  1. Everytime I see Linkenbach pick up someone who is not blitzing or double team a man Diem has handled fine leaving Clark to pick up a DE, I feel like throwing my remote at the TV.

Can the coaches not see that? Put Diem back at RT and Pollak back at RG, at least they had more continuity and worked together better.

Just wondering, could you please explain your background in experience when it comes to coaching the NFL game? I mean it would help in determining your view.

  2. I think it does, collins doesnt even look like he cares i only saw the guy look at the printout sheet like once and the rest of the time he was just there standing on the sidelines just staring into lah lah land. Collins has no awarness and his release scares me everytime he throws the ball. Id rather see painter out there, this is the same line he played behind in the preseason, same WR's. BUT i do hope that collins steps his game up... if he doesnt in the browns game then he doesnt deserve to be the starter.

Maybe the coaches, offensive line, WR/RB's and others need to step it up. Maybe he had a look of looking out into Lah Lah Land because he had been crushed. He has how many weeks to learn the system? Sorry but putting Painter back there isn't going to change the result. We all need to wake up and face it, the QB is not the reason we got thumped.

  3. If everything goes perfectly for Peyton and he could be back in 3 months, that takes the Colts to the Panthers game following the bye week. IMO if the Colts can get to 4-6 at the bye with Collins, Peyton could come back and win the final 6 games. If healthy this colts team matches up well with all 6 teams on the schedule after the bye week. Keeping my fingers crossed.

there is no chance he is back that soon, and it would be a foolish decision by the franchise to play him at all this season. this is not like a hammie or even a broken bone, this is a career ender if not handled right. Someone with the guts in the Colts franchise need to IR him now and eliminate any chance of him returning this season.

  4. Watching last nights NFL game I began to wonder if one of the biggest Colts weaknessess has been converted to a strength by the league itself? Just think what if the new rule of kicking off from the 35 was in place last year, do we lose the playoff game to NY? I mean with how good of a kick off kicker we have, haven't we seen the days of long run backs on kick offs vs. the Colts a thing of the past? I am wondering how many here think this one thing alone may be the biggest "help" the Colts will have this year?

  5. To me this is a pretty simple thing, we have an NFL football team built around one of the greatest players ever. We are now without him this season, so we go out and do the best we can. NE didn't fall apart when Brady went down, and Pitts didn't fall apart when Ben missed games and the Colts will be okay, yes we may have a down year, but we will be back....

  6. So the run package on D will have no effect in this game?

Our offensive line is a work in progress? I thought there D was one too.

If they blitz that will probably actually help Collins, since all he has to do is key in on the hot receiver and get the ball out quickly.

I know its a message board so you can't hear my voice, but this is my Bob Lamey impersonation: "Touchdown Pierre Garcon".

The texans will key in on Reggie and Dallas. Garcon will be left single covered. Expect him to have a big game.

    {

EDIT: also expect Addai to have a great game too. He always runs well when there is something to prove, and dump offs out of the backfield will help too.

    }

    My prediction:

    Texans: 17

    Colts: 20

Winning it with a late field goal from someone other than #4, and its gonna be long too.

How did we do in Houston last year with nearly a 100% healthy team? You now remove Peyton, insert a even less mobile QB and have key offensive line positions being taken by rookies and or players playing in new positions, add to that a defense that is built to play with a lead, not being behind. People need to wake up and see that we are what we are and that is a team that is not that good.

  7. Colts 24

    Texans 17

yeah, I just went there, teams gonna be ticked

Team can be ticked all it wants, the better talent is on the other side of the field and it's a road game. The offense line is a work in progress with alot of progress to come way down the road, you have now a dumbed down offense scheme to help Collins. You have a D who can't stop the run no matter what and will struggle to stop the pass. We were not going to win this game with a 100% Peyton at QB, now the question isn't will we win, but how big of a loss witll it be.

