"But if he [Peyton Manning] can play, he could do that for us this season and then he'd have the choice of whether to retire, with his number retired, the statue built and the whole thing. If he's healthy, he'd handle 2012 better than Andrew could. But ultimately I have always wanted him to make the decision, with us having pointed out the risk and the stress he's putting his neck under by playing. The biggest aspect is I want him to be comfortable with his decision.''

http://sportsillustr...l#ixzz1mfTfLpmZFYI, there are no Andrews in the current Colts roster.
I don't see anything definitive there, he said Andrew could not would/
No slip just referring to a potential pick, I'm still waiting for draft day.

This response doesn't make any since... I really don't know what to say, I guess we could use Painter, Collins, and Orlovsky again, or we could draft a quarterback like maybe Tyler Wilson or Tyler Bray in the future.
It makes sense as sarcasm.....

This isn't anything new, owners have been burned in effigy more times than they like to think about but the bottom line is they still make money and the team continues for better or worse. Ticket sales probably will dip if #18 isn't behind center but it will go up again, too many people want to see a Colts game that don't have the money to pay aftermarket prices. As for throwing out Manning jerseys--yeah, right. How many "88" or "21" jerseys did you see in the trash?Just my opinion but just releasing Manning will cause the most uproar. If you think this fan base won't want Irsay's head, then your crazy. They already booed him at the NFL experience Super Bowl week. Thats with Manning still on the roster. Fans will riot, season ticket sells will decline if announced prior to March 3rd, lol. If they just release Manning they will have to have security at the Colts complex. People will be driving by throwing there Manning Jersey's on the front door. Not good.
, thats why I wish we had won that last game now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm hoping the right decisions will be made by Irsay with his new "advisors" and the team remains a viable contender for years to come.

Somehow missed seeing this little gem, thanks.

I visited several times after mycolts.net shut down, it didn't seem very friendly but I'm gonna try again and see if I'll fit in here too. Besides, I love the Colts to much to be scared off after a couple of site changes.

Let me propose a hypothetical question...
What if Bill Belicheck was our coach and Maning went down for the season. Would Bill go 0-12 at this point in the season, with this same exact team? If you say yes he would because of the personnel, then we should keep Caldwell because it's the fair thing to do. If you believe that no amount of coaching would make a difference with the team that we have.
I contend that with BB we would have definitely won a few games this season. He would have changes schemes to adjust to the strengths of our players. He wouldn't allow for a quarterback in his fist year as a starter to constantly throw for 40+ attempts. He would've found a way to win. If you also believe this, then it's fair to think that Caldwell is under performing and deserves to be fired.
To be a part of a team like the Colts, who have been a winning team for over a decade, you have to have high standards. You cannot be okay with losing every game because PM isn't playing.
The season Brady missed and the Pats still got to the playoffs proves it isn't the QB that makes the difference in New England. Bill Belichek is a coach on a level with the greatest.

An L is still an L last time I checked. Close only counts in horseshoes(not this horseshoe) and hand grenades. Why should he keep his job over 1 win if he does get one?
Close also counts with nuclear weapons. If he loses the job it will be for the season long performance--or lack thereof.
-
Sounds like Caldwell is doing anything to save his job now... i wonder who would take over if he was to be fired this season.
Hire Kerry Collins as the head coach, he couldn't be any worse....just kidding.

Real shocker, Bob couldn't start today. He hurt his knee. Sorry Bob, you're a great player but too injury prone.
-
Non issue, the man is in business and when it's all said and done he knows which team puts bread on the table.
-
He is a leading tackler right now. He is by far the best run stopper on the team. Brackett has his strong points, but with the type of defense that we need to play now Angerer is the better fit in the middle. Plus, Brackett, can play another position.
Don't change anyone from the lineup tonight--it was great!
-
Despite operating with an inept offense, we managed to put give the Steelers everything they could handle tonight. Freeney and Mathis were "lights out"! I was also really impressed with Drake Nevis. I saw that the Steelers had to double team that kid just to keep him from pushing in the pocket all night! Nevis may be one of the best Polian picks in a while. Angerer was everywhere also. Lefeged looked promising for a rook...all in all, the Colts defense walked off that field holding their heads high. Had Manning been in the game the score would have been lopsided in our favor.
With a couple of high draft picks on defense next year, this could be a real strength of our team for years to come.
The defense played like champions today and did you see Roethlisberger keep looking for Freeney and Mathis?? Priceless.....

