All I wanted to do is get a conversation going about Erlinger’s replacement.

I don't think there will be one.

Ehlinger is the 3rd string. Flacco is Minshews replacement as number 2. If both Richardson and Flacco are down for any amount of time the season is over anyways.

We will ride out Sam Ehlingers contract and then let him drift off to whoever wants him.

I mained Marth in Melee as well. I moved to Ike with Brawl, which was my last game. I really just played in some local and regional stuff.

I play Ultimate with my nephews once or twice a year. It's fun, but nothing beats the nostalgia of 64 or Melee.

I can never decide which I loved more, 64 or Melee.

64 for the pure nostalgia and it being the first.... Melee for really building on 64 and improving it. Such good games.

I was looking at the Colts depth chart on ourlads, and the team actually looks decent. We have a few needs, but we could probably fill them in the draft and have a solid team. Need a WR, EDGE, CB, S, backup RB, and maybe a TE. However, it's doable if you combine FA and the draft.

We're on track to actually have a solid team if we get aggressive and target a couple of these positions in FA, and fill the rest through the draft.

All so long as AR5 works out!

Which I am more optimistic of than the alternative, but it does all heavily hinge on that!

But I’m on record as saying I think Ballard’s seat is hotter than some think it is.  If things don’t get better soon, I can see Irsay throwing a fit like he did when he fired Frank.  Not saying this season, but sooner than some think.

Not to completely boil your post down to this, but I just wanted to reply to this specifically.

I could easily see Irsay letting Ballard go if we dont make the playoffs this season, bare minimum. I don't think that is a hot take at all anymore. It is finally put up or shut up time for Ballard.

For the record, I have always liked Ballard and his approach, i think he was severely hamstrung by the Luck retiring situation for a long time, but that hasnt been a valid excuse for a couple years now. I think he has been unlucky with the way some things have broken (I find it hard to believe that we dont win at least 1 more game last year if we had Isaiah Rodgers in the backfield - we were hemorhaging yards in the secondary last year - just one example). But it is absolutely no excuses, 100% put up or shut up time i think.

Is the depth we've added better than the depth last year? And young guys having another year doesn't necessarily equate to improving a team. Kind of feel were in the treading water phase

Keeping a consistent core is very arguably getting better. There isnt much of that i nthe league due to how free agency typically works and there is proven historical success for consistently running it back with core players. Especially when you consider that last season we nearly broke into the playoffs with Minshew at QB. Come on man. This is a good team.

It blows my mind how much of media and fans will push a narrative. For example, one media person said "Against the Rams, Ricardson was the best player on the field". hahaha Or called a "franchise QB" and "the next great Colts QB". Tell me this...based on what????  That he was drafted high? So where JaMarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf, and Akili Smith. That he is an athletic monster? So were Tim Tebow and Trey Lance.  Or, is it because he was drafted high, he has physical traits, and we are told that he will be those things?

So I suggest those who drink the Kool-Aid refer to Justin Fields. Similar player with much more experience in college.  A good runner for a QB who is inaccurate as a passer. But every year we hear "Oh, but he is progressing". Compared to who?  Fields got sacked 1 time out of every 9 passes.  Ok, they blame poor offense line.  But when Tyson Baggert, a college free agent who had to play as a rookie, started games, he was sacked 1 time out of every 29 passes.  So did the line suddenly get better?  Yet, there are STILL media people pushing that Fields has this great potention.  Come on, after three seasons, I think we know what he is.  An inaccurate, indecisive QB who can run. And new to the world. QBs are supposed to be PASSERS first.

Anthony Richardson seems like a good, hardworking guy. But I have little doubt he will be a bust as an accurate, decisive NFL QB.  He will run and that will make highlight films. He will have an ocassional nice pass or game. But overall, he will be a bust.

That is why I am praying the Colts resign Gardner Minshew.  Because he is and will always be a better NFL QB than Richardson.  Mark my words.  If we lose Minshew. we better draft another QB prospect like Michael Pratt and just hope he can be a Brock Purdy type gem, because Anthony Richardson is our Trey Lance. I guarantee it.

Im keeping this one saved, purely because you seem SO SURE he is a bust.

I want Richardson to succeed because I'm a Colts fan, but now I want him to succeed even more just to prove you wrong. This is a bad take that ultimately might end up being correct, but I dont't think for the reasons you are stating.

  7. I think both.

I really liked the look of Hull before he got injured last season, I think he takes a step up into that #2 role, or at least a timeshare with whoever #3 is until he is fully back up to speed if he isnt already.

