I would agree with you, if we had a conventional front office. I think the reprieve that they got has them trying to think outside the box.

I'm sure they are thinking outside the box. But the fact of the matter is that Luck had a serious injury to his throwing shoulder a year ago. That same shoulder is still an issue. If I had to guess the situation with his shoulder is a tenuous one and it's probably a deal where they want to see if the issue can be managed without surgery first. That's the typical route when surgery isnt the obvious choice. My opinion is that the with this lingering into this season now, a year later that eventually surgery is going to happen. Hopefully whatever the actual injury is will be something that surgery can fix and he can return from 100%. This is something I learned when my son was dealing with a shoulder injury,1)  the shoulder is a very complicated joint 2) injuries to that joint are not always obvious on MRI 3) Surgery can repair the damage but in a throwing athlete return to compitition at the same level prior to surgery is not always possible but it is relative to the type of injury that is being repaired. So, I don't wanna say that Luck has surgery in his future and his career is in jeopardy just saying that I think it's very probable this is a lingering issue from last year and the fact that they are limiting his throwing is a pretty good sign that this shoulder issue is not going away and will have to be dealt with in another way besides rehab and activity modification.

I haven't seen anyone really talk about the 1st pick much. I'm not much of an offensive line aficionado, so anyone who's better at analyzing them, how has he looked so far? Obviously it's only been two games but he did go up against a pretty stout Detroit D Line and that legendary Denver Defense. Wondering what you guys have thought of his performance thus far.

When you discuss offensive linemen and there isnt much to discuss, that's a good thing. From what I've seen when I pay attention to him during the game he looks like he's doing well. Again, if he were standing out it would likely be because of mistakes and that doesnt appear to be the case.

I don't know why people can't get it, that this is the plan for Luck, his practice participation is probably based off of statistics of the previous game, like pass attempts and QB hits.

Im sure its part of "the plan". The fact that there is a "plan" at all tells me that shoulder is damaged in some way. I'm not trying to stir the pot. Im not saying anything other than I personally feel there is more to the Andrew Luck shoulder story. If there is a need to have him not throw during the week, for any reason then it should be concerning. Because Im quite sure every other starting QB in the league is throwing passes on Wednesday and Thursday. When you start reducing throwing when you are a throwing athlete that is a big indicator something is wrong. I'm not saying its a big thing it could be little and they are just being cautious but something is definitely up and that's just my opinion.

Andrew Luck was held out of yesterday's practice due to 'shoulder soreness', though both he and Chud are adamant he'll be our starter come Sunday.

I thought Luck hurt his shoulder last year in pre-season and he didn't seem right throwing the ball most of last year.  He looked very sharp week 1, but last week there were a few throws that were high or just off target (including the pick 6 by Talib).  He was on the injury report with a shoulder....

Is anyone else concerned about this?

To me, there could be a number of reasons for his high throws -- one being the amount of pressure he faces, he might be throwing high in hopes of avoiding tipped/batted down balls and two being arm fatigue/soreness.

It sounds like he will start, and I hope I'm overreacting, but to me it seemed like he had shoulder issues last year (and to my knowledge, never had any sort of medical procedures done to correct it).  With >1/2 the year off to rest last year, plus a full off-season, I am a bit worried that he is sitting out of practices with shoulder soreness prior to week 3 of his 5th season.  If he were a 12 year vet or if this was week 14, I would be less worried.

*I didn't see any other posts about this, which was surprising, so mods, please merge if a thread already exists on this topic.

Yes, I definitely think there is more than what anyone is saying. Having had a son who was baseball pitcher that suffered a shoulder injury I know how these injuries can be a real difficult thing to manage. The shoulder is the most complicated joint in the body and injuries to that joint are very difficult to manage and difficult for throwers to return from injury. There is no doubt in my mind that Luck has some sort ongoing issue with his shoulder and it is trying to be managed without surgery.

Anyone else wish we ran the hurry up more?

Luck has been consistently good at it (even last year he was still pretty good at it, look at the Panthers game for instance) and its obvious hes in his comfort zone while doing it.

It seems to me that the Broncos game could have been a perfect time to break it out for a series or two earlier in the game, especially since Luck was struggling.

    Thoughts?

Yes, I'm in favor that we hurry up and get one.....

    Castonzo               74.2             Average

    Mewhort                 76.0            Average

No real surprises other than I thought Kelly would be higher, but I still love his play.  He will get better.  Reitz will not.  Good is still a question mark.

I don't know what offensive line has had a good score against Denver's defense. I realize this is a two game score but Denver is dominating everyone on defense. Personally, I think our OL looked solid on Sunday. 5 sacks may indicate otherwise but 2-3 of those sacks were coverage sacks and Luck initially had time to throw the ball. The run blocking was below average again but I think it's improving. Again, it's tough to judge after playing against one of the most dominating defenses in the recent past.

just said Andrew Luck is the most overrated player in the NFL.

He also said injuries are a excuse and it was stupid Reitz had no help with Von Miller.

