  1. Same here with me and the Colts. Although I do agree with Virludant that this team with Luck is very likeable and hard to hate. And I have always loved Reggie.

Obviously this is slightly biased, but Luck is a special kid and yeah I think it is hard not to like him. He is so humble and appreciates the game, it's not about him either it's about the team. He even gives defenders props when they sack him or tackle him down, how can you not like this guy?

The power of the neck beard holds many secrets....

  2. Okay we made Alex Smith look like Emmitt Smith - I don't think I'll worry about that this coming game. But Smith looked comfortable most of the night and basically looked like, well, Tom Brady. So my question - what can we do differently to make Tom look like Marsha Brady?

Smith looked anything but comfortable that game! He was CONSTANTLY pressured and chased and he had to make so many tackles miss it was ridiculous that we didnt get at least 4 sacks on him... Brady isnt that manoeuvrable so I expect the QB pressure to be a bit more successful against the Pats... Brady will just be releasing it quicker to Amendola and Edelman though. our DB's HAVE to cover those short and crossing routes effectively whilst not letting anyone blow over the top...

  3. I feel like Robert Mathis isn't getting enough love for his amazingly timed strip-sack fumble of Smith in the Chiefs game. AGAIN he comes up clutch and delivers that game changing moment and momentum change that we needed. Again he changes the game for us and yet still he is overshadowed by the offense (even if it was an amazing effort in the 2nd half).

Mathis deserves so much more credit for this win...

  4. Lets be realistic. Rogers had a GREAT breakout game a few weeks ago but lets not get too ahead of ourselves... Most of his yardage in that game was on that ridiculous breakout run. No guarantee he rips off another of those.

Id say 4 catches for about 50 yards or so... Maybe a TD in there....

  5. I'm just waiting for the game where Donald Brown gets 20+ carries like he deserves this year

That could very well be this week against the Chiefs if he plays....

He probably would have been given those 20+ against Houston if he didnt come out injured in the 1st half. We are going to have to control the clock and keep Jamaal Charles off the field as long as possible in this game so DB and T Rich have some big roles to fill this weekend.

This is a very important game for two reasons. 1 being that if we can beat KC it will show that we havent lost that ability to take down the big boys, depleted as we are due to injuries etc. 2 being that is we win and get some help like we did last weekend, we are in the drivers seat for the 2nd seed with JUST the Jags left to play! @ Home!

I like those odds because stranger things have happened...

  6. I think the Colts will win a close game 24-21. This Texan team is going to turn a corner eventually and play up to their potential. If that defense really gets going and putting lots of heat on Luck, it could be different. I expect a great game from J.J. Watt.  :D

That Texans D is a completely different animal without Cushing. Sure JJ Watt is a beast, no denying that. But they are not what they used to be.

  7. OK so Brazill DNP yesterday and is now in a boot.  Are all the naysayers still so sure about not giving Branch a chance?  Or if not Branch then they better bring Whalen back up.  Still another day of practice so I guess we will see if he can go tomorrow.

Brazill AND Pep have both downplayed the boot as a precaution for Brazill. Obviously practicing tomorrow would be reassuring but if they are both saying that it isnt as serious as it looks then I can take that at face value....

Unless we definitely lose another WR to injury I am definitely against bringing in another player at this point in the season.... It's just too desperate a move at this point. No time for them to learn the playbook or develop chemistry with the QB. It would make far more sense to bring someone up from the practice squad now.

Especially as the person who was worked out hasnt played a down since 2012.....

  8. I am saying that we should rest our players after the third quarter. That's not unheard of. Especially as teams approach the playoffs, and have their division wrapped up. What I am saying is not something so radical that it's never been done before. Many teams start to rest their players and protect them from injury before the playoffs.

I would agree with this except for one thing....

The kinds of teams that rest their players heading into the playoffs tend to be well oiled machines that are running smoothly on both sides of the ball.... We do not in any way constitute that sort of team right now. We need to get as much playing time in as possible to figure out the slow starts, to improve the O line play, to improve the D.... Otherwise we are going to be going into the playoffs underprepared and likely to lose...

I hate using this old mantra that my teachers in school always used to bark at me but it is so applicable I have to use it:

Fail to prepare and prepare to fail...... It really is that simple at this point....

  9. I like Trent.

He is a great blocker and rarely misses assignments. He obviously needs more time to fully learn the playbook and soak up all the nuances of our offence, but all things considered I honestly don't think he has played too badly. He is starting to shake off a lot of tackles and burst for some yardage. He has been great catching the ball and is a real valuable asset to our pass protection.

