  1. The Peyton Manning Colts were not a running team. The Curtis Painter Colts should be. That's part of how you set up a young QB to succede. You run the ball and play good defense. I'm not expecting the second part to happen, but I'm holding out hope we can accomplish the first part.

But as to Brown's workload. I agree with you. (I know some of you are shocked right now) He should be getting 20-25 touches. This is his contract year. We need to know what we have and if it's worth keeping. Now is the time to figure that out. It's not like it's going to put a damper on our playoff chances.

You have to be able to run successfully to be a running team. If the Colts line up and try to run at the opponents they will be unsuccessful and be punting every possession after maybe one first down. At best the Colts can be a 50% run/50% pass team. 60% pass is much more likely. If Costanzo and Ijilana develop maybe in 2013 the Colts can be a 55% run team.

  2. A common sugetion I hear with Brown is:

If you take away this game..and that game..and this run and that run..and take away the TD

    Then he's no good.

    I'd have to agree.

The common thing I hear is that he stinks for 15 games, but he had a good game last year against somebody.

    He must be good.

  3. i cant say , it will give us away, but it is good

The Bengals are busy today reading all the posts on this message board so they can setup their gameplan for tomorrow. Are you taking yourself a little too seriously?

  4. Everyone (including people on this forum) loved the Hughes pick at the time. He actually contributed in the last game. He's still got a shot to develop.

Not sure I loved the Hughes pick, but I did like it. I still would like to see him as a blitzing OLB. This season is lost so why not give it a shot. He might develop into a Pat Swilling-type sack artist.

  5. With Joe Addai out this week...Donald Brown (yes, you know him. You love him)

will rush for 100 yards and lead the Colts to victory over Cincinnatti on the road...

Brown, who was unable to play the first two weeks of the season because he was emotionally overcome

with the outpouring of love shown him from Colts fans..

.......will scored two TDs...as the Colts win for the first time this season...

I know of him and he might be a great guy, but I don't love him as a RB. He might get 2 or 3 good runs in a game, but then he will suck for weeks if not months. He should have been cut a long time ago and repaced by the 2nd Team RB from Rhodes College.

  6. You have to ask yourself, what difference would they make to the team THIS year. At this point, we are 0-5 with them playing, which is unfortunate. I like Mathis and Wayne, but there is no guarantee that they will be around next year. you can either take a gamble and hope that they stay with the team next year at a reasonable salary, or you can get something tangible in return. I would like for the front office to find a way to keep both of them, but that may not happen.

You are correct. Since FA came into the NFL, teams must be nimble. Sometimes that means trading or releasing players who have been productive. The dreaded Patties are a case in point.

  7. Wasn't referring to you, nor demonstrating animosity to those who do hate him. Just something to think about.

I listen to NY sports radio even more than Philly, and people hated Coughlin for a long time. He got a lot of leeway after the Super Bowl win, but there are many who still don't like him. Rex Ryan seems comparatively loved. There is something about his personality. Of course there is nothing like a losing streak to change peoples opinions.

You're right about losing causing people to sour on a beloved coach. It will happen with Rex. Maybe it's a Ryan thing. Dad, Buddy was considered a genious with the 86 Bears (of course, that may have been the greatest collection of defensive talent on 1 team ever), and the Philly people loved him when he became their HC. He was outspoken and aggressive in his schemes (like Rex), but the Eagles didn't win and bye bye Buddy.

  8. Why not? Very few if any QB's are NFL ready their first year. So here you have the chance to say..send Luck to "grad" school so to speak and learn under Manning for 2 years, 3 at most and then he steps in and takes over. There is no reason to think this isn't a good idea for the Colts, Luck and even Manning.

How many overall #1 QB picks have sat for more than 1 year and been successful in the NFL. I can't think of any and that is especially true in the Salary Cap era. Ready or not they usually play quickly.Grad School for Luck and a huge contract for Peyton may be more than the Colts can afford.

  9. Problem is your "all time great" isn't great anymore. We need to accept this fact that we have seen the best of Peyton and it's time to begin moving towards the future. This is what I mean by "scared" Joe Colt Fan is scared to accept that it's time to begin the transition between Peyton and his replacement. This transition isn't something that should be done overnight, I would say it is about a 2 maybe 3 year process and if the opportunity is there for the replacement to be Andrew Luck, you have to take it, even if it means Peytons career comes to a end a tad sooner.

You're clearly not understanding that the Colts are not going to keep both PM and Luck for a 2/3 year transition. I, for one, believe that Peyton will be better than Luck over the next 2-4 years and with additional draft picks from trading the overall #1, the Colts are more likely to win championships by sticking with Peyton. You must also believe that Peyton is better than Luck for at least 2 years or you wouldn't be calling for a transition period. You must be "scared" of letting Peyton go. If the Colts get the first pick, it's Peyton or Luck, but not both. I'm not Joe Namath, but I guarantee Peyton and Luck will both not be Colts for more than one season.

