The way I see it, we have 3 nickel corners (Nate Hairston, Kenny Moore and Chris Milton) and only 2 outside CB's (Wilson & Desir). They tried Hairston and Moore outside in camp, but both grade much higher on the inside.

Funny, I bellowed out that Pipkins would probably be around 6' 195# before I clicked on the player profile, and sure as suspected, he's listed as 6' 196#. Hopefully he's a good fit. I'd say Breeland is still a potential signing given the depth out there.

I like Morrison (more than many) because he is a physical run stopper. Packers liked what they saw too obviously.

Hopefully, Zaire Franklin gets on the field more now, because he can diagnose, move and tackle really well!

Agree I also like Adams a lot too!

Only really on!e ILB that I feel confident in on the packers and that’s Blake Martinez. But Ahmad Thomas has been decent  in camp. So I think Morrison is a  lock to make the team. ILB is a big time position of need

Agree, I do like the LB Ryan you have to but I think hes out for the year. Good trade for both teams i think. Gives both guys a shot in positions of need for both teams!

Sorry, a little before my time.  I don't have that era on instant recall.  :).  I have to watch Youtube videos to see Unitas or Jones.

It’s cool think of Brett Farve meets Ben Rothlisberger a little like luck too! A cannon for an arm, athletic, from  Louisiana, and fiery as could be! Would scream at officials often if they made a bad call or missed one! Nick named the  Ruston rifle! Those Baltimore Colt teams were very good! And fun to watch!e probably had the best Colts offense of line I’ve ever seen!

As an organization, with Manning and Unitas, the Colts are at the top in terms of all-time great QBs - both are probably top 5.  The 49ers, with Montana and Young, the Packers with Favre and Rodgers, would be up there.

Harbaugh was very good in 1995 - highest rated passer, led numerous comebacks, got a few MVP votes, and was a dropped Hail Mary away from the Super Bowl.

Bert Jones had a lot of potential, but injuries derailed his career.

Earl Morral won the MVP in '68 and won Super Bowl V in '70.

Bert Jones had much more than POTETIAl he won an MVP!

The closest qb after them was Jim Harbaugh. He was a comeback artist like Luck from what I hear (i was just a kid when he played here). The only other great qb for the colts was Johnny Unitas, but that was way back in Baltimore.

You have forgotten about Bert Jones apparently he was Ridiculously goodRidiculously good!! If not for injury and the Steelers and Raiders being so good he may even be a household name!!  He played in Baltimore.I would probably list Indianapolis quarterbacks as Manning luck Harbaugh Trudo George and then Chandler! George was tremendously talented very mature later in his career he played much better!

Maybe Grant has been underwhelming but I will say, I bet you are basing your opinion of Grant in large part on his stat sheet.

During the preseason, the coaches care very little for most stats.  They probably look at drops and that's about it.  All they are looking at are things like, did the WR run the correct route, did he make his break at the correct time, did he use the proper technique when making the break, did they make the correct adjustment based on the D, did he find the right spot against zone.

Knowing that is what the coaches are looking at, and a lot more, and the coaches and Ballard are saying they are comfortable with the WRs then I will believe them until they prove they should not be believed.

True, certainly I am baseing it on 2 pre season games and what I have heard or read from camp! And yes Ballard has said he is comfortable, on the other hand isn’t he suppose to say that? I just see IMO a lost look on his face during the game and the same was stated during camp.  At this point no connection with Luck! Some of which could be becuase Luck is still finding himself. After having the same surgery twice on my throwing shoulder it’s understanable. I will keep an open mind, but at this point my hope is another receiver rises to the top if he can’t!

I disagree on this. I'm not sure why Grant stopped his route, but he didn't just jog it out lazily. He purposely stopped, and it makes me think he thought he was supposed to stop. We don't and won't know why, but I felt like there was a misunderstanding there.

Maybe Grant will step up and play well, maybe not, but I don't think we've seen enough to know whether he'll get it done or not. The only disappointment I have in him right now is him dropping two passes the other night.

    I am Underwhelmed by Grant!!

My WR coach who played In the AFL and trained everyday in the offseason with Larry Fitzgerald taught it as a combination of a bunch of things. Acceleration, not speed, is probably the most important thing. Being able to change your speed at different times of the route is what deceives the DB. Route running, which is cutting and fluidity in your running is also very important. Spatial awareness, like knowing where the open pockets are in a zone defense are is important. Then speed. It’s a combination of those 4 things I would say but a good receiver could get by with 3 of them.

Besides TY, I see Chester Rodgers has good acceleration, speed and route running. Haven’t really seen him play enough to judge his awareness.

This is correct just to add, acceleration and or deceleration out of cuts while running routes is key to. IE changing direction and or stopping smoothly and quickly. Without giving away the route.

Hines needs to step it up the last two preseason games.  Way to may drops.  He could be our second 4th. rounder cut in two years if he keeps losing the ball.

Agreed, although I think he makes it due to his skill set. I think they will give him some time to settle down hopefully.  If waived he will be claimed, I don't think he would make it to our practice squad.

Pretty good assessment.  There was a lot of player exchange with coaches looking at players so things look hectic at times. That is to be expected in 2nd game of pre-season. The cut date is getting close.

Agree we may have some unexpected cuts and be letting some decent players go at certain positions! Will be interesting at, rb, lb, ol, wr etc will be fun to watch!

  12. My Take,

    QB,

Luck as stated a little rusty, but there was some good. The IN, in the red zone was a fact of trying to hard and make something out of nothing. he saw the RB Michael make a move back inside but not continue the move. Still Lucks fault. Would like to see him throw deeper. I think coaching staff won't let him do it in pre season, and save it for the season.

Brissett, looked good, had arm strength, confident. Top 20 QB, hum noooo but but 25 to 32 maybe.

Walker threw an IN but I thought looked better than last year. Practice squad again?

    RB,

Michael looked OK, not really a fan but OK, Hines needs to hold onto the ball but ran the ball with some power inside, he is fast but it gets diminished because he has to overthink ball control. Wilkins looks good, he reminds me of Forte we might have a good one with him.

    WR,

Grant lol looks terrible. would like to see more Pascal, and Ishmael who you here nothing about from camp. Rodgers OK. the rest ahhhhh

    TE,

Mr Doyle is the same, Travis looked good, Ebran will be fine if they use him right. Swoope and others OK

    Tackles

I might be in the minority here but IMO Clark wasn't horribly other than his one missed assignment. I thought Smith for a rookie was OK. Thought Weeb was ok. Was unimpressed with Howard does he make the team? Haeg IMO is better than all of them but playing center?

    Guards

Nelson was mostly good there were a few plays not so much but he will get better. Slauson was ok, better as the game went along. I will have to watch again for the rest of the guys.

    Center

IMO Kelly played outstanding, him and Nelson could be a real force. Haeg was Ok .

    DL

Autry, Ridgeway, Hunt, Stewart, Woods, Simon

    The rest ahhhhh

    LB

Leonard has a chance to be really good, Moore, Adams, Franklin, looked alright

    S

Farley, Geathers, Good. Green OK, Odom flashed a little

    CB

I thought the best was Wilson, IMO the Starters should be Wilson & Desir who played ok to. Hairston and Moore should be the next 2.  I know Wilson doesn't practice well but when the light turn on so does he. Hard on a coaching staff though.

Kicking is fine punting fine except his one bad kick.

Coaching play calling is VERY Vanilla for Luck my hope is by design. play calling was much more aggressive for Brissett, Walker