And i think that doesnt stop us from drafting a RB in like the 4th or 5th and taking a swing on someone. Though i do hear that this is a bit of an iffy draft for RBs, so maybe we find one in FA still, but i think the aim here is for Hull to be RB2.

  8. Waiting for that outside CB signing announcment (as well as either a re-signing of Kenny Moore or also a vet slot CB replacement). Our DBs need an injection of talent / vet leadership in a bad way.

I dont want to impede the young guys from learning too much, but we cannot head into the draft with what we have now as our "vets".

My first thought is I see the FO doubling down on the WR position in the draft.

In the past when they’ve had a position of need they’ve ‘seemed’ to draft two from that position group.

Having said that I’ll wait until free agency to start discussing possible names at any position.

I will say this, Alec Pierce will have a better season with AR5’s arm strength than he had with Gardner.

I also hope they DON’T tag Pittman. I’m hoping they can sign him for less than 20mil a year!

To the bolded, that's just not happening.

If we had been negotiating a contract extension and he still had a few years left on his contract, maybe.... But the FA price tag will drive his price up closer to £22m - £23m per year I reckon. Still worth it for us, we need him (and another WR threat in general) in a bad way.

I think your concern is justified.

I would do what the 49ers did.  Go get the Colts a Brock Purdy.  Draft another QB in the 4th or 5 and sit him behind AR.

    Let Minshew go.

Then if AR fails or gets injured, let the new QB come in and win the job.

I would not put ALL of my eggs in the AR basket, just most of them.

Follow the 49ers Trey Lance/Brock Purdy model.

I'm not so sure that the Trey Lance / Brock Purdy model is one that the 9ers even themselves planned on themselves.... Brock Purdy was the literal last pick in the draft. If they thought so highly of him before they saw him practice and play and get to where he is now, why did they leave him until the last pick in the draft and risk losing him to someone else?

Hindsight is always 20/20 and they can say this was their plan all along, but come on, do you really believe that? That was a case of pure 100% luck for the 9ers.

One half of the sack duo is there.  Gotta get Mathis and Reggie there along with Adam when he comes up.

There is no way on god's green earth that mathis doesnt make the HoF. He was very arguably better than Freeney. The stats certainly say so, Freeney was just the first round pick, so always had the spotlight on him, Mathis had to earn his spotlight, which boy did he...

Both we awesome, im not dumping on Freeney at all, more just shining a light on Mathis here:

Per 16 games averages over their careers:

    Freeney:
    Tackles: 21
    Sacks: 9.4
    FF: 3.6
    (takeaways): 0.3

    Mathis
    Tackles: 33
    Sacks: 10.3
    FF: 4.3
    (takeaways): 1.5

If Mathis isnt in next year, we should all start a riot.

I'm probably in the minority but Richardson is mature enough to negate a mentor type veteran QB. You can see it in how he carries himself. Keep Sam and draft a later round QB. For example, Tua's younger brother Talia was denied another year of college eligibility and will probably be a day 2 pick if not 3. If AR works out, develop Talia and trade him later.

I don't think the maturity level that a vet backup QB brings is why they are mostly sought after for young QB's to develop. I'm sure it is a nice bonus if some of that maturity can rub off on a young buck QB who needs to grow up a bit, but I'm fairly certain their biggest asset to the team is the knowledge of the game that they bring and to help the young QB learn the playbook, how to read defenses and ultimately just help them break things down and learn the position.

If anyone was to surpass Manning, I'm OK with it being Maholmes.  I like the player and the guy.   He is as humble as can be for a QB with his success.

I think he isnt humble and he is a bit of a whiner actually.

Remember that offensive offsides call against the chiefs vs the bills (which the guy absolutely 100% was offsides, on offense.... like it wasn't even close), and Mahomes absolutely threw his toys out of the pram and blased the officials during the game and after, despite it clearly being the right call?

Then the altercation with Justin Tucker before the Ravens game, totally unecessary.

Mahomes thinks he's bigger and more important than everyone else, and it's starting to show through.

I personally think he is a smug and smarmy little baby man and while I dont think he is overrated, because he is ridiculously good at football, I don't like him as a person from what ive seen at all. As a person outside of that, I cant really say because I obviously don't know him personally, he might be a good dude overall, but I just dont buy the narrative that he is humble and a total saint.

I understand that, but I don't want to underpay for someone who will probably be starting a few games for the team.

This, especially while we have Richardson cheap. We can definitely attritbute some of that saved cap towards a good backup.

