  1. I'm not trying to take Nelson unless Chubb and Barkley are off the board. And even at that point I'd have him in strict competition with Minkah Fitzpatrick and Tremaine Edmunds.

My best case Nelson scenario would be:

    - Trade back with Jets to 6 (acquire 2 2nds)

    - Trade back with 9ers/Raiders to 10 (acquire a 2nd and a 3rd)

At 10 take Nelson, then draft well with our now 4 2nds and 2 3rds.

    1 Browns - Barkley

    2 Giants - Rosen

    3 Jets - Darnold

    4 Browns - Allen

    5 Broncos - Mayfield

    6 49ers - Fitzpatrick

    7 Bucs - Chubb

    8 Bears - Ridley

    9 Raiders - Edmunds

    10 Colts - Nelson

  2. The theme of this mock is just building the team, we've got some talent, and a lot of money. Might as well try and add as many guys that can give us good minutes. Starting cap projection is: 85 Million.

    Starting with the resigning period:

    Adam Vaniterri K, 1 year 2 Million

Bring back Vinny, easy decision. Still a good kicker.

    - Barkevious Mingo DE 1 year 1.5 Million

Mingo played pretty well with the Colts, he provides good depth.

    - Pierre Desir CB 2 years 3 Million - 1.5/year

Similarly to Mingo, Desir outplayed what many thought of him. He's a good depth piece at the right price.

    - Michael Pearson OL 1 year 1 Million

Again, a plug and play depth signing here.

    Cap after resignings: 79 M

    Free Agency:

    - Andrew Norwell OG, 5 year 58.7 Million - 11.75 annually, 27M guaranteed

Norwell gets a similar contract to his counterpart in Carolina, Trai Turner. Norwell has been one of the best guards in the NFL, being named an all pro this season. Norwell slides right in and drastically changes the o-line.

    - Cameron Fleming OT, 3 year 16.5 Million - 5.5 annually, 7M guaranteed

Fleming played all over the OL in NE. He can come in and play RT for us, last year he played pretty well earning a 77 grade from PFF. Fleming is a huge guy at 6'6 320, he's very powerful blocker. He'd be a huge upgrade over what we've got at RT currently.

    Marquis Lee WR, 3 year 24 M - 6M annually - 12M guaranteed

Lee's a very solid WR who quitely produced a ton in JAX. He put up a 78.7 pff grade, ranking 2nd out of all FA WRs. He put up 56 receptions for 758 yards. He can slide right in and fit with T.Y being our #2.

    Anthony Hitchens ILB, 4 year 25M - 6.5 annually, 12M guaranteed

Hitchens played at a very high level for Dallas playing all 3 LB positions. He's a logical signing due to the connection to Eberflus. Hitchens is a stud and fills a huge need at ILB for the Colts. Hitchens will also help to make the switch much more natural and can slide right in and start at LB.

    Todd Davis ILB/OLB, 2 year 5M - 2.5 annually, 3M guaranteed

A theme of this mock is adding high character, high effort, athletic guys who can play. Davis fits the bill here. Coming from Denver Davis has impressed in his limited snaps at ILB. He's a thumper who plays the run very well. Davis has tons of potential to blossom in a new environment. He's got pro bowl potential. He'll be a nice depth piece but will also compete for a starting spot.

    - Korey Toomer OLB, 2 year 4M - 2 annually

Toomer played rarely for the Chargers. He only played 266 snaps in 2017, but logged 50 tackles and an impressive 80.2 pff grade. Many think with more snaps he could blossom into a high quality starter. Toomer can come into a situation where he gets to compete for snaps and earn a starting position if he plays well enough. He'd be a very good fit in the 43 OLB.

    - EJ Gaines CB, 4 year 38.5 M, 9.6 annually, 19M guaranteed

Gaines is a great scheme fit for the Colts. At 25, Gaines is still very young and is a very talented CB. He was traded from the Rams to the Bills when he broke out due to the new zone scheme he was playing in. PFF gave him a 87.4 overall grade, ranking him 14th of all CBs. Gaines could come in and be our #1 CB in our new 43 Zone scheme.

