I pretty much agree except that the correlation between drinking and gambling addictions is not valid.

People with gambling problems are more prone to criminal activity

My concern, is we just don't know the cost for doing this.  People see dollar signs and figure that's good enough.

It's true that some communities have been helped.  It's also true that other communities have improved without gambling. https://govinfo.library.unt.edu/ngisc/reports/7.pdf

I tend to think the latter is the wiser course

Much of this came about, I believe because Atlantic City wasn't doing well.  They figure sports gambling will give them the boost they need. But, Atlantic City, like Vegas or Reno are unique.  They are tourist destinations.

I'll keep an eye on gambling on sports spreading beyond that.

It was to point out that addiction isn't confined or eliminated by outlawing the activity. If that was the case, there wouldn't be gambling addicts in the US.

If smart regulation is drawn up, there will be a licensing for companies offering gambling just like over here.

They'll have to be taxed, and some of the proceeds could be used to fund education and treatment of addicts. Just like it is over here. There are "Bet responsibly" campaigns, just like the "Drink responsibly"/don't drink and drive campaigns.

Make sure that they can't offer credit to customers.

We can argue over how much "choice" people have, when it comes to these things.

Reality is that some people make bad choices with regards to gambling, drugs, alcohol and a lot of other things.

Will legal gambling turn millions of people into gambling addicts? I find that highly unlikely.

Will it make it easier for those who are addicts? Maybe, but only to a degree. These people gamble as it is, but use shady bookies that'll be happy to extend them credit until they're in the red and then pile on obscene interest rates with the threat of violence.

I think things have changed, just perhaps not for you.

I don't think we should brush this off as no big deal.

Here, the more pay day loan stores and  cut rate mobile phone providers you see in a neighborhood, the poorer the neighborhood.  I'll lay odds that soon we'll also see bookies, pawn shops  and not much else.

Making it legal to place a bet on an NFL or MLB game, doesn't exclude all regulation of the gaming industry.

It doesn't mean that they should have no restrictions on, say, Data harvesting, predatory loans etc.

The fact that some people have ruined their lives gambling, is hardly an argument against gambling. It's like banning beer because some people ruin their lives by drinking more than they should.

Gambling addicts have always gambled, it just used to be through bookies that would break their arms if they didn't pay what they owed. A legal gambling establishment would for instance not be allowed to offer credit here in Europe. You place money on an account, and when the balance on the account is 0, you can't place a bet.

  3. People can rig games. They always had that option. Nothing has changed. It will still be illegal

People can gamble. They always had that option. Nothing has changed, except the fact that it will be legal.

Excessive gambling can ruin lives. That was always the case. Nothing has changed.

Reality is, that in countries all over the world, mine included (Denmark), people have been legally able to place bets on sports since forever. There are no more gambling addicts here, than in the US.

In the unlikely scenario that happens who do you take?

Couldn't tell you with certainty at this point.

Dex Lawrence, Chris Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell, Rashan Gary, Ed Oliver, Bosa the younger and Raekwon Davis could be candidates. Lot of defensive talent at the top of next years draft. But lots could happen over the course of a season with injuries etc. But we'll see.

  5. Gimme some of these..

    Godwin Igwebuike, S, Northwestern

    Tegray Scales, ILB, Indiana Hoosiers

    Trenton Thompson,DT, Georgia

    Jeff Holland, Edge, Auburn

    Hercules Mata'afa, Washington St.

    JC Jackson, CB, Maryland

    Holton Hill, CB, Texas

    Levi Wallace, CB, Alabama

    Tavarus McFadden, CB, Florida St.

    Skai Moore, LB, South Carolina

    Matthew Thomas, LB, Florida St.

    Brett Toth, OT, Army

Depth and special teams, and a surprise or two

  7. I want Hernandez. If nothing else, just to watch this forum to explode.

Would actually be a great player to add to our roster, but doubt he'll make it past the Giants. Also doubt Ballard will pick back to back guards.

I'll gladly admit I was one of the detractors last night as far as the Nelson pick.  But after the draft I can whole heartedly say taking Nelson was the best thing we could've done.  No way could I have predicted that the NFL would take 4 guards over corners and edge rushers.  That is flat out insane and kudos to Ballard for doing the homework and knowing his chances of getting a good guard we're very slim in the 2nd.

