Sherman is certainly up there... and is a brash young man who isn't afraid to speak his mind. It rubs people the wrong way, but you can't fault the guy for playing mind games. That is part of the deal.
Everybody has bad games now and then, or you simply come face to face with an immensely talented player like T.Y. Hilton.
I wouldn't even say it's mind games. He's brutally honest and always speaks truthfully and transparently. I'd say that's the complete opposite of mind games.
For the record, I think he's best corner in the league right now and I don't think it's close.

Not really. For a number of reasons Grigson doesn't say "He's not brought in as a starter" or "He's brought in as a starter", but you can still get a clear idea of the intentions by analyzing the statements. There's a clear difference in the statements after signing the players who went on to start right away compared to this statement. Based on these differences and the pattern it shows, my interpretation (i.e. he isn't being brought in as a starter) or subjectivity is more likely to be true than the one you have. Everything doesn't have to be explicit for one to understand what's happening here.
I'm not sure why you think I have the opposite opinion to you. I too think that he has probably been brought in for depth rather than to start.
What I have an issue with is a minority of posters, you included, suggesting that their opinion is somehow factual.
Absolutely you can interpret certain things from a person's words, but your interpretation will remain merely an interpretation, and will be subjective.

Depends where you want to spend that money I guess.
I think we have one of the better back up QBs in the league so I'd be very hesitant before I cut him. If it means freeing up the extra cash needed to sign a key starter then I'd be down. I don't see that situation arising any time soon though.
-
Did he say that Costa IS the starter? Aren't you "imposing your own subjectivity" yourself?
Not at all.
Nowhere have I implied that Costa will start, nor that the signing is a bad one. I think he probably has been brought in for depth and I'm fine with that.
I'm merely suggesting that trying to combat one extreme argument, like "Costa is definitely the starter and that's bad", with the opposite extreme, like "Costa is definitely not the starter and that's good", isn't the most productive thing to be doing when you don't know the facts.
If your opinion is that he won't start then, by all means, go ahead and express that. But don't pretend like you somehow have inside information and anyone who disagrees with you doesn't know what they're talking about.

It's very simple. Just analyze the words in Grigson's statements after the signing of Costa.
Then compare what he said after signing Costa to the statements he made after signing guys like LaRon Landry, Gosder Cherilus etc
There's a distinct difference. Nothing in Grigson's words about Costa is indicative of him being a starter. That's not the case with the other players who ended up started.
It's like people ITT have never analyzed text or subtext. All these overreactions and assumptions.
You can analyse subtext all you want. Unless Grigson explicitly states "Phil Costa is not the starter" then you're still just imposing your own subjectivity upon his words.
Correct me if I'm wrong but he didn't say that did he?
-
He. Is. Not. The. Starter.
It the situation really that hard to comprehend?
How can you possibly say that with any certainty?
People are getting their knickers in a twist prematurely but you know as little as them right now.

*Raises hand and waves it in the air frantically*
Ooh ooh! Pick me! Pick me!
Because they are...
-
Please just be for depth.
PLEASE!
Lets get one thing clear though, he is better than Satele
This though.
-
Please just be for depth.
PLEASE!

A unanimous no then!
For the record, I tend to agree but I wouldn't mind bringing him in for a year, maybe two. He's still a very good receiver and is ferocious as ever.
-
For those that still think we should sign a WR, what would you think if we picked up Smith?
-
Maaannn this is brutal! I really hope Grigson can make this happen!
-
Yeah, I'd take him for a year if the money was right.
-
Pay the man!
-
Not ecstatic about this but it wouldn't be the worst signing in the world.
Let's see what comes of it.
-
Who is that guy?!
It's Simon Cowell on steroids.
-
Ha you're not from around here are you?
Good signing for you guys talent wise certainly, not sure if I'd be happy with the drama that comes with him but it's only a 1 year deal at a decent price for what you're getting.
As we have already seen with Tebow, the drama will disappear the second Revis steps into the building.

Football discussion is second to none. I am a member of several non-Pats forums but this one is among my favs.
Fair enough!
With regards to your original post, I must agree that signing him to an initial one year deal is a really smart move. I think Denver are winners too though and I think they're still the team to beat in the AFC.
-
Why do you post here if you're a NE fan?
-
I'd like to say Emmanuel Sanders because I think he's the more exciting and dynamic player, but I'm tempted to say Nicks because of the bigger body.
I guess I'd probably end up going with Sanders because we could use another playmaker but it's super close.

Broncos just went from scary to downright terrifying.
If their offence can put up numbers that even slightly resemble last season's then there's no way they don't make the Superbowl again.
-
My god you guys literally have no idea how this tag works.
His tender is 10 million dollars, that does not mean you could sign him for 11 million.
Why not?
-
I'd love to see us sign a veteran at C and FS. I think they're the last two pieces of the puzzle in terms of starters.
Then we can just focus on getting the guys with the most potential talent and upside in the draft to groom for the future, regardless of position to an extent.

I'm fine with the money we paid for Jones and Davis. It wasn't an environment in which we could afford to be thrifty. I'm glad Grigson and co. went out and got their guys and I'm sure they'll prove to be worth the investment.
Colts sign center Phil Costa [Merge]

That's how I read them too. And it makes perfect sense to read his comments in that way. It doesn't provide the grounds to insult someone else's intelligence if they happen to interpret something else from the same words, however. That's what it seemed like one or two posters were doing.
I'm still hopeful that we'll sign another center but I'm not convinced that we will. Like you said, it's still early and we'll have to see. I'm not thoroughly excited by the prospect of either Costa or Holmes starting but if Grigson deems one of them fit then I'll concede to his better judgement.
As an additional note, it's promising that it took this long for the forum to implode. I guess that means we have a couple of real keepers in Jones and Jackson!
