    You mean this?

Even if that is true, Wilson is still a quality CB that can be relied on in coverage. He is not a liability imo

It's kind of a jump from they got theirs to he's considered by someone to be a liability isn't it?  I haven't been as impressed by Wilson as some others, but I am not sure their success and reward means he's a goner on face value or that they have given up.  Remember, Wilson is still younger than Ya-Sin after all.  He may just have to prove it through play until he's also in position to make it or not.  If he rises to the occasion they could have their starting 3 here for a long time.  I do think his leash is now much shorter though.  It's really up to him now.

This is a amazing stat. Mike Chappell said on his podcast Moore set a record in post season sacks. In two games he did better then Freeny and Mathis in their entire career.

Holy crap.. I had no idea bout this. What were the stats? Did they say?

  3. Now THIS makes me laugh.  I recall a lot of people claiming he was going to be cut this preseason.  I won't name names, but you all know who you are!

Kenny is top notch all the way.  I am really happy they are rewarding the guys who played their butts off.  Heck with the high price FA's, this is where the money should be going!

I'm calling my shot right here, Fountain is making the 53 man roster this year.

It was said multiple times last year by Ballard that he would need some time to tap into his raw ability.....listed below are his explosive traits:

    4.46 40 yard dash at 6'2" and 210

42.5" Verticle - would have been #1 at combine

134" Broad jump - would have been #1 at combine

It's been mentioned multiple times by Reich and Sirianni how much Fountains routes have been improved and he's playing with his explosive - aka playing with confidence and trusting his technique.

Additionally, it has been covered that each skill position requires certain size, speed, length traits to be draftable - which makes sense based off of who he's drafted/signed/traded for versus who he has signed as UDFA's.

    Pre-Ballard:

    Hilton 4.34 at 5'10" & 183

    Rogers 4.46 at 6'0" & 184

    Ballards Prototype:

    Campbell 4.31 at 6'0" & 205 (drafted)

    Funchess 4.50 at 6'4" & 224 (free agency)

    Cain 4.43 at 6'2" & 202 (drafted)

    Fountain 4.46 at 6'2" & 210 (drafted)

    Johnson 4.39 at 6'1" & 204 (traded for)

    Dulin 4.43 at 6'1" & 215 (udfa - but draftable)

    UDFA's:

Ishmael, good size, slow 4.5+ 40

Pascal, good size, slow 4.5+ 40

Hogan, good size, slow 4.5+ 40

Hart, too small and slow 4.5+ 40

Veasy, good size, slow 4.5+ 40

I like Ishmael and Pascal but I think we'll start to see the cream rise to the top this year!

Gotta like someone calling their shot... They must like him on some level because they did put him in the playoff game.  He rewarded that wide open endzone pass by dropping it, but alas, I don't think they call that play or toss him that pass unless they were hopeful of better things in the future.  He got open at least.  He's been a sort of afterthought while everyone rages about Cain.  But it seems pretty evident that one of those two has to go.  I haven't heard Pascal's name.  I have heard everyone else's though.  But it is established that you said it here first.  I think this is the most competitive position on the team this year in training camp, just ahead of DB.

  5. @CR91  Thanks for all these updates.  I was just saying it felt way too quiet this offseason new's coverage wise.  It was like I asked, you delivered!  It was like being there after a long long long day of working.

You need a Colts YouTube channel!

As Luck gets older he will probably take more and more time off in practices that don’t matter.

You know it is easy to forget but Luck really isn't a spring chicken anymore.  Missing that time really hit the hyper speed button a bit on his career.  Hopefully he has another decade left.  I don't even think the horseshoed Colts will be lucky enough to pull a trifecta when Luck is done.

Rushing back from injuries too soon causes negative effects

I can predict the weather from one of my HS football injuries

My leg was broken, set wrong and had to be sawed in two, turned around and bolted back together.  It hurts when the weather changes too... but it isn't anymore accurate than the TV guys... usually it just goes off half cocked.

Ha! I love this move.  I was just saying yesterday that I thought Sanchez was the most under-rated guy on our team.  This is a great signing.  I think we've only had 5 punters and 5 kickers since 1984!  We've been SUPER fortunate all these years.  One year our Punter and Place Kicker were our only two pro-bowlers (if my memory is correct) and frankly, they were probably our two best players that year which is never good.  I remember getting them both to sign a Colts hat that season when they came in to my company for a cross-promo thing.  Hunter was one I think and... can't think of the other guys name... anyone?

No doubt a good hard workout to keep up his muscle tone would have been fine while taking blood thinners to treat his blood clots in his lungs.  lmao

Actually I have experience with that particular issue.  It doesn't limit working out at all.  (Being on blood thinners to treat a clotting issue).  It's possible he had other complications, but as I said earlier there wasn't an in depth explanation about what his problem was.  If he was not allowed to exercise and needed to address that issue, he should have openly discussed it with the league, so apologists aside, cheating is cheating.   You can stop rubbing your blue head.