Obviously he is a RB though and the yards per carry and consequently yards per game needs to increase, but that will come with time. He is on his 3rd offence in less than 2 years for gods sake.... He spent his whole rookie season learning one playbook just to have that thrown out the window at the end of last season and learnt an ENTIRELY new one in OTA's and the preseason. He then had to throw that one out the window as well when he joined us and learn ANOTHER playbook and scheme... oh, and he had to start games for us at the same time as well... not even a single week to sit and absorb information... It was inevitable that he was going to struggle... I think it is best that he is backing up D. Brown to be used in a limited capacity that he is more comfortable with so that he can be effective AND learn the playbook at a comfortable rate so that he actually LEARNS it... Give him the off-season and I bet you he comes in next season like a bat out of hell, supposing the offensive scheme stays the same. (which for the record I think it should).

In summary, give T Rich time and he will produce....

  10. Even if we win out it is almost a certainty that we will be locked into the 4th seed. Meaning we are more than likely going to be playing the Chiefs at the Luke come January in the Wild card round.

I think Luck and the starters should play all 60 minutes of every game for the following reasons:

These three games are going to/should be used as essentially three rather large practice sessions for the playoffs because we are pretty much locked into that 4th seed. One of those games will be against who we are most likely going to be facing in the first round of the playoffs, at their place. This will be a great time to test the waters with them, at their place, in order to figure out what to do in January when WE will have the homefield advantage over them. *(IF)* we get hot in the next three weeks and then beat the Chiefs in the wild card round, who knows what can happen from there? (See the '12 Giants and '13 Ravens)...

Regardless of what happens in the playoffs, these games are going to be huge learning curves for Hamilton/Manusky. Without the pressure of playing for the division, they can/should start experimenting with different play calling and schemes from their current ways to see what works and doesnt with our personnel as it stands. Seeing as injuries are part of the game, it is fair to assume that next season we could potentially lose important key players again. This time will help them to deal with those situations when they come next year.

Finally, the colts starters should be playing and playing to win because damnit what is the point of playing this game if not to be competitive and win?! You never know, the Bengals and NE could lose out from here and we could claim the 2nd seed.... ANYTHING can happen in the NFL. For gods sake, Triplette's call actually happened, if that can happen...... anything can happen.

  11. (sorry for the essay of a reply here.....)

I couldnt have put it much better myself, however there are one or two things to note.

I agree entirely with the coaching not adapting to opposing offenses and defences, Manusky and Hamilton have been making some questionable decisions this season and it is certainly cause for concern. However whilst it is not an excuse to keep blindly playing the same schemes, injuries have seriously seriously crippled this team this season. Do not underestimate the loss of Dwayne Allen to this offense as well as the loss of Thornton. Allen is a fantastic blocker and makes a huge difference to our passing game in terms of protecting luck and catching the ball and making plays downfield. Fleener has done very well picking up the slack but he just cannot block with the same efficiency and skill that Allen can. The thinning of our O line has made it go from distinctly average to downright awful. The reason I am slightly defending Hamilton here is that before all of the key injuries, our offense was producing, and producing well. When we get key players back next season I am genuinely excited to see what this offense can really do. Obviously adjustments should be being made, but I am happy for Hamilton to stick around to figure this out.

I am much more worried about our defensive side of the ball. Looking at Vontae Davis, I am seriously worried that Grigson is going to offer him a lot of money and considering his play since the Denver game, he really does not deserve it. I think he needs to have a Aqib Talib/Domonique Rogers Cromartie prove it single year deal in order to hopefully come out a bit more and play to his potential. I think we overspent in the off season on some D linemen and linebackers that cannot and have not set the edge this season and miss a lot of tackles. If not for Freeman and Redding and Mathis, our D line and linebackers would probably be the worst in the league. Walden, Shepherd, Angerer and Conner are inconsistent to say the least...

The DB's started the season rather well and I was especially surprised with Butlers play, he is absolutely great in the nickel but when he is forced to start for Toler and Vaughn/Gordy, he doesnt quite stack up against players like AJ Green and Andre Johnson etc. Injuries in the secondary have absolutely destroyed our ability to play man coverage which is basically the backbone of our DB's play.... Until we get everyone back healthy Manusky needs to figure that out pronto... Which I havent seen any signs of happening unfortunately...

I think there is still hope for this post season, there have definitely been signs of improvement over the last 5 games. I can see the final three weeks being used to figure it all out in times for the playoffs... you never know, we could get hot in the next three weeks at exactly the right time, the offense showed signs of coming to life on some drives last week... just figure out those slow starts and we are more than halfway there.

  12. I think that Werner has definitely at times looked a little lost so far this season at the OLB position, but having said that I think he is starting to find his feet. He showed some, and I mean only some, improvement in the Bengals game, which is positive. Before last Sunday I was not all that high on Werner. His batted down pass was great reactions and had he not made that play we couldve given up a lot of yardage.

I think he will still take some time to fully adjust but I think he is going to start coming good. Maybe not this season, but over the course of the off-season and OTA's I think he will start rounding into form.

Now if Adongo can continue to progress at the rate that he is seemingly progressing, hopefully by the end of next season we will have two legit pass rushers to replace #98.
