  1. No, not at 34. I must have misunderstood your post if thats what you meant. I was just saying they should draft one somewhere in the draft, not at 34. And I was not bashing your post, just didn't realize you meant just the 34th pick.

Fair enough. But the headline of the thread is '2nd round - BPA', and people are obviously talking about that pick.

But to stay with the NT conversation, Dontari Poe could slip to the 2nd round. Ourlads.com has him at 43 and Evan Silva at Rotoworld has him out of the 1st round as well. I'm not a big fan of Poe though.

  2. You honestly don't think NT is a need or has no value??? McKinney is the only true NT on the roster. Mookie will get destroyed if he is forced to play the NT. He's not very stout as a 4-3 DT, let alone having to be the sole anchor in a 3-4. I know Grigson mentioned him as a possible NT, but he can't possibly believe himself. We without doubt need a good NT out of this draft. Jean-Baptiste, Fangupo, Kitchen are all possibilities.

So you would take Baptiste, Fangupo, Kitchen at #34?

If so, I'm not replying to any more of your posts, as that is just plain stupid. Know what the pick in question is before you start bashing my post.

(Baptise, Fangupo, Kitchen are not any better than McKinney though)

  3. Someone will fall out of the 1st round. The ones listed in the first post is all 2nd round or later prospects.

Not all prospects, who have been mentioned or rated as 1st round prospects will go in the 1st round.

Here are some who could slip out of the 1st (in no particular order), and could be used:

    WR:

    Rueben Randle

    Stephen Hill

    Kendall Wright

    - Personally I don't think there will be 5 WRs picked in the 1st. Blackmon and Floyd will go at some point. Teams like Browns, Texans, 49ers could all go WR, but will they?

    TE:

    Coby Fleener

    - Will probably go in the bottom of the 1st round. Giants and 49ers are plausible options. But could potentially be available at 34. No other TE is worthy of this pick. I would love Dwayne Allen in the 3rd round though.

    OL:

    Peter Konz

    Kevin Zeitler

    Kelechi Osemele

    Amini Silatolu

    Jonathan Martin

    - Konz is smart, but doesn't play with the mean streak that Zeitler, Osemele and Silatolu does (or can). Konz is a center only in my book, but the Colts don't need that with Satele on board. The others would be solid as well. Jonathan Martin is falling and falling. Zeitler, Osemele, Silatolu looks like solid 10 years starters. Add Cordy Glenn should he somehow slip.

    DE/DT/5 tech DL:

    Devon Still

    Brandon Thompson

    Kendall Reyes

    - Would only want Still of these listed really.

    DE/OLB

    Shea McClellin

    Courtney Upshaw

    Andre Branch

    - Not the biggest need this year. But there is a lot of pass rushers mentioned in the 1st round. Not a Branch fan myself, but McClellin, Upshaw could both fit as BPA picks.

    ILB:

    Dont'a Hightower

    - He won't be there, but should take longer than 30 seconds to get the pick in if he is.

    S:

    Mark Barron

    - Same story as Hightower.

    CB:

    Dre Kirkpatrick

    Janoris Jenkins

    Jayron Hosley

    - Claiborne, Gilmore and probably Dre Kirkpatrick are locks in the 1st. The listed could all be available and would be solid picks based on talent.

Did not include: RB, NT, QB. Not a need or no value.

Some of these guys will drop and be solid picks!

  4. @ 21isSuperman

There's very different reports on Malik Jackson. But there is some who likes him a lot - and I do too. Read from a Vols fan that Jackson was the only bright spot in that defense, and was the sole reason Tennesse had any pass rush. He's very disruptive and gives you full effort on every play.

    @ LJpalmbeacher

Hill went as high as 19 to the Bears.

  5. Just thought I'd share this with you all: Participated in a GM Mock Draft (from 20 March to 14 April) at a Danish (which I am) website, and got the following for the Colts:

    1. round, 1st overall: Andrew Luck, QB - Stanford

    No brainer.

