  1. Hell yea we had a chance.  Would have been in the underdog but we had a chance.  We had a chanced against the Patriots.  As our previous head coach would, refer to a couple sayings.  Bum Phillips was asked if he thought they had chance against the Miami Dolphins when the were a power the Oilers were upstarts.  He said something like "Oh yea, I'd hate to go into any game thinking we didn't have a chance."  Also a local sports radio show person said, even before the playoffs said the Colts have a punchers chance at winning the Super Bowl, Andrew Luck being that heavy weight puncher.  Also if the 2007 NY Giants can go all the way through the playoffs as a wildcard and beat the undefeated Patriots in the SB and repeat the feat in 2011 as a 9-7 wildcard, although the Patriots was not undefeated but still formidable.  Even our SB III Baltimore Colts upset loss as 18 point favorites, shows anybody has a chance.  So yes we had a pretty good chance but we lost so that's history.

I think our chances will be even better because of the continued improvement of Andrew Luck and other young players and the return of our injured Army.  The other 2 great QB to beat, Manning and Brady will still be good but not sure if they can improve anymore, the are already terrific though.  I'm not as concerned about our late 1st rounder to the Browns, I here we have 32 million for free agency, we can do something with that, though not as much as the 42 million we had last year, I think that was amount.

  2. you don't cut blitzing linebackers.  it is pass blocking 101

they are too athletic.  you can do it succesfully and the guy can still make the play.  as you have seen

    dierdorf was not wrong.

Disagree, just don't miss, if Collins went to the ground, Luck would have enough time to do something.  Collins never went to the ground/stayed on his feet.  Bringing a big man down, hit him low, Football 101, tackling, blocking, whatever.  It was the execution that was the problem.  You hit him high could just as bad a mistake.  I remember the great blocking RB Rocky Bleier trying to take on Randy White high.  Rocky got knocked on his butt and White sacked the QB.  Now, I'm now saying Brown is a good as Bleier nor Collins as good as White in his prime but I remember it.

  3. I know he played like crap yesterday.  over the past 4-6 weeks, it seems he can make a great catch followed by a drop.  At least he caught a few long ones.  DHB did not catch any.  Roger's did not bring it yesterday and we sure could have used him.  Hopefully, he makes that 2nd year jump/improvement.  He did not have OTA's and training camp with us last year.

  4. Dennard is not your usual  7th round pick. He would have been taken waaaayyyyyyy higher if he wasn't dumb enough to punch a police offer in the weeks leading up to the draft.

OK I see, good scouting, another character issue guy for the Pats, but not as bad as Hernandez.

  5. There was a play in the game when Dierdorf makes mention of Brown making a good block on a pass completion.  I was happy for him, considering the "Damm Donald"  Manning fiasco and also the miss pass block on the last 4th down play the rushed luck into a incomplete pass in the loss to Miami, early in the season.

Yesterday, in the 3rd quarter, down 22-29, with at 3:02, 2nd and 8.  ILB  Jaime Collins blitzed and Brown tried to cut him and missed and Luck was sacked for a 8 yard loss.  Dierdorf says you can't cut him, you have to square him up high.  If you can believe this, I'm going to disagree about blocking with this HOF lineman.  I'd say you can cut him but if so, you can't miss him.  If Brown cut him and Collins went down, who knows what Luck would have done, probably at least not a sack and maybe a big play because Collins vacated a area that creates more passing lanes.

Then next play 3rd and 16 and was the Whalen no call on holding/pass interference, if caught and brought down with no YAC, it would have been a 12 yard gain.

Anyway, Brown had a oustanding year and I'm not sure if we would have been in the playoffs without him, considering how weak the AFC South was this year, we still would have contending.  I would like to see Brown re-signed.

Pats LB Jaime Collins looks like a keeper.  I mentioned to my son Collins, a 2nd round draft choice was having a good game with the sack, a couple good pass defense plays of Fleener, then he makes a interception deep in coverage.  Looks like they found a replacement for Spikes.  Still, we will beat them down the road.

  6. I forgot to mention that I'm not throwing Mr Luck under the bus, just making an observation.  Like I said about Manning in his youth, I believe in Andrew Luck and has had an outstanding 2 years in the league.  He is destined to to win a Super Bowl for us, probably more then 1 Super Bowl Championships, before he is done

  7. After replaying the 1st half today, I could not help but endure watching the 1st interception so I tried to dissect it.  Dierdorf makes a comment that he stared down Brazil on that play, yes but that was not the reason for the int.  It was supposed to be a quick slant, the safety was not an issue.  The CB Dennard was.  Brazil I think was supposed to make a quick inside move and slant.  It was more of a timing plan. Brazil tried to do an outside fake and in a hand exchange/tangle and as he cutting inside, Luck threw the ball and Dennard jumped the route for the int.  Brazil should have made a quick inside move from the get go and his body would have prevented the int and get the possible 1st down reception and it was a 3rd and 2 situation.  Luck is not the type to point fingers at Brazil and it is his fault too, not to recognize Brazil was unable to get position on the quick slant.  Otherwise, Brazil did have a good game.  We are making Dennard, a 7th round draft choice last year, look like an All-Pro.

