  1. Now this the draft is over.

I'm really looking forward to seeing our Colts in a 3rd and short yard situation.  With LG - Q. Nelson. OC - R. Kelly, RG - B. Smith starting, and have any of our RB's that Coach Reich chooses to run it up the middle.  I would expect consistent success.  As a fan, that would be great to watch, and if they are consistent, could open up a periodic fake hand-off and pass. Would really open things up.  Just have make sure our tackles and tight ends cover the edge, don't want to have a LB or DB come form the outside for the tackles when there is good blocking in the middle, like what Willie McGinest did to Edgerrin James at our 1 yard line in our almost come from behind lost at home, cost us hosting the playing game to the Patriots.

  2. I was watching the Hines highlights and on a run against Syracuse, he and broke away and thought there no way this LB would catch him he was caught just before scoring.  I was wondering who this LB was it was our 7th round LB Zaire Franklin.  This is pros and cons for us.  Hines is still really fast and did have a long run but he was caught when I almost thought he was uncatchable. I was one of those who posted we should draft Hines, about an hour before the draft.  The pro's is shows how fast Franklin is.  My first view of Franklin's highlight was of him being exposed to short passes to his either side of him, but that be more a Syracuse defensive scheme than his fault.  Another highlight of Franklin was impressive as a MLB.

More on the Hines vs Franklin, there was a short yardage run, close to the goal line up the middle and Hines scores a TD, he bounced of Franklin for the TD so it shows strength and toughness for Hines, as he is stereotyped as a small fast guy.  Highlights of him shows him running the ball quite often.  He also said he is comfortable with kickoffs, punt returns and even being a gunner on punt coverage.  Unfortunately, it shows Franklin missing the tackle.

On our MLB position which is important in a 4-3 defense, I like our 7th rounder Matthew Adams, the way he hits is very impressive.  As Tony Dungy would say, he likes guys that can deliver a striking blow and Adams seems to bring it consistently with his hits.

  3. DT Settle is avialable. I know it was mentioned the Colts are not looking for 335 lbs DT's but is talent is intriguing. Could take him and put him on a 10-15 lbs weight loss program and he will be that much quicker.

WR Marcel Ateman, Oklahoma St.  Is a big WR 6-3 215, who caught a lot of big passes from QB Mason Rudolph, drafted by Pittsburgh

OT Tyrell Crosby, Oregon good enough on our team to compete for the starting right tackle position, if it works out. Q. Nelson and B. Smith can give us a dominant middle with R. Kelly.

  4. Colt Nation,

I did have Nyhiem Hines on my wish list per the original post on this email.  I was watching more highlights of him, he can also run the ball from scrimmage 6-8 carries a game, or a little more.  Mack can get his 10-15 carries.  We can go with a 3 back rotation, with the 3rd being a big back in 239 lbs Matt Jones for 3 changes of pace.  Hines is a dangerous kickoff returner too.  Good home run threat, kind of like what TY brought from his WR position.

  5. Moving forward, I was looking at possible next selections.

2 players that  jump out at me with our early 4th round pick, I probably could find others like a CB or WR if I looked but I like these 2 players:

1 - DT Tim Settle, 6-3 335, Virginia Tech.  Has some neat positive. Besides run stopping, has some inside pass rushing skills.  If Ballard says

we are building from the inside (line) out then lets go all in.  We got 2 top offensive lineman, 2 pass rushers, lets get a big DT.

2 - RB Nyheim HInes, 5-8 1/2 197, NC State.  He can play RB,, or slot as he is a good receiver and gifted kick returner which is instinctive, he has has moves and is fast.  I think of                                                                                  Darren Sproles like, and even though small, he is big man on the football field.  He makes the big plays and a player like this is not easy                                                                             to find.  Can be worth his weight in gold.

  6. I thought with the 3rd pick, I'd be happy with 1-DE Chubbs, 2-RB Barkley, and 3-OG Nelson.  I still feel that way but think Barkley will go gone.  In casual football social talk, others say Cleveland should take Barkely #1 over any QB, but they can gamble and get the QB they want and still get Barkley at #4.  Unless the Jets do something weird and take Barkley #3.

Anyway, BLUF,  I'd be very happy with 1-OG Nelson, 2-RB Sony Michel (any of the 3 second rounders).  I was very impressed with him whenever I seen Georgia play.  I think he would be a second round steal and can pair with Marlon Mack in our backfield.

I think we still need an upgrade at ILB.

At DT:  Woods (good year), Ridgeway(young and improving, opportunity to start), and Stewart(should make rookie year jump) are a decent trio, but no superstars, unless Ridgeway or Stewart makes a big jump.  Anderson can play inside on passing downs.