Not sure, but I'm not condoning it's use and not even suggesting he needed them medically. I was just responding to you as to why he would take them to gain weight. No doctor is going to prescribe testosterone (steroids) unless his natural levels were at a dangerously low amount. So more than likely he just wanted to take a shortcut to getting his strength and mass back and got popped for it.

Steroids and PED use are extremely prevalent nowadays. They're kind of the epidemic that no one talks about with athletes, hollywood actors and even just people at your local gyms. Today's generation wants instant results with less work.

Sorry if my question wasn't clear.  I was saying that just because he had lost weight, that shouldn't cause him to lose muscle tone etc. if he is still working out.  Usually when I go up and down in weight, I am gaining muscle tone, switch out fat for muscle.  Certainly not as drastic as the range of weight discussed here.  You were talking about the difficulty of GAINING weight and I was thinking lose of muscle while LOSING weight.  Sorry for any confusion.

Colts OLine is awarded "Best Pass-Blocking Line" by Seth Walder of ESPN.

Wow..  that's deep.  Did he struggle to read the stat on who gave up the least sacks last year, or did he just hear it from, oh I don't know, every channel covering the NFL?

I feel sorry for these guys who have to produce content relentlessly when there isn't anything going on of interest.   Few on this message board (or any other) could glance at a few stat sites and write this article.   Fluff.   Sure, a couple at the top and a couple at the bottom can be determined in part by a glance.  The rest is so dependent on deeper dives like who are the coaches, their strategies and techniques, who is drafting/signing UDFA's and even who the owner is.  It is also about scheme and the quality of each position off the line as much as on the line.  I doubt that type of depth was used to make this list.  Even team facilities and basic chemistry between players can have an impact.

On a side note, I was kind of surprised by how little actual info came out in the local or national media on the OTA's around the league etc.  I don't watch as much stuff on ESPN but I listen to the Fox Sports shows while I work and very little of the news involved OTA's or mini camps.  Youtube likewise had very little, so it will be brutal in terms of coverage coming up.  That is usually when all the lists and predictions appear (understandably).

It didn't seem to hurt Bruce Smith getting into the hall

That's because he wasn't on the fringe of the HOF in the first place.  Mathis is not a first ballot HOF.  His strip sacks are his only justification to get in that sets him well apart.  Everything about Smith's career set him apart.

Nice try though. If Brady was a fringe HOF QB talent with say, one Super Bowl win, I doubt he'd get in either.

To regain all of his lost muscle mass in a fraction of the time it would normally take.

Did he have cancer or something similar? (Not sure as the underlying condition was not discussed in Scott's post).  Even in the worst scenarios players still understand the rules.  If you want to be in the league, you should directly let the NFL know what you are doing so there's never a surprise discovery during drug testing.  I've heard (not here on this post) endless extreme scenarios to explain bad drug test results.  (Like Mathis's story for example).  People still know what they are doing.

There's big business in cheating.  If regular people could make millions of dollars by cheating at their job I am guessing it would be far more rampant than it appears in the NFL.

I do wonder if he can challenge this as part of his rehab from losing 70+ lbs could have been a legal prescription of some type of roids?

I'm not sure why he would need steroids after losing weight, but regardless of what he did, he obviously did not check in with the league for permission or guidance.  In my book, that is a 100% cheater.  If people have medical issues, the very first call is to the league office to discuss the issue with NFL Doctors and personnel who handle these issues.  Same as Mathis.  If he legitimately needed to take that masking agent he should have gone to the league for permission or acceptable options for his unique circumstances.  I do not accept any of these "I thought it would be okay" arguments.  Players are informed of the rules.  It is solely their responsible to control what goes into or onto their bodies.  No excuses.

In my view, they should let these guys do whatever legal drugs they want/need to get healthy, but that is not the NFL's view.  So I am just tired of all the excuse making for these guys.  (Not you individually Scott).  Mathis was my favorite player.  Sadly, he cheated and I bet it keeps him out of any chance at the HOF.

No kicker (or Colt) made it last year.  Even though AV broke the record, I’ll be surprised if he makes the 100.

True, it is unlikely.  But I heard someone say they were including all the position groups.  If they include Special Teams at all, him and the kicker in NE should be mentioned in my opinion . I would also put our punter up against any other.  He is perhaps the most underrated player on our team.  As much as many of us were sad to see McAfee go, he filled the void (outside of being hilarious) immediately.

Care to elaborate?  I'm still waiting for you to explain what "segmented group of people" you think I was talking about.

