My offseason hopes

This season we came one step closer to the ultimate goal. There are a number of holes in our team we need to fill. Here are some of my ideas. Let go of Ahmad Bradshaw. He's old, gets injured a lot, is a free agent, and would free up salary space. Pursue Ray Rice. He's a good fit for our team. He's a tough runner and a good receiver. There may be some controversy there, but Indianapolis makes the most sense of teams for him to play for. His old coach (from his Super Bowl win), Chuck Pagano, is the head coach, and has a good relationship with him. He'd be reunited with two of his old teammates from the Super Bowl too, in Arthur Jones and Corey Redding. So he wouldn't not know anyone on his new team, if he signs with us. Trade Trent Richardson. Keep Herron and Nicks. If Corey Redding does retire, pursue Nick Fairley from the Lions to replace him. If Reggie Wayne retires pursue Jeremy Maclin to replace him. Find another safety who has more speed and can cover more of the field better and faster. Justin Houston and Brian Orakpo wouldn't be bad choices to pursue at linebacker either. There are other names that come to mind, but those are the main ones.

I beg colts management PLEASE!!!!!!!!! Go get Peterson pay the Vikings what they want give luck and the guys a chance . With a stud like that then we could dictate to defenses what the game is. Imagine the the dream team Luck, Peterson,Hylton. good luck NFL!!!!!

Peterson would be a killer addition to our team. But his age would be an issue. He would be huge for us for a few years. That's why I'm thinking of getting a guy with experience AND drafting a rookie. Plus having an elite running back would make our defense better too, having to practice for a few hours every day against him/them.

Let Redding retire n bring in Suh if Lions donʻt sign him, we need 2 b more aggressive on Defense n keep Chapman, Hughes n Kerr also let Landry go n keep Adams n Brown cause weʻll have more pressure up front, LBʻs are good now the runnin game n the answer is AP or Beastmode

I agree. Redding is good and still productive and a great leader, but we have only a handful of veterans and just made the conference championship. I don't think we need the leadership of all the veterans now. We're past that point. Suh or Fairley or both along side Jones would be a damn dangerous defensive line! If our defensive line could hold the line better it would make the linebackers jobs easier too (killing two birds with one stone). Landry should go, re-sign Adams and make Brown the starter in place of Landry. I like the idea of Peterson, Lynch, or Rice. But Murray most likely will be available. He's younger than all the other backs mentioned, and has no baggage.

How about if available at 1st pick Gordon of Wisconsin the guy is explosive

Melvin Gordon III is my number one choice of running backs to draft!! And evidently talk about drafting him is circling the colts organization (if he's still available). If we draft him and sign one or two guys who have been around for a few years (as backups) then we should be fine. But yeah, you read my mind with Gordon.

I know it's more exciting to talk about offense, but did anybody notice that when we played teams with good QBs last year we couldn't stop them?  Manning was hurt in playoffs, so you can't count him.  Brady (twice), Rothlesberger, Romo.  All three teams also had superior running games.  We were physically outmatched in those games.  We need upgrades in defensive front 7 in worst way.  Don't think team will spend money on high dollar free agents this year.  I like DTs Knighton from Broncos and/or B.J. Raji from Packers to solidify front.  We then need an athletic thumper at ILB.  We can't win SB with players cut by the Browns.  Sorry, D'quell.

We need influx of talent everywhere.  Here's players I like in the draft and I'm trying to name guys we have a shot at and not pick all first rounders.  We need thumper at ILB and I like Benardrick McKinney and Denzel Perriman in first.  An ongoing problem is our OL.  We can't run effectively or consistently (although we do need more than our customary 8-12 carries per game)  All our OL is on the light side of 320 lbs.  We need a monster or 2 up there who also have some athleticism.  You typically have to draft a little higher then our usual 4th to 7th round to get those type of guys.  I like Laken Tomlinson of Duke at OG and either Donovan Smith (6'5" - 335lbs) of Penn St. or Corey Robinson (6'8" - 344lbs) of South Carolina.  Both played LT in college and would hopefully be good enough in pass protection to play RT in NFL.  Yes, we need a RB in the worst way, but to spend another 1st rounder on a RB after the Richardson fiasco is very risky.  We'd have to be really sure the guy was the real deal.  A 2nd miss there would be catastrophic.  I prefer waiting and taking RBs in like the 3rd and 4th rounds. Draft 2 of them since we can't seem to keep them healthy.

Our offensive line needs to stay healthy, and we need a good runner. Herron is quick and agile on the outside and can catch well, but he's very small and not that explosive. He also can't run up the middle into the secondary (as we've seen), he gets eaten up. A running back is only as good his line (some exceptions). So if we can keep a healthy offensive line and get a good runner, we'll have a damn near complete offense.

DEFENSE. I'm glad they cut Laron Landry. We need a faster more agile safety to take his spot, someone who can cover more of the field faster. I like Sergio Brown. He's young, but has a lot of potential. With the right coaching and direction he could be real good. And agreed, our defensive line is perhaps our biggest concern. Our guys can't put enough pressure on the quarterback (passing game, stopping good qb's like you said), and they can't stop the run (superior running games like you said). Arthur Jones needs to stay healthy, and he's our only elite defensive lineman. Terrance Knighton or BJ Raji in the middle would be good. Or even Suh. Imagine Suh and Jones on either side, with Knighton or Raji in the middle. And there is a good number of linebackers we could sign. And Irsay already gave Grigson the ok to spend the money to get better players.

I don't watch a lot of college football at all haha so I'll take your word for those guys. But we should draft at least one running back, and sign one or two. Herron should stay for certain plays, but some of our other guys need to go. GET RID OF TRENT RICHARDSON!!!!! And Bradshaw is old and gets injured a lot. As far as what you said about getting guys who is the real deal, we should sign Ray Rice. He played for Pagano and with Redding and Jones in Baltimore when they won the Super Bowl, he's familiar with them, and in my opinion is the kind of back we need: physical, familiar with the coaches and players, can catch real well, and if anyone can overlook his baggage it's his old coach (Pagano) and the colts owner (Irsay, who's not perfect either, but don't get me started). We also just signed a lineman from the CFL, Ben Heenan. Hopefully he adds some agression and athleticism to our offensive line. We should draft heavy on offensive linemen and running backs, and sign a few who are young and we know are good and proven (not like Richardson). Melvin Gordon III, Tevin Coleman, and Jay Ajayi should be our targets at running back. Offensive and defensive line as well. Knighton, Raji, Suh, Nick Fairley. Brian Orakpo, Justin Houston at linebacker. Ray Rice as well.

In short, we need:

Bigger more athletic offensive linemen, and for them to stay healthy,

a proven running back (like Ray Rice), and one or two draftees (Melvin Gordon III, Tevin Coleman, or Jay Ajayi),

More aggressive defensive linemen who can put pressure on the quarterback and stuff the run (Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley, Terrance Knighton, or BJ Raji),

Sergio Brown should be given more of a chance and coached up more carefully and directly, and could be our missing link in the secondary,

our linebacker core needs to more aggressive and proactive instead of reactive and waiting for the play to be made (don't react after the runner gets up into the second level or the receiver catches the ball, stuff the holes and swat the balls!),

and for God's sake when Wayne and Mathis retire offer them coaching positions!!!!! As players they've had huge impacts on the younger guys just mentoring them from the side. Imagine if they did that full-time and could put all their thought and energy on it.

D'Quell Jackson was a great pick up. He had more tackles then the entire defense combine..minus Adams.