WR is a needs with Moncrief departing.  TY is TY, Rogers is an undrafted FA nugget but has to remain healthy.  Need another dependable WR or we will hurting in the 3 WR, not to mention 4 WR formations.

Beside my wants, we have 2 other 2nd rounders to do something.  Plus possibly another FA sighnee?  Not sure what Chris Ballard thoughts are, just wanted to put this disclaimer here.

  7. Correct, my bad, it was "Draft Day", didn't do my homework although its been on TV countless times lately.                    I don't if Ballard tried to trade him to another team or include him in the Jets trade but that was just my thoughts, regardless.  Nobody knows his thoughts or plans unless he explains it and he is not obligated to do so.

  8. Hindsight is always 20/20 but an after the fact thought is Hankins could have been included in the trade with the Jets today.

They lost DT Muhammad Wilkerson to the Packers so it is a need for the Jets.

Since the Jets are offering 2nd rounders, we possibly could have gotten another 2nd rounder, in 2020.

Also could have held out for a player like Kevin Costner did in "The Draft".  I would have asked for either one of young back-up OL Brandon Shell (nephew or Art Shell) or Dakota Dozier, back-ups who could compete for a starting position with us.

About Kevin Costner and "The Draft", when the fictional Jacksonville GM took 3 second rounders for the #7 pick in the first round, that is where the movie lost some realism.

We got basically the same thing (all probably early 2nd rounders too, assuming the Jets will be going through growing pains with a rookie QB and hopefully suck this year) , but we also got the #6 pick.  We did give up an earlier pick in the #3 vs the #7 in the movie.  Just my thoughts.

  9. This post made me replay it and look at is closer.  The catch was a TD, when he caught the ball, his right foot was still on the ground.  That was the question, because at real speed, 2nd step with the right foot is clearly out but the right foot is in when the ball is caught.  Still he could have dragged the foot to insure being called good.  The only reason this may be called out is, and it did not show this angle, is if he bobbled the ball, then it is out.  If he did not bobble it, the call was wrong and it should have been challenged.  On my DirecTV mode, it allows fraction forward with the movement of the ball approx every 2 feet as he catches it, he has the ball with his right foot in, for 3 frames.

  10. Likewise, this will be my first Indianapolis Colts game and I figure I'd pick "The Game" against the Patriots.  Fortunately, the Colts have won 3 in a row to bring excitement back and it will be amped up.  I arrive Sunday morning, should be checked into the hotel about noon, rest for a few hours, the go to the game.  I got the parking pre-paid, about a 10 minute walk the parking area.  On Monday, I'd like to drive to the Colt Complex, if I can get in to the parking lot or not, I will find out. Then I plan to take the Indianapolis Motor Speedway tour.  Then fly out Tuesday.

Besides the Colt shop in the mall.  Does you local Wal-Mart sell Colts paraphernalia and clothes.

  11. Act like I expected them to win.  I'm flying in Sunday morning for my first game in Indy.  I've been getting hyped since last week and getting more hyped everyday.  Decent scenario, even thought we had a rocky start, we are 3-2, underdogs, which is atypical for us but we can do it, the giant killers. Bought my tickets for $278 a few months ago, 2 months ago I seen it going for $433 in the same section, seemed like the last couple seats in that section.  The Pats is hot but so what, nobody thought Eli and Giants could beat them and remember what happened, twice.

  12. Still don't provide links for you information looks like Grigs was smarter than you and your mysterious source who had Blount as the MVP of the SB lmao. keep up the great knowledge....that stupid Grigs didn't bring in an average back who has no receiving skills all kinds no idea about our playbook add alot of attitude problems to our 53 man roster in late Nov. Hey we should dump him?!?! glad your here I had always thought ganes were won in the trenches

I didn't come here to argue with anyone but I can have some fun with you like calling you Mr lack of insight/clueless yourself, but nah, 2 wrongs don't make a right.  Links?  I seen it on TV, I don't owe you anything, even if I wanted to look for the link, which I don't.  Grigson made a mistake, we all do, except yourself of course by your attitude.  I don't think he should be fired as he made some good moves, just not this one among others.  Later.

  13. my broker could've told me to invest in apple 30 years ago

The problem is that I know myself some others wanted the Colts to sign Blount when he was available, it was even mentioned of Colts forum that Blount was available.  I just made mention of it recently, but I know for a fact, I wanted the Colts to sign him, we passed on him and but the Pats signed him instead.   Now if your broker told you to invest in Apple and you didn't, that's on you.  If he didn't, it was because he didn't know.  Grigson knew of Blount, and cognitively passed on him for whatever reason.

  14. I like a few things about this signing;

1 - Not that you have to be big to be a good WR but has good size which compliments well with the small but explosive TY Hilton and another good size WR Donte Moncrief.

