  1. I love how people know the word 'Nepotism' and thus they assume they know what it's all about. They also assume it's always a bad thing, or that it's done with ill, almost conspiratorial intentions.

    nepotism

    nep·o·tism (nebreve.gifpprime.gifschwa.gif-tibreve.gifzlprime.gifschwa.gifm)

    n.

Favoritism shown or patronage granted to relatives, as in business.

Sounds to me not only was the use of the word by CFINY proper, but the context with which it was used directly applies to the Situation in the Colts front office. I dont know why you would have an issue with his post, unless you are expressing your personal dislike for CFINY and letting that cloud your judgement.

  2. NO... I respect Irsay. I am optimistic for the future, but I cannot support what I see on the field.

I am confused. You support Irsay, so since you dont know him personally, you support his team that you watch and root for, but you dont support what you see on the field, which is the team owned by Irsay.........

Strange things are afoot in the official forum.

  3. Not going to be rant thread, or a 50 page over analysis. Full disclosure, I am just a fan, and not a professional:

Tampa 2 style of cover 2 defense is a system based on the philosophy that keeping everything in front of the DB's cuts down on big plays, and forces the offense to execute 12 play drives without error in order to score. "Bend but dont break." We have all heard that.

My problem with this system is that in today's NFL, the offenses, offensive personel, quarterbacks, and schemes are infinitely more capable of passing the ball 12-15 times under the shell for medium yardage without making a mistake. If the pass rush is nuetralized, the tampa 2 has ZERO chance of success.

On the other hand, if your pass rush is working even nominaly, then the offense will take advantage of the fact that you are dropping LB's deep into coverage, and your undersized, fast, defensive lineman have no chance to stop 5 offensive lineman, a TE, and a fullback at the point of attack. So essentially, its death by 5-7 yard increments, all the way down the field, and the clock gets eaten away along with the teams ability to have enough possesions to score enough.

Death by pass, Death by run, its all death just the same.

In summation, ANY defense that is based on the idea that giving up yardage in order to save yardage(assuming the tackle would even be made) is flawed, outdated, and frequently exposed by todays pass happy, and well executing offenses.

  4. Ahhh, yes, but lets bury our head in the sand as coaches and continue to drop back into that lovely tampa two, run the same garbage DB's(other than Bethea, who is the best form tackler I have ever seen) out there and keep telling dwight and Rob its ok to completely disregard stopping the run as they line up 9 technique and fly by the pocket every bleeding time leaving everyone else susceptible to the draw, screen, and off tackle run. Yeah, That will stop them!!! ??? :dunno:

  5. Though I share your desire for a better defense. We can't switch to a 3-4 scheme in just one off season. It will take several years to draft the personnel required to make a proper transition. Manning doesn't have that much time. It would be easier to switch to a base 4-3 and to concentrate on trying to improve the secondary so that we can play better man coverage.

I used to think this until I saw what has gone on in houston....that defense is hand over fist better than last year. Just need the right coaches to make it happen. We dont even have to swith the a 3-4, just stop running the godawful tampa 2 forever please.

  6. i am more concerned because we haven't invested the high draft picks on defense or brought in the free agents to really make the thing go.

Thats true, we havent. Its a vicious circle of addressing major needs with untalented, UDFA's because our mega QB can make up for a small, fast, porous defense. Now they see the error in that philosophy. But my lord we need 20 draft picks in the first four rounds and 3 years to fix it......ugh.
