  1. Stephon Tuitt - 3-4 DE - If he falls into the late 1st round or 2nd round I'd be for trading our 2015 1st round pick.  I think he is a future stud.  Could also kick inside in a 4-3 front.

David Yankey - OG - The top guard in the draft.  Great at pulling and getting to the 2nd level.  A starter early in his career.

Kelcy Quarles 3-4 DE - Could be another good DE in our system.  Could kick inside or stay at DE if we wanted to do a 4-3 set.

Jeremiah Attaochu - 3-4 OLB - A possible heir to Mathis as our #1 pass rusher who plays well in space.

Marcus Smith - 3-4 OLB - See Attaochu

Bashaud Breeland - CB - A CB with good size at a position of need.

Marcus Roberson - CB - If he is available with one of our later round picks, it would be a nice project pick.  His size/length/athleticism are undeniable

    Preston Brown - 3-4 ILB - A thumper/run stuffer in the middle.

If Landry falls to the 3rd round, like I've seen in some new mocks, I wouldn't hate if we took him there.  Same with Matthews.  Martavis Bryant in the later rounds wouldn't bother me either.  Such a deep draft for WR.

  2. Normally next year's first gets you a 2nd round pick in that year's first. So what else would you be willing to give up to get into the 20's ?

A late first round or if he falls into the early 2nd.  I'd have no problem adding a stalwart to our D-Line.

  3. Cut; Toler, Satele, Sheppard

    Draft

    2nd) Jeremiah Attauchu: OLB

    3rd) Ed Reynolds: FS

4th) Trade Up) Stanley Jean Baptiste: CB

7th) Kirby Van Der Camp: P

I could live with this.  I'm becoming a bigger fan of Attauchu.  I'd go for a different player looking for depth in the 7th.  Other players I could live with are Jarvis Landry, David Yankey, Kelcy Quarles, Marcus Smith, or Kenny Ladler.  Landry and Yankey could very well be gone but could also fall to us, especially Landry, due to depth.  I'm really not high on drafting a WR with the return or Wayne and Allen to our passing game, but we don't know how Wayne will come back at his age and Landry would be a great replacement.  He is very close to Wayne in terms of physical traits and is one of the best route runners and has very good hands.

  4. Found this one today.  http://www.rantsports.com/nfl/2013/11/14/2014-nfl-draft-indianapolis-colts-early-seven-round-mock/

The 7th rounder could be a toss up or a gamble but I'd like those first 4 picks.  Wayne's eventual replacement, a starting guard to go along with Donald Thomas and Alex Mack (Really hope we sign him) next year.  We would also get a starting ILB in Bullough and a potential starter at DE and a replacement for Redding.  I'd take this draft in a heartbeat.

  5. That may be true, but I never once saw anyone except Polian come up with ANY excuses for the poor play of Hughes. He was attacked like 99.9% of the time by the fans. But I see all these terrific reasons why this guy isnt performing. Its just interesting to see how that can happen. Two Defensive top picks...both busts, but only ONE gets trashed by the fans and media. Things that make you go....Hmmmmm.

When we drafted Hughes we brought him in to be a 4-3 DE as a 3rd pass rusher to Mathis and Freeney.  This was his position in college.  He was on the smaller side like Mathis, 6-2 250, but was an excellent athlete and had a great first step.  This never worked out however.  He never really made an impact and didn't become what everyone thought he could.  I remember around the draft, Hughes was graded out as the top 3-4 OLB prospect that year by many people.  It just didn't work out.  After a season in our hybrid 3-4 in 2012, he showed a little more promise, but the brass decided to trade him to Buffalo.  He's definitely having a career year for the Bills, and I hope the best for him.  Sometimes things just don't work out.

Others that never transitioned well from 4-3 DE to 3-4 OLB are Aaron Maybin out of PSU, Vernon Gholston out of OSU, and I'm sure there have been others.

  6. I think we could use CJF better than he was used in his 2 years as a starter at Iowa.  Greg Davis offense rarely used him like he should have.  He has decent straight line speed but about as much wiggle as you'd expect from a guy who is 6'7" 265lbs.  He needed to be running down the seam and matchups with LBs or DBs where he would have had a matchup advantage.  There were too many times where they'd simply have him run a couple of yards on an out route and be tackled right away.  If he is available in the 5th or later, than I'm fine with a pick on him to help with what we want to do on our offense.  I'm guessing he goes higher but we need to use what higher picks we have on our bigger needs.

  7. The best comparisons from a physical standpoint would be Dez Bryant, Andre Johnson, Terrell Owens.  Around 6'2" 220 with a 4.5 40 and a good vertical.  None of them are absolute burners but have the speed to take the top off of a defense and can outrun NFL DBs if they get behind them.  They are all physical and can outjump/outmuscle most CBs for jumpballs.  None of them are the physical freak that Calvin Johnson or Randy Moss are, but they are still very physically gifted.  If Da'Rick could turn out to play anything close to one of these guys, we would be in for a treat.

  8. I'm a long time (10 years) Tennessee Volunteers fan and and Indianapolis colts fan will be attending my first Colts game tonight in Nashville. Needless to say, I'm very excited.

That said, I'd like to take a moment to speak on Da'Rick Rogers.

During my time watching Rogers as a Vol fan, it was immediately known when he made his commitment to the Vols as a high school kid that he would be a huge playmaker for the Vols. He was tall, strong, fast, and known to have great hands. A 5* star player, we knew this kid would be special. As a freshmen, while showing glimpses of greatness, his PT was minimized due to a deep WR group consisting of 2 seniors, as well as the incredibly talented freshman Justin Hunter. Of course, Hunter was drafted in the 1st round to tonight's opponent. He is an incredible talent, highly intelligent... Yet Rogers is equally as talented.

And this fact has been overshadowed by his "knucklehead" status. The fact is this, the guy smoked pot during his first 2 years of college. I did it, many successful people have. While doing so, he was arguably the best WR in the SEC during his true sophomore season. He was not a RS.

We've all seen the statline of his sophomore season. Is phenomenal. What goes unnoticed was who his QB was: Matt Simms. While a backup in the NFL, this guy was a bum while at UT. Highly due to coaching and a subpar environment, he was still one of the worst QBs in the SEC at the time. Yet Da'Rick shined like a diamond in a sea of coal.

My point is this, Da'Rick is an absolute beast. He can beat you with speed, strength, route running, and with his hands. And he can do it on a. Insistent base. His maturity issues bothered the Bills, because they lacked the leadership to correct this problem. We don't have this issue. It was evident from his interview as well as the fact that he was running with the 1st team offense that he is everything I've said he is. Da'Rick is going to be the next great receiver for the Colts, along with Hilton. We've truly come across an absolute gem.

    Go Colts

Just imagine UT's passing attack in 2012 if Rogers would have been there.  Patterson, Hunter and Rogers catching balls from Bray.  That would have been quite the offense.
