  1.

This is your first post. Let the beauty and sheer panic of the thought soak over you. Maybe 12 hours after Holmes' injury when you have had more time to digest it and be less emotional or panicky, or whatever you were, you might have put in a more reasonable thought. Doubtful though because you have kept defending this position.

Ahem, I point you back to your original thought, you know where we should give up on the season.

I keep bringinp up the first preseason game, well... because that was the game in which you declared season over. I know you said "if" Holmes is seriously hurt but regardless, it is still a funny sentiment. For the love of God, they had a good year last year with McGlynn and Satele playing key roles.

I have a differing opinion than you - a more thoughtful and reasonable one. So I guess I would tell you to expect to hear about it if you post something so over the top.

JSkinz, though I agree with your point, it really isn't necessary to make it with personal attack and insults on people.  Why do you need to call him ignorant etc.?  Your argument should be enough to prove your point without personal attacks.  If we're going to add insults to emphasize how right we are and how wrong someone else is about a topic, it's going to be really unpleasant here and not very welcoming to new people who want to post but are in fear of being ridiculed by the regulars.  Lighten up a bit, this is a friendly discussion board for fans, not a group of professional football experts.  I bet at some point you will say something that seems to many others to be ridiculous.  That's the nature of open discussion.  Do you attack your buddies in real life and try to make them feel bad about some trivial discussion like this?  Take a deep breath and educate folks if you feel you have a strong amount of knowledge on a topic or that you could quell their fear of our teams collapse. Thanks.

  2. HI Folks,

This is picking up from the "Retire 88" Topic.   Which players from the Colts past or Present do you Predict will be in the Hall of Fame?

    In my view:

Marvin Harrison Should have been a first ballot, but now he waits, but he'll get in.

    Peyton Manning A LOCK

Reggie Wayne (What more does he need to do to qualify?)

Adam Vinatieri (if he's around and the Colts win another 1 or 2 Super Bowls, would he go in as a Colt or Patriot?)

Dwight Freeny (though not a lock in my view)

Robert Mathis (he needs 2 more strong years I my view)

Andrew Luck (I project his career arc will end in Canton)

Tony Dungy (a long shot, but he played in a SB and Coached and won the first as a black coach.. has social significance)

Jim Irsay (if the Colts win 2 more Super Bowls before he retires, I think he has a shot)

Guy that likely won't but I would love to see get some type of consideration:

Jeff Saturday (his work on the Union/League issues significantly helped save an entire season, 8 time pro bowler)

Did I miss anyone?  Are those choices too many?  I am sure I left out someone obvious and perhaps stretched a bit to include some, but that's the game, so let's see your list?

  3. Teams used corners and safeties on Fleener last year from time to time. That's why I want to see 12 personnel some of the time, because we can get a nickel look against 2TE sets, then run the ball. Of course, Fleener has to do his share as a run blocker, but if we're going against nickel, we should be asking a little less of him.

The possibilities are endless, really. I'm excited. Just hope everyone stays healthy.

Your last comment says it all Superman.  We couldn't do innovative sets last year because we really only had one serviceable TE once Allen went down plus losing Reggie made 3WR/2TE/Empty Backfield pointless to bother with.  But with ALL our weapons healthy, we can pull lots of stuff out that creates matchup nightmares for our opponents.  Seeing the injury bug hit Ballard already, health may be our biggest foe to overcome.

  4. Give in? There is nothing to give in to, I am having a legitimate discussion in regards to this... we did not have it once last year that I can recall and no one else has been able to provide evidence that we did.

Question... how do we catch a defense off guard with this?

You're simply adding 2 new statements that have nothing to do with what I said.  I never said "we catch a defense off guard with this" or we did it once last year.   My only statement was that at some point in the season, we would run it.  Good argument tactic, but don't imply in a reply to me that I said or need to defend either statement.

  5. Yep, JPF called it. Here's the post (predicting the formation at the end of the post)

Actually, I made the statement much earlier on page 1... that was more of a summation to what I had said and defended over and over during the post.  Funny how many of the same folks were on that post as this one but I am getting way more support now that it has happened in practice.  Anton still won't give in though... no problem, it will be fun to see if it happens and then we can revisit as warrants. I think it wouls be impossible to defend, especially if we caught them off guard with it.

  6. Folks,

A few weeks back I was called out for my outrageous prediction that the Colts would use a set featuring 3 WR's, 2 TE's and an empty backfield.  Well, they are already practicing that very formation.  Sure, it doesn't prove they will use it in a game, but it also proves that my statement was not without merit nor as incredulous as some said it was.