2nd round, 34th overall: Coby Fleener, TE - Stanford

Almost BPA in my estimation. Stephon Gilmore was there, but that was before he took a massive rise in the draft media. I've always had 1st round grade on Gilmore though, and he was my best prospect available, but couldn't ignore the need at TE, Fleeners receiving talent, lack of targets for Luck as well as Fleener og Luck's familiarity.

3rd round, 65th overall: Jamell Fleming, CB - Oklahoma

Fleming is a tremendous talent. Physical, fast, great technician. A good man cover corner, who should fit in well. Colts don't have anybody solid at cornerback except Jerraud Powers, who has struggled to stay healthy.

(Tried to trade down here, but didn't succeed)

    4th round, 99th overall: Malik Jackson, DE/DT - Tennessee

I love this guy, so snatched him here in the 4th. In my eyes, he has good value even though not all the popular ranking sites rates him highly. Jackson might have the best use of hands in the draft, extends his arm well into contact, diagnoses plays (keeps his head up) and has a high effort motor. 4-3 DE who transferred from USC to Tennessee. Played DE his junior year, moved to DT senior year. Has bulked up to 285-290lbs to appeal as a 3 tech DT to 4-3 teams. A tad over 6'4" and has very long arms. Played DT at about 267. No trouble carrying the extra weight on his impressive frame.

For the Colts his versatility is great. Can backup/rotate at 5 tech DE (could develop into one of the leagues better players at this position), play DE in a 4 man front on early/running downs, can move to DT in nickel and pass rush from there.

(Tried to trade down here as well)

5th round, 138th overall: Jarius Wright, WR - Arkansas

WR got emptied out quickly during the 4th round! I was praying for AJ Jenkins at this spot, but he got picked by the Packers with a compensatory pick three picks prior to this pick.

However, I am happy with Wright. Only thing he lacks is size (5'10", 185lbs), but he has terrific speed, reliable hands, is a great route runner who understands and reads defenses. His speed allows him to be a threat on the outside despite his small size. Has Pro Bowl traits in the slot though. Will battle Donnie Avery for playing time.

A selection of WR was down prioritized with the selection of Fleener. Let Wright and Avery compete in 2012. Possible to add better outside receiver in '13.

5th round, compensatory pick, 172nd overall: Jerry Franklin, (I)LB - Arkansas

I'm pretty ecstatic about this pick. I love Franklins ability. He possesses good size at 6'1" 245lbs and good speed. His best asset is his smarts, pursuit and tackling ability though. He almost never get caught in traffic and take great angles.

The Colts doesn't have much at LB after Angerer and Conner, so need meets value. Will backup the two linebackers in the 3-4 system, can play OLB in 4-3, and should be able to play in nickel formations (replacing Conner).

6th round, compensatory pick, 209th overall: Donald Stephenson, OT - Oklahoma

Workout warrior at the combine. Best in all drills except bench press, but showed lower body explosiveness in the broad and vertical jump. Not a mauler by any means though, lacks strength (can be relatively easy improved), more of a finesse blocker. Stands 6'6" 312lbs, played right tackle for the Sooners before moving to left tackle for 2011. Didn't give up a sack (I think!). Not a day one starter, but well worth this pick - and that's an understatement. Could be a solid right tackle for the future.

7th round, 211th overall: Mike Harris, CB - Florida State

You can never have too many good cornerbacks! Harris is a JUCO transfer, playing his junior and senior season at FSU. Broke into the team right away playing the nickel corner position, competing for a starting job. Four interceptions and two forced fumbles as a junior despite not starting any games. Part of a three man rotation at CB his senior year. Had 58 tackles (2nd on team) (43 solo), 9 pass break ups, a sack and one interceptions.

Has tremendous feet, hips and good, but not great speed. Will compete for nickel spot from day one. Could back up at FS. Harris is a great special teamer (particularly as gunner), so he will see the field.