    Aaron Lynch DE, 1 year 2.2 M

Lynch is extremely talented with tons of potential but a number of character issues, etc. This is a gamble. Lynch could thrive in a 4-3 given his athletics and natural skillset. This would be a good landing spot for him as he is just a depth piece, any issues and ties can be cut. Fully risk/reward.

    - Justin Ellis DT, 2 years 3 M, 1.5 annually

Ellis played well in Oakland, he could come in and provide a good fit as a 43 DT providing nice depth and a wholesome rotation on the DL.

    Dion Lewis 2 years 11 M, 5.5 annually

Lewis can come in and start in a rotation at tailback for the Colts. He's a gifted pass catcher with decent vision. Lewis is a matchup nightmare and can be an above average starting tailback for the Colts for the next 2 seasons.

    Cap: 23M

    Draft:

Colts trade pick 3 to NYJ for 6 and 2 2nds.

1: Bradley Chubb, DE, NC St.

Chubb is a gifted edge rusher with lots of potential. He can be that guy in the 43 system providing constant pressure being a terror off the edge, at 6'4 275 he's very athletic and can win at the point of attack. Chubb will plug right in an be a stud for our new, young, athletic defence. Chubb will be a blue chip player if in the right scheme, he's a true talent.

    2: Isiah Oliver, CB, Colorado

Isiah Oliver is a pre draft process riser. At 6'1 he's good good size and impressive ball skills. He will excel in a zone scheme and has the ability to play both outwide as a boundary CB and as a slot CB. He provides the needed versatility to our young D. He'll slide right in and provide a great young defensive backfield with Wilson, Gaines, Hooker and Gaethers being 21, 25, 21, and 25 respectively.

2: Billy Price, OG, Ohio St.

Price is a tough guy, he's both a nice run and pass blocker. He's a hard worker, he's developed a ton in his years at OSU. He can slide right in and start at RG, rounding out the new OL.

    2: Malik Jefferson, OLB, Texas

Jeffersons an athletic monster. He's 6'4 with good size for a LB, and is very fast. Jefferson had his ups and downs at Texas but has a ton of potential to become a Telvin Smith caliber linebacker. He's a developmental guy but if he's developed properly he's got the potential to be a monster.

    3: Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia

Chubb may fall due to a poor finals performance. Chubbs a physical runner with upside to become a thumping tailback similar to Kareem Hunt. Chubbs got potential to be a starting tailback but needs to work on his explosion and vision.

4: Simmie Cobbs Jr., WR, Indiana

Cobbs is a big bodied WR at 6'4 has the potential to grow into a strong boundary WR. Many think he may fall due to being on the slower side but he's got the potential to be a strong option out wide.

5: Korey Robertson, WR, Southern Mississippi

Back to back WRs for the Colts? Yep. They've already really adressed all their other large needs thus far so this is BPA. The Colts have reportedly shown interest in Robertson. He's a small school kid who broke out this year putting up 76 catches for 1,170 yards. He's got a thick build but has the ability to play both inside and outside.

    6: Eddy Wilson, DT, Purdue

Wilson is a surprising prospect. His stats are disappointing but plays better on tape. He's powerful and quite agile. Despite this, he probably came out of school a year early and has some character/off the field issues. He's got potential but needs to be developed very closely.

    7: Ryan Izzo, TE, FSU

Izzo is a blocking TE who has pretty good hands. He is a solid number 3 TE.

Lineup: Overall, this mock is the Colts bringing in as many guys that can play as possible. The D gets younger and more athletic, the linebacking corpse gets way deeper and more talented and the pass rush is brought to another level. The defensive backfield is young and fits the new scheme. The RB corpse becomes a legit rotation, the OL looks as good as ever and the WR corpses gets more versatile. It all depends on the health of #12.