    Here's a quote from ESPN:

    • The Colts showed their offensive versatility during a red-zone drill when they used a formation that featured receivers Reggie Wayne, T.Y. Hilton and Hakeem Nicks lined up out wide on one side and tight ends Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener lined up out wide on the other side. With both Allen and Fleener standing 6-foot-3 and 6-foot-6, respectively, the Colts will have a height advantage to throw the ball up high to their tight ends against the smaller defensive backs. Luck tried that once on a play when Fleener was defended by safety Delano Howell. He ended up overthrowing Fleener, as the pass went out of bounds. Still, Luck didn’t have those types of options last season. “Coach told us never to compare seasons to seasons because you end up devaluing someone along the way,” Luck said. “So I’m not going to compare it to whatever I’ve played with in the past with some awesome, awesome dudes. But again, it takes a bunch of guys throughout a season and we know that. So the way the guys are playing now, it should be a lot of fun.”

So, it is not only possible, but something they are working on.  And we WILL see it in a game in one form or another.  Why not?  Who else can put that much receiving talent on the field at once?

  7. Well, this would have been a better set of choices: (I realize the creator of this post got the idea from the Star).

Sign an available Veteran right now

    Trade

Stand Pat, we already have what we need in camp

Stand Pat, until we know enough to determine if we need to sign someone else who becomes available:

And everyone should have chosen the 4th.

The poll as it stands is incomplete.  No team would stand pat if no one on the current roster could fill in the third, open slot sufficiently better than someone available. The real crux is whether you believe we already have someone good enough (or if you simply believe that Bradshaw or Richardson can be the #1 and the other is insurance with a quality rookie to start developing on the active roster, preferably a great special teams player.

False choices does not a good poll make.  But that's just my opinion, I could be right.

  8. I skimmed over all 5 pages, so I am sorry to beat this obviously dead horse, but I will insert my view anyway albeit late in the conversation:

In my opinion, Andrew Luck is easily and without question #5 or better right now in the NFL.  Though it pains me to acknowledge it, Brady did the best job last year of all QB's by far because he had the worst talent to work with all season.   He won some games that still don't make sense.  Manning, on the other hand, should not have lost to anyone with those Offensive weapons.  Sure, his defense sucked, but Luck and the Colts beat the Seahawks with far less talent on both sides of the ball, so Manning has little excuse.  Likewise, Wilson and Kaepernick both had overflowing talent around them and the Colts beat them both.

Here's some thoughts on all of them: :

Brady (last year was amazing winning with no talent, though he

Manning (though he's the greatest reg. season QB ever, his teams always had more talent than Luck had his rookie year and most of his second year)

Brees (guy couldn't do much on bad San Diego teams and had a great defense and big weapons in New Orleans when he's won)

Rogers (uh... sure, he puts up great numbers, but when he lost the teams talent last year, he couldn't deal with it very well, plus he missed games)

Luck (last 2 years as a rookie and 2nd year player he went 11-5 and won a playoff game, beat the NFC runner up and both Super Bowl teams as well as KC twice, at their place and home).

Rivers: Does nothing with so-so talent year after year, early in his career he had loaded teams and still lost

Roethlisberger: last two season with weak teams missed playoffs.

Ryan: We see what NOT having Mr. All World Receiver part of the year  did to him last year.  He still had more than Luck had last year after injuries.

Romo: Sucks with mediocre talent and sucked with pretty good talent.

Newton: one good year with great Defense... can put up offense, but lacks leadership to get his team over the hump beyond one year.  Let's see him do it this year with a great D but less on O..

RGIII: Was never as good as Luck regardless and did not deserve ROTY over Luck based on what each had to work with... regressed year 2 and benched the last 3 games .

Wilson: He's had ALL WORLD D both years.  I believe any of the ABOVE QB's could have won a Super Bowl with those teams.

Kaepernick: Had perhaps better talent overall than any other player around him and this year has the most by far suggesting he should win the SB clearly this year if he's in the league of even this second group.

No one else really is in conversation are they?

So which group does Luck CLEARLY belong with?  The top group.  And he may not even be at the bottom of it if you simply measure the 2 years he has played and the level of talent he had to work with compared to those other teams.

Luck had no Sophomore or even Rookie slump in terms of RESULTS.  And I believe Luck could have achieved just as much as any of the above QB's with those SAME teams around him.  Luck STILL has less talent around him than the majority of these teams.  Let's see what he pulls off again this year with less talent.  (And the injuries are already started before the first game).

