I think he's a little overrated as a corner prospect. Doesn't mean I don't like him, I do. But I was hearing about how incredibly athletic he is, people were talking about him like he was a lockdown defender, then I watch him for a couple games and I don't see that. So at first I was pretty down on him. Then I went back and watched him with my expectations much lower, and I see what he has to offer.

He's definitely athletic, but not the standout, premier athlete people were making him out to be at first. Watching his high school basketball videos helped me contextualize his athleticism, there's plenty of burst there. He has some struggles flipping his hips and staying connected late in the down. He's feisty and physical, plays the run with enthusiasm, tackles well, and he has explosiveness. He's better in shorter areas when he doesn't have to try to keep up with a receiver with elite speed. I know he ran 4.43, but it wasn't a pro day, it was a private workout. I discount timed speeds at pro days, and definitely at private workouts. To me, he's closer to 4.5 than 4.4, and that's what I expected when watching him play.

To me, he's a safety/nickel prospect, not a boundary corner. And if he were looked at as a boundary corner, I think his arm length would probably disqualify him for the Colts, at least in the first round. And I think the Colts already view corner as a Day 2 position. He's said all the right things about playing multiple positions. And while I don't know how the new rules will affect kickoffs, I think it makes sense to have good options at returner, so that helps his stock as well. But I think the second round is the right range for him. If we drafted him, I think we still need a boost on the outside.

You were spot on and I was wrong. DeJean slips to the 2nd round. He will be a steal for whoever picks him.

Sorry, Hawk….  You lost me.  I didn’t understand your response to my post.  How are they connected?

I thought you were insinuating that CB is not a fan of late draft picks that our draft could be over early. If that was not what you were implying then my bad. I am the one who should be sorry New Colt!!

I don’t really have a hot take, or a bold take.   But I’ll offer this…..

Ballard won’t use all 7 rounds of the draft.  He’s done that twice before.

2017:  his first year drafting, Ballard was done about 1/3rd of the way into the 5th round.

2019:  Ballard had made enough trades to have 3 picks back to back to back toward the bottom of R6.

So there is precedent.   I think CB taps out after R5 or R6.

    Last years draft:

    1 we drafted 1-AR

    2 we drafted 1-Juju

    3 we drafted1-Downs

4 we drafted 2-Freeland and Adebawore

5 we drafted 4-Rush, Scott, Malory and Hull

    6 we drafted 1-Wagner

7 we drafted 2-Jones and Witt

That was 12 total last year. More than I remembered but knew we drafted at least 1 per round.

The Pats trade back from #3, and JJ McCarthy gets drafted ahead of Drake Maye.

Latu is the third or maybe even the fourth Edge/DE to be drafted.

Nate Wiggins is the second corner drafted.

Cooper DeJean goes in the second round.

Obviously you have not been impressed with DeJean. Kids has been a stud in the B10 as both a DB and return man. Ran a 4.42 at pro day and RAS score is best amount CDs. Know RAS doesn't mean you will be great pro but his body of work has been excellent. Hope you are right and he he goes in the second to our Colts!!

Well it’s expensive to move up into the top five.  He said in his presser moving up for Harrison is a “fantasy “.  I would guess he’s referring to pick 4 or there about.   That’s expensive.  I don’t consider he meant that high when he mentioned striking distance.  For me striking distance starts at pick 9.   Probably costing our 2nd round pick as well.  Let’s face it the only 2nd rd picks where Ballard acquired a great player with were Leonard and Taylor.  Leonard in the 30’s and Taylor pick 41.  We would be giving up 46 with a chance to get elite.  Pick 46 would probably get good not even great if he used it.  I’m hoping he tries for greatness this time and stays or moves up.  Please don’t trade back.  That’s all I ask.

I would beg to differ on CBs success in 2nd rd picks. I would put Pittman and Smith as darn good if not great players and Dayo and Downs with very good potential. I would much prefer we trade back a few spots in the 1st and pick up a second as I believe there is great value in the 2nd round in this draft.

What's fun now before the draft everyone of us has an opinion and at this point no body is wrong. Once the draft is concluded then all the second guessing begins and only one guy is wrong and being criticized and that guy is CB. Should be a fun next few days. Football is back!!

Hmmmm. I really don't think what hexiw saying is dumb. It's a football forum and all aboutcjustvsexpreaaing

I was never good at math but usually, when someone scored less than 50% at a test and/or a task, it meant they failed. The only thing about Ballard is that he is continually given the excuse that his dog ate his homework, so he couldn't study, and therefore, that is the reason why he failed. I'm making a comparison to losing  Luck lol..

Well then as far as a test for "Who has total distain far Chris Ballard?" you ACE the test with a grade of 100%. Congratulations! No failing grade for you!

Not only that rumor has it that the Cards want to trade that pick is why I posted what I posted. We just never take any huge chances. What is Ballard afraid of? He already gets bashed by half the fanbase anyway. AR needs all the help he can get is how I look at things. If AR has a good season, then yes, we could win 11 games with a better playmaker on offense.

Don't think you want to trade your future away until we are certain that AR is the QB we think he is. If CB would trade our 1st round next year and more and AR is not the guy CB will be looking for a job real soon.

