  1. Peyton also talked or hinted at "NOW". Winning a title. Or trying to. Not in a few years. Not in 3. NOW.

Were the Colts even with Manning going to win a title next year?

Yep. He wanted out. I don't care what anyone says or what he said. I don't blame him either. I have been saying for some time it was the best situation to let him go and for us to move on.

Better hope he can deliver in Denver though. The pressure is ON.

You hit it, right on the noggin, Jules!!!

  2. The Broncos have been my second team for many years now. I loved watching John Elway play there, and I have followed them for years. Of course the Colts have always been first. Anyways, you can imagine how happy I am that if Peyton isn't with the Colts that he's with the Broncos. But there is no doubt in my mind that Peyton's true colors are Blue and White and always will be. He will go into the H.O.F. as a Colt not a Bronco.

If he wins a couple of SB's in Denver, I wouldn't be so sure of that.

  3. I don't get this? The Colts were a horrid franchise back then, not just a team, I mean the franchise, the FO. Elway made a smart move not coming here. He became a legend in Denver and yet people have this blind hate for him. I hate this gang mentality. Not smart.

How would you feel if Peyton had done the same thing to the Colts? Both teams were pathetic. Isn't the idea of drafting #1 supposed to help the downtrodden improve? Was the "Franchise" in great shape prior to Peyton? I'm not so sure the Colts would still be in Indy if Peyton would have pulled an 'Elway'.

  4. I'll bet you have T-Ball trophies adorning your mantle, another celebration of mediocrity and nothing accomplished. Hanging banners of AFC east championships is not proof of anything significant. If an 11 year record of 63-100-1 is pleasing to you, so be it. My point was that after they cleaned house in Baltimore for the 73 season, we were mediocre at best, and the record proves that. It was not until Manning arrived that we won with any consistency. Keep those rose colored glasses though, they look great with bell bottoms!

Congratulations! You've moved from simply placing your foot in your mouth, to placing your foot and it's receptacle deeply into the south end of your alimentary canal.

  5. During then decade after trading Unitas, the Colts went 63-100-1' , won nothing beyond afc east champ, which no one hangs banners for! Your recollection of that time is different than mine

Recollection isn't much different. However, the definition of "insignificant" most certainly is!...By the way, look inside Lucas Oil and I'll bet you'll see many Divisional banners.

  6. But if you recall, after the Colts cleaned house in Baltimore, they were an insignificant middle of the road ball club until the arrival of Mr. Manning. Some times you can throw out the baby with the bath water!

I recall, all right. I recall the Colts going from 2-12 in 1974 to 10-4 and winning the Div. in '75, '76, and '77. Unfortunately, they banged up against the Steelers and Raiders in the playoffs those years. I wouldn't consider those Colts teams, "insignificant."

  7. I beg to differ here subvet. Why do so many people rule out Denver? Who cares if he went there first. That means absolutely nothing. Why do so many people falsely believe he cannot play outdoors? Peyton can win anywhere, anytime, inside or out. Forget Miami. Colorado is a perfect fit with John Elway & Peyton Manning uniting forces.

The thought of Peyton "uniting" with Elway almost makes me vomit. If it happens, I hope Peyton never wins another game!

  8. For me, Peyton being released was much tougher than Unitas being traded. I remember well, wishing Johnny U. would retire. He was a long way down the other side of the hill. Robert Irsay was reamed for making the tough calls re: an aging Colts team even though they were only a couple of years beyond a SB win. That house cleaning resulted in relatively short order, the Bert Jones teams that provided a great deal of excitement for Colts fans.

  9. I'm an old man who has watched a great many changes in my life as a Colts fan. Many of them hurt a great deal....Unitas going to the Chargers, Bert going to the Rams. Yes, even the Colts leaving Baltimore. The only thing that softens the blow is; look at the Horseshoe...and believe that one day the Colts will be back. For all of you people who claim they're no longer Colts fans, I contend that you never were. Please send me all of your Colts gear. I will proudly put it to good use. Peyton was/is imo, the GOAT. I wish him the very best of luck and hope he continues his career in the HOF manner we're accustomed......until he plays the Colts!!! GO COLTS!!!

  10. Unitas in his prime was awesome

This is copy & paste so various type

UNITAS should forever be in that conversation Re the greatest

, He was unique esp for his time & could make every throw imaginable as well as all the film study back then

2 NFL Championships before the superbowl & 1 superbowl,

developed the 2 minute offense in greatest game ever on the fly on last drive

    ---------------------------

    Unitas story,

have this on my computer as been asked before

I wish i had time to tell u all as grew up with him playing and his rookie card was in my 1st pack of football cards bought

he did all the film study as Peyton , did it with Ray berry

    just 1 thing

BEST EXAMPLE THAT COMES TO MIND WAS IN GREATEST GAME EVER PLAYED

as far as his skill set & playing in a era of running the ball in the greatest game ever he put the NFL on the national stage for the ist time with the first ever 2 minute drill to tie the game and going for the TD in OT instead of basically an extra point distance FG

