  1. I consider your lack of knowledge about our team and what we were trying to achieve not a small mistake. Bill doesn't decide if we run a 4-3, 3-4, west coast, power offense. The coaches do....Bill finds players to fill the skills the coaches wanted. Tony Dungy was a tampa 2 guru...he VALUED smaller, faster players that would fit his defense...do you want larger/slower corners trying to play in space??? No that is dumb. They wouldn't have fit Tony's system...same for a big brute LB that couldn't drop back in zone. We also knew that the coach was a defensive minded and should be able to maximize the potential of his defense while our true superstars were on the offensive side (Manning and Harrison and James). We built an offense to maximize Peyton's potential. To get the most out of your super star you try to give them weapons. There is a balance and if you look closely at what we did we were pretty balanced with our drafting of offense and defense with varying degrees of success. Bill selected a number of great defensive guys...I'm not saying he was perfect...we can all point out the failures...and yes the last couple years when it became time for a change. We aren't saying it wasn't ok to go another direction..it was needed...but your viewpoint seems very shallow and short sighted. That said my opinions are no more valued than yours but the fact we retained Bill for so long and he was awarded many times for his leadership and widely praised within the football community for his ability are in stark contrast to your views of him.

look dude the defense sucked and that was largely pollians fault, yeah dungy insisted on tampa 2 but bill couldve said change it or get out its not working WHEN YEAR AFTER YEAR IT SUCKED AND SHOWED IN THE PLAYOFFS WHEN MANNING WASNT RUNNING UP THE SCORE BOARD. I think mr irsays interview prior to the broncos game was indicative of that, is his knowledge of the game a mistAKE?

for the record early on bill was pretty good from 97-2005 but his successes from that period hid a lot of his flaws later on and hiring his son didnt help, i dont think he was horrible but i didnt agree with some of his philosophies and lack of importance to defense he was alright id give him 7/10 decent

  2. Yes, you won a playoff game. You survived an absurd three pick game by your new QB, gave up 40 points and still managed to win. I don't think the Colts are ahead of anything. They just happen to play in the weakest division in the NFL. It won't be so easy this year. Houston could easily win that division.

if youre a colts fan why are you refering to other fans as "you", "they" as a fellow fan shouldnt you say we won , we did etc? i just feel like you have some reason to pretend youre a fan but youre not idk

  3. You think he's the only GM to ever build a small defense?

And I didn't call it a small one.

The point is to see the Big Picture.    And the man has been a great GM everywhere he's been.

Everywhere.    Including Indianapolis.     Again,  that's a fact,  not an opinion.

obviously the only reason we had a winning record was because peyton and not because pollian, fact

  4. Bill Polian is a 6-time winner of the NFL executive of the Year award.    6-times!

Not sure any other GM is even remotely close.     Someday, the award may even be named for him.

There isn't a GM in history that hasn't made mistakes.   Some big,  some small.   They ALL make mistakes.   It comes with the territory.    That's what happens when you're in the people business.

The key is to make as few as possible.

Look.....   I understand lots of Colts fan are glad he moved on.   It was time.   Everyone has a shelf life and Polian's had expired.  He was done in Indy.    I get that.

But the man did a lot of great things here,  including winning a Super Bowl.    The amount of ripping the guy takes here is amazing sometimes...........

i'd consider intentionally building a small defense and focusing soley on offense was a career ending mistake not a small one

  5. I'm not singling anyone out but I'm just going to say this in general about a lot of posters who live behind a computer screen with pseudo screen names and make comments that they never have to answer for or be held to any accountability for. I find it pretty lame the level of attacks we make on our players, gms, and coaches. I fully support having free speech and making an opinion known...I've criticized many things and maybe a hypocrite but now im going to explain why i actually dont support free speech at all

i cant say hitler wasnt a good natured leader because ive never ran a country

i cant say ossama bin laden was a mal hearted individual because ive never been a terrorist

i cant say the waitress shouldnt get hair in my food because ive never been a waiter

i cant say that poop tastes bad because ive never ate it

weve heard what you said over and over dont come to A FOOTBALL DISCUSSION FORUM and tell us we cant give our opinions of nfl executives. this place would get awful boring with only woohoo posts

  6. But of course it's just a google click away. One discussion here about the ethics of changing a quote you actually have on record let alone one off it.

    http://ajrarchive.org/article.asp?id=1340

    Or

    http://www.imediaethics.org/News/1014/Legal_vs_ethical_smackdown_journalists_find_quote_changing_grossly_unethical_.php

    Or

    http://www.rightsofwriters.com/2011/01/what-are-risks-of-misquoting.html?m=1

So it seems the consensus of the press, you said your friends were in the press right is that misquoting or quoting when off record is unethical.

these articles have little to nothing to do with presenting quotes that arent verifiable, they are about changing quotes and misquoting neither of which we are talking about, this is what i mean you have problems connecting what is relevant to the conversation or even knowing the topic at hand it seems because those articles have nothing to do with what we were talking about.