2 - Also compliments well with our 2 young TE's.

3 - Makes an early WR draft selection a lesser priority.  IMO, we need O-line and safety among other thinks in the draft and free agency.

  15. With the present power status, similar to the Manning days, will still need to get the Brady led Pats at home in playoffs.  That was only way Manning was able to do it that 2006 AFCC thriller victory over the Pats.  Perhaps someday, when our monster is complete and we can beat anybody, anyplace, anytime.  Like the hated Pats and we are trying to get there.  I hope in a few years, post Brady, they don't get lucky and find another superstar QB,  Concerned that Belichick may show his genius again in finding this QB who is alive right now somewhere, just like the antichrist.

  16. You think Blount would have came in and saved the day do you? Great insight to the problems this team needs to solve. Ever heard of a kid from Notre Dame named Jonas Gray?

I initially had mentioned RB Gray as the other RB we would still have to stop, who ran over us in the regular season but decided to leave it off, so I was aware of this.  Knowing what happened, I'd trade going against Gray over Blount, don't think it would be any worse for us.  If Blount contributed anything for us, it would have been gravy.  He surely would not do anything for the Pats if we signed him.  We also could have moved/swayed him into the Colt family atmosphere and buy into our monster building for next year.  I seen one expert that predicted he would be the Super Bowl MVP.  We are so good, especially at RB, we don't/didn't want this guy?  Unfortunate Grigson mistake.

  17. As I remember, after Bradshaw went down, there was 2 FA RB's available that was being considered; L. Blount and Ben Take.  I was hoping we'd take a chance and sign Blount.

It would've reminded me of my favorite baseball team, SF Giants signing of OF Cody Ross a few years ago, primarily to keep the 1st place SD Padres from signing him.  Besides keeping him out of SD, Ross went on to play big for the Giants as the caught the Padres, he won the NLCS MVP enroute to the 1st of 3 World Series Championships.

Back to Blount, if we had him, the Pats would not,  They now talk about Blount like his is what Trent Richardson was fantasized to be for us.  No one talks about his off field issues when he produces.  He would have given us a nice combo RB with Herron as a big big back with good quickness and moves we never had.  Belichick again looks like a genius in getting Blount for nothing and we give up a #1 for bust Richardson.

  18. A possible key for the Colts is needing home field advantage in the playoffs.  Similar to 2006 when we beat the Pats at home in the AFCCG.  Especially the Pats with their weather, deflated footballs, etc.  I know we won on the road against Baltimore in 2006. and Denver this year but the Pats is a different animal for us.  So a 12 plus win season may be needed to also move forward and host and win the AFCCG and Super Bowl.  It would help if we can stop the run as well.

  19. There are two plays that sealed our fate in this game. On the first PATS drive, they go 3 and out, which in my view was huge for the Colts. Then Cribbs muffed the punt and gave the PATS a short field to put up a quick TD.  The other play, was the miss on the 51 Yd. FG. That gave the PATS a short field (mid field) and they drove to puts us down 14-0.  Pagano should have nevered tried to go for the FG, when it was  raining and we were kicking into the wind. PATS exploited both mistakes and that gave them the momentum and rattled the Colts psyche. We did respond with a nice drive that we converted into a TD and I thought that might calm our nerves. PATS end half with a FG and we are down 17-7 with us kicking to them to start the 3rd qtr. That opening drive in the 3rd quarter just killed the colts since it put them down 24-7.  PATS totally dominated balance of the game and Luck put up a terrible 2nd half.

Perhaps the game might have been different if Cribbs did not fumble and if Pagano did the smart thing and punted the ball.

If he had made the FG then it would not have been a bad call.  I thought he did have enough distance, just missed it right and badly.  Vinny did show to have good leg strength during the year and supposed to know how to deal with NE weather conditions, remember his kick in the snow, but for some reason he missed 2 FG's in 3 playoff games and missed only 1 in 16 regular season games, go figure.

  20. Cribbs should be history.  Even though the final score would suggest it would not matter but I sure would like to have seen what would have happened if he had not fumble that punt.  Indy will never forgive him for that and unfortunately that will be his legacy.  Almost as bad as the Hank Baskett fiasco.  Baskett's is worse though as it was the Super Bowl, and surely that one play may have cost us the Super Bowl.

  21. Very good point.  That year we did not play run defense well at during the regular season.  Defense did a amazing turn around in the playoffs, especially againts the Chiefs and and Ravens.  It did help the we safety Bob Sanders for the playoffs and DT Booger McFarland at the trade deadline.  Maybe we can can have one of those playoff improvements this year but it would be nice the show it consistently during the regular season.

  22. My observations:

1 - Freeman was not his usual solid self, and also did seem to lack some hustle.

