  1. So I started this topic to talk about next year's draft with people who want to help bring in more talent around Manning. I know I am assuming he will be healthy but for this thread lets give it the benefit of the theoretical doubt. I don't watch college football, so can you guys tell me who to look up that we could realistically get? To help get Manning back to the SB next year! The whole Luck topic has gotten really old for me. People, WE WONT GET THE NUMBER ONE PICK. There are at least 3 other teams worse than us! So can we please talk next year with that in mind? Thanks!

After this weekend the odds of us getting the number 1 pick went up. Depending on what/how Minn handles their QB issue it may come down to us and Miami.

  2. CAR VS CHI - Bears win

BUF VS CIN - Buffalo but it's close, let down after last week

TEN VS CLE - TN in a shocker

    DET VS DAL - Detroit

PIT VS HOU - Houston in an upset

NO VS JAC - NO by 20

MIN VS KC - Minn gets first win but only by a FG

SF VS PHI - SF pulls upset, Philly gans go nutts

WAS VS STL - Redskins are for real

NYG VS ARI - Giants but close due to road trip

ATL VS SEA - Atlanta but close due to road trip

DEN VS GB - GB in a blow out

NE VS OAK - NE only because of loss to Buffalo

MIA VS SD - SD in a blowout

NYJ VS BAL - Balt by 10

IND VS TB - TB by 2 TD's on Monday night

  3. When it comes down to evaluating your teams ability to me it comes down to two key numbers. Points scored and Points allowed. Well after 3 games the Colts have scored 46 points. Only 3 teams have scored fewer points at this point (Jville/KC and St. Louis). Meanwhile the Colts have given up 84 points with only 3 teams giving up more (KC/St.Louis/Saints). These are the numbers that matter, so those out there that feel this team can still finish around .500, really need to relize where this team is and where it is going this year. All other numbers really don't matter if we can't score and can't stop others from scoring.

  4. With the new CBA in place I just don't see teams giving up multiple picks for the number 1 pick. Now I don't think the Colts will have the number 1 pick, I see it going to either KC, Cincy or maybe even Miami or Minn. So of those teams no question KC and Miami would jump all over Luck...so I say our chances of getting him are slim.

  5. If we had the GOAT QB on our team already and only had one SB win to show for it. If our GOAT QB still had 3-6 good years left in him then I definitely would have passed on Manning to stack the rest of the team. As I said, NO other QB in this league can do what Manning does. I don't think Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Rivers, (insert any great QB now) could take this team and make them SB contenders. They could improve us by some wins, maybe get us to the playoffs but not the SB. With that in mind, do I want Luck to lead this team when Manning retires? heck no. He may be elite but that does not mean he can cover up all the weaknesses on this team. There have also been many "elite, can't miss" QBs taken 1 over all in the past that failed. I believe multiple high picks in the draft gives you a better chance to succeed instead of one pick (especially when you have the greatest QB on your team already). Plus, if you draft Luck and he sits for 4 years and his cheaper rookie contract is up he is going to want to be paid on par with other great QBs in the league eventhough he has not proven himself because his next contract will be at year 8 or 9. Then what if he flops as a starter? You have tied up a large amount of money in a position that has failed while not using that pick to garner more talent in areas of need. I like Luck. He may be a special QB but the Colts will not be picking this high again for a long time (we all hope). They have to make this years draft count more than any other and it must improve the overall team. Andrew Luck will not improve this team at all for 3-6 years depending on when Manning decides to retire.

so you are saying that between the time we draft Luck and Luck becomes the everyday QB the overall team can't be improved? Luck won't see the field for atleast 3-4 seasons, that is a number of drafts to rework the team don't you think?