Suspension stats only show what players have been CAUGHT for, not everything they get away with behind closed doors.  My theory that many NFL players do stuff and don't get caught can't really be proven correct or incorrect unless every NFL player admits to what they've gotten away with, and that's not gonna happen.  haha

And I'm just going off my personal experience around football players in high school and college, same as you.  Although we seem to have had very different experiences.  I don't personally know all the players in the NFL, but neither do you, so neither of us know what all these guys do in their free time.  That's about the only incontestable "fact" we can agree on, everything else is just assumptions.

Just remember these guys aren't saints (well, except for New Orleans Saints like Drew Brees  haha), they are human just like you and me.  They make mistakes and have bad habits just like everyone else.  That's why they say you should never meet your heroes.  :dunno:

The big difference is that you believe that 50% of them are guilty of illegal behavior that would deserve suspension if caught by the league all without knowing them at all, and I support the theory of "innocent until proven guilty" applying to everyone, including Pro Football players. Unless a player admits to an action without a criminal court decision, they shouldn't be banned unless they plead guilty or are found guilty of a crime, or are found by the league to have broken a policy of some type.  I am not aware of Kelly denying the actions attributed to him.

That is the group of people I am referring to, NFL Players specifically, rather than all football players at all levels, why were you talking about someone else? If yes, please elaborate?

No group of people broken up into any designation or commonality is guilty of the actions, behaviors or crimes of any individual.  They also are not guilty because any or  all your friends do something wrong even if all your friends are football players. Not even if all your friends are NFL players.  You seem to attach a special stigma towards them of guilt by association with no supporting facts.   To the contrary, I supplied a complete list of every suspension in NFL History which easily disproves your theory.   Barely any players out of the total get banned for smoking pot, let alone 50% who would get caught in random drug tests if the number was anything like you claim.  Josh Gordon and any others like him are the extreme exception, not the rule.

    Double quote:

I concede that I haven't followed the other players and didn't realize they were still in the NFL.  I don't know if this fact makes 2017 draft better than ordinary.

As far as projections.  I don't understand the idea that a player, in this case Hooker, has an intrinsic value of where the pundits says it is, then the GM who picks the player below where the pundits say means the GM got a steal.

Doesn't the fact that the other 14 GMs who passed on the 15th picked player mean the pundits got it wrong?  Why do you inherently believe its the other 14 GMs who got it wrong when they passed him up?  They obviously saw something that led them to think he wasn't a top ten pick.

Again, starters are based upon the quality of the existing roster.  I answered that more deeply in the response to NCF.

And I'll add, if you're changing schemes and have very few players on the roster who fit the new scheme, it's logical to think that any player added will have a better shot at making the roster regardless of his overall talent level.  I don't see where the amount of draft picks on the current roster, by itself, really supports the idea of exceptional drafting prowess.

I have to hand it to you... this is one solid argument that has me rethinking my opinion on this.  The fact that Ballard has said he only had 1 or 2 players on Defense worthy of being starters when he took over supports your point a great deal.   It is nearly impossible to think his guys would not start in that scenario, regardless of their true value as starters in the league overall.  I hadn't thought of that so I must give you kudos for that argument.  It holds a lot of merit and Ballard essentially did confirm your view.  When you have sub-par starters, replacing them is not that challenging if you draft scheme specific skills you are looking for to start in those slots.

Something I have wondered about is does a GM pick his coaches based on a scheme he would like to see on his team, or does he not care what scheme they will run, he just looks for a great coach? (I am talking coordinators in this case).  With Reich calling the plays, when he came in as a replacement, did they change the offensive schemes at all when they switched from He Who Shall Not Be Name in NE or did they keep the same with both? Is that question making sense?

My guess is that we carry 5 Safeties.  Cyprien is really a SS, so I think he knocks Odum off if he comes in.

Hooker, Geathers, Farley, Willis and Odum are the first 5 IMO.

I guess he left without signing.  The Colts may have just wanted to get a look at him in case of an injury.

I read that he might be in high demand, but lately safeties have sat in the market for a long time and haven't gotten big paydays.  I doubt we'd give him a "starter" type deal, do you agree? We don't generally seem to offer big contracts to guys like this.  I really like Farley, so if we signed him I hope it wouldn't be him.  They also seem to like Odum so it could be a brutal cut if they did sign him.  If he left, it seems far less likely he circles back, though we took a while to sign Ware right?

On a side note, does anyone know what we ended up signing Ware for? Is it just a small one year deal or ?

When you think about both Geathers and Farley’s injury histories, it makes sense to bring in a veteran that has had that many starts.

You’re right about the Mitchell influence.  We can only hope Cyprien can provide that level of production, especially at SS.  I guess it comes down to if he’s really recovered and what he expects for a contract.

Let's say he comes in.  Who does he bump off the team?