  8. Houston 34

    Colts 17

this game is going to be ugly. Our offense will struggle to put anything on the board and probably won't see points till the second half. The Texans are going to run all over our D and just eat up clock. The only thing in our favor is out kicking game can keep them from long returns.

  9. :ref: There is zero chance in the Colts getting the number one pick next year even if Peyton never takes a snap, there are other teams worse then a possible Manningless Colts. Second, I am baffled as to why people are shocked by this. As soon as I saw Peyton wasn't able to do anything come Preseason I knew we were in trouble and then for the doctors to shut him down after just a week or so of soft throwing was the Red flag. It's sad we won't be an elite team this year, but I look at the positive side, come Nov and Dec there should be a ton of cheaper tix available on web sites and such and maybe I will finally get to see a live Colts game.

  10. im not sure if this has already been discussed, but i think the present situation with Peyton warrants it at the very least.

Peyton's recovery is still uncertain, and since nerve damage is so uncertain there is speculation that he may never heal. Of course my hope and prayer is that he does recover and is able to return without missing more than one season at most.

However, due to the uncertainty, this thought crossed my mind. Would there ever be a situation in which it would be practical to "throw the season," secure the number 1 pick, and draft Andrew Luck. Im not ready to retire Peyton yet, and I hope he plays for a few more years, but this neck thing could shorten or end his career. But Andrew Luck appears to be the best QB college prospect since Peyton in my opinion, and a big part of me thinks we should try to get the first pick, draft Luck, and let him study under Peyton for a few years.

Only problem with Collins at QB we are a 4-5 or even 6 win team and there is no way Cincy wins that many games and you can bet if they have the number 1 pick they take the Stanford QB and trade the kid they took this past year. The chances of the Colts getting the number 1 pick is slim and slim is leaving.....

  11. I am still amazed how people think this will just be a "couple" of week thing and Peyton will be back. He had the surgery back in May and he STILL isn't able to even practice. I think we need to come to terms that he may be gone all season and at best not back till sometime in November which by that point we will be out of it. Personally, I shut him down for the season, let him get done what needs to get done, get healthy and be ready for the 2012 season, because if not we could be looking at a reoccuring issue over the remaining years he is with us.

  12. So you don't think Collins can pull out 2 or 3 wins in 5 or 6 weeks? How are you so positive that Manning is gonna miss that much time? Its very possible he only misses a week or 2. Wasn't it in 08' that we started out at 3 and 4 and still won the division? Im not overly optimistic about the season if Manning misses a bunch of games, but if he only misses 5 or 6 that you're so positive he will, I still feel like they could make the playoffs. People are once again over rating the Texans and the rest of the division sucks.

Simple, he can't even practice. So if he restarts next week we are looking at 4-5 weeks before Peyton would back up to 100% as we saw back in 2008. I doubt he his back to 100% that soon. No we have a very tough schedule and like it or not winning in with Peyton is tough, going with a QB with only 1.5 weeks of work with this offense and our highly questionable D will be tough. Week 2 we get a big of break with the Browns then get the defending AFC champs in on the following sunday, so easily could be 1-2 after those three weeks. Again this is a serious issue that we need to take time with and not rush Peyton back.

  13. Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh right!! And which team do you routinely root for? It surely isn't the Colts. It amazes me how many nuero surgeons we have on these boards whn a player get hurt and what is the best thing for them to do. Maybe everyone just stays in a Holiday Inn express and it just makes em smarter.

Look at the info, if Peyton has been told by doctors NOT to practice at all this week and that more possible surgery might be needed then it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see we have some major issues here. Given that, even if things go well it's going to be week 5 or 6 before we see Peyton back and even then at what %? So do you really think the team at that point has a legit shot at the superbowl? Not a chance in heck, so, why not let him rest and get back to 100% for next season? Playing him hurt only hurts the team this season and future seasons.

