Yes, the business model of today forgets loyalty and service. I was hoping the Colts could be different for someone like Manning. So what he was paid very well for those services he is owed nothing.
-
Just like watching him throw has to wait, everything will be done in it's time and when publicity is best. Are you just conviently forgetting the fact that for that to happen the Colts would have to pay him 28 million dollars? That seems like an awful stupid chance to take. Of course you'll say that they can renegociate an incentive based contract, but if Manning really wanted that it would already be done.
-
No, I'm not. Without the leadership and drive he provided the Colts would still be also-rans instead of a model franchise in the NFL.Honorable? Your kidding right?
-
If long term success for the franchise is first then why not try Manning first and let the future learn from a future HOFer. If Manning can't do it, pull him and put the new guy in because until then nothing is sure.Only thing that matters is what is in the best interest of the franchise long term and that is going with Luck.

Uhhh, no but I wish I had some of his money!Hey Subvet, anyone say you look like Jeff Bridges?

The force is strong in this one....What has happened over the past year and something like how many surgeries leads you to believe we will see greatness in a 35+ year old player.
The preseason should be the stage for him to either fail in a blaze or succeed gloriously.
He is a competitor and a team player, failing at one means he'll leave because of the other.
While there are no obligations, the honorable thing to do is give him the chance to be Peyton friggin' Manning again.
I'm just a fan, not an acolyte of #18 but I think he deserves a chance to show us.
-
I guess I am just shocked at the number of people who won't let go of the past ...
"Whats past is prologue" William Shakespeare
Loosely translated that means what's already happened merely sets the scene for the really important stuff, which is the stuff our greatness will be made on.
Peyton Manning has something to prove either to himself or everyone else.
I say let him. Lets watch greatness.

Agree with it all, I'd add Manning will retire in no more than 3 years, probably less.Manning will sign a cheap incentive-laden deal..
He banked $26 mil off Indy last year....He got paid..
Luck can only be paid so much/He wont break 'Bank Irsay'
No matter what we do we have plenty of holes to fill....and we still have the rest of the draft
If you believe the QB is the most important offensive position..
why not give our new coaches a secure foundation.
Why not make us the strongest 1-2 QB team in the league...?
-
Well allrighty then! Nice to read you too.Because I like corresponding with you.

I support the Colts no matter who is behind the center and have since moving back to Indiana after getting out of the Navy. I have noticed you like to repeat my message when you reply to my posts, why is that?...or they are people like me that call out some posters who claim to be a Colts fan, but would readily on "some level" root for the Colts' opponent, if led by Peyton Manning.
-
....or they are people like me that started coming to this board when we were notified that the ColtsDirect board was being shut down.I think we have a lot of stanford fans who are suddenly "colts fans" and they came here on Jan 12- 17th to create an LZ for their boy in the community.
They don't post in the "how I became a colts fan" threads. They don't post in the "manning get well" threads. They only post in the manning vs luck threads.
If you remove these people, (you can just look at threads before January), this was a lot less split of a community, even though we KNEW in December we were getting the first pick.
-
Thank you but this board is "reality" enough. My TV is for unrealistic entertainment....Hence the popularity of " reality tv "

Maybe he wasn't invited to workouts with Manning.....hard to believe but maybe. Is it just me or did it come off from what he said that the Colts have just given Manning the cold shoulder. They haven't reached out to see him throw Jeff said, he even said that doesn't come off like a team looking to bring him back..
-
Maybe thats why they tried to get Garcon first....Reggie will cost more than Pierre
-
No one knows if Peyton is going anywhere yet, just wishful thinking and opinions so far. And as "everyone" knows, Manning could have been a #2 pick very easily because of good old Ryan Leaf who showed why there are no risk free guarantees in the draft. Those same people KNOW why we are dumping even Peyton for the NO RISK guaranteed non-bust of the century with Luck.

Are you defining "franchise quarterback" by wins in the Super Bowl?NOTE : this is an article ,
a FanPosts
not by stampede blue but from a site member there , just like if one member from this site doing the research and posted it
Is an article to go along with stats
Contains An Easy Chart to read
So, of the 19 QBs taken first overall, a grand total of 5 have become Franchise QB’s (Bradshaw, Elway, Aikman, Peyton and Eli)
History shows that of the top 20 quarterbacks drafted in the last 10 years, 18 are still on a team roster as either backup or starting.

Yeah, "Montana to Rice" was a thing of beauty and once Marvin touched the ball he didn't let go.In my opinion, Marvin is the 2nd best receiver of all time
-
"What we have here, is a failure to communicate."
If everyone is agreeing, you're not having a discussion, you're talking to yourself.
-
No bonus, he was paid enough last year so he doesn't have to balance his check book just yet.
Restructure contract loading it with incentives, he's never been greedy and would appeal to his ego.
And it lets him play his final years where it all began so when he does leave....management is smiling, players are smiling, the NFL is smiling, money is made everywhere and Indianapolis has the opportunity to send it's favorite son on the road to retirement in style and riding into the sunset in a blaze of glory.
Everybody wins.

1. Believe it, they didn't know otherwise why would they freeze money they would need later..I find it hard to believe that the Colts organization had no idea how bad Peytons injury was. I understand there was a lock out. But, i am not an knuckhead either. How could the Colts organization not know that Peyton had such an career changing surgery?
Which leads me to the next question. Why would Jim still give Peyton such a huge contract? Even after Peyton was on record saying he didnt need that kind of money?
It seems to me that they both knew what was going on. Maybe they both looked at it as a way to redo the franchise. Get a real back up/ future star to take his place. Then redo the coaching staff for a chance at another run before he retires?
I will say there is no way this organization was going to win another SB with the way things were going.
Just my opinion.
2. Huge money because locking in the star QB is good business decision, at the time he was money in the bank.
3. Believing they planned this to rebuild the franchise is a real stretch, too much money in the wrong places.
I don't see a conspiracy here, just the way the dice rolled.

Well, back in the day before Lucas Oil Stadium opened do you remember the nickname for the Hoosier Dome? The Colts have always been on the bubble and all they needed was the key, Peyton Manning proved to be it.i am sick of this. the colts were not a great team with years because of just peyton. we had talent like wayne, edge, marv, dallas. there just as important to our years of success as peyton. peyton did not carry a bad team for 12 years. so we got caught with young players, injuries, and bad coaching for one year adn all of the sudden all of our success is because of one player. i dont think so. we are a great team for more reasons then just peyton.
Many great players, many great games, I won't argue but without the magic Peyton provided I don't think the Colts would have risen as high as they did. Maybe the new quarterback will find the same magic......
-
I honestly believe he wants to finish his career as a Colt as has been reported. I'm not a Manning die hard fan, I'm a Colts fan and I only want what is best for both parties and the best to me is keeping Manning for a year or two and help guide the Colts until the new quarterback is ready to take them to the playoffs.Which do you think Peyton would rather have...
2-3 remaining of maybe .500 ball at best with the Colts
Or
2-3 remaining years on a team with good odds of being in the playoffs and making the playoffs playing for another team

The great thing about threads is that they twist and turn and you never know where they will go......getting back onto the topic of the thread.

No problem but we are all allowed to have an opinion, even dissenting ones. Discussion and debate needs two sides to succeed.sorry guys.these so called colts fans are getting to me