  9. It took Brown 5 years to get the system down and your gonna throw TR under the bus so easily?

No, you missed my point.  Many of the TR apologists suggest he couldn't do well simply because he missed training camp and a full offseason with the Colts.  So.. if you agree with that viewpoint, then how could any other player, especially one without early first round pedigrees, be expected to be able to contribute in any meaningful way if they've already missed all the pre-training camp and now some or all of the preseason?  It shouldn't be one way for Trent but not for others.   I hope as much as anyone that Trent does very well.  What other choice do we have if we hope to make and do well in the playoffs? I think Bradshaw is a proven talent, but he's fragile and should he have any problems, we're left with TR and whoever they put in the #3 slot.  On the otherhand, if Bradshaw stays healthy all season, then I am not worried regardless of how Trent does because Bradshaw is a great power runner and perfect for our system.  So I am not throwing TR under any bus, I AM throwing the argument of it being all about offseason and TC which caused Trent to fail last year.  Let's hope he can get in gear and live up to his 1st round status and everyone will be happy.  I wouldn't be surprised if he gets it together nor would I be surprised if he didn't.  But we really shouldn't have such meager expectations at the cost of a 1st round pick.   Would you truly be shocked if he was average or below this year? Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

  10. It just shows in a blink a deep WR group could look dangerously thin... same with any position group.  All teams suffer through it.  I was a Brown fan and always rooted for them to get him on the field more often as a few carries here and there didn't give him enough shots to break it open... but he's gone and was too expensive to keep.  But, to all those who are totally unconcerned because we have TR... keep in mind that if we bring anyone in, won't they be incapable of success because they didn't get a full Colt training camp?  I mean, if you buy the TR apologizers, then no one else could possibly come in and be workable after the final cut to 53 right? ... yeah.. whatever.

  11. If he isn't top 5 in the NFL it will be because success of Bradshaw and Ballard.  Im thinking about 1300 yds and 13-15 TD's.  That has nothing to do with his catches out of the backfield.  I have all the confidence in the world in him (Statement only valid if the O-line does their job).  I actually plan on nabbing him later than that around 8th or 9th, because I bet a lot of people pass on him.  Definitely don't get him in the 3rd.

That's a major cop-out. "(Statement only valid if the O-line does their job)."

That's like saying "The Colts will WIN the SuperBowl!  Statement only valid if they win all their games!"  =)

  12. The sad reality is if he takes off and kicks butt for the last 2 years of his deal (which would be great of course), we likely won't be able to sign him long term as who can afford to spend money at that now devalued position when the trend is running back by committee everywhere that isn't Phil or Minn (even Seattle insists they are going to spread the carries).  If he struggles, it now appears they will keep sticking with him trying to save face while better options sit idle.  And once his deal is up, we'll have wasted that productivity at RB for 2 more years.

Whatever happened to proving it in training camp and that no one is handed a job, they must be metal on metal sharpening each other until the sharpest blade gets the nod.  What point is there in handing someone who has done ZERO to earn it, the starting job so far in advance?  I thought starters couldn't lose their job due to injury?

Disappointed to learn all of the was empty rhetoric.

  13. What is it about having the last name of "Wells" that makes you a crappy writer who hates the Colts?  One down, but sadly still stuck with the other.

The other day I was reading an ESPN article about the Colts and though "Oh my God, Wells actually wrote a decent article!!!" I was literally ready to point it out to him and tell him as one of his biggest critics, he had done a good job.  Then I saw he had simply posted someone else's articles on the Colts Nation blog on the ESPN board.  Figures.

I had less exposure to the "other" Wells, but what I did read was garbage and was so amazingly inferior to the other lower ranking writers including the guy who is taking his place.  He was universally excellent, even when I disagreed with him he was professional in presentation and simply had a different opinion which is fine with me.  I don't need to agree with anyone, I just expect a reasonable level of professionalism and honest intent in their work.

I've read better analysis here all the time than I ever saw from Wells.  Either of them for that matter.

  14. Thanks Jmac.  I couldn't find anything on seating availability or other info beyond times/dates/layout of camp and special events.  Anyone who has been there. could you let me know about seating and do they all practice on the main football field, or on multiple side fields? I couldn't really see on the small picture of the map on that page.

    Thanks!

  15. Fun footage.  I haven't seen many NYG games, so it's good to see a relevant compilation like that against our first opponents top corner.  I wonder if he'd struggle with TY more than Nicks? We'll see.  I do think if we don't score at least 31 points, we have no shot.  I don't expect Denver will be running that much, most likely they'll just air it out start to finish with some short yardage runs for firsts and scores.  I could see a 35-31 up to a 45-41 type of game.

Talib is a serious CB.  I wonder how well he'll be coached in Denver compared to New England.  It seemed clear he's come a long long way under Belichick (sorry if I spelled that wrong, I never seem to get it right without searching for it).  Will Denver have him in the right scheme at the right time and who will they consider our #1 WR that first game?  That should be an interesting chess match.  I think any of the 3 primary receivers we have could be the #1 on any given week.  Good luck covering all 3 on the field at one time or in combo with our TE's.  Can't wait! I we can just get the OL protection and the DB protection right this year.  That's our weakness and I hope it isn't a matter of waiting until year 4 to really put those pieces together finally.