  14. The smart thing would be to shut him down for the season. Right now it's going to be week 5-6 at the earliest that he comes back, we basically would at that point be so far in a hole any shot at the playoffs would be small. I say let him sit this season, get fully back to 100% for next year nad go from there.

  15. At no time should an athlete be the one deciding if he is physcially able to play. This is just bad and something that shows me that Peyton is more concerned with himself over the team in some ways. Right now there is no reason at all Peyton should be starting game 1 vs. Houston. The smart money is to have Collins go in game 1 and 2 and have Peyton ready for the big sunday night home game vs. the Steelers. But no, Peyton will be out there in Houston, we will lose he will struggle. The smart thing is to treat him just like every other player, have him practice and get ready and then bring him in at the right time. It's sad management refuses to stand up to Peyton.

  16. Seriously....all the doom and gloom on here is getting me down.

Am I the only one that thinks the Colts will surprise all the doubters, you know the ones that think "the window is closing"?

First, Manning plays week 1. Collins is insurance, but there's no way 18 isn't stepping on the field in Houston.

Barring another (heaven forbid) rash of injuries like last season...I see great things in store for the Colts.

The additions on defense will pay off big IMO. The D-line is so deep it's scary. Sims along with the fellows at LB will be solid...the secondary does have me worried though. I would like to see some additions there (Hayden back?)just for depth

The offense should be fine, provided Manning can come back and not be TOO rusty. The running game has looked better. Carter is a great get, and I see him getting a lot of touches near the goal line. Collie and Clark being back will be huge, and Tamme got a lot of time last year, further expanding the arsenal Manning has at his disposal.

I think this could be a big year for the Colts. The schedule will be tough, but if we can stay relatively healthy I see 12 wins and a run at the SB...

Anything is possible, but I am leaning more towards 8-8 or 9-7 at best. It will be game 4 or 5 before Manning is back to 100% and due to our schedule we could be like 1-3 or 2-3 at that point. We have huge question marks for our offensive line due to youthfullness and inexperience, we have issues on Defense and extremely tough schedule. Sure 11-5 or even 12-4 is possible, but I think if you look at everything in a clean light you have to be happy with 8-8 or 9-7.

  17. If you didn't catch the Sports Reporters on ESPN today, I think you can watch it on-line.

It was almost comical listening to their Colts demise discussion. We've heard it all before, the window is closed, without Manning we're the worst team in the league, even with Manning we're a bad team, etc.

I tried to listen to them objectively, and if you didn't know the real story, they sounded like they knew what they were talking about. One of the guys actually said he watched the first game and could tell we weren't a good team. The O-Line is horrible, etc.

Apparently they didn't watch the GB game, or it didn't fit into their argument so they ignored it.

It makes me wonder if they research anything they talk about or if they just spew out whatever it's popular to believe.

(Sorry for the long rant, it's not a good way to start a Sunday morning)

I am kinda unclear on how what anything they said wasn't pretty much on target? Play 16 games with Curtis Painter at QB this season and we win maybe 3 and that is being nice. We are getting older in some very key positions and on the flip side are putting our trust in some very raw young guys in key positions, one being protecting our againg QB. Add on to that the fact that said aging QB isn't at 100%, has had zero practice and zero in game action and won't be 100% for a while and not real sure how what they said was that off? I think many here are "hopeing" for 1 last run, right now we need to hope we can have a respectful season and that our new GM can add some more talent next offseason.

  18. Okay, we were 10-6 last year without Collie and Gonzo, as well as Dallas and Joe missing a lot of time. The O-line has improved and the D line is undoubtably better.

You could be right of course, but then why not predict 4-12 by the same token?

Peyton won't be ready, 100% ready till at least maybe Oct, I can see the Colts losing some games during that time. Also I would disagree that the o-line is improved, younger maybe, but still a HUGE issue and not sure how you can think our D line is undoubtably better. At to that age and a very very tough schedule, I think this team is going to struggle and believe 8-8 is where we will finish.