  8. All these splash big names players when PM was here where big name because were in the national spotlight because we had one of the best QBs of all time. We had Luck but the last GM ruined him by not surrounding him with a decent OL which some on here discard as important to a team and QBs success.

If AR is the real deal and we get in the national spotlight  again names like Nelson and other OL personnel as well as Buckner and the DL and Pittman and an improved receiver core will be big names. There are probably 25 or so other teams that are trying to improve and make a big splash but without a good QB a team will struggle to make it to the big dance. I like our team and my wife is really into the team so can't wait for the season to start and can't wait to see if AR is the man. Like our GM and and really think he took his time and found the next great coach.

So four times in 8 years.

We've just spent $200m to stay the same. I mean instead re-signing Stewart and extending Franklin sign Arik Armstead and Frankie Luvu than add a safety like Kamren Curl and a CB like Sean Murphy-Bunting. That would've cost us, what, $20m year more? Tell me the defense wouldn't instantly be better...

Absolutely no proof the D would have been better even though you spent 20M more which we currently don't have considering paying the draft choices. I prefer that we signed our own who are very good players and still have some bucks left to sign possible a CB and FS that is still left in FA.

Really surprised you continue to be a Colt fan. Seems the only player you express as liking is AR.

And if he gets it done some will complain about what was given up for him or what his new contract costs.  Some fans wants a team of 53 all pros playing on vet minimum contracts and if that’s not delivered the GM doesn’t know what he’s doing.

And if they do have all 53players on vet minimum and the don't win a SB then they will want the GM fired.

Not a huge PFF fan but they know a heck of alot more than I do about NFL position ranking but judging best at each position is very subjective and I have seen him ranked higher than they have him. Like asking 20 people to rate the top ten best pizza parlor in Indy and you are not going to get everyone rating the same. The thing about Sneed is he is so talented Spagnuolo has him on the outside, in the slot and in  the box depending on the situation.

I think each coach may have different traits they may be looking for in a CB so as I said I think it is very subjective. Bottom line is I would love to see him in a Colt uniform next year and many years to come!!

Adding Sneed would obviously make the the team better,   but he isn't a top 10 corner in the league by anyone's standard.   He isn't the best corner the Chiefs have.   Paying him 23 million isn't going to happen for any team.  Poor Destin got played

Not surprised you are concerned about paying him 23M but I question your statement that he is not a top 10 CB by anyone's standard.  I know I don't count but he is by my standard.😉

I think most colt fans would rather have a great safety or corner then a backup DT.

So the choice is a great safety or corner or a backup DT? I would say 99.9% of Colt fans would want that. Are you saying all things being equal Ballard chose a backup DT over a great safety or corner? He had that choice?

He is a statue but he also is smart and knows how to win. I would trust him to win a couple of games if AR is out. We are getting him for cheap as well and needed a solid backup, Sam wasn't it. A lot of the media had the Browns going to the AFC Title Game before the playoffs started with him in there. I am not sure why anyone would complain about this.Homer Reaction GIF by MOODMAN

2006, you've been around here long enough to know that anything the FO does you should be able by now to know the guys that will disagree. I sure you're not surprised!

It’s the samething every off-season.  People ignore how Ballard does things and expect him to sign all these big name free agents and when it doesn’t happen people get upset.

I am not going to sit here and say Ballard’s approach is perfect but like I said yesterday, good, bad, or indifferent this is who Ballard is.  Fans would be better off if they accepted it.  For the record accepting is not the samething as agreeing with it.  It’s just accepting this is who he is going to be and acknowledging that when you develop expectations for how he will operate.

I hear you 88 but this goes on every off-season during FA, the draft and then all season long. I was thinking that was why they put up the Ballard Grievances Thread but it didn't make a difference. It is what it is.

  16. Just got onto this sight and went to the Colts FA thread and thought I mistakenly got on the Ballard Grievances Thread. Ballard could trade MAC for Mahomes and several on this sight would be critical of that move. Ballard or for that matter I believe no GM would ever be accepted by many on this sight. Very disappointing coming to read about my Colts only to find a bunch of supposedly Colt fan being critical of every move the Colts make.

I believe him being injured was a huge part of it, but I would not doubt at all his wife wanted him to retire as well due to him getting banged up. He had the money to do so and could be a stay-at-home family man with his wife and kids and be 100% healthy. To me that is very believable.

I see nothing wrong with what AL did. He was getting his butt kicked due to the franchise not building a decent OL. Luck is a very intelligent guy with a beautiful and successful wife and a beautiful new baby and was smart enough to know his own body and knew if he kept taking a beating it could effect his brain and cripple his body which would effect his future. He not only had millions to retire on but the brain to earn well in society.

Yes his decision hurt the franchise but we will survive. He made a huge decision to retire. I appreciate his decision as a person who has had a double knee replacement and a couple back surgeries that has affected my quality of live as I didn't know when to back off.

To think this is a precursor to any future Colt QBs that get married and have children is a little silly. Marriage and having children have a tendency with most men to buckle down and work harder at their jobs. I think AR, coming from his background will be one that will work his rear off to assure that his children will have a better life than he did like I and I think most men who were not born with a silver spoon have done. God bless he and his family.