2 - D. Jackson and not to far behind Freeman in his play.

    3 - D Line got abused

1-3 caused Gray to get his 199 yards as T. Rich probably could have gotten at least 100 with those holes

    4. Hilton didn't step up to to level of play for this big game

    5.  We could not run and we could not stop the run.

    6. Luck, I love him and he is our man, all in.  However, I have a friend who often tells me his is not sold on Luck yet, that just

stick  my mind as sometimes just does not take over the game when he should.

    7.  Coaching.  I'm concerned here, I like Pagano, he is real easy to like.  However, I'm getting concerned about his coaching

ability; 1st-motivation, allowing the Pittsburgh and today lost.  We were favored today and I think against Pittsburgh as well

.  Admitted to be outcoached by Tomlin, and was surely outcoached by Belichek again today.  As Dungy mentioned at halftime

today, calling that time out with just under a minute and inside the 10.  I wondered if a timeout was called and Dungy

confirmed it.  They could/should have waited until at least under 30 seconds to call a time out, was rIsky leaving Brady that

much time but Belichik stood pat with the 14-10 lead.  Today he played on 4th down in desperation as he remembered he

should have done that in the playoff lost last year to the Pats.  There was another coaching mistake he admitted that I can't

remember.  Caldwell had a few mistakes as well, but it was his poor judgement in calling timeouts.  Also Belichik outcoaches

most other coaches but it is just how bad he was outcoached, it wasn't even close.  Not sure how innovative Pagano is.

Anyway, we should still make the playoffs, if we want to go to Super Bowl, because of today's lost, we will probably have to beat the Pats in NE in Jan, a tough thing today, from experience of the Manning era.  If  Luck can got to NE and beat the Pats, his legacy will then be as huge as ever, along with Pagano's.  Which would be great.

Have a nice Monday everybody, the sun will rise in the morning.  Just venting frustration and will always be a Colt fan.

  23. My online research shows these players have pretty good skills for UDFA

S -Dewey McDonald - looks like he has a chance at a need position of safety

CB - Keon Lyn - good sized CB from a good program

NT - Zack Kerr - active NT, we already have Chapman, Mont Hughes, Art Jones.  Competes with Pendleton who looked decent

last years, has a chance.  Plus Hughes and Jones may play some DE to open up playing time.

CB - Qua Cox - chance to make squad and add depth.  Jackson St puts players in the NFL.

WR - Greg Moore - tall WR, had academic issues, but still had some Division I offers but chose Lane.

OG - Marcus Hall - started on same OL as our #2 Mewhort.  Has a altercation incident against Michigan to include given the

finger with both hands as walked out after being ejected.  Said he got caught in the moment against rival Michigan.  Gets a chance

             with Colts,

Highlights look pretty good.  Is it possible to have Mewhort starting at LG and Hall starting a RG?

C - Jonathan Harrison - following the Pouncey brothers, he must be decent at least and could add depth and compete for a starting job.

What I didn't like was a question why his Florida team could not run up the middle against Miami.

QB - Caleb Cox.  Interesting, Randall Cunningham from the same UNLV said Cox is really flying under the radar and would draft

him.  At 6-3 209, with a good TD/int ratio and good running stats, had big wins too. Thought he may be considered for a

position switch to safety but his 4.9 40 is too slow, unless that is an error, I think it might be because he is a good running

            QB.

GM Grigson brings up a good point.  Fans like us/me don't know what they know.  I only have the intel of magazines and internet.  The have that and I bet they do look at the same magazines, but they have scouts, more films, go and workout players, go speak and the player to dinner to get to know his personality, speak with players college coaches, etc.

So when I see we passed on Lindy's Draft Magazines #1 DT Louis Nix to take Mewhort, I have to take the above into consideration.

  24. Bethea had some good years in his youth, I think we won the SB his rookie year as a started and also had a good year in the Saints SB lost year.  He had a better year in 2013 as compared to 2012 when I think was his worse, not factoring the 2011 non-Manning year. Still 2013 was little up and down, he did make some good plays but gave up more then I'd like to see.  Wear and tear may be taking its toll on him to.  We may need to go a different direction and let Bethea test the free agent waters.  Landry to me was a overall disappointment.  Elite body with making use of it.  Did make some good run stops and hits, but also had some misses, taking bad angles.  He got Punked by Blount on National TV and that at this point is what most will remember about him.  His pass defense instincts seems a little lacking as an elite body can only help so much here.  I think we are committed to him for a few more years with his contract so hopefully he get his on straight and focus on improvement as he is in his prime and he can make a positive impact for the Colts.  We need him for us to succeed among other things and obviously, that last game gives him the motivation to go out there be the enforcer we expected of him/