  6. I disagree. Look at Baltimore. They are a great team surrounded by an average QB. I say let's build a great team and still pick up a good QB in the second round. I have enjoyed watching Manning since he was drafted and would never trade the last several years of excellence but Indy has as many SB wins as Baltimore does since Manning has been with us and they have never had even an average QB. You get one chance to add an elite player in each draft and it comes in picks 1-10 roughly. There are usually elite players at a few positions, not just QB. Add the elite talent that will help Manning now and the team in the future. Add a good QB with a ton of potential and teach him what he needs to know over the next 4 years. Build a great team around Manning now and it will be here for the next QB in the future. This team as it is now is only great because of Manning and many agree that no other QB would be able to put this team on his shoulders every year the way Manning does. What are the odds an unproven college kid will be able to do the same? You are taking arguably the Greatest of all time and saying he is replaceble and the team will continue on? I say Manning is the one piece of this team that we will never replace so let's make the team better so the next QB can succeed.

If Luck was just another QB I would agree. Luck isn't, he is well on the level Peyton was when he came out. Are you saying the Colts should have passed on Peyton and traded down back then and built up other positions?

  7. The contract for Luck would be wasted money, he will be on the sideline with a headset and clipboard, plenty of good talent at QB to be drafted later in the second round (Barkley and Jones). Where they would come cheaper, have upside, and could be groomed, the rodgers example is not good he was taken towards the end of the first round! Trade back acquire multiple picks this year and next. DRAFT KALIL first pick, he plays LT move Castonzo to RT and Ijalana to G, this move puts bookends at tackle and sure ups the offensive line. Next two picks (first, second and or two seconds) hopefully if still available take Alameda Ta'Amu DT Washington and one of the remaining WR's, probably FLOYD! This sures up the offensive line for Manning, brings a replacement for Wayne and play maker on the outside, and addresses the glaring need for a run stuffing DT!

We are talking elite vs. good, you don't pass on elite. You have the chance to go from Peyton Manning to Andrew Luck over the next 4-5 years. Again draft choices like that don't come around very often, if the Colts have the number 1 pick and don't take Luck then you can bank on this right here and now that the stadium will have many empty seats in the coming years.

  8. Again..if you have the no. 1 pick you take Luck, end of discussion. this is such a no brainer it's not even funny. You do exactly what GB did, you get your QB, you let him learn under a great QB and in 3-4 years he is your QB. QB's on Luck's level don't come around very often, you don't trade the pick, you take Luck.

  9. I just get the feel that the coaching staff is still coaching as if Peyton was behind center. I see no indication of coaching to the talent you have. The coaches need to understand that the play calling needs to reflect the talent on the field, not the talent you "had" on the field.

  10. It is just not that simple. If Manning gets a clean bill of health and they expect him to finish his contract, trading the # 1 pick to bolster a roster full of holes seems a reasonable choice, especially given that Luck's sole job for 3 years would be to hold a clipboard.

I can see those wanting Luck. It makes sense. But the other option also makes a great deal of sense too.

So what you are saying is that back in the year the Colts drafted Peyton, they should have traded down and added more players over taking Peyton? Beacuse that is what you would be doing by passing on Luck. QB's on that level come out not very often and to pass on him would just be foolish. As we see, a team must have a quality QB to compete.

  11. I'm glad some of you would like to cut the excuses. I really don't care who's under center this week we better win period. The offense needs to get it together. We have veterans on our team that can help Collins while we're playing. We should've won against the Browns last week. I expect a win this sunday against the stealers. We have probowl players on our team on defense, Dwight and Robert better get after Ben. If Raheem Brock could do it, they better do it. We need to attack more on defense, if we need extra pressure put Jerry Hughes in. Have him stand up and rush the passer and aid against the run. I know Jerry is capable of doing that much. So let's cut the excuses and get a win this Sunday. It really doesn't matter who we play I expect us to win every game! Let's go Colts!

If we are within 14-17 points at the end of the game I would be shocked. I see the final score something along the lines of 35-7 or maybe 38-14 at best.

  12. Really so you know something that no one else knows for a fact including the people running the Colts franchise and including Peyton and his own father? Do the odds look good Peyton will be back? No. Is it a fact, no if it was he would be on IR he isn't so clearly there is a chance, no matter how small that he could be back.