Who should get the start next week?
If Collins can, use him. The experience he has cannot be measured and Painter still has a long way to go.

Mouthofsouth suggested sending well wishes to Peyton while he recovers and who knows who might look in on us from time to time. So it never hurts to send out good thoughts, does it?
So if you wish to post a get well wish concerning Peyton, please feel free to do so. But only positive thoughts and posts in this thread please and keep it clean. There are plenty of other threads for other discussions.
Personally I have had two fusion surgeries (one with the hip graft) and I send loads of thoughts and prayers to Peyton and the whole family for a quick recovery & hopefully lots of time to enjoy with the little ones while recuperating...until he can come back to the field and take care of business.

Peyton, take all season to get well, but puhleeeeeze get well for us!!

This was the CLEVELAND BROWNS. They will get blown out of almost every game and yet they completely dominated this football team.
It is a hollow shell and we are seeing just how much Peyton Manning has had to compensate for.
Losing to Cleveland sucks but it's not the end of the world. Colts fans are spoiled from having a leader and a winner like Peyton Manning but right now the Colts are just average--which is how most NFL fans live so why not just support the team when they need it the most?
They will get back on top.
-
When did they start drafting laser sharks?? We need some.
-
Stay with the veteran, cooler head and experience is needed right now.
-
Can we finally admit to ourselves that this is not a good football team?
No, I saw lots of improvement--there is just more to improve in the coming weeks.

I think Painter should be the starter for the first month or so of the season to give collins time to get used to the offense. First of all, Colts need to run the no huddle offense which Collins clearly can not do and Painter can. Also, Painter is more mobile than collins which is important because the pocket is going to collapse (like it often did yesterday). I know Painter has been horrible but I think the logical thing to do would be to start the QB who knows the playbook. Throwing to Wayne every play (like collins did yesterday) looks great for fantasy football but it wont win games.
Yeah but knowing the playbook doesn't help if the ball doesn't get there. I think it's more likely to get caught if Collins is throwing.

That is where I am at. The guy is a bust and I assume the Colts see that way as well. If they did not why would Carter get to spell JA.
When a rookie comes in and is all ready getting carries over you it does not speak highly of your play.
I think the only reason we kept him was as an insurance policy because JA has not been known be the most durable back out there and we will need to run it more often with Manning down. They probably feel Brown right now can carry the ball more then Evans.
I fully expect DB to be gone next year.
I guess I missed something because I thought his play was better than others seem to think, what went wrong?
-
I might be in the minority here, but I'd rather stick with Collins. Garrard has never impressed me in the least and unless he can play DT and actually help stop the run, he isn't gonna help anyway. Its funny how this organization always thinks bringing in another offensive weapon(if you can call Garrard a weapon)is the answer when the obvious problem is defense.
I agree, the difference between the first and second half makes it clear that given a little time Collins will do the job and if they pay for Gerrard, it would be tough to keep 3 QBs active so what would happen to the development of Painter, the Colts need someone to take over a few years down the road when Peyton eventually does retire so what then?

AFC South
Manningless colts - under rated
tenn. titans - corrupt & confused
H. Texans - Over confident, but talented, they will boil over sooner or later.
J. Jaguars - very confused, wth
Well I'm optimistic about the whole thing, they're keeping Manning on the roster so if the rehab goes well he can play late in the season. I'm not counting on it but it's a nice thought.
-
We have a suspect o-line, a blitz-happy opposing week 1 defense, Mario Williams out for blood, we're playing at Houston (ie. crowd noise) and Collins is old and has had only 2-3 weeks of practice. I hope Curtis Painter is ready, because I've got a bad feeling about this...
Not irony, tragedy.

I like optimism, so I practice it whenever possible. Worst case scenario is not considered until more information is gathered so I ignore it.

I agree, as I said on another fan site weeks ago when Peyton said he wanted to retire a Colt. He opened the door then for negotiation/renegotiation and Irsay finally took the next step toward keeping the face of the Indianapolis Colts wearing blue and white for another year or two....until Peyton decides to retire.
Whether its Luck or Griffin isn't as important as having Obi Wan Manning there to teach them how to survive and win.