  7.

    Naptown....

If I may....    I hope this post will calm things down.....

The information I'm cutting and pasting here I just got from this very website --- Colts.com

From Pat McAfee's own page,  here's the info on his college career.    You'll see that Pat punted a LOT in college and was very, very good at it.   Everything's fine.    Polian had plenty of poor draft picks -- every GM in the history of the sport does.   But Pat McAfee was not one of them.   Polian didn't "luck" into a good punter.    Pat WAS a good punter in college.    This is not opinion,  this is fact.    And here are the facts for you right from McAfee's own page....      This should settle everything....

    COLLEGE:

    • Four-year player who appeared in 51 career games for West Virginia. Totaled 126 career punts for a 43.7 average with a career-long kick of 75 yards.
    • Tallied 35 punts of 50-plus yards and 46 kicks downed inside the 20-yard line.
    • Converted 58-of-79 field goals (73.4 pct.) with a long of 52 yards while splitting the uprights on 210-of-212 extra points for 384 total points.
    • Had 57 career touchbacks on kickoffs and set the school record for the most games played.
    • Following graduation, was the school’s all-time leading scorer, all-time scoring leader by a kicker and all-time extra points leader.
    • Ranked second in career punting average and second in field goals made.
    • Set the Big East record for the most extra points made and ranked second on the conference’s all-time scoring list, second in punting average and third in field goals made.
    • Appeared in 13 games as a senior and totaled 62 punts for a 44.7 average with a long of 65 yards and 25 kicks downed inside the 20-yard line.
    • Converted 17-of-20 field goals with a long kick of 52 yards and 36 extra points for 87 total punts.
    • Was one of two players in the NCAA with multiple 50-plus yard field goals.
    • As a junior, was a second-team All-Big East choice and a Lou Groza Award semi-finalist.
    • Majored in communications.

all ive done is gone by what pat says. if he gave me bad info then shame on him, go watch the video around the 4 minute mark

  8. The only thing invested at the time of the signing is the bonus money, usually less than 100k for seventh round picks.

And i guess you never heard of hyperbole. That would explain much of that interview. My nine year old can punr a football more than four yards. Take it literal if you want, but pat was a Ray Guy award finalist at west Virginia

yeah but the thing is jvan that were not talking about just the time around the signing bonus we were talking about the length of their rookie contract like you asked, plus there is a lot of investment that goes beyond just paying them, xrays, mris, trainers, coaches, drug testing, custodians to clean their towels etc it goes way beyond any of that

you can stick your head in the sand and think all 7th round draft picks never had over a million dollars invested in them over the span of their rookie contracts but im sure many nfl executives and financial people would find that laughable

  9. You should choose to say it because you know it's verified.  Try answering the question this time.

you can keep saying "quoting a public figure where the quote isnt available is unethical"  it is your opinion and an illogical one. i dont choose what to say based on whether you know it already, or will be able to verify it. im not writing a text book

do you have a source for it being unethical i gotta ask?

  10. Replace and with nor and you have the meaning you were aiming for :)

I objected to your paintbrush job which now you've taken to extremes because you have shown you can't deal with being perceived as wrong in anything...

I can't help your failure to understand the ethics behind quotations and public domain, in fact if you really want to get into it the public domain part gets very technical vis a vis the press but we digress.

Keep it coming ... It's the offseason after all!

no, it had the same meaning to begin with you just didnt understand it, you can keep saying "quoting a public figure where the quote isnt available to me is unethical" is your opinion and an illogical one. i dont choose what to say based on whether you know it already, or will be able to verify it. im not writing a text book

  11. Yes. There was no sarcasm involved what so ever when I picked my screen name. I chose it because I was 100% serious. I would have given a 1st round pick, Satele, and DHB for Trent Richardson. Somehow Grigson pulled it off for just a pick?! Highway robbery.

i see what ya did there......

