If I thought Chubb would be like Freeney or Mathis than I would say forget Barkley. I don't though. Do you think Chubb can be that?

That seems to be the issue with this draft.

    - Is Chubb a great pass rusher worth the # 3 pick?

    - Can't take a RB & waste the value

    - Can't take a G & waste the value

    - Is Fitzpatrick a C or a S?

    - Don't need a QB (knock on wood)

So if the Colts can't trade down, and still get a 'top player' (that isn't worthy of # 3 overall), they still gotta do something...

    Quote

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said during a radio interview this week that the team has had a difficult time improving its defense because it gave quarterback Andrew Luck a new $140 million contract during the offseason.

"We have a defense that is work in progress," Grigson said on Fox Sports Radio. "When you pay Andrew what we did, it's going to take some time to build on the other side of the ball."

He hasn't done anything, I mean he hasn't even signed a contract yet. Ridiculous. Irsay should fire him before he hires him.

The way it looks, he'll have to fire himself, after he hires himself. Now that's delegating authority!

Furthermore Irsay wouldn't have allowed him to do a press conference if he was firing him.

If he was going to fire Pagano or Grigson he would have done so by now.

Caldwell was retained until Grigson was on board in 2012. Not saying Irsay IS looking for a new GM & giving them input on whether to keep the coach or get a new one, just that he has done it before.

It's pretty simple. You will have to wait at least a year for a rookie center to be ready to play in the NFL.

    That's not a given.

However, I agree with your thinking on a couple of other fronts; wanting a younger, less expensive option than Mack, and filling the need via FA if possible...

Bottom line is this:  we can't have the same O line, if we do, then I hope Andrew has a good life insurance policy.

    Irsay agrees:

Irsay likes LT Castonzo, RG Mewhort, RT Good "but we have to be looking inside ... get another couple young offensive linemen, no question."

  7. Dunno but it's not the same guy we watched last year. I think it was Jerome Pathon that could never stop letting the ball into his body. Him or Sean Dawkins.... I think Pathon.

Yep -- that was Jumpin' Jerome Pathon

  8. Oh, I didn't know. What an outrageous thing to be able to trademark, but maybe I just think that because I'm not from US?

Gene Simmons has a patent on the term "axe" when applied to a guitar or bass.

Apparently Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn has filed a trademark application for the phrase "Hurry Up No Huddle". Seems it might be becoming a popular thing to do in the college ranks?

  9. The two things I think I've yelled the loudest at over the years of watching Colts games:

    1) The other team's D giving one of our guys "the business" at the tail end of / after a play

(My buddy & I both stood up & yelled "HEY!!!" at the exact same time on that one. Stereo protest.)

    2) Walt Coleman's non-calls on the Patriots' "Grab-A-Colt" defense in the 2003 AFCCG

  10. i think this is a case of the Colts making up their mind before Reggie has made up his or else they would have announced Reggie is retiring.

I agree. The wording - "We feel this decision is in the best interests of the team and for Reggie as it will allow him to seek a better opportunity for playing time elsewhere if he so chooses." - is the NFL equivalent of "you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here".

  11. The thread title reminded me of this scene from "The Jerk"... apologies in advance   :ninja:

But back to football... as other posters have pointed out, there are too many areas of need to fill with enough quality players to approach any kind of perfect, ideal team with no weaknesses (IMO). Just acquire the best players you can that fit the scheme and fill a need however you can and roll with it.

  12.

I have no idea what I'm doing...

Me neither. But I had fun nevertheless! :)