  10. If we packaged Wayne and Mathis in a trade to a team in superbowl contention, we could possibly get a 1st and maybe another low round pick in return. They are both set to be free agents at the end of the season, so it could be a wise move... I think Mathis is going to get some seriously high offers from other teams and there's a really good chance we won't be able to match them. With Wayne, there's a very realistic possibility that he'll want significantly more than we are willing to offer. Might as well get something good in return for them while we can, instead of potentially losing them and getting nothing in return...

I agree with you. I feel a healthy Manning is the only indespensable. Other than Peyton, only Freeney and Mathis are worth a high pick. I don't think Reggie and Dallas have much left in the tank. If the Colts want Luck, I think it's either Luck or Peyton. If Luck is drafted by the Colts, PM will go. With his contract and high salary is he legitimate trade bait and which teams would he agree to go to.

  11. Who the heck is scared?

There is a very legitimate argument to be made for trading away the pick in order to build the franchise right now. If Manning gets a clean bill of health and there is a team will to pay the Colts a king's ransom for the rights to draft luck, that is certainly a plan worth looking into.

If Manning's future is cloudy at draft time and they have "earned" the # 1 pick, then by all means take Luck.

I think you are correct. I will go a little further. The use of the word "scared" is nonsense. Moreover, an overall #1 is not going to ride the pines for long. Drafting Luck signals a quick end to the Colts career of Peyton Manning. If Peyton can go, I say accept the "King's ransom for the Luck pick and maybe pick up the missing pieces to more championships while the greatest QB of all-time is still a Colt.

  12. I don't see why either 1 or 2 would be a potential situation. There is no way Manning is faking it or the Colts just want to sit him; there is no way his contract said "you must miss X games", why would they want that? Luck might be the most surefire QB prospect, but that doesn't mean he is the only good one or the only one who will be successful in the NFL

Agree, I like Robert Griffin III as a qb pick who could be mentored by Peyton for a year or two. I don't think an overall #1, like Luck, will ride the bench for more than half a season. Of course, if Painter continues to progress, maybe he will be the QB for the future (I don't really think so).

  13. Defense sucked in the 2nd half, Offense went cold in the 2nd half. Everyone is blaming the defense but the offense should receive just as much blame. Dallas had too many drops and they couldn't move the ball at all. You play for 60 minutes, not 30.

I know it's heresy, but Dallas has always been overated. He's not the strong TE who could outfight a defender for the ball in the endzone and not tall enough to go over a defender. The Colts have needed some big receivers throughout the Peyton-era.

  14. Wouldn't mind seeing him at Center next season.

Saturday has played a bit better the last game or two than usual, but he's old. He more often than not is constantly pushed in to the backfield. Love the guy, but he needs to hang em up after this season imo.

My opinion is this season is lost. If Pollak is believed to be the future at center put him there now and start preparing for 2012.

  15. What in the world happened to this guy?

He was one of my favorite receivers.

    2007: 13 games played

    37 receptions, 576 yds

    3 TDs

    2008: 16 games played

    57 receptions, 664 yds

    4 tds

Those stats may not look like much but they're not bad for a 2nd string WR. His PCL injury has completely derailed his career, now he is invisible and inactive.

Is it time to part ways with the former 1st round pick and draft his replacement?

Here are some draft prospects (I'm sticking to guys who are projected 3rd and later rounds because I don't think The Colts brass will draft a WR in the early rounds)

    Marquis "Amazing" Maze, WR/PR, Alabama

    Height: 5-10. Weight: 182.

    Projected 40 Time: 4.42.

    - Quick, shifty player who is electric in the open field

    - Decent return man too

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjBfKnhq-iE

    Mohamed Sanu*, WR, Rutgers

    Height: 6-2. Weight: 215.

    Projected 40 Time: 4.54.

-Makes ridiculous circus catches and is a play maker

    - Good route runner

    - Is good in the Wildcat offense

    Dwight Jones, WR, North Carolina

    Height: 6-4. Weight: 215.

    Projected 40 Time: 4.55.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yA1G_w2kfj0

    Jermaine Kearse, WR, Washington

    Height: 6-2. Weight: 205.

    Projected 40 Time: 4.50.

Enough with the quick, shifty guys; I would prefer a big, strong guy that can go up high and * the ball as well as outfight smaller dbs for it.

  16. I keep reading replies that say "when Manning returns", but I'm not convinced he will. There is no way he or the organization knew the injury was this bad and I don't think we've heard the whole truth about any of it. I want him back as much as anyone but I've got this gut feeling he may have taken his last snap.

Perhaps we release Caldwell, make Manning the interim coach for the remainder of the season, and if he can't return as quarterback, keep him as head coach. Whatcha' think? ;-)

I like it, but I don't think Peyton is going into coaching when he retires. With his communicative skill and football knowledge, I see him going into TV work and I think he will get a plum assignment. I really don't think Peyton has finished playing, so let's put this on hold for now. I think Peyton and Jim Nantz are friends, maybe the headline CBS crew is Peyton's destiny.