I was on Team Nelson all along, so I loved the pick.

However, I think you can still get a good guard in the second round of this years draft. And I would be very tempted to pull the trigger if Hernadez is not picked up when we're on the clock.

I would replace Ward with McGlinchey, at least for the Colts.

I wouldn't be upset if we traded with the Bills and grabbed McGlinchey.

If we spent the other first rounder on Hernandez, I would be more than fine with that.

Would go a long way towards fixing our O-line for years to come.

I think we’ll leave SAM alone this year with Simon and Walker there.  Going into the draft, Najee Goode is the starter at Mike, and Jeremiah George starts at Will. We need to get starters at both the latter spots in the draft, though I think George is a good sleeper for us.

The guy I really want is Darius Leonard, who would fit either of those spots.  Roquon would fit the Will particularly well (if Chubb is gone).  And guys like Shaquem Griffin and Orem Burks would be good mid round options.  I’d also have to seriously consider Rashaan Evans at Mike if he fell to us in the 2nd...

I honestly can't see Evans not being picked in the first round. If he's available at 36, it's a no-brainer.

Darius Leonard would be fine in the third round.

  11. I'm hoping for Nelson at 6. If not him, then Chubb.

If they're gone, I hope we trade down with either Bills or Miami.

your price seems a little high to me. Not that I would complain if they offered it.

A first and a third this year + first next year, and I would be thrilled.

Or add our pick at 67 and get their pick at 42.

We get 11 and 42 this year + 1st round next year.

    They get 6 this year.

I have to admit, the announcement that Simon being moved to DE, was a bit of a surprise

I had Simon penciled in at SSLB

He WAS our best player on defense last year......

It also means that we have THREE spots to fill at LB in the offseason

I have sort of been leaning toward taking Chubb the last week or so if he is available, but.... now....

I dont know ............. (Chub will already be gone by 6 I believe)

I dont see anyone on this team that can play (as a starter)... at LB.....  in the new faster, defense

Morrison has a chance to be SSLB, but he isnt fast.......  I dont see it

    This is a BIG challenge

I think that we will need to get 2 of the three from the draft, and try to fill 3rd spot with a trade or FA pick up (there will be some still to be released in camp)

You may be one of those that say BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE.........   I "sort of" agree

As the great philosopher, Bill Murray says..... "its more of a guidline, than a rule"

If BPA was a QB, we wouldnt go that way........   If the BPA was a kicker at round 1, we wouldnt go that way.... so the pure BPA choice, isnt reality,

more like BPA, within spots of most need

When you have the painful level of needs that this Colts team has........ you can do this, alittle easier

So......... mini mock draft here (No trade.......  I think its 50/50 at this point)

    6th Edmunds MLB

    36 -  Price G/C

    37 -  Carlton Davis CB

    49 - PENNY - RB

67- Malik Jefferson - OLB (WSLB)

    100th - Brown OT (RT)  - I hope he lasts til 4th

For 1 of my later picks, I would be picking up a bigger SS that I might try at WSLB (or keep as depth for our often injured SS)

This approach puts the best MLB prospect in the draft on the Colts

It fills one of the guard spots that can also move to center if needed.... and dominates the DL person accross from him

Carlton Davis is PERFECT for the defense we want to play

Keep your fingers crossed, but this MIGHT yield .... might  6 starters  (I would be happy with 5)

Or I could be wrong :)

    Deano

We need linebackers for sure. However, this is not a draft I would hope for.

If we stay at 6, we have to pick either Nelson or Chubb. If they're gone, we have to trade down IMO.

Price with a partly torn pec at 36.. Not entirely sure I would pull the trigger on that.

    Wouldn't pick a CB at 37, and wouldn't pick Penny at 49.

Malik Jefferson wouldn't be bad. Plenty of upside there.

Orlando Brown - Wouldn't pick him. Full stop. I think he's going to get destroyed by NFL-calibre players. His lack of athleticism just won't work in the NFL.

I think there's a chance to grab Josey Jewell in the 4th round. That would be fine by me.