    Lineup:

    Costonzo - Goode

    Norwell - Vujnovich

    Kelly - Pearson

    Price - Haeg

    Fleming - Clarke

    Luck - Brissett

    Lewis - Chubb - Mack - Michael

    Hilton - Lee - Cobbs - Robertson - Rogers

    Doyle - Swoope - Izzo

    Chubb - Lynch - Hunt

    Hankins - Anderson - Ellis - Woods - Ridgeway

    Sheard - Simon - Basham

    Toomer - Walker - George

    Hitchens - Davis - Morrison

    Jefferson - Mingo

    Gaines - Oliver - Wilson - Desir - White - Hairston

    Hooker - Green

    Gaethers - Farley

The phone calls he'll have to make to the assistants are gonna be really awkward....

Sounds like their gonna go something like this...

"Heyyy so uhhh we didn't really pick you to begin with, and don't really know who your boss is gonna be and if their gonna want you still, but uhhh we're gonna still take you, just cuz I guess."

Idk I just really don't like these headlines about the Colts being good guys keeping the coaches they hired, they got just as *'d over as the coaches did, and its not our job to ensure their still ensured from McDaniels being a jerk.

Gore did the same to Philly, and came to us.

Completely different when it comes to players/coaches.

Gore goes to Phily and then thats all. Bang done. With a HC comes assistants, other coordinators, etc.

Gore leaving Philly set them back maybe 1 or 2 days of free agency, McD set us back a full month, where all of our top targets are gone now. This is not comparable AT ALL.

Possibly.  Eberflus had a lot of hype surrounding him as an up-and-coming defensive coach

Depends on the new HC, it's crucial that there is a fit there. Can't have assistants that don't flow with the HC, and if the Colts force the HC to deal with that then it is bound to fail. I do like Eberflus, but lets say someone like Toub, or whoever doesn't then we can't force him to deal with the whole staff being set.

Just heard this on the radio on WEEI.   Looks like Josh handed in his version of the BB napkin.  I am sorry for you guys, but you got plenty of time to get another coach in line.

Wow, what a circus that last few days.  They stated that the Krafts sweetened the contract with Josh, perhaps Josh may be the next in line for the head coach.

...plenty of time to find a new head coach?!?!?! CUTE.

It's been over a MONTH since the colts fired Pagano, all the top candidate are gone. The other guys the Colts liked (Vrabel, Wilks, etc) are long gone. This is horrible scenario to be in. No way to sweeten this or make it sound better than it is the Colts are f*'d

  7. Literal career suicide for him. He'll be in New England until he is done coaching or fired. Tell me how he can GO THROUGH THE WHOLE PROCESS, the announcement process, etc and then let this go.

He's screwing over a fanbase, organization, all the coordinators, the players and himself.

    Real class act.

  8. Slot:

    1. Jarvis Landry

    2. Paul Richardson

    3. Marquis Lee

    4. Danny Amendola

    5. Albert Wilson

    6. Tayvon Austin

    7. John Brown

I'd be fine with any of these guys, but pretty much after Landry I'd like us to spend a 4/5 on a big bodied outside WR as well.

    Outside:

    1. Allen Robinson

    2. Dez Bryant

    3. Jordan Mathews

    4. Sammy Watkins

Again, after Dez, I really am not very interested. Even Dez would have to be for good value (which he likely won't be). I'd like us to spend a 4/5 on a slot WR no matter who the outside WR is.

    Overall:

    1. Jarvis Landry

    2. Allen Robinson

    3. Paul Richardson

    4. Danny AMendola

    5. Dez Bryant

    6. Jordan Matthews

    7. Albert Wilson

    8. Tavon Austin

    9. John Brown

    10. Sammy Watkins

  9. I love the trade and the second round picks but..

    - I think that may be a tad early for Will Hernandez - early third late second is where i see him going

    - I don't think Tremaine Edmunds will be there past about 15

    - Mike Hughes is a huge stretch in rd. 3 - he's getting a lot of rd. 1 buzz

    - I'd like HItchens and Lewis, but I'd be very unhappy with Zach Fulton. We've got 85+ m in cap and we only look to use about 30-40 here.

