  1. RG3 has stated in the Robert Gottlieb radio show that he would sit on the bench gladly because of his respect and admiration for Manning and that he didn't want to be the guy that sent Peyton packing.

Andrew Luck has stated that he would rather start in an interview today.

    http://espn.go.com/n...play-right-away

How would you feel if Mr. Irsay decides to draft RG3 over Luck because of RG3's stated willingness to sit behind Peyton, and Luck's stated desire to start?

The link you provided was to a 3 week old report, two days ago during the Combine Luck said: “Peyton was my hero growing up. He was my football hero. That’s who I modeled myself after, in high school, in middle school. You never truly replace a guy like that. And who knows what happens. So many different things can happen.”

So either he is being diplomatic about replacing the local legend or he is leaving his options open to play and learn for a season or two. As for RG3, this should not be a deciding factor as to whom to pick, the need to play immediately is desirable with rookies as is willingness to cooperate as a team member.

  2. Being way on the ascent is different from being healthy. I heard Mort today on the radio and Mort said Manning is making real progress which is what I said. When asked if he was back yet Mort said no but he thinks by the time training camp gets here Peyton should be good to go to throw then but no one knows for sure if he will have a set back and if the nerve will keep responding as well as it has or if it will platuo at some point.

The Colts don't have the time to wait till training camp to see before they have to decide if they are going to take a QB in the draft or not. I could see a way it's Peyton AND Luck or RG3 or just Luck or RG3. I do not and no one who gets paid to cover this, including Mort, sees away where it's just Peyton and another back up QB.

No disagreement here, it's just your earlier post sounded much more negative than this one concerning PMs health. I agree about the first pick being a QB (probably Luck) and while "way on the ascent" doesn't mean game ready, it indicates a drastic improvement in key functions which is what the Colts will be looking for.
  3. 1. Peyton Manning is not healthy. That has been documented. About the closet to someone saying he's healthy is Mort saying he's getting better and making progress.

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Peyton Manning's performance level is "way on the ascent from where it was two months ago or even a month ago."

Multiple doctors have led Mort to believe that Manning is healthy, "throwing the football well ... and not at risk." Mort's recent comments on Twitter suggest he's also been spoon-fed from the Manning camp. In fairness, though, he was among Manning's biggest skeptics following last offseason's neck surgeries. If these doctors' reports are factual, Manning may not have to wait until after the draft to gain full medical clearance and sign on the dotted line. Feb. 26 - 5:21 am et

Sounds like a positive opinion here, maybe Mort needs to check a few other sources.

  4. The majority of the forum says IT IS a done deal, so learn to read. As far as the outside world: they have absolutely no clue what is going on, as is evidenced by the fact that they have been 100% incorrect at every turn during this whole process. What in the world would make you think this assumption from them is correct? Especially when Irsay has said no such thing, Peyton has said no such thing, Condon has said no such thing.

There you go interrupting the flow of a conversation with facts again.
  5. I dont know much about Michael Flloyd out of Notre Dame but boy did he 'look' good. Good size a bit over 6-2. 220lb but looks bigger. Big hands. Ran a 4.42 he looks like an nfl wr. Hakeem Nicks maybe a comparison? Any ND fans in here can tell me more about the guy?

I live 35 miles from South Bend and went to one game this year. He had a slow start but finished as a serious threat and was the "go to" guy for most of the season. If you want stats, you'll have to look them up but I know I liked what I saw.
  6. I would disagree.

I have a different picture of PM. I think he would be very much like Luck, and want to start right away.

Before the draft, he would pay lip service to those who want him to sit. And after the draft he will compete and make it very hard for the coach to sit him.

No argument, thats why I phrased it the way I did, he is a competitor and when young was probably very very vocal about it.
  7. How do you think Peyton would have liked sitting behind Jim H?

Jim Harbaugh was a fine and well respected quarterback that had one outstanding year and many average ones. He wasn't half the quarterback Peyton Manning was (and possibly is) but I get your point and knowing how Peyton is a team player I would like to think he would have sat on the bench for the good of the team.
  8. This certainly is a new subject. In all reality, I wasn't posting here at the grand manifestation of the "The franchise had to know how serious PM's injury was" era. On my board, the threads were as endless as there are grains of sand on the beach.

