If the receiver is looking back at you and you still have not released the ball (on most routes) chances are you've already missed your passing window within the progression.

Not only that, the picture is totally wihtout context.  It looks like they are still executing their first route.

Had a drop by Hilton that hurt at the end of the game.. two passes to him were perfect and he just failed make the catch.. it happens!

The first wasn't 15 yards I don't think.  I think it was close, but the first down marker was like 7 yards if memory serves.  The other was 15 yards but dropped and then the deep pass to TY that wasn't even close.

I'm not sure about that. Do you have stats to back up this statement? The flaw that I saw with JB when he first joined us was that he had no touch. Everything was a laser beam, thrown as hard as possible. The coaches have clearly worked with him in that regard and this problem has improved a lot. I think that his problem now is that he can't plant and move properly with that clunky brace on this knee.

No it's not about stats.  The problem is he's not anticipating receivers being open after the breaks, he's too late to recognize when a receiver will be open and when he finally recognizes it, the opposing side is already closing the window because Jacoby stares waiting for the right time to throw.

@stitches had it right, Deshaun Watson is not even the great in this regard, and you can still see the significant difference between Watson and JB.  JB had this issue dating back to 2017.  It was evident in the first game, and I haven't seen really any improvement either in that regard.  That's the biggest reason he doesn't throw many passes downfield. Unless his first read gets open on a down field route, it's check down to a TE or RB <5 yards past the LOS.

I would replace the word "bad" with the word "injured". When healthy, JB is not a bad QB.

He's having the same issues now as he did when he was healthy.

So our wrs couldn't  get open versus zone from one of most injured secondaries in the league

    Or....Jacoby wasn't seeing them/throwing to them.

Good luck finding  an upgrade where we will be drafting.

We've got Jacoby for another year.  If Tua's the guy, they're saying he's still a first round talent, but now a 20s pick.  Even if he's not the guy and we miss the playoffs, which puts us at no higher than 20, Deshaun Watson and Pat Mahomes were acquired by teams drafting in the late 20s for what amounted to their 2017 first and a future first.

We'll be fine.  Probably won't even cost a future 1.  Ballard has drafted well enough in the later rounds that I'm not even concerned if he hits on the QB and it cost a future 1.  We need more than Jacoby.

We had guys that were open.... Even the announcers called it out.

This narrative has been debunked before...

    Not close at all.

Hilton was the least open... Doyle was wide open several times and not targeted. Hines and Pascal was as well. We had a lot of open guys in the middle / seam.

Houston is last in the league in total QB pressures... JB had no excuse tonight.

They produced just fine last year, and we were 6th in the league. We still have 84% of that production on the team this year. Do you spend a bunch upgrading several positions (and still won't be top 10), or do you spend a bunch upgrading one that is capable of making the existing personnel in the passing game top 10.

    silly

It didn't help that it was forced to TY in great coverage (while Doyle was wide open), or poorly thrown to TY (he had to stop his route) because he wasn't led.

One was not at all on the money. The second was a good pass into tight coverage, but the wrong decision (another was wide open)

Bingo. It's like JB has TY on his fantasy team.....

    Others were open...

TY was blanketed the first meeting and JB eventually started going to Pascal. Tonight he kept forcing it.

Those guys were the 6th best catching unit in the NFL last year.

The game plan was horrible given Houston's passing D, Houston's current injuries, and simply because we won with the first game with the exact opposite game plan. 70% Reich, 30 JB....

Raiders home loss will likely be the game that bites us.

Big NO, and no.... I love Pride, but he's not that good.

The D did fine. Not perfect, but did way more than enough. Held them to 20pts in their own house. Shut down their running game (less than 100) twice now, and held Watson to under his total last game.... And got an INT...

All these responses to the quotes deserve all the likes possible.

Because he doesn't see the field well and has no anticipation. A lot of playaction relies on him making a quick decision after the fake before the defense realizes they are being faked. And a lot of those decision need to be made with anticipation of the receiver getting open by the time the ball gets there, rather than the receiver being open at the time of the throw. Brissett doesn't throw to receivers that look even remotely covered.

And it's holding this team back.  There's not much we can do about it this year.  But I expect to address it or at least create some meaningful competition in the offseason.  JBs not hte guy and this, "it's his first season" stuff is garbage.  He's a 4th year pro.  If he can't play like a 4th year pro today, he's not going to play like a 4 or even 5 year pro tomorrow.

It's normal behavior to come on the colts board and moan after a loss. It's just a game and no one died.

I mean, most people would have just had a witty playful response, but you went with the boring factual one.  Not really much I can do with that...

It’s becoming a patter with Jacoby too.

Drop back in the pocket that is perfectly clean

    -Stand around looking down field

    -Pump fake

-Get sacked or run for minimal gain.

His indecisiveness is killing us. He won’t even throw the ball away when he should. He’ll just keep holding the ball until he gets tackled.

As much as I agree with this, he's the best option available.  Even if we were one of the teams interested in Kaepernick, he kinda burned his bridge for a chance.

People need to know that with Brissett at QB, you barely have any sort of vertical passing attack.

The vertical passing attack is why Texans had success on offense.

We know it, that's why we've been complaining about it.  But point that out to a JB truther, and you're met with torches and pitchforks.  We been saying this about JB all year, and tonight is the reason why.

The main WR couldn’t get open vs a 35 year old CB off the bench. And that’s the play the coach called on 2 3rd downs in a row instead of the 1 thing the offense can do. And the pass still hit him in the hands both times.

I mean yea, those were two big plays...but there's plenty of others that JB missed as well.  Arguably more crucial plays.  I like JB, and he's our best option.  He's still an option that holds us back against teams like the Texans where they can score ultra quickly and our response is never less than a 6 minute drive.  We lean on the run and when it's not there, it hurts.

That and our supposedly good defense crumbled tonight Passing game blows.

That was more of an issue with how we schemed against Watson.  We played him with the spy, which the point was to have someone once Watson inevitably scrambles.  That means you're running a lot of man coverage and we didn't have the CB power to match Fuller and Hopkins.  Once the play breaks down and scramble rules are in effect, we just can't keep up.  The bombs were just well thrown prayers against inferior CBs.  Sigh...

I can’t believe people blaming the J man. Frank Reich called a Bill O’Brien or Andy Reid in a big game type game and that’s what happened here.

It has been the same problem with JB all year.  He doesn't anticipate receivers getting open and it absolutely limits his passing game to his first read and the dump it to the hot guy or scrambling passes.  That's been his passing prowess.  People blame the receivers getting open, but they do.  You can see it when you can see enough of the field.  Sometimes on replays.