I find it interesting that Dakich and all the other people criticizing Luck would do so one week after he torched Detroit like he did and this week he plays against arguably the best defense in the NFL the last several years and manages to keep the team in the game for better than 3 quarters and actually beat Denver last year and all of a sudden he's over rated. Im sorry, but Denver nearly killed Cam Newton last week. They nearly Killed him in the SB. They make great QB's look average. That's why they are SB champs.

No, he's just on the original list of 94.  That gets pared down to 25, then eventually (unveiled in January 2017) down to 18, 15 of which are modern era players, Kenny Easley (Senior Finalist), and two Contributors-  Paul Tagliabue and Jerry Jones.  The 48 person committee will meet February 4, 2017 to elect the inductees. While there is no actual set number for any class of newly inducted members, the selection process by-laws provide that between four and eight new members will be selected. I do not expect Bob to even make it to the list of 25, and Edge probably won't make it to the list 18.  But, we will see.

Here's how it will play out from the final list of 18 (once it is decided upon) -

"The Senior Finalist and Contributor Finalists will be voted "yes" or "no" for election at the annual selection meeting and must receive at least 80 percent support from the Committee to be elected. The Modern Era finalists will be trimmed during the meeting from 15 to 10 and then from 10 to 5. The remaining five finalists will be voted on individually, "yes" or "no" and must receive the same 80 percent positive vote as the Senior and Contributors Finalists to earn election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Class of 2017 will be announced during the "NFL Honors" nationally broadcast award show that evening."

That's why I'm being so patient with all this.  It's all shaping up the same way in the same time frame as the last Regime.  We'll get the pass rushers with this next draft along with the developmental guys taking another step. Also even more added youth to the defense. Team will get better and better.

I hope you're right. Polian's draft history with the Colts is similar I have to say now that I think about it. He took Peyton #1. The next year he took EDGE but he made a bit of a flop pick with a MLB from BYU, it was the no brainer, we needed a stuffer in the middle and Rob Morris was the guy. Problem is he never really panned out as a MLB. Not unitl Dungy moved him to SLB the year we won the SB did he really show his true potential and he had a real good year. In his 4th year he selected a WR out of Miami that a lot of people criticized at the time, one Reggie Wayne. So, it is interesting that Grigson's selections in the first round have been similar. The only difference is that Polian's panned out well for the most part and Grigon blew 2 of them big time.

Do you remember the hubbub when we took Freeney the next year? Many people thought it was a reach pick and Freeney was too small to be an effective pass rusher. I still say the guy has the fastest burst off the line of scrimmage I ever saw.

I started watching the Colts around 2001 and I think Tyrone Poole was gone at that point.  Jeff Burris was still here if I remember correctly.

Correct. Poole left in 2001. Polian drafted him when he was at Carolina and brought him in when he came to the Colts. 5-8 190 and lets just say he was no Bob Sanders  Of course we had no pass rush then either. Before Mathis and Freeney came along.

I like that strategy.  Let's pick the best player at every position and blast Grigson for not having a guy like that.

I can't understand why Grigs has not been able to find a RB that gives you AP type production?

Why hasn't he found a TE to give you Gronk type production?

Why has he not found WRs that give you Harrison, Rice and Megatron production?

Why has he not found a center to give you Alex Mack type production?

Why has he not found a guy to give you JJ Watt type production?

This is kind of fun, Anyone else want to join in?

I understand your frustration with the board. I try to evaluate how a GM is doing by comparing position groups with other teams that are playoff contenders. I think we still fall short more often than not with those teams that I think of when I compare.

I also have said a number of times, not lately, but many times last year that any GM who blunders first round picks, especially 2 or 3, is digging his own grave. You cannot fail badly with those picks or the roster will suffer and the digging begins. Unfortunately Grigson has 2 big first round flops on his resume' so he's dug himself a start on his own.

I know what you're saying though, you cant have a superstar at every position.

I don't think it's asking much, for us to wish we has at least one player, capable of bringing a good pass rush.

It's not too much to ask. Oh for the days of Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney in their prime....

  13. Yes! The colts will win a game. Like Joe Namath, I guarantee it. Im not happy with the result from Sunday either but I also know too that the coaching staff is essentially new and that the defense has been devastated by injury. We'll see how I feel in 6 weeks.

  14. I think we have forgotten that Grigson drafted Werner in round 1 and he was a big bust. He tried to address it and failed. Now we have to wait til next year's draft and hope we can find a decent one.

I think we straighten that out too once Henry Anderson and Arthur Jones get back. The Run D.  Ridgeway seems like he's growing too.   Love that one play where he sliced through the middle and hit the RB for a loss in the backfield.  I'm waiting to see if Chuck is going to let Henry play this week.  It's late in the week and Chuck still has not ruled Henry out of the game so I sense something is coming.

Interesting. I would imagine if he did play it would be under a play count.

Had we an average D, Colts would be SB contenders.

Could be. If everyone were  healthy and we had a true pass rusher that could generate 12-15 sacks I think our defense becomes top half.

Another thing to ponder.......What if for some reason Andrew Luck is not our qb this year.

    What would our record be?

    Would we go winless?

Maybe not winless but 3-13 seems likely unless we were somehow able to trade Luck for Aaron Rogers