My only response is that I find it hard to believe that fans have become so attuned to the ESPN born Drama outside the Game, mentality. A good game is great drama, so is the draft. No offense to the original post of this thread or the posters who responded, but front offices are filled with some of the brightest minds in the game. There is no mystery to me, or deception. Anything that fans need to know, they know, Anything they didn't need to know, is fine with me. When you go out to eat, you don't know what really goes on with your food....and that is a good thing. If you have ever had impacted wisdom teeth removed, you really don't want to know what they had to do to get them out. Trust me, you don't want to know. Same here. Stuff goes on that doesn't need to be known. We are outside the loop of information for a reason, because most fans.....great time to quote a movie....."Can't handle the truth". Just my 35 cents. (2 cents is so last century)

Excellent quote choice for the reference to your post and the fact that the Colts will have "A Few Good Men" with both PM and AL in the stable. And to paraphrase the next line "we want you both on the sideline, we NEED you both on the sideline."
  9. It wouldn't be "nothing". He would have the place marker in history as the man who 'ran' PM out of town. He doesn't want that.

Granted but when other outstanding quarterbacks like Joe Montana and Brett Favre were "ran out of town" the fans got over it with Steve Young and Aaron Rodgers who each backed up the starters for 2 or more years.

The Colts will probably draft Andrew Luck who has said he wouldn't mind sitting behind PM so other than fans not liking it, why the hurry to start the new guy?

  10. Keeping Manning stunts not help Luck plus then have all the drama with the two instead of a unified unit.

Andrew Luck, thursday at the combine in Indy: "Peyton was my football hero. That's who I modeled myself after. You never replace a guy like that," Luck said. "Who knows what happens?"

He added, "If I have the opportunity to learn from a guy like that, of course, you're going to take advantage of it."

Sounds like it may be unified already, even if he is just being polite Sensei Peyton is a good guy to listen to.

  11. Irsay cannot openly suggest he doesn't want PM back. At least he doesn't feel that way. In this one particular situation, there's no rational way for him to be honest. He cannot say that he wishes Manning would have retired. He cannot say that he would just like to move forward with Andrew Luck. If Irsay truly wanted Manning back; why wouldn't he have taken the necessary steps to bring him back? He controls his rights at the moment. He can bring back Manning, and trade the #1 overall pick for a haul to build around a 36 year old QB. But he hasn't done that.

He's the owner, he can do what he wants to and withstand the fan backlash, there is still a huge waiting list for season tickets so admitting he doesn't want PM would be nothing. As for bringing PM back, where did he go? As far as I know he is still under contract and until told otherwise will be a Colt. Irsay would be a fool to trade the #1 pick, just like he would be if he got rid of Peyton.
  12. Great read, and I had been waiting for Silver to write a summation on the whole subject because he is always right on.

    http://sports.yahoo....drew_luck022512

Not a lot of new material, but if anyone accurately paints a picture of how it is and how it will be; just talks reality, it's Silver.

Good read yes, but still an opinion piece with nothing that wasn't already discussed and no sarcasm intended, I didn't see any reference to Manning definately not playing next year. Did I miss that part?
  13. QB is not a need for us...we have literally the greatest QB of ALL TIME on our roster. We should be looking to win now, not a guy who might start for us 5-6 years down the road. Personally, I think we should stay in the no.1 slot to choose Claiborne. Perhaps the greatest CB prospect of all time, a true beast. Our secondary is atrocious so it'd fill a need to. Trading down would be nice but we can't risk it since STL would gladly take him at 2.

I would hate it if Peyton Manning couldn't play anymore but I think you need to re-think that we don't need a quarterback with the top draft pick in hand.
  14. actually the fact it hasn't happened yet leads me to believe he is more likely to renegotiate. and that also lends credence to the speculation that his ability to throw is still largely in question. which in turn makes it seem more believable that manning will never play again

    :(

Why on earth do you have to be so reasonable!! Doubts enter the mind now.......
  15. And Irsay said he wants Peyton back but he didnt say he wants him back at all costs. He is honest but he didn't tell everyone the full truth. The full truth is he really wants Peyton to retire so there's no way he can look like the bad guy. But he didnt say that.

Good point, I didn't think of that, hope you're wrong.
  16. Don't have to do what? Either he pays the 28 mil. or he renegotiate's. Thats it, there'e no other options and like I said, if Manning (and Irsay) were really willing to do that it would already be done.

They don't have to hurry just because fans are nervous, they'll do it when they are ready. They'll renegotiate.