  8. I replayed yesterdays 1st half, focusing on our running plays.  Sometimes he does just watches the RB after the handoff and sometimes he does act like he has the ball but looks quickly and has a split second fake that he has the ball.

Now some other comments.  I watched Tom Brady, on 4 runs and he similarly continued to look at the RB after handoff on 4 consecutive running plays.  If the block are there, it's there I guess.

Still, I think it is a good idea to carry out a fake like you have the ball after the handoff, and also to continue the fake for another .5 second.  It can hold the DB's and LB a step and our running game needs all the help it can get.

However, if he did that on the 1 yard line against KC when Donald Brown fumbled, he may never had gotten to that ball to run it in.  Still, you don't play for the fumble, you play to make the play successful.  Food for thought.

  9. Fleener has closed the gap with his 2nd year improvement and experience.  If Allen comes back good as new, we are going in good shape at TE.  Fleener can line up outside as well and Allen being a little better blocker and solid receiving TE.

  10. I want Peyton to win it all, I'll remain loyal to him forever what he did for the Indianapolis Colts, we were doormats before he came to Indy.  At least we went to 2 SB and won 1.  We should have won at least another 1-2 SB's though and it is not all his fault.  He had a nice 12 year run in Indy and I'd take a repeat of that anytime.  Especially enduring the pre -Manning days and the Baltimore Colts before the move.  Even the great Bert Jones didn't get us a playoff win.

After Manning wins the SB this year, he can pass the torch to Luck and Colts to win it all.

  11. I haven't watch to observe that will replay the Pat game to check in to that.  You would think he would know this but if true, the coaches should bring that to his attention as it is easily correctable.  I say, this is fundamental, even to down high school and pop warner level football.  I would be surprised if true but in a way, I kind of hope you are right, so an easy improvement can be made.

  12. He really stepped it up, especially at the end of the year.  He did have a good game when he beat Seattle too.  It seems in the last game when he needed about 70 yards to go over 1,000.  We went to him early and often and it worked well, that carried over to the KC playoff game, and he overall did well yesterday, even though the Pats was trying to take him out of the game plan.  That one finger tip catch was exceptional.  He kinds of reminds me of Marvin Harrison, probably because of the size, but TY seems more explosive.  Hopefully TY can have the similar long term durability and productivity as the great Marvin Harrison.  TY should continue to improve next year and he is already awesome.

  13. Agree, that first interception was huge.  To his credit, he brought us back and we still had a shot at the end of the 3rd quarter but we can only second guess what would have been the outcome if he took us a TD, or at least a FG on that opening drive.

  14. Yes, that was a key miss call by the refs, and the score was still 22-29.  The previous drive had another miss call, the DB should have been called for holding on Whalen.  If they call Gordy for PI on the Pats previous drive, then should have called the holding the the Pat DB.  Not sure if it would have changed the outcome of the game but maybe, just maybe.

  15. We had an overall good season.  Luck did get his first playoff win, and still accomplished a lot considering the injuries.  When I read a few weeks ago, Wayne's goal is to win the comeback player of the year award, it brought a tear to my eye and he can do it too. Imagine that with Hilton's arrival, Dwayne Allen's return, and the continued improvement of Brazil and Whalen.

    Some observations of today's game:

    - Luck's first interception was costly but we were able to comeback from it.

    - The 2nd interception of Havili's shoulder pad was also cost, no all Luck's fault, unfortunate bounce, and we were driving/gaining momentum before half.

    - 3rd interception was a force pass, trying to do too much.

    - Still we were only 1 score down at the last few minutes of the 3rd quarter, 29-22, with 2 possessions that did not score.

    - The 1st possession was the no holding call, that that the DB held Whalen, should have been a penalty and a 1st down.  As someone said, if the prior PI call of Gordy is called which it should not have, then holding should have been called on the DB gaurding Whalen, they should call it the same both ways.  If not call on Gordy, then fine, don't call it on Whalen play, if called on Gordy, then call it on the Whalen play.

    - The 2nd possesion was when the OL tripped Luck when he see he was going to run by him.  Almost felt like it was a conspiracy theory.

    - Blount had a good game, but I give him 10 yards on the 73 yard runy and Landry should have made the tackle but he took a bad angle when he didn't have to still made contact with Blount and he ran right through him.  I thought run stopping was he strength.  Instead on 166 yards, he would have about 103 yard on 24 carries.  I thought our defense would have been acceptable otherwise.  I think the front 7 had a hard time maintaining focus when we were 21 points down with 4-9 minutes timeframe and a lot of yards was gained here.  The Pats do have Brady and fine stable or RB's, so it would be hard to stop them completely.  I wish we signed Blount this past off season.

