He is a low risk player it seems.
We definitely need help in the DB arena
Will probabaly not be a probowler, but maybe fills a hole tile we can find a better SS
It allows us to draft..... Wait for it.... Wait for it...... A guard and a center
-
If we were able to actually run on 1st down....... Imagine how much better our new QB would be able to play
Its tough to be successful when its always 3rd and 9
For so many years, we haved passed to set up the run......
Do you want to know why play action doesnt work anymore?
Its because NO ONE has feared our run.....
We almost always PASSED on short yardage situations because we couldnt move anyone back to get the first down.
We almost always came up against nickle packages on first down..... And they STILL couldnt run .....
The smaller pass blocking only guard doesnt cut it anymore in my book....
Get big blocking guards...... To keep our new franchise player from having to be the offense his first year
-
I agree with this, our #1 priority should be protecting Luck. With the 34th pick we should get Cordy Glenn or Peter Konz if available, or we can trade down and get Kelechi Osemele, Kevin Zeitler might be available in the 3rd or Amini Silatolu in the late 3rd or 4th. We need to get one of these guys because the last thing we need if for Luck to be on his back and terrified in the pocket like David Carr.
I think Cordy Glenn may actually slide a bit, and he will be there for us to pick.......... That would make my day
(and help keep Luck off the turf)
-
Who knows how it will turn out
They BOTH may end up in the HOF
Or
They BOTH may be at krogers in 6 years, bagging your groceries
You have to roll the dice with the most solid, less risky pick....... Thats LUCK
-
I may be wrong but i think we have a major problem on our OL
-
Just curious, but why do you think we have all the OL bodies we need?
-
There are some massive Guards that have late first round early second round grades, that i would be very happy with.
In my way of thinking... You have a QB that has every talent in the world........ You need to protect that asset while he is learning.
I dont want to see a David Carr happen here.....
-
I'm hoping for Konz or Mike Adams if we go o-line in the second. Although, Konz is unlikely to drop and Adams doesn't make as much sense with the Justice trade(not saying it doesn't make any sense just not as much).
So I guess I'd rather go with the bpa in the second and address interior o-line in the third.
Wouldnt it be great if a true massive run blocking OG fell to us?
I think we may get into some trading to get a G that would make a difference
I see Freeney getting traded, and some picks coming our way.
-
I really think we will get a second round pick for Freeney, on draft day
-
again..the contradiction...we're rebuilding...but we resign Mathis even though he's 31 and changing positions.
Doenst make sense to me.
A lot of Mathis success is because of Freeney..
I'd feel a lot better about 2012 if we had them both..
..and I wish he'd sign a 2 or 3-year extension so we can afford him..
In a 3-4 you really only have 1 rush linebacker
Between the 2, mathis is the one.
Freeney isnt that big, run stopping DE that a 3-4 needs.
He could be a situational player..... But..... Thats a ton of jack to spend
Mathis is still playing both the run and the pass at an extremely high level
And is 2 years younger
I also believe that new england is a good destination for Freeney.
They have little pass rush, and now that Mario is signed, it wouldnt suprise me to see the Pats make the trade
-
I agree that Freeney has no place on this team if we go to a 3-4.
Usually the 3 down lineman are 290 plus in a 3-4
Have you noticed how few tackles Freeney is getting ?
He is still an awesome pass rusher..... But lets be honest....... He couldnt find a RB
If it was tied to his arm.......
Mathis is great in both areas.... Thats why he works as the rush LB in a 3-4
The trade may come on draft day, if an early run occurs on defensive ends.
Usually the draft day trades work out best for the team giving up a player.........
We can always cut Dwight, and get the cap savings after the draft
Sort of high stakes poker.
I am not sure why everyone thinks that he should rush to restructure.
If he gets cut, he gets to negotiate with any team HE chooses...... And get another signing bonus.
Again.... We have to be honest...... We are rebuilding....... We have many holes.....
At best, we probably have 3 years till we have a chance at fielding a SB type team.
Freeney will probably be retired by then
-
That's because we got 2 of them last year with picks 1 and 2, we just traded the eagles for Winston Justice, and might also add Evan Mathis.
But we dont have Evan Mathis........ (bird in the hand , is better than 2 in the bush)
If we start this year with our current OL, Luck will end up getting hammered.......
We are tremendously weak up the middle.
We have no proven "pile" movers on the roster
If we can sign some FA help at C and G...... It frees us up
As i said on another thread... The sexy pick isnt always the right one
-
Nobody seems to want OL before round 4..........
-
There are plenty of reasons for him to want to be cut.
At this point he has his signing bonus already.
If he is cut he can choose the team HE wants to go to, AND, he could probably bag another signing bonus to boot
I expect the colts to cut him
-
This is all code for.......... We couldnt find someone to trade with us.....
-
He would be a decent pick up
-
Haynesworth is a cancer
Good draft, but OL maybe too late
The speed of the safeties in this years draft is alarming (or lack there of)
I know we need one, but maybe a FA?
-
A great OL will always make the skill positions on offense better
A great OL will allow the offense to hold the ball longer, keeping the defense from being on the field longer
And getting worn down
A great OL will allow you to have those wins in an outdoor stadium when the wind, rain, and snow effects A passing game
A great OL keeps a young QB healthy and learning the game
As is, This OL is not great, this OL is not good.
I view our 2 rookies as potential at this point...... Maybe they will be good, maybe they will be great....
But neither was dominating
My guess is that Saturday is gone.
We have huge holes here.
I wouldnt be sad if we did the right thing...... And got the top guard with our second round pick, and picked up a G/C in FA
Once again... Not sexy..... Sort of boring, but the right move.
A debateable topic about an OL from 2004, seems to not impact our current situation
Maybe they can all come out of retirement and play again
-
I am all for getting at least one FA road grader type guard.......
-
I am all for Gaither, (if he is healthy) but somethings not right with him
He was let go by the Ravens
He was signed by the Chiefs but didnt break into the starting lineup.
He was cut by the Chiefs.
Maybe the guy is a headcase
But if two teams are dumping him, he may not be the saviour of this line,
-
Andy..... We agree on one point.....
This line has no where to go but up
It isnt a proven line with two inconsistent and / or injured rookies from last year
A center that is at the end of his career
A glaring hole at one guard spot
Another guard that was a castoff, that is serviceable at best
As a whole this line needs wholesale help
-
But both were a part of a line that was arguably the best in the league. Tarik Glenn and Jeff in their primes helps a lot, but Lilja and Scott were big reasons why James was as good as he is. No one can run very well with a terrible run blocking O-line.
That line was not best in the league. Not even close. They could pass block. Of course having a QB with a quick release might have assisted
Our yards on the ground came against nickle coverages, not because our OL pushed anyone around
So again....
Build the OL first. Build a balanced offense, we will do great things in the long run
-
Nice draft..... But
I would be suprised if Saturday is back
We may need to get additional OL in the draft
-
Again..... Have to agree to disagree
Illja and Scott were decent pass blocking guards.
Neither was great at moving the pile
I will stand by my post that Ron Solt was the last guard that the Colts had that could actually consitently move the pile.
This is evident when we needed to run in the playoffs...... And couldnt.....
Year.... After year...... After year
The Colts should have won 5 or 6 super bowls......
When you cant run in January...... You dont get to the Super bowl
We need to learn from the past
I woud like to move from guards that are ok to guards that can actually run block
Still A Chance Freeney Is Traded
in Colts Football
Posted
Mark, i dont think that you would want to tie up that much money for a situational player.
Freeney has been awesome........ But i will be very suprised if he is on this team at the start of the season