So sign a guy who is going to be a month behind the guy that is strugglng partily because he doesn't have enough time in the system is going to fix the problem hunh? Not buying that. Frankly IF we make a QB switch it's going to be to Painter and I only seeing that happening once the Colts are out of the playoff race unless Collins gets hurt. If we are out of the playoff race and Manning isn't healthy there is no reason not to play Painter. Playing the vet makes sense if he can get you to the playoff but odds are Collins is gone at years end so you might as well see what we have in Painter and see if he is a true back up in the NFL or if the Colts need to address it. I think I already know the answer to that but if we are offically out of the playoff why not?

Also Garrad just isn't that good. In case you hadn't noticed it's not like other teams are falling over themselves to sign him. He got beat out for a job by Luke McCown of all people. Just because he was once a starter doesn't mean he would be that great and frankly what he does well is nothing that we would ask a QB to do in our system and they aren't going to change the offense that much for a QB at this point in the season. He would have to learn ours and frankly he's not that great of a fit for it which is probably why we haven't signed him.

Actually reports are a number of teams have contacted him but he has said no to them, he wants to pick where he goes and he can start.

  13. With healthy Peyton 8-8? 9-7?

do you live under a rock?

we have been SB contenders every single year for the last decade. We would have been 10-6 or 12-4 with him this year. Like we are every year.

No chance. We would have lost at Houston with him (like we did last year) we would have other losses from:

    Pitts

    NE

    Baltimore

    Atlanta

    NO

Either Jax or TN at thier place

that is 7 losses right there.

  14. listen peyton wont be back this yr. the year is over cut collins and sign garrad and i see us having a shot

Adding Garrad might add 1 win maybe 2, at this point I sign him as a the starter for next year should Peyton never play again, draft a QB in the draft and let him learn behind Garrad next year.

  15. In your very strange opinion. This is largely the same squad that went to the Super Bowl before being decimated by injuries last year. Actually I like this roster better. I would have expected them to get at least 12 wins this year and make another run at the Championship.

Are you telling me that you don't think they could be 2-0 this year with Peyton?

The Colts had the ball on the Houston 42 on their first drive but came away with nothing thanks to Collins. Collins than handed Houston two TDs with fumbles. At 17-0 early in the second quarter with Collins at QB - the game was over. Not much after that is really relevant. It would have been more like 3-3 at the worst at that point with Peyton under center, and based on all these years of watching this team I would fully expect them to win. The only wild-card is the special teams which keeps putting the Colts in harms way.

The Browns game isn't even a question. The Colts would have been up by a substantial amount at the start of the fourth just by virtue of Peyton excelling in the red zone. The Colts scored on a ridiculous % of their red zone possessions last year despite the injuries. Instead of collapsing in the 4th qtr Peyton would have put them away. I have no doubt in my mind that the game wouldn't have even been close.

With Peyton all we would be talking about now is how we seem to be hitting Pittsburg at a vulnerable time on our way to another dominant season.

With a 100% healthy Peyton I had them at 1-1 at this point, this is just not a very good team. WAY to many issues on teh offensive line and the defense is the same ole. We have an extremely tough schedule. Again if everything went right I only saw us winning 9 games.

  16. Yea I know it, I mean i knew the time after peyton we would not have a winning season for a while. I just like the one record the colts hold(and would hope to continue) and thats being the only team I believe to make the playoffs 9 or 10 consecutive years...I mean that is one heck of a accomplishment and would love to see it keep going, unfortunately it appears it might just end this season!

I look on this season as a positive, I might actually get to see a game live at Lucas. Before tix were either not available or to pricey, not this season.

  17. if you are this worked up about, i hope you were at the game. and if you were at

the game you should be more worried about how we let colt mccoy run aroud like he is steve young

and hit nobody receivers for 8 OUT OF 8 FIRST DOWNS.

Not worried about the team this season, we are looking at 2 maybe 3 wins, it will all be about next season with Peyton back, a much eaiser schedule then the Colts have seen in a long time and one final shot at the SB. So that leaves the stadium, ticket prices and such to talk about this season.