Not Jacoby Brissett levels that we paid for a backup, but certainly enough for one of the better backups in the league (which Minshew is).

  15. Sam E. ain't the one guys. I never understood the fascination with him on this forum.

He has done literally nothing, ever, to show me that he is the correct choice for the backup position. He couldn't beat out Eason for the backup gig for cheese's sake. The best option we could possibly have for a backup would be Minshew, assuming we could entice him to stay. Outside of that, the backup QB is not on the roster and we would either need to draft a new guy. or go get someone.

  16. So excited to see this team next year, so long as we make the right moves around AR and the OL stays intact.

I think Pierce would have had a much more productive season with AR throwing the ball. He was so much more willing to take the deep shots that Minshew was. Minshew missed an open AP so many times this season, I feel like AR is making the throw to AP more often than Minshew did.

Jelani Woods coming back next season could be huge for this offense too. Dont sleep on him.

AR will have watched and learned a lot from being on the sideline this year, and considering how we all though he wouldnt be mentally ready and then he came out and played like he did, I think we can expect him to be even smarter with the ball next year. We could absolutely be a sleeping giant for next season. I think the defensive backfield absolutely needs addressing though.

Have seen it. My wife is a medical provider, and has strong feelings on the state of healthcare. There are a lot of suits and not enough white coats.

St. Vincent Indianapolis is now controlled in St. Louis. There are bean counters in Missouri telling the doctors in Indiana how to practice medicine.

Yeah the insurance companies telling doctors how to practice medicine in particular is just pure insanity.

I live in the UK (I have dual nationality) and you can say the NHS is flawed (which is it), but id take this slow flawed machine over the US system 100/100 times.

Painkillers are vastly overprescribed. I once received an addiction-inducing amount by a urologist after I had a kidney stone. I took maybe two and disposed of the remainder, as they weren't needed. The next urologist I went to gave me one on my next encounter... One.

Some doctors are just out of their minds when it comes to overprescribing pain medication.

Go watch Painkiller on Netflix. There is a reason they are overprescribing them, and it is disgusting. The US healthcare system is disgusting and frankly we should all be ashamed of ourselves for letting it get to this state.

I’ve been putting a lot of thought to this just thinking about it how come Pittsburgh has never had a losing season. Why was the New England so good for so many years? Why is San Francisco always competing for championship? It’s because they have great owners that their general managers on the team. Great coaching from the entire staff and steller scouting. Rarely missing on draft picks

The 9ers went through a lenghty stinky period where they were bad (2003 - 2010) with a 3 year decent bump, then bad again from 2014 - 2018).

The Patriots are a couple years into their stinky period and they will be bad unless they get incredibly lucky. (We all know why they were perenially in the playoffs, and he no longer plays in the NFL).

The Steelers are LUCKY to have made the playoffs this year, they still won 10 games, but they were lucky to get in. Tomlin is a good head coach, they just need a QB and they are sorted. This is the only team that I will grant you has been continuously good for coaching and management reasons.

The last time they had a losing season was 2003 (literally 20 years ago) and that was 6 - 10, not even a total flame out, and the last time the had a WORSE than 6-10 record was 1988 and that was 5-11.

The truly last time the Steelers FLAMED out and had a season worse than 5-11 where you could say that they really sucked, was aaaaaaaaallllllll the way back to 1969 when they went 1 and 13.

@jskinnz your posts always make sense, but I’m having trouble with this one.  I totally agree that the  Bradley D gives up waaaay too many 3rd and longs.

But I don’t see how you can take his personnel out of the equation.  To me, it’s a matter of trust in balancing the aggressiveness of  the D.

Was Flus any better?  IMHO, he was worse.

To the bolded (and to nod to South Park), the choice between a Turd Sandwich and a Giant * ain't really much of a choice.

My point is, we can do better than BOTH of them.

Going to be a tough season at home next year.

Boy I hope Anthony Richardson can come back and stay healthy, cause we need a starting QB not names Minshew, if we want to make the playoffs.

The schedule of very good / Great QB´s count Allen, Tua, Rodgers, Jennifer Lawrence, Goff, Stroud and most likely Caleb Williams... so AR needs to be back for us to have a chance i most games.

Love was starting to develop into something this season, he may be in the very good column by the time we face them next year.... depends.

Cousins will be back for the Vikings too and he is capable of putting a team on his back and winning a game singlehandedly. Not as consistently as others, but he can do it too. Could be a sneaky really tough schedule next year.