7th round, 227th overall: Joe Looney, OG - Wake Forest

Looney is a great pass protector with tremendous change of direction og feet movement. Lacks lower body strength in the run game and can be pushed back in pass sets, but recovers with technique. A good prospect, and a good supplement to the big run maulers on the Colts OL (Reitz, McGlynn).

7th round, 256th overall: Adrien Robinson, TE - Cincinnati

Mr. Irrelevant. Allright, he's the last pick, but the Colts need to secure the services of a guy with Robinsons psycial abilities. Came to Cincy as a TE, went to WR and then back to TE. He wasn't invited to the NFL scouting combine, but his pro day numbers would have stood out. He's 6'4" 264lbs, 4.51 (only Hanna faster at combine) and 4.58 in the 40 yard dash, 11'3" broad jump (better than any TE at combine), 39.5" vertical (better than any TE at combine), Short shuttle (4.37) and 3-cone (7.11) would have been placed in the middle amongst TEs at combine.

Has very(!) limited production (12 catches, 183 yards, 3 TDs in 2011 - 29 catches, 434 yards, 5 TDs in career) and is raw, but could develop very nicely!

    That's it folks!

I had my eyes on Brandon Washington (OG) in the 4th, but he got picked at #92. Would really have liked to add a quality OG like him. I'm very happy with the players I got though.

    Thoughts on this mock?

  6. Not a big fan of your draft picks. Mine would look like this...

    1st- Andrew Luck

    2nd- Coby Fleener

    3rd- Alameda Ta'amu

    3rd(via trade)- CB/KR Jayron Hosley

    4th- WR Joe Adams

    5th- SS Tavon Wilson

Well, you are basically filling the same needs, mate :) .

But not taking a single offensive lineman? Want Luck turning into David Carr?

I'm not drafting a safety with the FA signing of Haruki Nakamura.

  7. I'm constantly thinking of how the Colts will look moving forward, what moves I think the Colts should/could make... So I put it down in writing...

    OFF SEASON MOCK:

Cuts has already been made. I haven’t got a problem with a single one of them.

    RESIGNINGS:

    OL Mike Pollak

Moves to his natural positon at center with Saturday probably retiring.

    DL Jamaal Anderson

I think he would thrive at 3-4 DE.

    TE Jacob Tamme

With Clark gone, Tamme is the primary receiving TE.

    LB Philip Wheeler

I think Wheeler would be good at 3-4 OLB, and he could play nickel as well.

    QB Dan Orlovsky

Not a starter, but proved to be a capable backup. Will back up Andrew Luck.

    TRADES:

Dwight Freeney is traded to a DE needy team – and there are plenty of them! Bills, Dolphins, Titans, Jaguars, Browns all need 4-3 DE. If 3-4 teams is interested, Jets, Cardinals and Chargers need a pass rusher too. Dwight could probably haul in something like a mid 2nd to 3rd round pick. I’m gonna send him to Buffalo for their 3rd round pick (#10) in this mock.

    FREE AGENCY:

    DL Cory Redding

Knows Pagano, knows Paganos system, tremendous against the run, good inside pass rusher. The Colts need interior defensive linemen.

    OLB Jarret Johnson

Same story as Redding. Johnson isn’t a good pass rusher, but is a beast against the run. Johnson would be solid for a year or two at left OLB with Robert Mathis moving to the right side OLB. Mathis, Hughes, Wheeler and Johnson would be a good rotation at OLB – of course with Mathis as the primary pass rusher in a Terrell Suggs-role.

    S Haruki Nakamua

I know, another Raven. But all these Ravens players just makes too much sense. Colts has gaping holes at most positions, and Nakamura fills the one at SS.

    Dream signing: LB Dan Connor

But I don’t believe it will happen. Would love to pair him with Angerer. Kavell Conner would provide a great rotation. Connor can play nickel too, Conner can’t at the moment.

    DRAFT

    Not including potential compensation picks.

