pick.

If you trade to Cleveland for the 4th pick, hoping to get RGIII at 4th, you could have a team slide behind you and get RGIII with the 2nd or 3rd pick...... too dangerous

You have to have Luck regardless.

At the combine, if RGIII really shines, this could happen.

Low chances... but it could happen.......

Again...my asking point for the first pick would be Joe Thomas, 2 first round picks, and conditional pick for next year

  9. And allow me to pile on -- the cumulative monetary value of free and discounted tats received by Ohio State players still pales in comparison to what Chris Webber received under the table.

I like it......Does anyone notice that when you travel from the Ohio border to Michigan, there is a bad smell.........

    Like a urinal?

Maybe its a big bathroom....... maybe the toilet has backed up in the whole state......

  10. Jim Tressel has the kind of smug face that ya just want to punch the crap out of, repeatedly... I know I'm not alone in that feeling either...

We COULD do a LOT worse than Tressel as a HC...... but.... I dont see him getting the nod.

I am starting to think that Zimmer might make a good choice as well.

Hopefully this will get taken care of soon

  11. Tough crowd.

Tressel is NOT a character worry.

He decided not to share information about a player.

    He didnt pay anyone

    He didnt molest children

    He didnt recruit illegally

    He made a mistake.

There is something in the Good Book that says, about throwing a stone if you yourself are perfect....

All the guy has ever done, is WIN. Caldwell LOST at the college level....... He got a coaching job in the NFL.

Tressel won many national championships, over several years at a division 1 team.

He only won one national championship at Ohio State, but was a constant top rank in the top 5.

Much better than the previous 2 OSU coaches.

The players have always loved and repected the man.

He probably wont get the HC position, but hasnt been let go. They have a position for him i am sure.

But those that try to make him out to be horrible, are either inbred Michigan fans (aww shut up....... Just bustin on ya)

OR....... They dont have any idea about Tressel

If he was chosen........... I would support it as a fan 100%

  12. Tony was a huge factor as a head coach and being a driving factor of turning that team around.

I never said that he was the GM.

Before Tony........... That team went only one season of 10 wins...... Over a 20 year period.

You may be down-playing the impact that he had on that team..... By a great bit

  13. i like the way you overlook the fact that gruden took the tampa team to sb after dungy continually underachieved with it. and dungy didn't build anything, he was just the coach. and gruden did an excellent job in oakland...considering he was working for al davis.

not that i'm for hiring gruden...

Tony built that team in TB.

After the SB, the TB team literally fell apart..... With Gruden at the helm.

    He was let go

In Oakland, I believe Gruden had 2 good years.

Gruden might be a decent coach.....BUT...... Doesnt deserve the mystical praise given to him, by some

    on this board.

In reality, there are a few coaches that might work out here.

After so many years of an average defense I would love the HC to at least have some strengths on the defensive side of the field.

A great OC, paired with a defensive minded coach, could be what we need.

  14. That's the Dallas recipe. Didn't work. I think it's pretty well established that Wade Phillips is not a good head coach.

Wade Phillips looks like a goober....... but

The guy is a known defensive coach.

Once again he quickly showed that he could turn a defense around.

If we could field 90% of the offense that we have had in the past, and a Wade Phillips defense.....

    We could win well

Dallas has 2 huge problems....... I live here

The owner who forced players like TO and other nut cases on the coach., and Tony Romo, who cant play so well in December and January

  15. One thing I'm noticing is a lot of people don't seem to like the idea of Tressel taking over. As a non College Football fan I was curious as to why?

He seems to have done a heck of a job at Ohio, of was he just a great recruter?

He is a great recruiter, as well as a game manager. The players ALL loved the guy.

All the hate that people on the board have for him, amazes me.

All he did in his last two head coaching positions was WIN.

He does go a bit conservative at times but the guy is a heckuva coach

He held back on sharing info about a player selling a Jersey.

    He didnt molest children

He didnt pay players to come to Ohio State

He didnt give free stuff to families

    He didnt do anything illegal

He was not 100% truthful. He was trying to protect a poor decision made by his player

He chose the wrong way to go about it.

Tressel is at least as good as other NFL coaches that came from big time College teams

I get the feeling that he isnt going to be considered.

I would be happy with Wade Phillips, and a strong OC.

    That could work
