Not like I was expecting him to be a stud his rookie year! He did have some hype of being a great man to man corner though. I feel that CB is one of the hardest positions to come into as a rookie. He was also hurt a lot last year. It's not all his fault.

I do get what you are saying. He was however, pretty terrible. Just because I say he was terrible doesn't mean I think he is a bad player. Just saying exactly how his play was last season in my opinion. It's hard to know what to expect from him this upcoming season!

Actually, most scouts/media types questioned whether Smith would be able to fit in in a Pro-level M2M coverage scheme, mostly due to him playing almost exclusively off the LOS, and his lack of top-end speed when covering deep routes..... coupled with a bit of lower-level college competition stigma

  2. No biggie, but Smith's first name is D'joun.... no R.  I hope he fights for that 3rd slot this year as well.... Smith was terrible last year?  He was a rookie, at a position that is traditionally rough for rookies to transition into, and he played all of what, 4 games?  Seems like he warrants a judgement of "incomplete" for last season much more than one of "terrible"

Like many Vikes fans, I am not a big fan of Norv. I am thankful that he was the one who encouraged the team to draft Teddy, but Teddy does not fit his offensive scheme. In addition, Norv's play-calling is too predictable, running the ball on first and second down on almost every set of downs. That leaves us in third and long a lot.  It is frustrating.

I am hoping that this year the Vikings take the shackles off Teddy and allow him to shine as I expect him to. :)

To be fair, if your RB is Purple Jesus, you SHOULD run on first and second down on a large percentage of your plays.....lol

I'd love to see him and sio start at ILB one is good in coverage and the other is a good run blocker plus Irving I'd better in coverage then Jackson is

Irving is better in coverage?  Irving has 4 deflections in his career......  Jackson has multiple years of 6-7 deflections and 1 or 2 INT's.....

It's even more of a crapshoot from the coaches' perspective.  Think about being Rex Ryan or Jason Garrett.  They draft these guys that could be defensive studs in 2 years.  But if the team doesn't perform well THIS year, they might not be the head coach by the time these "studs" are healthy enough to play.

I think Grigson and Pagano can feel how hot their seats are, and said to themselves "I might not even BE here next year, we need guys that are healthy and can help us win NOW!"  It's kind of a catch-22, because if Green ends up being a major contributor this year, it will either be because of an injury to Geathers, or Geathers will regress and need to be replaced, which doesn't reflect well on Grigs or Pagano...

Unless, of course, Green is our FS of the future, and Geathers is our SS of the future, and Adams gets hurt, and the two "G's" (holy cow I really like that.  Green and Geathers, the "2 Gs", we got a couple of Gs in our secondary) ball out and become the best safety tandem in the NFL for the foreseeable future... :clover:

Pretty sure the plan actually is to have Geathers as SS, where he has been basically, though he has played both SS and FS he's listed as a SS and has great size at 6-1 215....4.55 40 time...... T.J. Green is 6-2 209 and can play either Safety position with 4.34 40 time..... he has a lot less experience at S, but if our future second level pans out..... look out

  6. I understand arm length makes a difference, but is it really THAT much harder for a rusher to evade a 36 inch reach than it is A.Q. Shipley's 29 inches?  Must be, but it seems Von Miller could make up a 7 inch difference....  I dunno

It's been a tough off-season for Luck. He got along really well with Fleener and Whalen, who are no longer with the Colts. And aside from his Stanford teammates, he got along well with Holmes. I'm sure he has other friends on the team, but this has to be a little heart breaking for him. He'll be fine however.

Although he will now have better protection, he is learning the business side of the NFL.

His dad ran an entire league in Europe for a short time, and was GM of 2 different European teams...  he knows the business side of pro sports sometimes gets in the way of friendships....

He runs faster than a lot of SS I haven't seen a 240lb SS. Have you watched tape even the stuff Krunk posted? No pass rush skills? He knows he needs to add weight

Perkins: "I feel like in pass rush, the way I set up my moves during the game, over the course of a game and really breaking it down to the details. And watching film on my opponent really gives me an advantage all week. I just feel that my preparation puts me at an advantage every week."

What is one aspect of your game that you are looking to improve between now and April?

Perkins: "I feel like I need to gain weight". I'm not sure you know what position I'll be playing. I hope I'm pass rushing and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be playing a 3-4 linebacker spot. But I just need to gain weight. The NFL is the next level, everyone there is bigger, faster, stronger so that's what I need to do."

I hopei'm way off, and I like him as a UDFa

Please explain how we are set at ILB ... I just don't it see a few guys coming of major injuries and old man rivers then a few camp bodies  / maybe bottom of roster just for depth because we have nobody better

You may not like the guys we have at ILB, but Jackson will start, we signed Irving who should be healthier this year, drafted Herrera who looked to have potential at least in a rotation, we traded our 6th this year for Sio Moore, again, potential and some experience, and we have Sylvestre, a highly recruited UDFA from last year....  we have depth if not pro-bowlers, so the better value relative to our current roster may be in other positions....
