  1. The Louis signing is simply a more positives than negatives type of signing.  The pros outweigh the cons.  It's funny people will slam Grigson for trying every which way to improve this team.  Everyone acts like Grigson is just scouring  "trash heaps" as someone put it.  But there is an old saying.  One man's junk is another man's treasure.  Think of Jerrell Freeman.  I would rather have my GM on the grind trying to find talent anywhere possible than just using FA and overpaying.  Take a flyer on a guy who could be that missing cog that makes our line perfect for our scheme.  Why not?  you miss 100% on the chances you don't take.

I swear its almost like some people would rather have an owner like Snyder. . . . . all I can say is Albert Haynesworth anyone?

  2. Last year was maddening when it came to "running" to say the least but I feel there is a lot of potential with a healthy line.

I don't see how people aren't excited about this.  If we have even a decent (120 yds 1 td) avg during the season from all three backs combined, that means they will begin biting on the PA fake.  Which creates so much opportunity for Luck and co. to go to work.

I don't think we have to be a SMASH mouth line ALL the time, but we need to be able to let teams know they in a fight.

  3. If I were a colts fan I would be concerned about a couple of things.

    1. Wanting Laron Landry, I just do not understand teams that want these run stuffing, liability in coverage safeties in a passing league. I am biased because I lived it with TJ Ward, but it hamstrings what you can do on defense to have a safety who is so one dimensional.

    2. Obviously Trent Richardson, I mean, jesus.

    3. The above two tell me, on some level he is fitting square pegs in round holes. You're a passing team, like it or not, you have no business trading for Richardson. To that point, you're a passing team, probably (likely) going to score a lot of points. Teams are going to have to pass to come from behind.....and you have a linebacker playing safety with no instincts. Again, that just doesn't seem to fit the culture.

Now, everyone wants a true "Free Safety", I get that but man it just seems like there is a lot of talent in places where they just don't fit.

Then again, I don't analyze it nearly as much because it's not my team.

Honestly though, an "outsiders" perspective has a lot of merit, being that the Colts aren't your team, your unbiased in a sense.  I tend to agree on some fronts with what you are saying, I just may not be ready to give up on ol Trent just yet.  Landry will lay the wood, just about as much as he misses a tackle.  I guess I prefer my safeties get int's and my lber's blow guys up. . . .

I do miss Mr. Glass though!  #21

  4. http://espn.go.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/47462/grigson-prefers-rookie-cbs-to-rookie-ols

Yes, its from last year, but I still believe it has merit this year.  I believe we will be drafting a safety and look for possibly one more signing (Mack  :goodluck:  :beg: )

I asked Grigson: Without knowing the guy, if you were forced to choose to play a first-year offensive lineman or a first-year defensive back, which would you rather put on the field?

    Said Grigson:

“I would have to say a DB. Because a first-year offensive lineman, there are a lot more bullets flying in that vicinity he’s working in that involves thinking, that involved experience. That’s why for rookie tackles, they call it a baptism by fire. You don’t say that because it’s an easy process. A lot of times that ends up working in their favor, that they were thrown out there like that.

"But a lot of times depending on the scheme you play, corners that play on an island they are relying on technique and pure athletic ability and God-given ability. A lot of times on the offensive line, their first year they are going to see exotic blitzes that they’ve never even dreamed of. They are going to see pass-rushers and body types that they never knew existed. I would say definitely corner.”

The offensive line and cornerback clearly rate as two of the biggest needs for Grigson and the Colts. And he’s got more than $40 million in salary cap space to fiddle with in free agency.

  5. Go through that link I put earlier.

You basically need to wait until Cleveland spends a bunch of cash, sign him to a sheet with a big year 1 roster bonus instead of signing bonus so theres a $20M+ cap hit, have the Browns not match, and then renegotiate it to a signing bonus after the time to match has passed.

This makes the most logical sense.  Since they couldn't get a deal done to trade for Revis, wouldn't they throw boatloads at him in FA? Let the Browns keep being the browns and they will spend too much that they can't match.

  6. Today i got a notification on my phone that said the Rams were planning on cutting cortland finnegan.. I would love to see him paired with Davis. That dude plays with the largest chip on his shoulder and would bring some much needed fire to our defense. It would also be nice to see him play against Andre Johnson again....

Finnegan had a passer rating of a 136 against him from opposing QB's just as an fyi

    First....   I'm confident they'll re-sign Davis.

Second...   if they didn't I'd lean toward Shields.

Third...    I read a story about 4-6 weeks ago saying Verner would NOT be a good fit for our scheme because he's not a press corner and that what we want.     He's a play off the receiver corner and that's not what we do.

So, while Verner is talented,  he appears not to be the fit we'd like....

I believe in the article I posted above, it says that he is a zone guy versus a man to man.  once again NCF your spot on

  7. Verner is the best available but seen he might give the titans a hometown discount and not sure what he's asking

If we cut Toler and Sheppard that pays almost half what it would cost for a good CB

according to "espn" Verner isn't giving too much of a hometown discount.  http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10549742/alterraun-verner-give-tennessee-titans-hometown-discount

I love being here," Verner told the newspaper. "I love my teammates and I love Tennessee. When it comes to the money, it is not like I need to be paid super high.

"But I am not going to be a fool and take anything that is super small. From a business standpoint, you don't know how long you are going to play in this league, so you have to take advantage when you can."

  8.

    A few things about this.

    • If the Colts wanted more of a cover safety to pair with more of a run stopping safety they would not have signed Landry to pair with Bethea.  Bethea has never been a coverage safety.
    • Decouds play dropped significantly in 2013, some say it is because of poor corner play.  Many fans think bethea's play dropped in 2013 yet it's blamed on "losing a step" rather than poor corner play.
    • Why do so many people think that just because someone is a free agent they are automatically better than their counterpart on the Colts roster?

Didn't you know that the status quo is overrated?  Obviously every FA is better than our current ensemble or they wouldn't be free agents.  Kinda like Tebow.  The colts should soooo go after him because Luck, clearly isn't going to be any good.  Same thing with our coaching staff.  I mean heck Monty Kiffin is "looking for work" he'd obviously be an upgrade over Manusky, and our "joke" of a HC.  Heck, we should just have our owner sell to that shrewd and amazing business owner Jerry Jones.  I mean look at what he's done with the Cowboys.

Its hard being a colts fan somedays

  9. There are rumors that there is a big rift between Harbaugh and the 49ers front office. There was a rumor last week that there was talk about a trade for him to go to Cleveland. Should the Colt be interested? There is the Stanford and previous Colts connection. I think he would be a huge upgrade over what we have now. Your thoughts?

Kind sir, you just got put on blast!!!!!

I give up on this forum, there's no more hope

apparently Mathis isn't too far behind

  10. Meh. He's a good kid and has a nice story but IIRC most of his sacks came in 1-2 games against mediocre competition.

He played in the SEC so his "medicore" competition was still a lot better than most conferences

Most (all) of the Mathis sacks came against mediocre competition when he was in college too.

I'm a Buckeye and thought Gholston was a great player for us. He had sacks against some top competition, including Jake Long. Turned out he was a one trick pony and that trick was quickly negated in the pros.

My point is that his competition matters less than his talent.

I don't know about that, unless i'm reading it wrong.  He played in the SEC which in college football is the toughest conference, not to mention that he was DPOY (or Co-DPOY) according to NCF.

I applaud the guy for coming "out" and getting ahead of the "situation" I just hope they allow this kid to play football versus making him the new "Tebow" with non-stop news coverage.