Unitas was one of the smartest players football wise to ever play. Unitas called the offense to and adjusted based on the defense

even when Unitas coaches said above all dont do this he still did what he wanted anyway & usually worked. He would study for hours on end with ray berry and they had the Manning Harrison Communication with a look

'That 58 game champ game on the first ever 2 minute drive to tie , Well in that final tying drive's start there was a defense they never saw before on the playing field designed to take away the sideline throw to berry to the outside & letting him get out of bounds after a catch using 2 defenders & keeping the clock going as Giants Knew with little time a sideline pass would be done

way before this they saw that same defense in film that is after studying tons of film, & not on the Giants but in general and said if we ever see this lets do this

Well they each looked at each other and wondered if the other remembered what they discussed one time in the past

, the play started, and instead of going to the outside Berry cut across the middle of the field where when he turned to look the ball was there right in his hands , Berry in full stride and the same on the nexrt few plays & they marched down the field to tie

Remember for the win he could of called a FG, and called a run & got a TD in first ever OT game , not just OT in championship

    --------------------

In the book Johnny Unitas Americas QB, 2 forwards 1 by teamate Art Donovan & 1 by Peyton

    peyton said

You hear aabout players from other eras, & some wonder if thgey would be as good today. Well let me tell u, there's no wondering about Johnny Unitas. He was a superstar then. He would be a superstar today. The NFL should name an award after him for all that hes meant. He put the NFL on the map.

    --------------------------------

Coaches often said whatever u do dont do this, Unitas would do it anyway based on what he saw and it worked

he was an earlier version of Peyton smarts way ahead of his time

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

there was 1 game he was mauled but legal then, he stood up , blood flowing from his nose & I think was Mackey but not sure who stuffed mud up his nose to slow it but while still bleeding and blood flowing down face he didnt miss a down and led the team downfield to score. So when u were out of a game back then u really were hurt

    -----

Unitas dumped after draft Picked in 9th round, many rounds back then , actualy that was pick # 102 overall in 55 , Steelers evaluated their pick and dumped him, colts picked him up in 56 after he was playing in sandlot games for $ 6 a game, and seen by Colt CM who sent a postcard to invite unitas ti try out , Colt players lauighed when 1st saw skiny kid with a bad right shoulder

Now why did he even get to play

Colts had # 1 draft choice in 55 & picked a QB George Shaw, ( BTW also got ameche in that draft )

Colts likeed Shaw and was building a team with Shaw designed as the leader , but he got hurt, Unitas came in , all were stunned & Shaw never again was the starter, Thats Sandlot Vs # 1 drafdt pick

The skinny kid unitas was picked up just for a backup and nothing expected of him,

    OF NOTE

Unitas 1st pass IT pick 6 , 2nd play fumbled handoff , then all turned around and thuss became the golden arm

Thats all , Have to go

I'm assuming you believe Unitas was the greatest. I mentioned that Bert was my "favorite" all-time Colt. They were both great but I believe they both stand in the second rank behind Peyton.

  11. I saw Unitas after his prime but Bert was incredible! No Offensive line and injuries derailed his career....darn shame as the man was the best QB I ever saw.

I'm a little older than you, cause I remember Unitas in his prime. With that said; Bert Jones is still my favorite Colt of all time! The greatest arm , EVER!!!

  12. I don't want the Colts to win another game. I realize there are no guarantees. Schlicter and to a much lesser degree, George proved that, but here's why we need to draft Andrew Luck. The following is a list of Colts QB's that have started at least 1 game for the Colts in the 16 yrs. between the Bert Jones era and the Peyton Manning era....Mike Pagel, Mark Hermann, Art Schlichter, Matt Kofler, Jack Trudeau, Gary Hogeboom, Blair Kiel, Chris Chandler, Tom Ramsey, Jeff George, Jim Harbaugh, Don Majkowski, Browning Nagel, Craig Erickson, Paul Justin, and Kelly Holcomb....... GO HOUSTON!!!

    Shameless bump.

  13. I am disgusted-it wasn't about winning a few years ago when we could have had a perfect season and now * Caldwell is going to blow the 1st round pick.

I think they already have. I don't look for the Jags to play to play hard, feeling that Luck may keep them >>>ed for another decade. Look for another IR or 2 in Jacksonville. The only good news about this is, Luck will end up in the NFC.

  14. So what if we lose the #1 pick? Why does that matter if we are winning? The off season works out in a way that's best for, or representative of the state of the team. It's nothing: I repeat, NOTHING if we "miss out" on an unproven college player.

Should every team in the league tank when a prospect like Luck, Suh, or Peterson comes along? Why try to win games when you can get a college player?

I didn't say we should tank or do I believe for one minute that we would. I'm saying I hope we lose. You say it's NOTHING to lose the chance at Luck. I say; you must be out of your mind.