    - Rogers had a bad game, and a key drop in the first half.  In fact over the past month, he had a few great catches mixed with a few drops.  He missed a few comebacks passes in from the DB including one for a possible big gain today.  He missed another pass late in the game.  Hopefully the OTA's and training camp helps him improve.

    -  Richardson, should have sprinted to the outside on that run, may gained a few yards instead on losing 1.  Likewise, hopefully the OTA and training camp helps him improve to the RB everybody thought he could be as he came out of college.

Peyton Manning:  I'm rooting for the B roncos to beat the Chargers, then the Pats, then win the SB.  Then we can win the SB next year.  Overall good season this year, to advance farther next year.

  16. Besides being a savvy vet, lives in Indy.  Another possible perspective is this prevents the Patriots from signing him.  They need WR's, and it would be a bit concerning if they signed him.  Now the concern is reversed.  I can relate this similar to my San Francisco Giants who won the Championship 2 and 4 years ago.  4 years ago, the Giants signed outfielder Cody Ross so San Diego I think it was could not sign him.  Ross only went on to win the National League Championship Playoff MVP and also was hot in the World Series for them.  I'm not saying Branch will win another SB MVP but any contribution is great.   He has to better then an uproven undrafted free agent.

  17. I watched the 2nd have closely last night.  It looks like the starting DL is Redding and RJF and DE's and Franklin at NT.  Chapman comes off the bench and does his thing, I was pleasantly surprised with Pendleton, he is active and hustles.  Somtimes Chapman and Pendleton plays DT together.  On certain pass defense formations, they have the big DE's play DT and put Mathis, Walden, or Werner as outside rush LB/DE's.  The LB's combo is interesting.  Sheppard and McNary is getting is getting a lot of playing time with Freeman and Conner and in the inside and that keeps them all fresh to run and hustle to the ball carrier.  Sheppard seems to have settled down is playing more relaxed and comfortable.  McNary was been effective from the get go.

  18. I like the signing.

He is a savvy bet.  As mentioned, he lives in Carmel so he has a tie to Indy, a great way to finish he career, and if something good happens, could return next year.  The Colts offensive mindset now is passing, so if any of our receivers gets nicked, he can be a quality 4th WR in a 4 WR package, the defense has to respect him. DHB may not play next game and the other WR signing Josh Lenz is listed at 6-0 194, and I've read he runs a 4.35 and I have a feeling he may replace DHB as the gunner.

  19. Yes Curran is a homer, that's obvious as he is looking through rose colored glasses.  As the saying goes, be careful what you ask for.  You got the Colts and they will be there at kickoff playing loose and wild but with character and discipline.  After yesterday, nothing can phase the Colts. Actually I wanted San Diego to win so we can play the Pats first for multiple reasons.  One is I don't want to the Colts to eliminate Peyton Manning unless it is the last resort, that means I would rather eliminate the Pats first, then the Bronco's.  If we don't win it all, I hope Manning does.

  20. I always thought Donald Brown was a good RB, he took a lot of flak with Manning calling him out about his miss pass blocking assignment.  He also did miss a key pass block at crunch time in our lost to Miami this year.  He earned the respect he is getting now and I would like to have him back at a fair price for him and the Colts.  As mentioned, fortunately most of Trent Richardson's contract is paid by the Browns.  Speaking of Trent, yes he did have a crucial fumble with his only touch yesterday which could have cost us the game.  Fortunately the team had his back and pulled out a victory.  I thought in our last game against the Jags, he was running a little better, more comfortable, very subtle signs of being the runner we expect.  I thought he would have good game yesterday but after fumble, no more touches which is understandable, and Brown was running well.  On the fumble run, it looks like he was about to make something out of nothing but oh well.  Get back on track next week.  I think our 3rd RB will probably be Ballard, because of his youth and affordable contract and ACL repair success now days, unless he has a set back.  Bradshaw unfortunately may be the odd may out as he has a higher contract demand then Ballard, his is older but may still have some miles left but the key concern is a neck injury for a RB is more concerning then a neck injury for a QB, Manning for example.  Bradshaw if  healthy can be a leader from RB position.  4 RB's for a 3 slots, a good problem to have.

  21. Another factor yesterday is Satele played well. We've been bashing him for 2 years and it has been so frustrating watching him screw up and I really want to see him do well.  It is a hidden key for our offense, if our center, Satele or whomever plays well, our offense will play better.  He was even was lucky enough to have a fortunate bounce of that fumble off his helmet in Andrew's hand, you know if the Chiefs recovered it, more Satele bashing would occur.  There were NO highlights or replays of Satele missing a block or assignment and that's a good sign.  Keep it up through the playoffs.