1: Andrew Luck, QB – Stanford

No brainer. New regime, new era, new quarterback. Best player available… in many, many years.

2: Stephon Gilmore, CB – South Carolina

Colts need to improve the secondary and find a CB-partner to Powers. Gilmore is on the rise though, but if he is available here, he would be great pick! He’s good in coverage and sure, hard hitting tackler. I don’t believe DT Fletcher Cox makes it here, otherwise he would be a fantastisk pick too. OG Kevin Zeitler would be solid as well. Coby Fleener is another good option.

3: Nick Toon, WR – Wisconsin

Best receiver at this point and could be a bit of a steal. This draft is very deep at WR, but Toon presents very good value at this pick.

3 (From Bills): Brandon Washington, OG – Miami

(Colts desperately needs help at the interior offensive line. Washington is a great guard prospect, where he excelled before being moved to left tackle.

4: Josh Chapman, DT – Alabama

The nose tackle in the new 3-4 based defense. Chapman is by no means a pass rusher, but eats up blocks and holds his own against double teams. Is a run defender only. I think he could be available at the top of the round.

5: Greg Childs, WR – Arkansas

An injury has set Childs back, but he is definitely worth taking a shot on at this point in the draft)

6: Omar Bolden, CB – Arizona State

An ACL injury in 2011, and that being his second significant knee injury, means Bolden drops a long way. He has potential to so much more, but you can afford to gamble with Bolden and medical concerns here, as his potential makes it a high reward, low risk pick.

7: Lonnie Edwards, OG – Texas Tech

Can’t have enough depth at the line, and the Colts don’t really have any at the moment.

UFA: Griff Whalen, WR – Stanford

He was Stanfords leading receiver and Luck’s favorite target at Stanford. Why not pair them again?

  8. What no love for Big Joe Reitz? Dude came out of nowhere and was a basketball player in college. That means he has yet to hit his ceiling and in my view could potentially be a solid guard for years to come. I have him penciled in as a starter next year. If we can get Grubbs we'd be pretty much set.

I'm with you on this. I have him down for a starting spot next season.

    On changes for run game:

How the heck can you be dissapointed or whatever for no changes?! It's february for crying out loud.

Grubbs is not going to be available.

Luckily, interior OL is deep and with quality in this coming draft.

  9. Colts will need new pieces if a potential 3-4 is going to have any chance to succeed. Red Bryant is a possibilty for the defensive line. As is Cory Redding. Ravens have a number of contract situations to adress, and my guess is that Redding is going to be available (at least for an offer). Redding is fantastic against the run and provides a good pass rush as well (4,5 sacks in 2011), and Pagano has worked with him before.

  10. Hit the nail on the head really.

Luck is the best prospect since Peyton, but still only a 'prospect'. That is important to remember, I think. You can understand all the massive talk and expectations surrounding Luck, as he does everything so unbelievably well, but I've never heard so many great expectations for a college kid before. It's a bit unfair (if you can call it that) for a 22 year old guy who has never played a snap in the NFL. He IS the best prospect in the draft though!

  11. Alabama's nose tackle Josh Chapman just underwent surgery after playing seven games on a torn ACL. :eyebrow:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/headlinin-neither-torn-acl-nor-meniscus-kept-josh-131136647.html

He probably won't be able to work out prior to the NFL Draft, and I can't see any other result from this, than his draft stocking dropping.

Read somewhere that he could even risk starting the 2012 season on the PUP list.

If so, and he falls to the 4th round or beyond, the Colts should definitely draft him with say the 5th round pick.

  12. Take Luck in the 1st and then in the 2nd take Jarius Wright, WR our of Arkansas. His height (5'10) and Weight (188) will be the only thing that keeps him out of the 1st round. Is one of the fastest WRs in the draft, a superb route runner, very good hands and very tough with 44 starts in his time at Arkansas.

I sincerely hope you mean Kendall Wright out of Baylor.

If so, and Reggie Wayne leaves, I wouldn't mind that.
