Agree but Basham is bigger and playing his natural position now. Simon is to small to play end. Sad but true. he will be picked up luckily if healthy.

Sigh. I assume Polian took Dungy's recommendation about defensive players more than he took them for offensive players, and relied more upon Moore for identifying those. That would be the proper way an executive would use their subordinate's expertise.
Did CP even lobby for Collins? If he had, maybe he would be here.
CP obviously did not put a comments in a suggestion box about wanting 2nd round talent for his defense. He pounded the table for a specific player.
Dude your grasping a straws and old straws at that. You nor I were in the room with them. We don't know who lobbied for who. Grigson sucked glad hes gone, A coach might look at some tape and say he looks ok. Grigson a good talent scout nope.

Would Irsay set up the organization in a way that RG was to supply CP with the players CP needed to run his defense, but then blame RG when CP is given the player CP advocated?
An owner would have to be stoned to set it up that way.
A coach tells a GM what types of players he needs to run his system. Its then the scouts and GM responsibility to bring in the talent. It seems you like RG and not CP. But the facts are RG gets the final say. I HIGHLY doubt that CP lobbied for Dorrest to be picked in round 1 when we had huge defensive needs and Landon Collins for instance on the board. I believe CP would have preferred a different player. RG strength was he was suppose to be a good talent evaluator IMO he wasn't, he was arrogant, and got to cute with picks like Dorrest when you had a guy with his skill set in TY.

The reality as a GM...the last word being "manager"...means to take the advice of your subordinates, especially in the areas of their expertise.
I assume that when the HC is evaluating players, his favorable recommendation weighs into the GMs decision. And Irsay would want to know who is actually responsible for evaluating the talent.
He would want a player more than the other guy. He wouldn't want to fire the wrong one.
Maybe some GMs are too nice and listen to their coach too much, or can't stand up to their pestering.
Ron Meyer wanted Dan Marino and not Tony Eason. He was told that his role was to coach the players he was given. That would be a situation where the full responsibility of the decision is on the GM. It doesn't sound like Irsay ever gave RG that level of responsibility.
I think he did, and honestly scouts probably have as much or more input than the head coach.

Well you would think with his skill set he might be claimed, but could still be a Colt. Hum interesting!!

Question If this is true does T J Green revert to the Colts IR list if hes not claimed?

Hope Walker ends up on the practice squad, like what I saw from him this pre season. Much improved from last year.

You aren't even aware Ballard didn't let Melvin go. Melvin made a CHOICE.
Pay attention, get a grip. And the odds are decent those ten games he played in last year were his Career year.
Melvin left because he didn't feel respected IMO!

I agree. I don't think Ballard is going to get much sleep this weekend.
Nope a lot of tough decisions, and some injuries not helping to boot.

I think Ballard has been good. Draft picks take time. I don't want him bringing in a bunch of over priced free agents that typically don't work out, the Colts are not close. We had a bad roster, its better now. The coaching search was well interesting, but I honestly think we ended with a better guy, and the right fit for the Colts! I think people who want IMMEDIATE RESULTS might be less than impressed. I have been a Colt fan for a long time, and have seen a lot of really bad years. We got spoiled with some really great years. I know Ballard has a plan, I am willing to see this thing out, and at this point be patient and believe in him an trust the plan.

Walker has been good. Much more confident good arm strength. I don't think he makes the team, but IMO easily makes the practice squad. Well earned this year!! I think thats a win for him and maybe the Colts too. I was not a fan last year, he has won me over none.

Happy for Bridgewater!! And New Orleans!

Except that almost all of Ballards higher round picks get injured, or suck.
His drafting has not been impressive in 2 seasons.
Hum I disagree!

Wow thats a while, I think you got to IR him. Whats wrong with his foot. Broken bone?
-
If he Ballard looks for guys I think he looks in this order.
1 LB
2 RB
3 CB
4 WR

Just like Joe Reitz, we need to start looking at TEs that come into the league as purely blocking TEs with a base level of athleticism for TEs (will end up working better for OL), ask them to put on weight and groom them to be OL on the PS. The dearth of quality OLs coming from the college level might want us to give some thought to that.
I think Joe Reitz was a basketball player.

Done easily if Slauson or Smith Handles right guard postion and Haeg stays at right tackle. Good is not as Consistent and isn’t good at Staying healthy.

I see both making the initial roster I think keep 6 CB's after adding Pipkins. I think Milton has shown improvement on D but his special teams play is what keeps him around.
Not a Milton fan playing defense not very good!

Not to be argumentative, but I don’t understand all of the love Haeg gets on here for his mediocrity??? None of our other mediocre linemen get the passes he gets. Case in point you’re saying he should be a starter at either tackle position. Based off of what? Guy clearly hasn’t earned the starting nod but you want to give him the job? That would be a sign that we’re in trouble... He’s our Swiss Army “backup” lineman not a penciled in starter.
Haeg IMO is a better player than meiocrity he very solid as a right guard or right tackle. With a solid player next to him I think he’s fine!!

Thought so, in which case we do not need him.
Was considered as a high value prospect guess not working out for him.

Agreed unforgettably Simon is really a lB not a DE hes giving up 20 pounds at least. I like Simon a lot. but he was not a long term guy there at DE.