Overall, I like the mock. I'd just try and ritz it up a bit more in free agency with a few more guys like Norwell, Gaines, Lawerence, Bradham, etc. And maybe make the picks a tad more realistic. Apart from that I'd be very happy with this.

  10. Ballard and the Colts are on the verge of a special scenario this spring. Depending on how the board falls, the Colts could have massive demand for their 3rd overall selection. The unique thing about this draft is the number and the layout of the QBs. Theres no general consensus, some teams valuing QBX over QBY while others feel the opposite. If the board falls right Ballard could be sitting pretty receiving a great payout to move back a couple spots while still grabbing 'our guy'.

I feel as if the best scenario is for a bidding war to break out between teams looking to jump up for a QB. NYJ/DEN/CLE specifically at 4-6. The Jets intrigue me. Rumours say they really like Allen and Darnold, and their a QB away from being a playoff team. They also have 2 2nds of ammunition. I think a nice, logical move for us would be to trade 3 for 6, 36 and 49.

Now having the extra seconds and 6, the Colts still have a number of options. Lets say the board falls as:

    1 CLE - Barkley

    2 NYG - Rosen

    3 NYJ - Darnold

    4 CLE - Allen

    5 DEN - Mayfield

The Colts have their pick of any non-QB or Barkley player in the whole draft. This is where it comes down to the front office and how much they like certain kids. If the Colts do love Chubb, this would be a great opportunity to nap him at 6. A great move to get your #1 guy and move down and grab some more bodies in another round. But, there still is a lot of talent on the board, Nelson, Chubb, Smith, Fitzpatrick, etc. If Ballard and co. have high grades on all these guys it may be an opportunity to trade down a small amount again, picking up more picks and picking between whose left of the blue chippers.

Some other reports suggest that the Raiders and 9ers both really like Fitzpatrick, they are currently both tied for 9/10 and a coin flip will determine who is where. Lets say that the lower of the 2 feels as if it's a good opportunity to move up - so they offer 10, 41, and 73. Picking up more ammunition. If it is the 9ers who loose the toss and end up picking 10th, they don't have a 2nd due to the Jimmy G trade - so they could offer a future 2nd and a current 3rd.

Lets say the rest of the board falls as

    6 OAK - Fitzpatrick

    7 TB - Chubb

    8 CHI - Jackson

    9 SF - James

Now at 10, you are gifted the choice between Quenton Nelson and Raqoun Smith, two guys who are presumably pretty high on Ballards list. At this point I think you stick to your guns and take your guy. I like Nelson more, so lets say we take him at 10.

Now, you've got 3 extra seconds and a third to play with. This gives you the ability to jump up into the first again if you want, or just haul in a number of new players.

At 35/36 the early seconds I'd look at the top guys who are falling.. Adren Key? Is he available? If so I think you grab him. In terms of some of my favorite second round prospects.

At 35 and I'd look at Isiah Oliver, CB, Colorado he's a guy I really like. He could slide right in and play with Wilson to make a very solid CB tandem for years to come. He's got the size and speed to be a outside corner for years to come.

At 36 I'd look at Rashaan Evans, ILB, Alabama He's probably my favorite second round ILB prospect. Could slide right in and play ILB and provide a nice young start to the ILB core.

At 41 I'd look at Malik Jefferson, OLB, Texas This is my dude. He's a real player drawing some comparisons to Telvin Smith. He plays hard and is a real trooper. One of my favorite propsect and would help build a nice, young LB core with Evans.

At 49 I'd look at Kolton Miller, OT, UCLA - This may be a stretch, but Miller is my favorite 2nd round OT prospect, I'd be fine with us grabbing him at 35, but I'm hoping he'll be here a little later.

In the 3rd I'd look at Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia and Auden Tate, WR, FSU. As they both could be playmakers for our offence.

Given just trading back 2 times in the first while still picking up the talented Quenton Nelson we add Evans, Jefferson, Miller and Tate. It's a great haul.

Overall, Ballards just got a special opportunity to make some great moves this offseason, with draft capital available that this, and over 85 million in free agency to play with this could really be an amazing offseason.