  12. So we've gone from "you can't say it's not true because it's not on the internet" to it's "only a Google click away", bit of a change of message there. The reason I asked was somewhat factitious I'll admit as I'd previously Google'd it and guess what... only link found was threads on this here forum so that was a genuine please show me the Google click or again is this something you can't back up and so will get aggressive about it and accuse me of failing to comprehend your point because I've persisted in pinning you down. Either way it looks like you've removed it so progress has been made :)

I think it's a little rude to to say I've not been paying attention, when I've read, answered and responded to everything you've posted with a degree of civility that was not earned. You on the other hand have evaded, dodged and muddied the waters at every turn while slipping in personal attacks on myself and other members.I was being sincere in my advice to you in previous posts, I really do not think you understand how you portray yourself to others in your posts.I have now on 3 separate posts offered to let this lie and move on from something we will never reach an accord on but you had to have the last word and "win". Congratulations Sir on your Pyrrhic victory

Oh as a parting gift, seeing as you're saying goodbye I'll throw in the proof reading of the quoted for free, it's a bit ironic to accuse someone of failing to comprehend text that is in incorrect English. People in stone houses.... should not bait Grammar Nazis :P

haha  again here is what i said

no it is not unethical for me to post a quote that isnt common knowledge and a google click away from verification

    =

IS NOT is functioning as a linking verb. it is linking common knowledge AND "a google click away from verification " to quote. IS NOT means doesnt equal, isnt similar to, or not resembling.

i was stating (again) that the quote wasnt common knowledge AND it isnt a google click away from verification, youre so anxious to spew more nonsense that you dont even pay attention to what is written, prove my points for me, and claim i cant state something my friends, a travel agency, and thousands others have observed because "that source sucks, im here and i know" even though you said "saying because i said so isnt good enough" which is another of your contradictions. try reading next time, you might understand more

  13. Please for the less able of us provide the link, my google skills aren't as good as you angry young men.

You fail to answer a direct question once again regards contradicting, man you're hard work, more slippery than a greased up eel :P

why would i dig thru all this to try and find it when youre not going to understand it anyways, just like how u read my post and some how came up with "the quote is on google, where is it?". it shows you dont pay attention to what youre reading and talking with someone like that is a waste of time and explains a lot, good bye forever sir

  14. well i guess all of them consdiering the minimum a rookie can make is 285,000 and rookies are generally signed to 4-6 year deals

its not my fault mcafee said "i didnt really know how to punt, when i came into colts training campi punted the ball 4 yards."

    watch it 4min

  15. Satele cut does that mean Mack or puente?

    no it doesnt

I'm going to drink a fifth to celebrate

wow like right before you chose your user name?

I doubt the front office will take much criticism for this move haha

not now but in a year they probably will

This means that we are definitely gonna attack one of the big 3 centers in free agency ( Mack, deit smith, de la puente). I don't see us drafting a center, and even so we need a starting center, so unless we take one in the second round we aren't getting any starters.

    ALL HAIL GRIGSON

no, it means satele isnt a colt

Does anyone else just feel like this gives you a HUGE amount of confidence in management like Chuck and Grigs? For me it sure does! WOW!

no, it shouldve been done a while ago

  16. I go back to it because you refuse to answer or acknowledge the point about it being unethical. I guess because you know it's a valid one. This seems to be your modus operandi, ignore and and rant about how everyone else is wrong.

Please educate me as to where I've contradicted

no it is not unethical for me to post a quote that isnt common knowledge and a google click away from verification

as for contradicting yourself i already pointed it out re read my posts

  17. Clearly?! Umm you don't know me or anything about the levels in which I am and have been involved in the game.

There is no point continuing with you, I have tried to meet you half way but you ignore what you don't like to hear. I've tried to engage you civilly but you have to constantly push with aggression and personal attacks.

To make it clear, and please don't dance around this. The main problem is you attribute a quote, that is quite controversial to a public figure that is not public domain. It's unethical and could technically be libellous. Do you get why people are irked by it? I could quote "you" in mg signature saying anything I want. Would you like that? No.

I suggest we leave this at this, please for the good of the forum, let that be something to agree on? Or do you want to keep going and going because there won't be a "winner" and that's the validation you seem to be seeking.

you can keep going back to the quote everytime youre wrong if you like but it doesnt make you right about all the other things youve said and the numerous times youve contradicted yourself and proved my point for me
